It should stink. You know, my kids almost cried for me because they know how much, you know, I keep my streaks and you know, I like that. I like that. I'm invested into it. I like that it hurt, you know? But the key is, Hurt only to the point where I don't stay in this shame or guilt place, and that causes me to not wanna show up for myself again. You know, I will say there's an art to that in that I've had a lot of losses over the last several years of tracking DACs that has helped me to be okay with, okay, well tomorrow is another day and I can get right back on.What are you doing to create your dream life or your best self? Why do we see some thrive through challenges while others struggle? Welcome to Fett, a podcast where I talk about the main FS in my life that have helped me in creating my best self faith, family, forgiveness, food, fitness, and formula. Hi. My name is Amy Ledin, and most would say that I've had my fair share of struggles, whether it was placing my baby for adoption at 18, facing my marriage ending affair, or battling stage four cancer for almost seven years. It's safe to say that I've been through a lot. Join me as I take you through my story, my journeys, and share with you the tactical strategies every single week that will help you thrive and overcome anything you face. That's right. I'm gonna show you how to create a future self that you'll be. So buckle up, get ready for the ride as I take you through my story and bring other guests on that have helped me along the way.I cannot believe the day came, but I had to come on the podcast and unpack it here and just kind of go over my big, huge loss after 556 days. That's right, 556 days of a streak. and I broke it. This was, so I have two big, long going streaks right now. I mean, I have other ones that are, you know, probably close to like a hundred days, but nothing like my water streak and my.activity streak. So I have, you know, my activity one is that I have to do no less than 20 minutes of activity every day of my life. Like whether this is stretching or, you know, ideally movement. I'd say 95% of the times, 99% of the time, this is me walking. But, um, I wanted to put, you know, any type of activity because there's been times where I have had.You know, um, minor surgeries or things like that. And so stretching or things just to get that in and see the power of my activity. And then my other long going one, which is still going, is my one gallon of plain water, you know. Um, it's been going now for, you know, I 500 and, let's see, probably 65 days now, but getting up here to Canada, um, I did a podcast, just I think the most recent one where, you know, I was struggling. It's been a struggle. It was a challenge and. So I wanted to share this because there's many times, you know, when we break our promises to ourselves in that, honestly it's just a slip of, you know, we forget, it's not maybe a, a habit yet that we've invested in. And so it's not, we're not on autopilot. And then other times it may be out of our control, you know? But then there's these times where, , we, we know we should do it, but we don't. And so I always like to dive into that as to, you know, why we don't, you know, for me, um, if I'm reflecting, you know, I, uh, was, I, I could have gone, I hate the cold here, as you know, we're in Canada and we got up here and it was, uh, still winter and the cold just makes me miserable, but it's not like I haven't done it before. So, you know, I could have, you know, put on a bunch of layers and gone out, but, The reality was I was already in a head space where I was not feeling good about myself. Whether it was I was feeling sorry for myself or you know, whatever it may be, I was not feeling good. And when we do not feel good about ourselves, we just don't show up for ourselves.Because the truth is when I got into bed that night, you know, cuz someone would be like, how could you forget? Well, I had put it off all day because I hate the cold and, you know, um, wasn't feeling good. I wasn't really happy with our situation here and you know, just again, feeling sorry for myself, whatever.Um, but. I got in bed and so it's already late and I'm like, oh my gosh, I didn't walk. Now I could have, I'm totally capable of, you know, bundling up and going out. I really technically at that point, should have just even gotten on the floor and stretched. , but I didn't want to, I mean, that's the reality. I was like, I don't want to, I was fighting my best self and you know, my best self didn't win.You know, the next morning I was obviously very upset and you know, at first Eric's like, you know, I don't think it's good. Be this upset over it. And I'm like, I disagree because I feel like anything that you are striving or chasing, you know, you're striving for or chasing like, like this, it has to sting a little bit.If you don't get it, you know? It was a motto that Craig Valentine used, which was high intention, low attachment. I mean, that's your goal is you wanna have like all the intention to be winning and the low attachment in that, you know, hey, you don't want it to like make you stay down in the lull. Forever. And so that's kind of the key. But I do believe that it should burn. It should stink. You know, my kids almost cried for me because they know how much, you know, I, I keep my streaks and you know, I like that. I like that I'm invested into it. I like that it hurt, you know, but the key is, Hurt only to the point where I don't stay in this shame or guilt place, and that causes me to not wanna show up for myself again. You know, I will say there's an art to that in that I've had a lot of losses over the last several years of tracking DACs that has helped me to. Be okay with. Okay, well tomorrow is another day and I can get right back on. You know, sucky thing about having a long