The Gospel Manifesto in the Book of Romans Pt. 2: The Bad News, Romans 1:18-3:20 By Louie Marsh, 5-4-2025 3 Cartoons, And Finally… Doctor: "I have good news and bad news." Patient: "Go with the good news first." Doctor: "You have 24 hours to live." Patient: "What?! How about the bad news?" Doctor: Um... I forgot to tell you yesterday." 1) God wrath (anger) is stirred when I REPRESS the truth. 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Romans 1:18-23 (ESV) 2) God honors my free will by allowing me to SIN. 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. Romans 1:24-25 (ESV) 26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; Romans 1:26 (ESV) HOMOSEXUALITY IN ANCIENT ROME: The primary dichotomy of ancient Roman sexuality was active/dominant/masculine and passive/submissive/"feminized". In Roman society the freeborn male citizen possessed political liberty and the right to rule both himself and his household. "Virtue" was seen as an active quality through which a man defined himself. The conquest mentality and "cult of virility" shaped same-sex relations. Roman men were free to enjoy sex with other males without a perceived loss of masculinity or social status, as long as they took the dominant role. Acceptable male partners were slaves, prostitutes, and entertainers, Although Roman men in general seem to have preferred youths between the ages of 12 and 20 as sexual partners, freeborn male minors were strictly off-limits, and professional prostitutes and entertainers might be considerably older. Same-sex relations among women are less documented. The Augustan poet Ovid takes an exceptionally keen interest, but advocates for a heterosexual lifestyle contrary to Roman sexual norms. 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. Romans 1:28-32 (ESV) Ways We Suppress the Truth: · DENIAL · No one's PERFECT · I was BORN that way. Dear Dr. Roach: I read your recent column regarding identical twins where one of the two was balding while his twin was not. Within my family, there are identical twin brothers, who also were almost impossible for family members to differentiate. If their DNA genes are “identical,” now that they are adults, how can one be homosexual, while his twin is married with children? Studies have shown that in identical twins, if one twin is gay (the term “homosexual” is used in clinical studies but is considered offensive, so I won't use it further), then 30 per cent to 66 per cent of the identical twins also will be gay. As this is much higher than the overall rate in the population, this suggests some, but not absolute, genetic influence. However, an adopted sibling of a gay person is also more likely to be gay (11 per cent in one study), suggesting that the familial environment also plays a significant role. Some people who are attracted to the same gender can be so afraid of, or put off by, the social stigma against same-sex couples that they marry and have children with a person of the opposite sex despite being primarily or uniquely attracted to those of the same gender. Some people have found that they may be attracted to a person of either gender; their choice of life partner depends more on the partner's personality and their unique situation than on his or her biological sex. Sexual identity is not a choice. We cannot choose to whom we will be attracted. I'm afraid many people fundamentally misunderstand this point. *** Dramatic confirmation that the sea ice in the Arctic has been stable for nearly two decades is contained in a recently published science paper from a team led by Dr Mark England from the University of Exeter. The finding is of course obvious to anyone who studies the data but it will inconvenience the activist cranks who continue to promote supposed reductions in Arctic sea ice as an important sign of their imaginary ‘tipping points' and their fake climate crisis. Despite the data showing the ice has been stable over every month in the year since around 2007. ************ Living together before marriage increasing the changes of getting a divorce. 3) When I condemn others I'm really just condemning MYSELF. 1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things… 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? Romans 2:1, 3-4 (ESV) 4) I must be PERFECT to be good enough for heaven. 12 For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. Romans 2:12-13 (ESV) 5) I'm just as much a sinner as EVERYONE ELSE. 9 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God…20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin. Romans 3:9-11, 20 (ESV) 6) God's answer to sin is FAITH in Jesus. 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Galatians 2:16 (ESV) 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:11-14 (ESV)

Discover how the Enlifted Method empowers CrossFit Coaches, Affiliate Owners, and athletes to break through mental barriers and unlock their full potential. In this episode, Mark England shares actionable mindset tools that transform negative self-talk into clarity, confidence, and growth for individuals and communities alike.
