In this episode, I answer listener questions and share my insights and personal journey in managing time, balancing work and family, and staying grounded during the busy holiday season. I discuss my evolving approach to planning with young children and my strategies for maintaining peace during Christmas. My reflections offer listeners practical advice and encouragement to prioritize self-care while setting realistic expectations. Key Takeaways: 1. The Power of Consistent Planning I emphasize the importance of dedicating time each week for planning, regardless of the specific method I use. For me, Mondays work best because they provide fresh motivation, and I encourage others to find their own rhythm for planning. I also share how my planning practices have evolved since I created my planner. I transitioned from survival mode to a more structured approach, which helped me stay organized amidst the chaos. 2. Brittnie's Time Management Journey Reflecting on my journey over the past five years, I've seen how implementing routines has transformed my daily life. I believe starting morning and evening routines earlier would have made a significant difference for me. I remind myself that challenging phases in life are temporary. I've also learned to let go of non-essential tasks to reduce stress and focus on what truly matters. 3. Navigating Family Life and Independence Balancing family dynamics has been an ongoing challenge for me. At first, I thought toddlerhood would be the hardest phase, but I've realized that the demands of my older children and their activities are just as challenging, if not more so. I try to navigate my roles at work and home while making sure to spend quality time with my husband and take care of myself, all amidst our family responsibilities. 4. Time Management Strategies I outline my key strategies for effective time management, which include time blocking, using a planner, and utilizing organizing apps. I also have cleaning routines and morning and evening rituals that help me maintain order and reduce stress. By establishing systems in my business, I've streamlined client tasks, which allows me to focus more on my family during busy periods. 5. Managing Stress and Finding Peace During Christmas I simplify the Christmas season by setting boundaries and lowering my expectations. Growing up in a large family taught me the importance of prioritizing family time, so I now spend Christmas mornings at home with my immediate family. I encourage you to find your balance and create a peaceful holiday. For me, this means wrapping up work early in December, skipping the Elf on the Shelf tradition, and focusing on the season's true meaning. This week we'll talk to Brittnie Battle, a resident of Davidson County, Tennessee who has an enormous heart for animals in need. She and her partner have two rescue dogs of their own, and they have opened their home to countless fosters over the last few years, which she says has shaped her as a person.Brittnie also serves as the Director of Outreach for Charlie's Angels Saving Animals (CASA) Transport. This innovative organization takes animals from over-crowded Tennessee shelters and transports them to rescues in northern states without a pet overpopulation. “Just changing their zip code can give them a chance at life.” She says.CASA is a small organization with a big mission; they have transported over seven thousand animals out of Tennessee. Brittnie has a variety of responsibilities. She primarily is the “boots on the ground”, forming partnerships with local animal shelters and choosing individual animals for transport. She also occasionally drives them north herself, and of course often has a foster or two at home. Brittnie stresses that while she lives and breathes this cause, everyone can do something to help animals. There are opportunities for everyone's lifestyle; small actions matter, too. "It's so important to realize that it's not about just us in life,” Brittnie says. “There are other things that depend on us…It's sort of our duty to make sure that they're taken care of.”Find out more about Casa Transport: https://www.casatransport.org/This podcast is brought to you by Doing Good, a 501c3 nonprofit. www.doinggood.tv Read Brittnie's blog post at www.doinggood.tv/blog.

It offers a sense of structure, helping us allocate time efficiently and prioritize tasks effectively. In other words, adopting a routine encourages discipline, fosters focus, and augments our overall well-being. Discover the Power of Routine The strength of routine lies in its ability to transform our daily lives incrementally. It starts with small actions—putting toothbrushes in a holder, doing a load of laundry daily, or simply shutting off phones at a specific time. All these micro-changes can, over time, evolve into powerful habits and drastically improve our productivity. Handle Unexpected Challenges Adopting a routine can empower us to face unexpected hurdles with less panic and more poise. When things go awry, like missing an essential detail at work, instead of panicking, we can rely on our routine to provide a sense of normalcy and control. It creates a safety net that cushions the blow from unforeseen obstacles, enhancing our mental resilience. Quotes “What really stood out to me on my journey was how many people that I was able to lean on, like connections that supported me…[and it was the same experience] when I launched my business. When I started networking and connecting in the community, people want to refer locally and they want to get to know who they're referring.” - Brittnie Simon, (15:43) “If you have your cup and it's full of creative juices, and as you're doing things you kind of lose it, and if you don't have a way to refill it…then you're kind of at the end of your cup and you're not doing successful work. So being able to say, hey my cup's empty and build that communication there, then we can pivot and help give you opportunities to refill.” - Brittnie Simon, (20:26) “I think there's a misunderstanding of what consistency means [on social media], and I think that's the biggest challenge. Consistency isn't posting every day. Can you post weekly, on a regular basis consistently? Even if it's once or twice a week. You just determine your level of consistency and commit to it.” - Brittnie Simon, (29:25) “The other thing I've learned is that social media is a long game. Marketing is a long game. So trying to see return on investment one week after you started posting consistently is going to dishearten you…You're probably going to be putting effort in for about a year before you'll see those results.” - Brittnie Simon, (33:37)