streak like this, I'll be honest, is I don't hit a new, a new place for another couple years and that sounds crazy. And hey, You don't need to be tracking these things. This is just, I, I'm, I'm, my brain works well on gamification and I do love the power of seeing this, and this has been something that has pulled me along to make sure I get activity in. The cool thing is I know that this is a lifestyle habit for me, so I got right back on and I'm tracking it again and really trying to even show my children the power of.You know what? Yeah, it sucked and I was, I was bummed about it and stuff, but I got right back on, started tracking again because I'm confident that I will, you know, beat it again. So if you are someone that, you know, maybe you've had that loss and maybe you stay down in the dumps longer, you know, this is your reminder that, you know, failing and, and losing and having these things can really be turned into learning opportunities. And I don't think it's a bad thing if you. Are hurt by the loss and you feel sad about it or you're upset. I just think it's important to find that fine line between staying in the dumps and shaming yourself and having this condemnation. Don't shame yourself in that way instead of like conviction in that.Yep. , I, you know what? I need to show up for myself and this is how I do it and I'm gonna get right back on. So bummed about it, but hey, you know what? I'm continuing with my water streak. I'm right back on the walking one and you know, I've got a couple others that are in the hundreds. So I hope you are, uh, tracking your wins. There's a big power in that. And you know, one of the apps I use, I mentioned a lot on here, is Streaks. It is a paid app. I think I paid like five bucks for it, but it will track up. 18 of your habits. It even will track the timing. You know, like if you go and track it right away, like how often do you perform this habit at this time, or, you know, it gives you your streaks, it gives you like, you know, just everything, all the data on it.It's pretty awesome if you really like to, uh, gamify your things and I just hope you're having a great week and things are much better in Canada. Have more content up soon.Okay. I'm on a mission, as you know, if you've been following along, I have a goal to be a top 100 podcast, and it's less about that top 100 and more about, I wanna make an impact. I want more people to hear effort and learn from all the mistakes that I've made along with me bringing on really special guests for you.So my ask here, I want you to screenshot this episode today and share it on your social media. Share it with a friend, you know, tag me in it, go give me a review. Of course, if you're really feeling it and rate me, you know, this is the only way things are gonna get seen here. And in a big world of tons and tons of podcasts, I'm hoping that you're gonna choose mine and help me on my mission. #5for50 #5for50FamilyEdition #AmyLedin #AmyLedin.com #ErikLedin #LeanBodiesConsulting #LBC #Kamele #KamelePerez #Streaks #CrunchyBagel #habit

While there is nothing wrong with delivering the same speech for years, Darren and Mark explain why being unforgettable sometimes means examining where our hearts are NOW and giving our audiences something new. Snippets: What served you then, may not serve you now What served your audience then, may not serve your audience now You are in a different place in your life than you were years ago You and your audience have evolved You have learned more life lessons What more can you offer to your audience Ask close friends and loved ones what changes they see in you

In today's recap episode, we look back on the amazing conversation we had with Craig Valentine, with Rory and AJ both revealing their top three takeaways. Craig is a master of the story and how to use stories to really engage an audience, and it was hard to narrow our list down, but we managed! Craig talked about why it is not enough to just 'get ready' and that, as a brand builder and storyteller, you need to 'stay ready' for whatever opportunity may come knocking. He also emphasized the need for conflict in any story you are trying to sell. We highlight the points Craig made about character dialogue and using repeatable statements before touching on the idea of our dreams not being for sale and why you should sell a result than a product. To hear all the details on all of these great takeaways, tune in today!
In 1999 our guest, Craig Valentine, became the World Champion of Public Speaking and subsequently learned a lesson that he has carried with him throughout his career: that he could no longer ‘get ready to speak' he had to ‘stay ready to speak'. Craig has built his career on his exceptional acumen as a public speaker, his presentation skills, and his prolific coaching. He runs a prodigious coaching certification program called World Class Speaking, in addition to the Speak and Prosper Academy, and is the author of The Nuts and Bolts of Public Speaking. In our conversation with Craig, we dive straight into his passion for public speaking and how he discovered that ‘staying in your lane' is not necessarily the best advice. Listening in you'll glean key insights into the art of storytelling and why it is integral to effective public speaking. Learn why conflict is the most important part of storytelling and how escalating conflict can elevate a good story into a great one. We also delve into the intricacies of dialogue, why it's important, and how it offers rich opportunities for humor and connection with your audience. Later, Craig breaks down how he combines storytelling and messaging to reach his audience, and why his approach to storytelling varies depending on the situation. Tune in today for an engrossing and highly informative episode as we see phenomenal storytelling in action!