Breaking free from a victim mentality feels like an uphill battle, especially when life's challenges seem relentless. It's easy to feel stuck, as if circumstances are always working against you. Taking control of your mindset starts with small shifts—focusing on what you can change rather than what's out of your hands. Over time, those small changes build momentum, helping you see that even in tough moments, you have the power to shape your response and move forward. Mark England, co-founder and head coach of Enlifted, has over 18 years of experience helping individuals and organizations transform their lives through the power of words and mindset. Dedicated to breaking the cycle of victim mentality, he empowers others to reach their full potential. Mark defines mindset as "the story you tell yourself," a simple yet powerful reminder of the impact our internal dialogue has on shaping our reality. Join in as young leaders pose inquiries about life, personal development, and beyond! Quotes: “Your mindset is the story you tell yourself.” – Mark England “When you learn to think about your thinking, you become alive in a new way.” – Mark England “The faster the story goes, the harder it is to change. So if you want your children to listen to you, slow down your rate of speech. It's easier.” – Mark England “Simplicity is evidence of genius. That is what I always strive for, and often fail at—creating simplicity in all that we are doing and things that I am saying—because it denotes an awareness and understanding that chaos cannot.” – Matt Beaudreau Takeaways: Slow down your rate of speech and incorporate intentional breathing when telling your own stories - this helps make them more meaningful and impactful. Identify and replace "soft talk" language (words like "maybe," "hopefully," "guess") with more confident, assertive phrasing to improve decision-making and reduce indecision. Write down your biggest questions for the year and explore how that differs from keeping them in your head - this can unlock new insights and clarity. Celebrate your wins from the previous year by titling them like a movie and describing them in detail - this builds evidence of your capabilities. Examine the stories you tell yourself about your identity, abilities, and circumstances - are they serving you, or is it time to rewrite the narrative? Conclusion: Changing how we speak to ourselves, selecting words intentionally, and celebrating progress can boost confidence and improve decision-making. These habits encourage a positive mindset and equip us to tackle challenges with clarity and assurance. Over time, they build self-worth and enhance our ability to handle both personal and professional decisions. This shift in perspective can transform how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

Mark emphasizes the profound impact of language on our beliefs and actions, particularly the act of verbalizing ambitious goals. The potency of written language and its role in crystallizing goals and aspirations cannot be ignored. By simply refining our language and affirmations—pairing them with mindful breathing—we can redefine our reality. As Coaches, using empowering language can drastically reshape a client's self-belief and progress. Words, whether spoken or written, have a ripple effect far beyond individual transformations, impacting communities and generations. When wielded wisely, they can become tools for profound personal and professional evolution. Remember, transforming one's mindset isn't just about embracing a growth mentality; it's about recognizing the words' immense power to shape that journey. ______ If you want to turn your business around, become profitable (or MORE profitable), and enjoy being a CrossFit Affiliate Owner...we want to work with you. Welcome to Wes' first interview in the new studio! Wes checks in with his good friend Nikki Pavlovich one year after their last interview. Much has happened since then.Nikki is now a part of Wes' network by helping him with his podcast. She writes the show notes for the episodes and shorts and posts the shorts to YouTube. Nikki was an English major in college, and is a writer. She developed writers' block some years ago and is working on getting past it. She is slowly getting back to writing creatively, but a busy life keeps her from doing it regularly right now. Wes is reminded of a thought that optimism won't make you successful, but pessimism guarantees no success. A mental block can be an old way of thinking. For example “ What if it doesn't work?” Instead of “What if it does?” Nikki keeps challenging herself to keep growing. One way she's challenging herself is through Toastmasters. Last year, her best friend suggested she join to help with public speaking since she and Wes will be doing a radio show. On November 1, 2022, Nikki joined Toastmasters. This has helped her gain confidence in public speaking and meeting new people. The people she's met through Toastmasters are amazing and supportive of her efforts. Nikki gave her first speech at Toastmasters and ended up winning Best Speaker. She was very surprised, but Wes was not because he knew how much she prepared for it. He says he bets others are not surprised either. She and Wes discuss the importance of doing the work and letting that show how good a person is. There is no need to brag, but be proud of the hard work put in.To prepare for speeches, Nikki organizes what she wants to say in an introduction, body of the speech, and the conclusion. After rehearsing the speech a few times, she then records the speech on her phone mostly for time. Growth has been obtained through Toastmasters by meeting new people and getting used to getting up in front of people and talking. She gets lots of support and great feedback from the other members. She is getting more and more comfortable with the process.Another way she is growing is using the Enlifted Method. She did an Instagram live with Mark England the co-creator of the Enlifted method. Nikki is looking forward to further improving her public speaking through Toastmasters and getting out of her comfort zone more. She wants to continue to learn from Wes and the network he's created. #shapingsuccesspodcast #westankersley #patreon #toastmasters #markengland #enlifted #growth #rock #speech #motivationalmusichour #writer #support #breath #interview #optimismFollow Nikki onTik Tok: http://TikTok.com/thebaconlovernikki Http://TikTok.com/thebaconlover2.0 Instagram: http://instagram.com/nikkipav1_ Facebook: http://facebook.com/Nikkipavlovich Follow Wes onEmail: wes@westankersley.comPatreon: Patreon.com/Wes TankersleyLinkedIn: LinkedIn.com/westankersleyFacebook: facebook.com/westankersley Facebook.com/successwarriorcrewInstagram; instagram.com/wes.tankersleySupport the showFor merchandise, podcast and youtube: westankersley.com Check out our sponsor The Warriors Collection for coffee, gear and more use code TANK at check out for a special Discount! https://warriorscollectionbrand.com/ Follow Shaping Success https://shapingsuccesspodcast.buzzsprout.com/ Email Wes@westankersley.com for guest ideas or to be on the show!

