This week in the first installment of our interview, Gary DeHart remembers getting his start in drag racing and his entrance into NASCAR with team owner Billy Hagan and driver Terry Labonte.   The team's money issues forced Gary to work two jobs in order for him to be able to pay the bills. He eventually left the team when a request for a raise was turned down, but not before winning the 1984 Winston Cup championship.   We then dig into the November 29, 1984 issue of Grand National Scene.   Geoff Bodine takes advantage of Bobby Allison's late-race flat tire to win the rain-soaked season finale at Riverside, while Terry Labonte overcomes Harry Gant in the battle for the 1984 Winston Cup championship.   Rusty Wallace wins freshman honors, despite enduring a difficult season with team owner Cliff Stewart. Bobby Rahal makes his one and only Winston Cup start for the Wood Brothers. Darrell Waltrip talks about safety in the wake of a fatal accident the week before at Atlanta, and also discusses rumors that he might buy into Junior Johnson & Associates.   And Steve Waid has a column for the ages.   IMPORTANT NOTE: We're not going to be asking for any support this week for the podcast or YouTube channel. t would be FAR more appropriate to recommend that you make whatever donations you can to your charity of choice to help out in and around western North Carolina. Jack Harvey has won nearly a dozen championships in his career including the prestigious British F3 championship in 2012. He finished runner-up in the Indy Lights championship in both 2014 and 2015. He's one of only six drivers to have won on both the Indianapolis road course and the oval where he took those wins in Indy Lights. Moving from the Meyer Shank NTT IndyCar Series team to Rahal Letterman Lanigan has proven to be quite challenging for both him and the team. We caught up with Harvey as he was taking some photos of his girlfriend Gracie Norton just off of the red carpet at the 100 Days To Indy Premiere just prior to the 2023 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. He talks about the mental aspect of staying positive and how he wants to continue to motivate the team, work hard, and be competitive for the rest of the season. Candid and stoic, you can tell that Harvey is extremely motivated to return to qualifying well and finishing on the podium. Enjoy! NOTE: At Indianapolis, major drama unfolded as he bumped his teammate Graham Rahal out of the race with time expiring on the clock to qualify 33rd. After the August 12, 2023 road course race at Indy, Harvey was released from RLL with three races left to run in the season. Part of the team statement from Bobby Rahal reads: “First, I would like to thank Jack Harvey for all of his efforts on behalf of RLL for the last year and a half. He committed fully to the team, but for whatever reason, we weren't able to achieve the results that he or the team deserves, and we wish him well in the future.” Where will he end up? Only time will tell. We wish him the best. By Larry Mason Copyright © 2023 Larry Mason