Carl met Alan and Katie Donegan in Ecuador at one of JL Collins’s Chautauquas in 2016. They’ve been friends ever since. In this interview, we discuss: Alan’s childhood struggles How to build confidence Family trauma Rebel Business School Discovering FIRE Real estate Becoming digital nomads The Donegans’ perfect day Meet Alan and Katie Katie and Alan are an accomplished, fun-loving couple who have taken the world by storm with their radical approach to starting a business. Alan was someone who yearned to start his own business but was vehemently opposed to the idea of taking on debt to do it. Thus, The Rebel Business School was born. Through the courses taught at Rebel Business School, Alan began teaching people how to launch businesses without taking on any debt. To Alan, the phrase “you’ve got to spend money to make money” is sheer bunk. Both his own successful businesses and the many businesses started by students of The Rebel Business School are proof of it. Katie is a former consultant who left behind the corporate world after achieving Financial Independence. She and Alan now work on The Rebel Business School together. They also put out a podcast, write a blog, and run the Rebel Finance School, which helps teach people both the basics and the advanced aspects of attaining financial success. This couple is ambitious about teaching, helping others, and loving life. They are now full-time digital nomads – a feat they managed successfully even during COVID-19! Our Discussion We kicked things off with something that felt pretty basic – we asked Alan and Katie to introduce themselves. But Alan reminded us that this can actually be quite tricky when you’re “retired” early and can’t simply rattle off your name and a one-word description of what you do all day. We then took a dive into the deep end and talked about overcoming bullies in childhood. Although Katie’s wit and penchant for sports kept her from being bullied, Alan faced some difficult hurdles in his youth – but the wisdom he now takes away from those early challenges is nothing short of inspiring. Alan told us about how he has learned to build confidence over the years and how helpful it is to go into any situation thinking about how things could go right, instead of getting stuck in a negative feedback loop of fearing how things could go wrong. Alan now thinks to himself: “What if I went into this room full of people and found an amazing friend or an exciting new opportunity”? We also went in depth about public speaking. Carl, Doug, and Alan have all had very positive experiences with Toastmasters and view it as an incredibly powerful confidence-building tool. Alan also highly recommends Presentation Zen by Garr Reynolds and Craig Valentine’s 52 Speaking Tips for fine-tuning your presentation and PowerPoint skills. We then talked in depth about the Rebel Business School. Alan is passionate about debunking the myth that starting a business requires debt, and that passion shines through. We discussed some of the success stories from his business and how the school got started. Alan also told us about th

He's seen so many of his students in the school who want results but hesitate in making the critical moves that would get them there. Katie and Alan then told us how they discovered the FIRE movement. Like many people, their introduction came through blogs. But Alan was also inspired by Tony Robbins' book Notes From a Friend, which set him on a path towards better financial decision-making. After becoming enamored of the concept of financial independence, Katie and Alan began looking at others all around them and wishing they could help them make better financial choices. So they took action! They started the Rebel Finance School to help people get to full financial literacy and hopefully pursue a path towards financial independence themselves. We wrapped things up by going full circle - back to Alan's story of his childhood bullies. When asked what he'd say to that bully today, Alan had the best possible answer: he'd simply move on. He no longer has any need to impress anyone or live life on anyone's terms but his and Katie's. That's a pretty powerful way to live your life! Alan and Katie were excellent guests, and we highly recommend you check out their courses, their blog, and their podcast! You'll walk away with an armload of wisdom, and an earful of their delightful English accents! In the first 20 years of Bob’s engineering career, he worked as a general aerospace engineer on airframes, wind turbines, undercarriages, propellors and air-to-air weapons. During that early part of Bob’s Aerospace career, he realised that the standard of presentation in engineering was very poor. But he was not going to do anything about it as he detested speaking in public and would do almost anything to avoid it.Then in 1995 a happen chance visit to a Toastmasters International Club changed his life and started a 25-year journey that continues to this day. It started with him overcoming his fear of public speaking which was his only real target. After that though a whole world of possibilities opened up. He started to enter the twice-yearly competitions and by 2002 had won the UK & Ireland International Speech contest that took him to America to compete in the semi-finals of the World Public Speaking Championship; an event that was in equal measure exciting and a learning experience. It taught him the necessity of having processes in place to deal with writing high-quality speeches. Around Bob started his 20-year career in the space industry. He dealt mainly with the European Space Agency missions to Mercury (Launched October 2020) and to Mars (due to launch 2022). It was a fantastic and enjoyable experience working on spacecraft and led to him giving many presentations to expert and lay audiences to explain the complex concepts of the flight hardware. So, he continued to focus on improving his crafting techniques and won the UK & Ireland evaluation contest in 2005. This is a competition to provide structured, supportive and encouraging feedback to a test speaker. By this time, he had achieved the award of Distinguished Toastmaster, the highest educational award available in Toastmasters. Then he embarked on his toughest challenge – the humorous speech crown. Humour is one of the hardest skills to learn and Bob reckons it is harder than the contest that leads to the World Championship! In 2006 he was the runner up in the competition and another 3 years of work paid off when he won the Humorous speech championship in 2009. Humour is such an important skill for all speakers to be able to make listening easy and highlight important points that Bob thinks it should be mandatory training for all speakers. Bob’s success in the speech championships attracted private speaker coaching clients who wanted to improve their crafting and delivery of important presentations and speeches. For many years Bob ran the two careers in parallel. Eventually the work on the ExoMars rover finished and Bob decided to focus solely on his speaker coaching and event speaking career. He now specialises in coaching technical experts to communicate their valuable information effectively. He also speaks at conferences, largely to technical managers, about getting communication in their organisations right so that information flows up and down the organisation effectively.

