A member of the 2017 Ontario Hockey League Champion Erie Otters returns to the team's coaching staff, as General Manager Dave Brown announced the hiring of Wes Wolfe as Assistant Coach today. The 32-year-old native of Niagara Falls, ON comes back to Erie after spending the 2021-22 season as the General Manager and Head Coach of the Ontario Junior Hockey League's Cobourg Cougars. Prior to last season, Wolfe spent five seasons with the Erie Otters from 2016-2021 as Assistant Coach. “Leaving Erie [in 2021] was an extremely tough decision, but it was important for my own career to take the step and get more experience leading an organization.” said Wolfe, “Taking some of those lessons about establishing a culture of your own and what it takes to bring an organization from where you start to where you want it go. There were a lot of really good lessons that I'll be able to bring back into this role with Erie.” In his previous role as Otters' Assistant Coach, Wolfe worked alongside then-Assistant and now-Head Coach BJ Adams – including their work in the team's run for the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 2017. “[Coach Adams] is someone that I admire a lot. He's a great communicator, somebody who has a vision, and knows the steps he needs to take to put it into place. The old phrase is that ‘you win a championship and you walk together forever', and so those memories of what it took [to win the 2017 Championship], you build a special bond.” said Wolfe, “To see the progress in the short period of time that he was able to achieve with [last year's team], I'm really looking forward to being part of the coaching staff with BJ and Vince [Laise].” Coach BJ Adams, who was named the ninth Head Coach in team history in November 2021, enters his first full-season as bench boss for the Otters – and does so with high-praise for his newest assistant. “[Wes] brings an incredible work ethic, high positive-energy kind of person, really relates well with the players. We're really excited to have him joining our staff, and I think he'll round it out well for us.” said Adams, “The players should be excited too, because he's great at developing guys.” Erie's bench staff now features three coaches with head coaching experience in Head Coach BJ Adams, Assistant Coach Vince Laise [Hamilton, 2019-20], and Assistant Coach Wes Wolfe [OJHL, GOJHL]. All three have laid claim to an OHL Championship as coaches in the last five years as well. The Erie Otters welcome back Coach Wes Wolfe, and look forward to seeing him back behind the bench going into the 2022-23 season. #livewithcdp #podcast #weswolfe #erieotters #ontariohockeyleague #assistantcoach #cobourgcougars #generalmanager #hockey #guest #youtubechannel #facebooklive #twitter #audio #applepodcasts #googlepodcasts #anchorfm #spotify #radiopublic #breaker #pocketcasts #linkedin #niagarafallsontario #chrispomay #ontariojuniorhockeyleague

Every hero STARTS as a CHILD, and every Child can CHOOSE to become a Hero... Just like THIS one! In P.E. class, Coach Adams was having a discussion about health. He reviewed the key points to good health: exercise (both physical and mental), diet, hygiene, fresh air, and sunshine. When he talked about sunshine, one of the boys laughed and said, “Yeah, Marcus got plenty of sunshine yesterday planting flowers with his mother!” Coach Adams looked at the boy. “You got something against sunshine?” The boy said no. “You got a problem with flowers?” Again, the boy said no. “You got a problem with somebody spending time with their mom?” The guys were always teasing Marcus about his love for working with plants. He would rather be in a vegetable garden or a flower garden than anyplace else! And he knew a great deal about horticulture. Coach Adams explained that we really need people like Marcus because they HELP in so many ways. “Where do you think most of the food comes from that you eat?” said the coach. One boy said, “The grocery store?” Coach Adams just looked at him… “Farms,” he said. “And from farmers, who are very knowledgeable about growing plants. And what about all the flowers and shrubs that make homes, and buildings, and parks look so nice—where do they come from? People like Marcus who love growing them. “And one more thing,” said the coach. “When my little brother was growing up, he was just like Marcus. I used to laugh at him and his little flowers. Well, today he owns a very successful landscaping company in three states, and he makes a LOT of money. So, you see, there are many of opportunities out there for someone like Marcus to HELP the world in some very big ways. If I were you,” said the coach, “I'd be nice to Marcus. He could be a real HERO someday!” That's what I know about the beginning of This Hero, and I know that YOU Can Be a Hero TOO! Dear Parents, After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. There's been a lot of receiver talk this fall, and it sounds like there's been plenty of good reasons why. On Tuesday, the media spoke with Washington Receivers Coach Junior Adams, as well as junior receiver Terrell Bynum. Coach Adams and Bynum didn't give up much on how the role of the receivers has changed in John Donovan's new pro-style attack, but