Debut Florida Author Brings the Magic City to Jacksonville "I am, first and foremost, a Miamian. No physical location has done more to shape my personal and artistic sensibilities than the Magic City," Alejandro Nodarse said in a recent interview. "Miami is, unquestionably, very different from its neighboring Floridan cities, and I am a product of that high energy, heavy neon, fiercely multicultural coastal city." Critics seem to agree... This deeply personal vision of the streets and swamps of Miami is getting some attention, with Publisher's Weekly saying, "Heat practically radiates off the page." Nodarse went on to say, "The creative impulses that fueled the novel were heavily inspired by texts that, in their own right, are some of the best examples of how Florida has defined itself in the national consciousness." Alejandro Nodarse holds an MFA from the University of Miami and is an alum of Las Dos Brujas Writers Conference and a former staff member of the VONA Writers Conference. Blood in the Cut is his debut novel. Interviewer Michael Wiley is the Shamus Award-winning author of twelve novels in four series. The most recent series features Franky Dast, an exonerated convict who investigates crimes involving the unjustly accused. Michael's short stories appear often in magazines and anthologies, including Best Mystery Stories of the Year 2022. A former board member of the Mystery Writers of America, he teaches creative writing and literature at the University of North Florida. His new novel, Find Your Own Way Home, will release this summer at the end of July. READ Check out Blood in the Cut from the Library! -- https://jkpl.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/results?qu=AUTHOR%3D%22alejandro+nodarse%22&te=  ALEJANDRO RECOMMENDS Here are the top Florida-themed works of art that helped hone Blood in the Cut: Moonlight directed by Barry Jenkins "Few films are so Miami-as-it-is and Miami-as-it-should-be as Moonlight. In early drafts of Blood in the Cut, Chiron served as a model for Carlos, my protagonist Iggy's brother, and while Carlos's character arc fell to the background, Chiron, Jenkins's Miami, and the rugged determination of the characters to find their lanes in life held steady as I wrote." The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean "This book is everything I love rolled into one: Mystery, adventure, botany, orchids, the Everglades—what more could you want!? Orlean weaves a tale for readers that examines the lengths that some will go to feed their passions and find rare orchids. It's this combination of beautiful, deep descriptions, unbreakable determination, love of the Everglades, and eye for detail that I hoped to capture in Blood in the Cut." The Florida Project directed by Sean Baker "Throughout the film, Moonee is far wiser than any six-year-old should be, but because of it, she takes everything in stride. I wanted my protagonist, Iggy, to embody that same sort of steely determination as his situation deteriorated. Like any Floridians worthy of the name, both Moonee and Iggy are adept at “resolviendo”, a Spanish word that loosely translates to “making things happen”, and this is what allows us to hope against all hope when things are darkest for them both. " Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston "The tumultuous external landscape that Janie must navigate throughout the novel mirrors her internal turbulence, and that sort of well-rendered, thoughtful characterization is a literary feat I desperately hoped to accomplish as I crafted my characters, especially Iggy." Cocaine Cowboys directed by Billy Corben "Corben's skill at recreating a bygone era and fully immersing audiences is something I've always marveled at and wanted to achieve in Blood in the Cut, which is set in Miami in 2016, just as the presidential elections are taking shape." Gator Country by Rebecca Renner "I think of this book as Blood in the Cut's nonfiction aspirational counterpart because of how beautifully Renner renders the Everglades and the worlds it contains within. One goal I set for myself as I was writing my novel was to treat the Everglades as a character by rendering it as elegantly, vividly, and faithfully in terms of scope, beauty, danger, and primordial, elemental mood. Gator Country forced me to step my game up as I rendered the Everglades