Ryan Lee (my guest on this podcast) and I go way back. The man is probably responsible for initiating and teaching me just about everything I know in the realm of online marketing and success in the fitness industry. Over a decade ago, I began to delve into his teachings and websites, and it was through him that I learned how to create information products, e-books, virtual coaching and a host of other profit-generating and information-scaling tools I still utilize to this day. Ryan himself is an exercise physiologist and the founder of bars. He’s also the author of , , was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal, and called “the world’s #1 lifestyle entrepreneur” by Entrepreneur. Before there was Stand Up & Speak Up, there was a terrified speaker who had to overcome stage fright to make what I do now possible. In 2007, I met Darren LaCroix. In February of 2008, I traveled to Las Vegas for a week to attend some of Darren’s events. There, I also met Craig Valentine and Patricia Fripp. Today is show #299, and I am pausing to look back at how far I have come. That week, where I spent time with Darren, Craig, and Patricia caused an epiphany on the flight back. I will share that on the show. I have been honored to interview all three of them and will play cuts from those interviews. Learn some of the secrets of how I overcame my fears. If you don’t already believe this, I may change your mind - “If Walt can do it, I can, too.”
Craig Valentine is the 1999 World Champion of Public Speaking and has since carved a successful career as a public speaker, keynote speaker and speech coach. Listen to him talking about presentation skills, covering the Foundational Phrase with a discussion after. ____________________________________________ This is part 2 from Programme 23 of 2018/19 season - first broadcast on April 13th presented by Paul O’Mahony & Moira O'Brien. We'll interview real estate professionals, local business owners, and special guests from right here in the Houston community. This is where you get the inside scoop about what's new in real estate, new community openings and business openings and much more. The Houston Home Talk Show starts right now.[00:32] JAMES: All right guys welcome. What's up? This is James J. Welcome to Houston Home Talk. I am excited today to have my man Mike Wall from Dayton, Ohio. What's up Mike? How are you today?[00:43] MIKE: Yes sir. Baby, I'm so happy to be here, man. I'm so happy to help. We'll be able to drop some value on your audience today, brother.[00:50] JAMES: Yeah. Listen, I have been watching you now for several months as you have been doing a lot of interviews with a lot of the new people that have been moving over to EXP Realty. I want to say thank you because a lot of the content that you've been providing, I know I've used, I forwarded it to people and I know that the value that you're providing is helpful to a lot of people. You and I met in New Orleans last month. I've been watching you for several months. As soon as we met, there was several people that came up to you and said, hey, thanks Mike. I know you're reaching people. [01:21] MIKE: Yeah.[01:22] JAMES: You're helping people because a lot of people can't do what you're doing in the way that you do it so thank you for that. I wanted to ask you so I want to just start, so you've been doing a lot of these interviews, a lot of Facebook Live interviews. I want to get people introduced you. I want to ask you real quick, what's been the response from other people to the interviews that you've been doing with the new people that have joining EXP?[01:42] MIKE: Yeah. No, it's a great question man. It's really been overwhelming more than I even thought and really the whole reason if I back up and just telling you the reason why I started doing the podcast… [01:52] JAMES: Right.[01:53] MIKE:…is because I knew that we were building something special. I also knew that changes is big. Change is big for everybody involved and especially the for those people who are team leaders in running a business. I wanted to give those people a platform to be able to share their unique story with the world and in hopes that somebody out there might identify with them and be able to make an intelligent decision about where their business went and then also providing a detailed roadmap for change if they decided to move their business over to EXP. Then also kind of lastly is just to provide insight on people curious about learning more about EXP.[02:34] JAMES: Right? Yeah. Let's get to know a little bit about you because I know you have been in the business. You've been licensed for about 16 years or so. You started full time…was it 2014 when you were officially started full time? [02:45] MIKE: I did it. I got a unique story. I've had my license since 2002. I actually got into the business just as a buyer specialist for one of the top agents here in our marketplace. A guy named Phil Herman who worked for Remax is a big deal man. The guy was selling like 300 properties back like when nobody knew about teams. When I got into the business I just thought, man, I don't want to try to learn all this on my own. What I'll do is I'll take a little bit less of a commission split to go under somebody who actually has all the knowledge for what I want to do, right? I worked with Phil 2002 to 2009 and we all know what happened in 2008-2009. The market just completely crashed.I actually got out of real estate. I kept my license but I went to work back in corporate America and I did that for five years. I was working for a company that was based out of Blue Ash, which is a suburb of Cincinnati and I was selling copiers, man. It