they did talk about being multiple like they were last year under Bush Hamdan, but clearly with some wrinkles involved. They also talked about placing emphasis on being a bigger receivers room than last year, which means also being more physical; not only when it comes to blocking downfield, but also at the point of attack and trying to get off the line of scrimmage. There has also been a lot of talk about the true freshmen who have come in and hit the ground running. Jalen McMillan, Rome Odunze, and Sawyer Racanelli have all received praise this fall at one time or another by the coaches or their teammates, and both Adams and Bynum talked more about what has prepared those guys to play right away and what they need to do to take their next steps. Bynum was asked about being one of the new leaders of the receivers room, what he learned from players last year like seniors Aaron Fuller and Andre Baccellia, as well as what he's seen when watching film of players like Cooper Kupp. Last, but definitely not least, the media spoke with junior placekicker Peyton Henry, who answered questions about his physical and mental development as UW's lead kicker, being in a position battle with another scholarship placekicker in Tim Horn, as well as how made kicks and missed kicks provide fuel and motivation for him as he continues to hone in on his craft. As many of you Daily Hustlers know, I went to Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California... For a long time the Saint Francis football program was one of the best in the nation and ran off 8 consecutive CCS championships. Under the direction of legendary head coach Ron Calcagno, the program resembled more of a highly efficient and effective institution than your run of the mill high school football team... Year in and year out, Coach Calcagno and his staff got the absolute most out of the talent and the wins just kept piling up. Recently, I was on a run with a teammate of mine from St. Francis, Jason Henderson, and we reminisced about our High School glory days... “Dude, remember the silent bus rides?” Ironic that Hendu would ask that question because just a few days earlier, my kids were bickering in the back of our van and I implemented the silent van ride rule for the rest of the trip! The silent bus ride was a Saint Francis ritual: no headphones, no conversation, just you and your thoughts for however long the ride was... At the time, I didn't think much about it... I simply thought about the upcoming game and envisioned the different plays we had practiced throughout the week. When we arrived, we were a bunch of testosterone filled teenagers that just went through a metaphysical transcendent experience... By the time we completed our warm up routine and got into the game, to say we were READY would be a gigantic understatement. So what exactly did the silent bus ride do for a bunch of overcharged Go Hards looking to unleash fury? Save Energy - Obviously game day can be filled with rallies, parades and a rush of emotions that start the minute we get up that morning... The silent bus ride provided a huge recharge opportunity a few hours before our teenage version of the clash of the titans... Visualization - As we got onto the bus, assistant coach/bus driver Coach Adams would say, “Silent bus ride gentlemen, think about your assignments, think about execution.” Sure my mind would drift but ultimately it would go back to the game, the play book and visualization of the different formations we would potentially face throughout the game... Gratitude - Many times in life we don't ever slow down to appreciate where we are and what we are actually doing... Sure, being immersed in the process is mandatory but by being able to reflect on how grateful we are for our opportunities, an entire new perspective that helps us maximize our opportunities is often found... Bottom line: We could all use a little more silent bus rides in our life.

For Gary Adams, not only did he achieve this dream, he got to be mentored by none other than John Wooden. His book, Conversations with Coach Wooden: On Baseball, Heroes, and Life, is a great book talking about his relationship with Coach Wooden and their mutual love of the game of baseball. She specializes in taking her clients on customized journeys of purpose and destiny, enabling them to take their lives to the next level. According to Coach Adams, “life is a marvelous game.” When we are living our purpose, we can enjoy the game of life to its fullest. When we are not living our purpose, we feel friction and frustration similar to trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole. During this interview, Coach Adams explores in depth the 4 fundamental steps to discovering your purpose, how to recognize when you're off-purpose, and what to do about it. She also describes the distinction between a spirit of perfectionism and a spirit of excellence, the former of which will bring you frustration and a constant sense of inadequacy, while the latter will bring you a sense of freedom and peace, no matter what is happening that day. Are you flowing with your purpose or going against it? Find out by listening to this insightful interview with Coach Adams.