In this episode, EC and Mark England discuss the significance of mindset in attaining health and fitness goals. They emphasize how our self-narratives shape our outcomes and how the speed of our thoughts impacts our ability to make positive changes. The concept of victim mentality is explored, highlighting its hindrance to progress. Some actionable advice you'll get when you tune in:
In this episode, I speak with Mark England of the “Enlifted Method”—a coaching system that will help you shed any victim stories you have through the very careful and thoughtful process that Mark has been teaching to people for many years (you can learn more about it on his website, enlifted.me). The show starts with Mark sharing his own story as he explains how important words, story, and breath are to helping us disengage and do some more productive thinking about the way we think. This is such an interesting premise that we've discussed on the show before—how much our past programming and traumas (both large and small) can affect and compromise our ability to enjoy and be productive in everyday life. You will love Mark's engaging and casual storytelling style, and the conversation gets pretty deep as we talk about the things that keep us stuck in life—after listening to this episode, you will never again be cavalier about the words you use to describe your own life and the things that have happened to you. As you will hear, it's not about what happened to you—it's about what you think has happened to you that makes the biggest difference. TIMESTAMPS: It is not what happened to you, it's what you think about what happened to you. [00:43] Sometimes when you repeat the story of your experience several times, it begins to change course. [06:42] The organization teaches people the power of their words. People who come to them are most interested in learning about the victim mentality and goal setting. [13:01] The definition of the victim mentality is an acquired personality trait where a person tends to regard himself or herself as the victim of the negative actions of others. Even in the absence of clear evidence. [15:29] It's easy to see the worst in people and take things personally when your breath is trapped in your chest. [16:40] Why is breath so integral to your process? [23:29] Until you get into the story, it is really hard to get out. [28:51] Most of us have a recurring theme from unprocessed childhood trauma that plays out for the rest of our lives. [34:52] Does this method run afoul of traditional psychotherapy and counseling? [41:55] Self-deprecating internal dialog can be examined by writing it down, and read aloud several times. [44:09] The more emotional one is about their story, the more attached they are to how the words are put together. [47:29] Breathing is an important part of this training. [48:55] What people take this Enlifted Method Workshop that Mark teaches? [54:20] After listening to this show, what can a listener do to understand this process? On this episode Wes goes solo and goes over his past few episodes with Enlifted coaches Mark England, Megan Henry, and Jerika Maher. He also gives us a taste of what's to come in future episodes teasing some changes that are coming to the Shaping Success podcast. Wes talks about how someone can choose their words to reflect the positive. For example, one might say "I've got to go to work today." He says people can change that around and say "I get to go to work today." There are people that can't work or are having trouble finding a job. People work so they can get the stuff they need and want. Wes points out he's building a house, and without working, he wouldn't be able to get that house. Wes also touches on the importance of teaching someone as opposed to just doing it for them. They are given knowledge, and what they do with it is out of your control. It's possible they'll do better with that knowledge than you. It is important to seek knowledge any way possible such as through reading. Time management is an important factor. What do people do with their time? Do they waste it watching TV and scrolling through social media all day, or do they manage their time in such a way that they are able to exercise, do a podcast, work, and make time for their family? It's all about choice. People are in control of their own time. Another interesting topic Wes brings up is timelines. Parents and perhaps siblings are possibly the only ones that know a person from the time they are born. Anyone else a person comes across will meet them at a certain time such as 42 years old. That person will not know what happened before 42 unless that person tells him. This is why people judge others without knowing their past. If they see someone driving around in a nice car, they don't know what that person did to earn that car. They didn't see the hard work that person put in to get that car. That person saw the success but not the failures that went though before he found success. For future podcasts, Wes teases about having a cohost? Who could it be?