is a grind doing that. I did that for five years. I knew I wouldn't do that long term and I knew I would get into real estate. [03:43] JAMES: Right. [03:44] MIKE: In 2013 in about October, I started calling the expires in 2013. In 2014 May I had 44 listings and I went to my wife and I said, honey, it's costing me more to be at my corporate job than it is to be here in real estate. She said, you know what? She said, do your thing man. That first year went out and sold 57 houses. Second year in the business, sold 104 houses, third year sold 187 houses and then fourth year I sold 309 houses. I just haven't looked back, man. There's so much obviously that goes in between there because now you know, I'm operating as a team. I've got some great team members. I got a great business partner now. We've opened up a whole world with investing and so forth.[04:30] JAMES: Now let me touch on this because it seems pretty simple. One of the things that I love about you is the consistency. I know you've been doing a lot of live coaching calls. Obviously you've been doing this for several years, calling the expires. [04:41] MIKE: Yup.[04:43] JAMES: One of the things that I tell a lot of new agents is what you think, because everybody just assumes everybody's calling the expires. I've heard you mentioned this in the video, a lot of people will stop calling after the fourth time or even a third time in a lot of cases. Obviously you were consistent. What made you focus on the expires? Because as a new agent, that's one of the things that I always tell people to do. Focus on expires. You can get that information and just keep consistent, stay consistent with it. What made you start? What was the thing that kind of got you to focus on the expires when you first started?[05:17] MIKE: Yeah. No man. That's a legitimate question because if you think about it, I mean everybody's good at something, right? Everybody can always make up the excuse that I'm not good at something and typically it's because they either don't have the experience or they're just not willing to try. For me, when I moved here, I went to high school and was raised mostly in to Dallas, Fort Worth area. I moved to Ohio and went to college at Ohio State. Go Bucks. I met my wife there and my wife was from this small town, which is a Northern Cincinnati, Southern Dayton suburb called Springboro. I didn't have a personal network. I didn't have a lot of people that I could tap into. I just thought, well, what is the next best thing? I knew I could grind it out on the phones because I had done in B to B sales selling copiers, right?[06:03] JAMES: Right. [06:05] MIKE: There's no science behind it, man. I just did it. You talked about consistency and that's, that's really what it was. It's just doing it. It's repetitions in the gym, right? It's like every day you show up. You put in your reps. You work hard, and then the magic starts to happen, man.[06:20] JAMES: Right. Yeah. That consistency thing is very difficult, especially for us because there's no one to tell us to do anything.[06:27] MIKE: Right.[06:29] JAMES: Everyone wants to get in the business, but then lacking the discipline to do what you did for three years and still continue to do to this day with the Expires. It's something tells you is you have a schedule and you got to work. It's hard to do. It is hard because stuff comes up. It's hard to stay consistent. If you really want to make it and you're a prime example, everybody that's calling these Expires, they're not doing it consistently. They just don't. I know it. In Houston, it's the same thing. We've got 30,000 agents here. We've got a lot of expires but of that 30,000 there's only a handful of people that are actually consistent with it. As a matter of fact you knew that and you stuck with it and clearly it works.[07:09] MIKE: I want your audience to understand something too James is that the great thing about calling the Expires is not everyone's is going to say yes, right? We are fortunate enough to work in an industry where the margins, if you do get a yes, are very large, and I always tell my team this, right? We live in a market in southwest Ohio here where the average price point is not really high, right? Our team average sale price is $178,000. Our market. Average sale price is $130,000 but you can still make a six figure income here if you just get one yes, every week because our agents average commission check is 25.50 and if you take 25.50 and divide that out over 50 weeks, you've got a nice income, right?[07:48] JAMES: Absolutely, yeah.[07:50] MIKE: Really we just focus…we have our team focus on that one yes per week, right? We understand when we pick up the phone that the odds are against us, right? We understand that most people are not going to answer the phone and if they answer, most people are not going to set an appointment. We understand also that if we do get somebody to answer it, if we do get somebody to say yes, then we got a shot at a six figure income.[08:10] JAMES: Absolutely. Yeah, and you know there's a couple of books I've got but the go for no is one. Darren Hardy, I love Darren Hardy. December is going to be here tomorrow and I bring this up because his book talks about the format. There's this habit, habit, habit, habit and what he used to do when he was in real estate back in the day, he would just look for no's. The more no's you get, you're just closer to that yes. At some point somebody is going to say yes and I'm a huge Darren…the compound effect. That's what that's saying in the book, compound effect. I love that book. Usually we'll bring it up every single year around this time of year and I go through it and I'll operates during the year because it's a great book about the discipline of habits. In this business. it is key to everything is self-discipline to be able to, to continue to do that. Props to you on that. Now I wanted to ask you, so I heard in the interview that you had mentioned that you had back when you started full time back '04, 2014-2015. I guess a couple of years into it. You switch from the wall group over to love Ohio living, LOL team.