in my work." Ace Ventura: Pet Detective directed by Tom Shadyac "I'd like to go on the record and state that the protagonist of this eponymous, comedic whodunit, Ace Ventura, is the original Florida Man. This film is part mystery, part comedy, part love letter to Miami: a tryptic of accomplishments that inspired some key elements of Blood in the Cut." Swamplandia! By Karen Russell "This book. All of it. The way that Russell lures readers into the Everglades and into the lives of the Big Tree family is the magic I pray for every time I crack open a book. This coming-of-age mediation on love, loss, and “resolviendo” is one of the reasons Blood in the Cut exists." --- Never miss an event! This week Hayden and Brendan review all the commons and rares for the upcoming limited set Part the Mistviel; Each card gets a rating from A to D. A is the best of the best, these cards are ones that will be the focal point of your deck in limited and have an impact more so then any other card in a game. You might think of these as “bombs” in FAB context these are auto includes, things that make you want to actively pursue the class if they are class specific - Think Refraction Bolters, Enlightened Strike, Crippling Crush, Heartened Cross strap, Drone of Brutality, Soul Reaping, V of the Vanguard, Awakening. These cards won't necessarily stand alone and win you the game, but could swing a turn, gain massive advantage, help initiate a massive pivot turn, create huge setup situations and/or allow other cards to shine because of them. UPR would be Fyendals fighting spirit, Sash of Sandikai, Red Brothers. OUTSIDERS - Death Touch Red, Infectious Host Red, Lace with Bloodrot, Shake Down, Mechanical Strength, Hydraulic Press, Torque Tuned, Bare Fangs Red, Good Time Chapeau, Prized Galea With the right combination of attack reactions and attack actions Refraction Bolters can be pivotal in a huge double weapon attack turn to push damage and get a dawnblade counter, or even kill the opponent. Without it you need another card to get that go again effect. Soul reaping can for example paired with strong blood debt cards and perhaps a 2nd go again source deliver a massive pivot turn. B's are above average role players, and cards important to an overall strategy for any given hero, or in the form of a generic. These cards could also be super efficient, above rate cards or even cards that can support maximising your A's - examples would be Take Flight red, Warmongers Recital, Gallantry Gold, Sink Below red, Snatch, Scar for a Scar, Goliath Gauntlets, Disable Blue, Salvage Shot Red, Plunder Run red, Turn Timber, Bramble Spark and Ball Lightning Embermaw Cenapai red, Mounting Anger Red, Aether hail blue and red. OUTSIDERS: Red Twin Twisters, Infecting Shot Red, Infect Red, Junkyard Dog, Out Pace, Evo Charging Rods, Wild Ride red and yellow, raw meat, stonewall impasse, concuss red C's are your true role players, they will make up most of your deck and support your overall plan, provide good resources, help defensively or be an OK attack, or support action. These are cards like Ghostly Visit, Smash with Big Tree, Cross the Line, Brandish red, Come to Fight red and blue, Cadaverous Contraband, Sink Below yellow, Throttle red, Scalding Rain red and blue, Smash Instinct Yellow, Debilitate blue, Surging Strike red, Shock Striker,Frost Fang, Earthlore Surge, Brain Freeze Blue, Dust Runner outlaw, Miragi. OUTSIDERS: Sedate Red, Surging Strike Red, Skybound Shot red, or spire sniping blue, Dumpster Dive, hadron collider, Test of Strength, Agile Engagment, Wage Vigor yellow D's are the cards you want to play as little of as possible, pure filler with no real upside, these cards don't do much and are often only in the deck to make up numbers as resources or a card to defend with. Examples are Seek Horizon Yellow, Frontline scout, Memorial Ground, Outmuscle Yellow, Nimble strike blue, Wounded Blow yellow, Sharpen Steel blue, Head Jab yellow, Emerging Power yellow, Bloodspill Invocation blue, Rejuvenate Blue, Chill to the Bone Yellow Yellow brain freeze, yellow sand cover, rebellious rush, liquefy at the minus end OUTSIDERS: Bleed out yellow, Blue brush off, Spinning wheel kick blue, Cognition field yellow, Zero to Fiffty, Evo Buzz Hive, Adrenaline rush, bare fangs blue, yellow performance bonus Set up grade - we will also give