Tom Haig visited the University of Illinois to consider joining the diving team and stayed because of the educational opportunity. Then post graduation, after a unique trip to Italy with his brother, they made "The Bridge to Venice Rule." The focus is taking the more difficult route in life to live it to the fullest. After traveling the world as a professional diver, Tom was in an unfortunate biking accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. In this episode, we discuss all of this and more because the rule is still in effect, and Tom has not slowed down while he still treks the globe as a public speaker, documentarian, and consultant. Due to time constraints, I had to leave out some of his adventures, including his Mas Bravos Award while Cliff Diving in Acapulco, a brief "prison stint," and his tours in Dubai and Oman... Arend and Thomas share details from their recent trips to Toronto, Canada and Lanai, Hawaii and all the fun in between. Thomas made a new bff who cooked him a romantic dinner then went scuba diving for mermaids. Arend did shots of maple syrup in Canada, snuck into some of the closed areas at Casa Loma, and had an unforgettable experience switching seats on the plane with a women and her baby. As a side note, this episode was recorded just before the fires that took place in Maui, which made it crazy to hear about the fires as I was editing this episode. Our hearts and donations have since gone out to the victims and those impacted and we encourage our small handful of listeners to do the same. The infamous variety of yips that afflicts aerial athletes, the twisties is a term which describes the experience of athletes who lose their sense of proprioception, or their awareness of where their bodies are in space. It was this unusual malady that led to Simone Biles stepping away from the 2020 Summer Olympics, and although she may be the best known athlete to have battled the twisties, Simone Biles is far from the only athlete who has experienced it. To better understand this strange and dangerous phenomenon, Justin sits down with Aimee Boorman, one of the top gymnastics coaches in the world and the former coach of Simone Biles herself. This week on THE ROE SHOW I sit down with Red Bull Cliff Diver Andy Jones. Andy and I discuss the world of cliff diving, how he became a Red Bull athlete and some of his competition stories surrounding one of the most popular sports on TV today. With10 podium finishes, including one victory and two overall thirds in 49 competitions between 2011 and 2019, he is one of the best divers in the world with an extensive cliff diving career. Andy Jones, who describes himself as sarcastic, clever and genuine, lists baseball, acrobatics and freestyle skiing as his major drivers. Over the past few years, the tall, California born athlete has taught himself the art of filmmaking and is the creative mind of USA Cliff Diving, who aim to raise awareness for their sport through a candid approach to documenting their experiences. If there is one person to ask about fear and doubt, it’s Rhiannan Iffland. In 2016, in her rookie season and with a wildcard entry, she walked away with the 2016 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series title. And this past weekend, she has just successfully defended her title after victory at an event in Chile. Rhiannan grew up on Lake Macquarie, just north of Sydney, Australia and now travels the world high diving off everything from cliffs, bridges, platforms, waterfalls and even helicopters. 2017-7-30 Cliff Diving Demon Pigs by Twin Falls Reformed Church

Sorry about the slow uploading - too much work to do.  Got to pay the bills.  Lots of new Garage Hour coming in May. This vintage reload is all about the 'froadin: we have near-death experiencer Cliff-Diving Dave in-studio to talk about how he's not dead, despite his Jeep's best efforts to fling him off a cliff on Saddleback in Orange County.  Seriously, above-the-clouds cliff.  Fortunately, there were a bunch of Toyotas nearby to save him. Dave #1 and Dave #4 join in the usual Garage Hour fare after that: V8 BMW M3s versus V-10 Dodges, homologation versus homos, Speedvision versus Fox and Fox Network versus gearheads, the Isle of Mann Tourist Trophy, historic road racing on Torrey Pines, off-roading in San Diego, plus sasquatches and bears and what caliber is better than a .22LR (all of them).  Then we counsel Cliff-Diving Dave about tow points and off-roading with friends, and then it's off to Ballas with Dollas for Gamblothon at Barona Drags. Because gearhead.