[09:05] MIKE: I did. I did.[09:07] JAMES: Explain why did you did that? I think I know the answer. I wanted my audience to understand why did you do that? Why did you think that was important to get your name off the brand and brand it to level high live in which you did.[09:18] MIKE: Yeah. No, that's a great question. There's arguments for both sides. For me personally, I thought it was more sustainable to build a business that didn't have my name on it. I didn't think people would sustainably work to build my business. I thought that together, if we formed something that we could all believe in and all row the same direction, that didn't have my name on it. In another words, it's like a football team, right? If you think of the Dallas cowboys, right? Who did beat the Saints last night which…[09:50] JAMES: Yes, they did. Yeah.[09:51] MIKE: if you think of the Dallas Cowboys, they're not called the Jerry Jones, right? They're called the Dallas Cowboys. Jerry Jones owns the cowboys, but everybody has their respective position for the Dallas cowboys. When they come together, they make a team, right? I wanted to do is I wanted to take the level how living team and I wanted to galvanize everybody around that. What that stood for was elite level agents being able to plug their businesses in to our tool systems and resources to go out and sell as many houses as they want. Not, they plugged into Mike Wall and just took every, all my leftovers, right? Because there is a team model that works that way and I just don't believe it's sustainable. The statistics show, I mean, the shelf life on those type of a team, the shelf life of the agent is much lower, right? Because what happens is they come in, in most cases and they build them up and then those agents, they want to go do the same thing whereas now we have an agent on our team. It's like Natalie Rose, right? Is an agent on our team? It's Natalie Rose with the level higher living team at a power broker by EXP Realty, right? Her name goes on the sign. We just have our LOL logo. Frankly, it's not that I would ever sell my business, but if you think of it like this, James who's going to buy Mike Wall real estate without Mike Wall.[11:09] JAMES: Yeah. [11:10] MIKE: You know what I mean? [11:11] JAMES: Now you're, you're right on. That's a key when we talk about marketing branding because I f struggled with that as well earlier and having my name. I agree with you completely. I think the buy in from your team is much more when you have LOL Level Higher Living. I love that you did that. That's a key. That's a nugget for people to really look at that because like you say there's arguments both ways. I'm actually on board with you as far as the branding and not having your name attached to it for the long term, long term that's a great idea. Good information there. Let me ask you, so from all the interviews that you've been doing with a lot of the EXP Agents that have been mourning, it's been absolutely crazy the growth that we've had. You joined back, was it February of this year is when you guys moved over? [11:55] MIKE: Yes sir, it'd be a year. [11:58] JAMES: Montel Williams, you moved over. What's been the best or the most surprising thing, specifically from the people that you have interviewed? Because I don't know if you've got to off the top of your head how many people you've interviewed since you started the show.[12:10] MIKE: Probably around 20, 25 at this point.[12:13] JAMES: Okay. Okay. What's been maybe one of the biggest surprises or maybe common similarities? Because everybody's story's a little different. I probably have watched virtually every video interview that you've done. Everybody's story just a little bit different. What have you found that maybe something that's maybe been similar from a lot of the people that you've spoken to? [12:30] MIKE: Yeah. I have them. Something instantly pops to mind and because it really not only has it surprised me that this is what I've learned from them. It is something that we never expected when we came over. I'm learning now when I talked to people in those interviews is that it's the same thing for them, right? What I'm learning is that the community. It's the community that we've created. It's the people that now we're able to tap into, right? Because like Jay Kinder and Mike Reese, the NEA group, right? They used to run this mastermind that was like a $25,000 buy in, right? Now they're doing that mastermind for free. [13:09] JAMES: Yeah. [13:10] MIKE: Right? We're talking about Kinder was the number one, number two guy for COA banker in the world at one time, right? He's one of the smartest guys in real estate. When you're able to plug in to those guys like I could shoot him a text right now and get a response from him, right? The same thing with Kyle Whistle, the same thing with Dan Beer. I mean we're talking about some of the biggest real estate teams and smartest real estate minds in the business. For me that was the biggest surprise man, is the fact that now we've created this fantastic community of learning and sharing and just growth and excitement, man. That's an easy answer for me. [13:50] JAMES: Yeah, you and I, we've got a lot of similar circles as far as NEA. I've been with NEA probably since 2011. Actually, back then it was just Kinder-Reese. I've been following Jay for years. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Yes, I also coached with them him well. You're right. When now you've gotten to exponential growth summit back in the day. [14:06] MIKE: I never did go to that believe it or not. Yeah, I never went.[14:12] JAMES: Okay.[14:13] MIKE: I coached with NEA. I didn't exponential growth. [14:17] JAMES: Right. The funny thing now is that with EXP, with all these big name ages moving over, and you're right, the community and the collaboration. I know we keep using these words over. It's true. When you're in it and you and I were here where we both are at EXPN. We've been able to see it. The fact that you're right that I could call Jay right now. I've paid thousands and thousands of dollars to Jay to coach me. Now that same information, I could still get it and get access to him with literally just picking up the phone right now. That's been one of the biggest, pleasant things that I've seen as well. For a lot of people that are not, or maybe looking at the opportunity right now other than the collaboration, what else is maybe been one of the things that's been a plus for you? [15:03] MIKE: What I want to add to that real quick is that I don't want people to take that for granted because a lot of people I think represent EXP the wrong way. You're trying to get people, you're calling people that you don't know and you're trying to get them to move for revenue share or stock. That's not enough to get people to move. It's like you need to figure out what if we understand at the end of the day, right? That map is more valuable than the treasure. Then you understand that that knowledge that you can get through collaboration, that's where the treasure is, right? That's the map to the treasure. To be able to collaborate with those guys in a mastermind group. These guys are doing stuff at a level that we just haven't thought of or haven't gotten to in our businesses yet. For that person out there who's doing $10 million or $20 million a year that wants to get to 20 million or 40 million or a 100 million, right. The difference between them, where they're at right now and where they want to be is that roadmap, right? When you join EXP, you're able to tap into that right away, right, through the collaboration and relationships that you'll build here. I wanted to make sure that your audience was crystal clear on that because although revenue share is fantastic and the opportunity to be an owner through stock is fantastic. It's not the only reason you should join EXP, right?[16:28] JAMES: Yeah. No question about it. Yeah. I think the excitement around it is just because it hasn't been done this way before. [16:33] MIKE: Yeah. [16:37] JAMES: You start looking at the opportunity down the road. I could not agree with you more, Mike. That component of EXP has gotten a lot of publicity. I think as far as representing EXP, a lot of people would probably get a little turned off because everybody's talking about the revenue shift. You are right. That's not really for me the number one reason. It is the fact that you get to collaborate. You and I would not be talking right now. We aren't talking right now if it wasn’t for EXP. I wouldn't be able to call collar or anybody for that matter. It's genuine. When we went to the EXP con last month it's genuine. People are just really willing to help you with whatever because it does benefit us all when we all succeed. Where it used to be you have freinemies and you interviewed with Tammy yesterday?[17:25] MIKE: Tammy was day before. You're talking about Mary Simons Malone. I love them so much. Yes, she was frienemies with Kyle Whistle, right? They worked at competing brokerages in San Diego. She talked about that too with the collaboration now with Dan and Kyle who were formerly her biggest competition, right?[17:44] JAMES: Yeah, Yeah. Huge, huge, huge, huge. That's awesome. Couple more questions for you Mike, before I let you get on out of here. Again, you said the response from people because I saw people coming up to you and we're at the EXP last month which is pretty cool. As we were in the middle of talking,[17:59] MIKE: Let me one more thing James before because I know you asked me and I'll try not to be too long winded here. I want to make sure that people understand the value of what the model at EXP has to offer no matter where you're at in your business because you asked also what was another thing that I had learned or what was another reason that we moved and what we learned through our move, and I'm hearing back from obviously a lot of these team leaders in our interviews is the fact that I had a decision to make personally when I moved. We were opening up our own market center. We had approval through KWRI. We were opening. In fact, that market center has now opened without me. Right? [18:34] JAMES: Okay. [18:35] MIKE: Some other person or group came in and took my place. I was supposed to be an owner at that market center and EXP was put into my lap, right? We had a decision to make right away and that decision was, do I move forward with my plans with Keller Williams to open this market center, right? Or do I move my team to EXP? I'll tell you what it came down to. It came down to what was better for my team, right? Ultimately the reason why EXP want one out is because the move to Keller Williams would have been a lateral move. Actually it would have been a worst move for them because the CAP was going up at the new office. It would have only been a win for me, right? I could have been an owner at that office and that would have been great, right? Our Ego loves that, right? I'm an owner. Ultimately if I knew I wanted it to be successful through my team. That's what I want and ultimately to be able to provide them the best platform for success, right? I knew that I had to make the decision to move to EXP because now I can offer them things that I never could before. That is through revenue share and that is through who stocks, right? Now, they can become owners. They have a vested interest after three years. They have two exceptional wealth building tools that they never had access to before.