some cards set up grades, so a grade but contingent only on getting the right supporting build to see this card realise its full potential in a limited deck. Examples would be Overload red, Rise above, Glisten to an extent, Tear Limb from Limb, Moon Wish & Sun Kiss in Limited Kano, Maximum Velocity, Hurricane Technique, Tome of Fyendal, Channel Thundersteppe, Embolden Sigil permafrost, Phoenix Form, OUTSIDERS: Bonds of Ancestry, Amplifying Arrow, Toxicity (to an extent), Smash and Grab, Overload Script, Rising speed, trade in red Sideboard Grade - Pure SB card with a grade, Blinding Beam, Eclipse Existence, Ray of Hope, Talisman of Dousing, Cold Wave Blue, Sow Tomorrow Red and Rites of Replenishment, Sigil of Protection, Singe OUTSIDERS: yellow infectious host, yellow peace of mind, Autosave Script, bad NAA maybe from HVY   Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/ArsenalPass Review Us: https://ratethispodcast.com/arsenalpass Email: arsenalpassfab@gmail.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClhUUppHaVDBUOJHXL-a0EQ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6H2Y8uTHZaVgxpjhnTBn6n?si=R6Uya7paT_e2HOr4n2KC-w Twitter: @BrendanAPG (Brendan) & @Fyen_Dale (Hayden) Hosts: Brendan Patrick and Hayden Dale

On January 6, 2021 Del Bigtree took the stage at the MAGA Health Freedom Rally a few blocks away from where Donald Trump had just instigated a riot. He joked about how the former president was a hard act to follow.  But he dug deep and persevered by stringing together key dog whistles of Trumpian disinformation and resentment: public health officials are corrupt, COVID is a scam, and the election was probably stolen. Such performances have gotten Bigtree's Highwire show nuked by YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. But they've also made him wealthy, and with his new appointment as RFK Jr's new Director of Communications, his political star is now rising. "As the frost settles on our final harvest, we gather 'round the mic to share the warm tales and frosty fails of our December days. From the heartwarming arrival of Ethel, the newest four-legged love in our lives, to the half-illuminated Christmas tree that sparked a fiery new tradition, we wrap up the year with laughter and the scent of pine lingering in the air. There's a race to tell, too—the Rudolph Run—where our family's competitive spirit blazes even brighter than our oddly decorated tree. And nestled in this month's memories is an engaging conversation with Terry, whose insights on the bucolic bliss of tending a milk cow have churned up our enthusiasm for the creamy possibilities ahead.Yet, life on the farm isn't all fresh milk and frolics; it's also about learning from the thorny side of things. Reflecting on the digital downfalls that have kept our virtual fields from flourishing, we're determined to plant the seeds of a brighter social media future. We share the mishaps that had us in stitches, like the great milkshake disaster and our unique twist on the tooth fairy legend, all while embracing the charming chaos of holiday traditions. And as we tend to our garden of wisdom, we discuss the importance of proper grafting—thanks to a mulberry mix-up—and the resilience of herbs against winter's chill, proving there's always a fresh sprig of knowledge to spice up your life and your plate."Another doozy description by AI. “We have all of these lawsuits where we've made the NIH, the CDC, FDA, Health and Human Services, admit that they haven't done any of the safety studies and trials that we're told by experts have been robustly done … We have the evidence of it because we won it in court,” says Del Bigtree. He's the founder of the Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) and host of The Highwire.Beyond the COVID-19 vaccines, other vaccines on the childhood immunization schedule are also not held to the same safety standards as other drugs, and are not tested against true saline placebos, Mr. Bigtree says. How is this possible? And why are people who suffered adverse reactions post-vaccination not being acknowledged and studied so the causes can be identified?“All that I want to do, or that Robert Kennedy wants to do, is make sure that our vaccines are going through the exact same saline placebo safety trials that most every other drug we take are,” Mr. Bigtree says.