Trying to find clients can feel so overwhelming, but the truth is it doesn't have to be hard. In this episode, Krista and Brittnie chat about how they attract their dream clients in a way that feels natural, authentic, and not overly complicated. Krista Marie is a business coach, photographer, and host of the She Calls Her Shots podcast -- a show dedicated to creative business owners. She helps creatives develop a mindset focused around success & teaches them how to implement the simple, effective strategies they need to grow a sustainable, thriving business! Her experience as a personal brand photographer also helps to support her clients in identifying their own unique personal brand. Highlights of this episode: The importance of consistently sharing value with your audience -- creating sustainable systems for yourself so you can show up from a place of giving value instead of checking off a to-do from your list by sharing Leading with service (instead of sales) -- always asking how you can provide more value to your audience & focusing on that (instead of trying to share the perfect story/create the perfect IG grid/perfect launch strategy, etc.) The importance of an incredible client experience -- how can you show them before they book the amount of value (content/guides/worksheets/questionnaires, etc) that you will provide? Blog posts? Workshops? Quantity vs. quality (The power of 1) -- remembering that it only takes 1 amazing client to produce limitless leads! Focus on each client by giving them your best and trust that your business will grow from there! “YOU THERE, OGRE!“On this episode, we cover the first film to ever take home the Best Animated Picture at the Oscars. We talk about the first film in the Dreamworks tent-pole franchise, Shrek, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, starring Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow. What was it about Shrek that permeated throughout pop culture for over twenty years since its original release? Was it the fact that it was book-ended by two catchy Smash Mouth tracks? Because it lampooned all of the Disney films we grew up with and came out during the years where we wanted more edgy comedy? Or maybe because it provided the perfect meme template rivaled only by SpongeBob? Perhaps it's a combination of everything above. We talk about how the comedy in this film still works to this day. So much of the comedy comes from making fun of fairy tales made popular by Disney, and potentially making fun of people working at Disney, but some of the comedy is on a layer aimed for the adults in the audience. Watching the film 20 years later gives us a whole new level of jokes to notice that we might have missed as kids.We talk about how the comedy of the film doesn't completely bury the story. While often times our entertainment media might indulge in meta humor, it might come at the expense of the sincerity of the story. Shrek is a little different. While a huge part of the movie is all the jokes made about the fairy tale genre, the film doesn't forget about what it's trying to say about it's underdog characters. We talk about the legacy of Shrek. While it was great box office success in 2001, spawned two movie franchises, it also meant a lot of different things to a lot of different people. The song All-Star became a hit (again) and inspired some creative people to create mashups and remixes. We talk about how the love story in the film has since become a source of inspiration for real life weddings. We also take a look at some fan fiction that ranges from bizarrely sincere and sweet, to criminally obscene. If you have never heard the phrase “Shrek is love, Shrek is life,” don't look it up unless you want to revisit peak “no holds barred“ message board ‘humor.' Seriously.. its gross.Joining us on this episode is Brittnie who chose to talk about Shrek. We love talking to people about their favorite movies, and we were very curious as to what she had to say!We hope you enjoy this episode, and keep a lookout for our upcoming PATREON launch!Music is from Triune Digital and audio clips pulled from movies we will be reviewing in other episodes.Artwork by @jannelle_o

Here's a hard truth: whether we do it intentionally or not, we tend to think of rescue dogs as “broken." It may not be a conscious thought. It might not be deliberate. But our behaviors often show that this belief is there inside of us. This week we're bringing back Brittnie Battle of Charlie's Angels Saving Animals (CASA), a 501c3 non-profit rescue transport organization in Tennessee, to share insight on how we can look inward and shift our mindset about rescue dogs.Jenny and Katya catch up with Brittnie and explore a wide range of topics from kennel cough to caring for sick dogs to how shelters with limited resources do it, how they go on, when they can sometimes barely meet the basic needs of the animals in care. The trio discusses if these same dogs, many who experience a reality of scarcity in their environment, can bounce back and heal from the learned desperation and possibly from learned resource guarding, and how that kind of guarding may differ from dogs with a genetic predisposition to resource guard. Still, these ladies manage to keep things lighthearted and get back to chatting about whether “ugly” dogs (and cats) exist. Spoiler alert: they do! But they insist that there's magic to ugliness and that of course it doesn't mean these animals are any less lovable. Brittnie even shows how “ugliness” can be embraced by introducing Katya and Jenny to Mandu the Warthog Dog! Finally, Brittnie, Jenny, and Katya reveal their New Year resolutions and invite their listeners to donate and help CASA Transport and Better Together Dog Rescue reach their 2023 goals.Happy new year, wonderful community of animal lovers.
