Sorj Chalendon "Mon traître"  (2008 Grasset) et "retour à Killybegs" (2011 Grasset) C'est le choix de livres de Christian de la Villehuchet, Chief Integration Officer du groupe Havas. "Le traître"  À Belfast en 1977, Antoine (surnommé ensuite Tony), luthier à Paris, violoniste et passionné de musique traditionnelle irlandaise, fait la connaissance de Tyrone, vétéran de l'IRA, l'Armée républicaine irlandaise.  En 1979, Tyrone est arrêté par les Britanniques (pas par l'IRA) et libéré en 1981. Tony et Tyrone se voient régulièrement.  Tyrone est arrêté de nouveau en 2006, cette fois par l'IRA. Il avoue que – « retourné » après sa sortie de prison en 1981 par les services secrets britanniques, sur chantage de la révélation d'un secret inavouable  à ses compagnons de l'IRA –, il est devenu un agent double et a vendu des infos aux Anglais depuis 1981. Après la trêve de 1994, il est « lâché » par les services secrets qui le manipulaient – pour semer la haine parmi les républicains radicaux –. L'IRA déclare à Tony qu'il ne pourra plus venir en Ulster. Tyrone est tué en 2007 par un commando. Dans "Retour à Killybegs", le récit se concentre sur la vie de Tyrone, de son enfance marquée par la violence d'un père alcoolique, républicain pur et dur avec ses enfants, sur le ghetto catholique de Belfast soumis à la violence intercommunautaire et à celle de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, de ses premiers pas comme combattant de l'IRA et jusqu'à son destin de traître. It's not when one walks away being the loser, and one walks away being the winner. We find value when everybody walks out of the room and feels like they've won. Therefore, positioning is very important in negotiations, in client-agency relationships, in boss and staff relationships, and in business in general.  Establishing VaynerX as a Holding Company  In order for you to be a $500-million integrated, independent, international communications company, you're going to have to be more than a social media advertising company. You need a structure when you're growing an empire. As a result, VaynerX became the holding company and Sasha Group is under this VaynerX umbrella. There needs to be a clear head at the top of it, with a vision to take it forward. The Bible says that without a vision, the people perish. So the same thing holds for a company. Gary is the social media guy but you can't be $500 million being the social media guy so he had to be more than that. So he worked hard on it. He acquired companies, spun off a tech company from his media department, and started a new company. On the day he announced  The Sasha Group, they had 4,700 inquiries in 48 hours. This is episode #22 and is the second part of my conversation with Charlie Feld. Once you have finished with this episode be sure to listen to last weeks episode #21 and part 1 of my conversation where Charlie shares his extraordinary 50-year career helping organizations and executives achieve IT-driven transformation, how the IT industry lacked a formal framework, and how IT needs to handle the speed of change for their organizations to be successful. Charlie began his career as a systems engineer at IBM, before the world grasped what a computer was. As that changed, the company’s exponential growth opened up opportunities for Charlie. At 26 Charlie was named the lead of a new team in Dallas, where he oversaw the company’s Frito-Lay account, and a little more than a decade into his time at IBM, he left the company for the PepsiCo-owned snack maker. Two years later, in 1983, Charlie was promoted to vice president and chief information officer at Frito-Lay. After 12 years with Frito-Lay, Charlie formed an organization, The Feld Group Institute, that would do interim CIO work. These teams would enter companies in need, clean up issues on the IT side, and – crucially – leave the companies with a foundation to continue succeeding after departure. Currently as the founder and CEO of The Feld Group Institute, but with a career as long as there has been an IT industry, Charlie is considered the First CIO in corporate America and has led transformation efforts for organizations including Frito-Lay, Southwest Airlines, Coca-Cola, The Home Depot, Delta, FedEx, EDS and BNSF. On this weeks episode Charlie provides his perspective on what makes a modern day CIO, and how can they be successful. To begin with he wants to rename the CIO role from Chief Information Officer to Chief Integration Officer. Other than perhaps the COO, the CIO (the Chief Integration Officer) needs to truly understand the full extent of a business and the integration points across each function - from sales and marketing, to manufacturing and distribution, to finance and support. A modern-day CIO needs to step into the conversation with their leadership team, be collaborative, be passionate, be part of the conversation about the Who, the What, and the How and be a storyteller to get buy-in to a multi-year story that will lead to a multi-year plan. Charlie recommends to start with the story, the outline, and direction to get buy-in, don’t jump straight into detailed projects and specifics. Charlie goes on to discuss the multiple risks (i.e. Cybersecurity) in not modernizing legacy IT technology, with one of the major risks to your existing business is that your IT leadership who understand your legacy systems will be retiring in the next 5-10 years and taking that knowledge with them. This should be a real concern for all organizations, and is something relatively easy to wrap your head around - but the solution is not to train your newer staff on old technologies, but rather to modernize these systems. The modernization of an organization’s legacy IT can no longer be ignored, the risks to site and system reliability and the risks to not being able to build for the future are too high. To be able to be ready for the future, whilst modernizing the legacy technology of their organization, Charlie recommends building integration hubs tying together your organization and build for change so that you don’t start to create a new batch of legacy IT that needs to be modernized again in ten years time. Do you start with the financial aspects, do start with trying to understand it as a general business, do you try to understand it as a process that doesn't maybe exist yet? 25:18 - Because you do have this financial experience I'm sure you're looking at profit and loss statements. How does your job interact with the CFO world? How do you and Alan work together? 27:23 - So a big part of your role is efficiency. What are the metrics to gauge efficiency? If something is not efficient, where do you start looking to streamline it? 28:12 - So then how do you think about the strategy - in general for growth and expansion, is it usually coming up with new offerings, is it about bringing in more business for the same offerings? 30:55 - We’re definitely going to talk about Vaynermentors, but even just talking about the 4 D’s and other offerings like AI and voice services, how do you guys figure out what to charge?