4. Y Jaguar no rugió. 5. Copersucar, no tan dulce.

As a young racer growing up in America in the 60s, Bobby Rahal idolised people like Phil Hill, Dan Gurney and Mario Andretti - drivers who had made it across the Atlantic to drive in Formula 1. He dreamt of doing the same; of travelling to Europe to race at the circuits he'd read about in magazines and going wheel to wheel with his racing heroes. After making a name for himself on US road circuits and putting in some stand-out performances in Formula 3, that F1 opportunity came in 1978 when Walter Wolf offered Bobby a seat alongside Jody Scheckter at the US and Canadian Grand Prix. They were the last two races of the season and, sadly, they would be the first and last races that Bobby would contest in Formula 1. Although his time at the top was brief, Bobby's legacy lives on as one of a handful of American drivers to have made it to F1. In this episode, Bobby addresses the need for more US drivers on the grid and he winds back the decades to reveal the passions that fuelled his love of European motorsport, his journey to F1 and what really happened at those two races back in 1978.  This episode is sponsored by:  Harry's: Head to harrys.com/grid to have your free Trial set delivered and start a Shave Plan. All of the era's biggest stars were there with reigning champion Emerson Fittipaldi, Detroit polesitter and race winner Michael Andretti, his father Mario Andretti, Al Unser Jr, Bobby Rahal, Danny Sullivan, and more on the entry list. And the best part from an audio standpoint was the variety to be heard from the 2.65-liter single-turbo V8 engines from Chevrolet, Cosworth, Judd, Alfa Romeo, and Porsche. There's also the distinct grunt and wail from the 3.4-liter single-turbo Buicks in action around the tight 2.5-mile street layout. Today's inaugural episode features our host, Bruce Martin, interviewing Takuma Sato, Bobby Rahal, Michael Lanigan, Michelle Collins, and Doug Boles. Bruce was able to conduct these interviews on February 19th, 2021 at the Borg-Warner Trophy Unveiling. Forty-four-year-old Takuma Sato is one of the most exciting drivers in IndyCar. His motto is "No attack, no chance." After seven seasons in Formula One, Sato joined IndyCar in 2010. On August 23rd of last year, Sato, this time under the ownership of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, claimed his second Indy 500 victory. In the interview on today's episode, he shares what it feels like to see his face on the Borg-Warner Trophy for a second time. Bruce also shares his interview with Sato's team owner, Bobby Rahal, who was also a true driving legend of IndyCar racing. Rahal is a three-time cart series champion. He won 24 races in his driving career, most notably the 1986 Indianapolis 500. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is also co-owned by former TV talk show host David Letterman and south side Chicago industrialist Michael Lanigan, a very interesting man in himself. Lanigan owns the Panama Canal Railroad outright. Enjoy our interview with him, also from February 19th, as he discusses his first Indianapolis 500 as a team owner. The Borg-Warner Trophy is one of the most iconic and famous trophies in all of the world. It's right up there with the Stanley Cup in terms of recognition. When people see that trophy, they instantly know that it's for the Indy 500. It's been awarded since the mid-1930s and the next guest is Michelle Collins, the Global Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Borg-Warner. She shares a little bit about the trophy and what it means to her company to have such a longstanding relationship with one of the greatest sporting events in the world. The final interview on today's show is with Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles, who talks about how challenging 2020 was, trying to operate the facility during the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant that last year's Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 NASCAR Weekend was held without spectators. Boles also talked about his hopes for the 2021 Indy 500, which will hopefully have spectators if the Indiana and Marion County officials allow it. Thank you for joining us today. The son of former three-time CART champion and 1986 Indianapolis 500 winning driver Bobby Rahal has had a solid top-10 season in the NTT IndyCar Series, but has not been able to drive to victory lane. His best finish so far in 2019 is a third-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in June. RACEDAY's Bruce Martin caught up with Rahal to talk about that and other topics on today's Honda IndyCar Report.

It's the first new episode of Marshall Pruett's The Week In IndyCar podcast for 2019, and we have plenty of insights and humor on offer from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver Graham Rahal. What's the one big area of improvement he's identified for the upcoming season? What's the best prank he's played on his father, 1986 Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal? Why is he no longer a part of the Acura Team Penske IMSA program? And how can younger drivers learn from his off-track business development endeavors? These questions and more, sent in by listeners via Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter, make for a fun open to a new season. James Hinchcliffe's failure to qualify for the 2018 Indy 500 has been the biggest story to come from the month of May, but he isn't the first high-profile driver to miss the show. Three-time CART IndyCar Series title winner Bobby Rahal, who entered the 1993 Indy 500 as the defending series champion, saw his world collapse as his Rahal-Hogan Racing entry was too slow to earn a spot in the field of 33 starters. On the 25th anniversary of Rahal's nightmare scenario, he recounts his worst day at Indy and how the aftermath that followed was, to his surprise, anything but expected. The Indianapolis 500 can produce spectacular highs and devastating lows – a gamut of emotions that make it one of the best one-day sporting events. For Bobby Rahal, the 1986 edition proved to be his greatest moment in a successful career. With a dramatic pass in the final laps, he earned an emotional victory for his ailing car owner. Rahal would go on to win three CART season championships (1986, ’87, ’92), and would later enjoy Indy glory as an owner in 2004. Photo courtesy of Getty Images Audio clips courtesy of ABC Sports
