As a 50 Shades of Planning Podcast listener you will be perceptive enough to have spotted that the United Kingdom has left the European Union. Town Planners will have noted in so doing that the regulatory regime for the assessment of environmental impact within the UK's planning processes has been at least heavily influenced by, and at most grown to mirror, the rules, regulations and judgements emanating from and handed down in Brussells and Strasbourg. Environmental Assessment is on the Government's ‘to do list', though perhaps not very near the top. Environment Minister George Eustice said in July 2020 that a new consultation on changing our approach to environmental assessment and mitigation in the planning system would be launched that Autumn. It wasn't, but when it does appear what will it herald for EA in the UK after the EU? Is Brexit a welcome opportunity to reset EA on to a more proportionate footing? Is Brexit an unwelcome threat to a well-established regulatory regime that could be exploited through gaps in an ever-evolving planning process? Might Brexit actually be both? Sam Stafford puts these questions to Janice Morphet (Visiting Professor at UCL), Simon Ricketts (Partner at Town Legal LLP) and Lucy Wood (Director in the National Infrastructure & Environmental Planning Team at Barton Willmore). Simon is on Twitter at @sricketts1 and Janice is @janicemorphet. Lucy wisely steers clear. Some accompanying reading. Geoff got his first camera, a Brownie 127, when he was 8. From then on his career was clear. He went through a range of cameras getting better every time. In his own words "I was trying to celebrate 30 years of shooting commercials by making a "favourite 10" video. I couldn't do it so there are 11 :-) Starting in 1985 a lot are from SD and uppressed but they seem to hold up pretty well.I started as a stills assistant in fashion & advertising in 1970, moving into moving images in 1973. After shooting news, documentaries and music videos I made the move to commercials in 1985. I finally made the move to movies in 2005 after a couple of false starts :-)I've always been excited about creating images and the technology to create those images. I'm still as excited about filming now as I was when I started. I also believe strongly in sharing knowledge and training, this is reflected in the Cinematography Mailing List which I established in 1996 and the amount of workshops that I teach. I have taught workshops in..New York, London, Bristol, Bucharest, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussells, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Munich, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Singapore, Auckland, Colombo, Hannover and Mumbai.I've won awards from:-SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) Eastman Gold medalBKSTS (British Kinematograph, Sound & Television Society) appointed FellowBSC (British Society of Cinematographers) Bert Hardy Technical AchivementACS (Australian Cinematographers Society) honorary memberNSC (Netherlands Society of Cinematographers) full memberIn November 2013 I was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of the West of England." This piece has been released to coincide with the first virtual International Fluid Academy Day (IFAD). TopMedTalk listeners have enjoyed following the meeting annually for some time now; we're equally as excited about their online proposition. This piece is a chance to hear a now famous discussion which TopMedTalk recorded at the Peroperative Quality Initiative (POQI) at Washington Duke University in Durham. The discussion is predominately about total body water, electrolytes and the movement of fluid around the body; the idea of circulation of interstitial fluid; the Starling Curve and lymphatics; sodium balance and, at the end, there's a moment when the speakers agree to disagree about whether saline is "abnormal" or not. If you would like to find out more about IFAD go here: https://www.fluidacademy.org/ Presented by Monty Mythen and Henry Howe with their guests Tom Woodcock, an independent consultant in patient safety, medical law and ethics, and Manu Malbrain, Professor at Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacology Vrije University in Brussells.
