While we would never want to accuse anyone of wrapping themselves in religion to justify acts of violence and terror, Hammer Films and Tigon Pictures were not as circumspect as we. However, it does give us the opportunity to see Christopher Lee go full Batman villain in 1966's Rasputin the Mad Monk. After that, Vincent Price actually manages not to go full Batman villain in 1968's Witchfinder General.Email: info@channel-37.comTwitter: @WHXN37

Heidiho, Welt! So geschehen in der Netflix-Erfolgsserie His & Hers.

Cultists, it's the Seventieth anniversary of Don Siegel's Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Something about the low budget B-Movie captured the zeitgeist of the McCarthy era, and it then later became a cult classic after its reassessment by the cinephile crowd. So it seems like a good time to put it on the Exam Table. Please join us for the Dissection. The Freeway Maniac (1989)Directed by: Paul WintersStarring: Kathryn Hauber, George Nicholas, Kevyn Shihadeh, A guy who ended up being Michael MyersContinuing our streak of talking about movies that no one has ever heard of, today we're talking about The Freeway Maniac, where little Arthur, traumatized by witnessing his mother and some random trucker rubbing their hands on each other's backs, kills them both in a fit of... apathy? Now, Arthur's all grown up in the mental institution and confuses Linda with his mother. He'll stop at nothing to make sure that Mothe... errr... Linda pays for letting that truck driver rub his hands on her back - and he'll stop at nothing to infiltrate the shitty sci-fi b-movie production that she's involved in and kill everyone in between he and Linda. IMDB.com had this to say about the gem, The Freeway Maniac: "A crazed killer sneaks onto the set of a sci-fi film and begins murdering the cast and crew."We Also Talked About:I'm Chevy Chase, and You're Not (CNN)Bathtubs over Broadway (OK.RU)VCR Party Live with Steve Young (YouTube)Day of the Warrior (Tubi)It's in the Game: Madden NFL (Amazon Prime)Like what you hear here? Ben and Rob sink their teeth into the endlessly debated phenomenon of Twilight (2008), the moody supernatural romance that launched a franchise, a thousand memes, and an entire generation of Team Edward vs. Team Jacob discourse. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, Twilight follows an awkward new girl who moves to a rainy town, falls for a mysterious classmate, and quickly discovers that eternal love comes with fangs, glitter, and some deeply questionable life choices. What is Twilight, really? A tragic romance, a paranormal soap opera, or an accidentally hilarious teen melodrama; how does the film's Mormon subtext shape its ideas about love, abstinence and destiny; and what went wrong (and occasionally right) behind the scenes during its famously scrappy production? How do the movie's stiff line readings, bizarre tonal shifts and earnest sincerity combine into something strangely compelling; what parts of the plot are genuinely effective, which are baffling, and which are completely unhinged; and how did this odd little adaptation become one of the biggest pop-culture juggernauts of the 21st century? And finally, what does Twilight actually mean about romance, identity, fantasy, and the stories we tell teenagers about what love is supposed to look like?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much, much more!PLUS! After some downtime Stewart, Rastislav and Ken make their return for Off The Record number 6 of 2025. Kens feature pick is Rampage from 1987 Directed by William Friedkin and starring Michael Biehn. A mostly sombre film about the vampire killer Richard Chase and what the experience was like in the courtroom for the jurors. Even though this was a serious film, Ken recounts a few memorable and funny moments and is on his recommended list.Stewart's greater pick Friendship from 2024 is a story about two neighbours who become great friends, but through the struggles of everyday life have a falling out because the main character is a bit of a born loser. Andrew DeYoung take this classic tale and puts a modern twist on it. The main character played by Tim Robinson is very good in his role. Rasto decides to go the documentary route this time with his 2022 pick called Louis Armstrong's Black & Blues, which explores the life and times of this pioneer of jazz. Directed by Sacha Jenkens using actual footage of Louis Armstrong. Rasto was very pleased with this film and the controversy surrounding Louis Armstrong at the time.We slide back to Ken for another semi-court room drama called Juror No. 2 directed by Clint Eastwood in 2024. Ken was somewhat impressed but also let down at a key moment in the film. Nicholas Hoult stars in the film, And Ken decides this film is worth a better score than our recent review of Cry Macho. After all these serious picks, Stewart from out in left field brings us his tale of the Toxic Avenger from 1984, which in all manor of speaking is a B Movie done so wrong, that it turns out alright! Tons of gore, red ketchup and brutal scenes, not for the faint of heart. Directed by Michael Herz starring Mitch Cohen. This bad boy falls under the classic Troma over the top film. As the name says a nerdy janitor turns into a toxic vigilante after falling into some toxic waste. You can watch the kill count on Youtube if you are brave enough.Rasto brings us back to reality with Three Pines from 2022 which he still gave a half descent score. Created by Emilia di Girolamo and starring Alfred Molina. This is a Canadian Film, from Montreal that explores the life of a small towns sins and how the residents navigate each others crimes while still trying to remain neighbours. There is one other ‘Meh' film that Rasto brought to our attention and that is sleeping Dogs starring Russell Crowe from 2024 which was in his opinion just meh.... This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit unsungcinematics.substack.com

They speak about the new trailers for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 - Lost in New Jersey, Mercy, and Send Help. They also talk about the news of Laurence Fishburne wanting to play an X-Men, the state of a KPop Demon Hunter film, and a Jetsons movie. Movies reviewed are the A-listed Jared Leto's Tron: Ares (2025) and a movie with a doll that looks kind of of like Jared Leto Megan 2.0 (2025). Enjoy!