[19:46] JAMES: Absolutely, yeah. That same message as I go around talking with agents in my market, same message. My team is definitely not structured because your team structure right now is, consists of what? How is your team set up right now?[19:57] MIKE: We serve two markets. We serve Dayton-Ohio market and also the Cincinnati-Ohio market. [20:02] JAMES: Okay. [20:03] MIKE: We have 25 agents. We also have a listing manager and a contract manager and then an office manager as well. [20:10] JAMES: Right. [20:11] MIKE: I have Director of operations/ co-owner and a guy named Jump Welski.[20:16] JAMES: Yeah. You've got a pretty big a machine going up there and a lot of people being affected by your decision, all tweets and make that move over to the EXP, which is not something to be taken lightly by any means. I've spoken to a lot of other agents. I don't know. I've watched a lot of your interviews with people. It's a tough decision because it's not just you that you're affecting here. It's a ton of people that are affected by your decision, good or bad one way or the other. I don't think there's really any downside to EXP. I'm going to be a little biased, but the other revenue models or other revenue streams that we have available is great. The fact that we can collaborate with people all over the country at this point and soon it'd be international, 2019-2020 which is a pretty exciting where the company's. I compare what we're doing now with EXP and how Glenn has set this up and the fact that you are not going to have a conversation. You and I could talk to each day. Three quick questions I want to ask you. First question is what are you reading right now? I know you're always seeking knowledge. I know. Are you reading anything right now that…[21:20] MIKE: Let me make it up for you man. I'll tell you right now. I usually have a couple of different books going on. I do love to read and I do love to listen to podcasts. I'm listening to… this is not a business book but its called sleep smart. I don't do fitness coaching, but I have a fitness coach too. He sends me books. I'm also listening to the Perfect Day Formula and that's by Craig Valentine. I'm listening to it another book called The Swerve. That's a good book. It's funny man, because if you do a lot of reading or if you listen to podcasts, you always get ideas about books from other people, right? It seems like one book leads to another write. One book mentions another and then you pop that in audible and you read that. I think one really good nugget and you and your audience should write this down if you haven't heard it already is listen to that recent, the most recent Maxout podcast with Ed Mylett, where he talks to you. UOP baseball team. That is so good, man. It is so powerful. I've shared that with my entire team. I listened to it probably every other morning because it just so resonates with me, especially as you transitioned into 2019. If you need something to get you up and light a fire under your butt and it is great, great material, man. [22:26] JAMES: Yeah, I have my last. He's awesome. He is awesome. That's the beauty of a podcast is or an audio book for that matter just to be able to listen to it at any point of your day, at any time. It really doesn't matter where you're at nowadays. You can just pop that in and listen to us. I have not heard that one. I will make sure that I listened to it. I'm actually post the links so people can get just click where and go right into it. [22:46] MIKE: Awesome. [22:47] JAMES: I'm an avid, avid reader as well. There's always something that I pick up. The knowledge that it's that compound effect. One compounds on top of you, the next thing. Another last, last two questions here. What's your favorite quote? Favorite quote.[23:02] MIKE: Man, that's a good one. I think it's probably changed throughout time. I think my favorite quote is probably really cliché at this point, but it just so resonates with me is the old Zig Ziglar quote is that "you'll get what you want. If you can help enough other people get what they want." That has not always been true for me. I've grown in my business, I've learned that my success will ultimately be a product of the success that I help others have.[23:28] JAMES: Yeah, no, that's awesome. Zig Ziglar Fan, goodness gracious as well. I one that was one of my favorite of course. The other one is then you're going to be a meaningful specific or a wandering generality. It's huge and especially for realtors because most realtors are not meaningful specifics.[23:45] MIKE: Right. Right. We know that.[23:46] JAMES: Great, great quote there. The last thing I want to ask you, so what's something that you want to do in 2019 that you've never done before? Whether it be business related obviously EXP is an explosion in growth mode right now. What's something that maybe you've got want to do a 2019 that you've never done before?[24:04] MIKE: That question comes at a really opportune time for me because we're actually in the middle of opening up our own mortgage company, the P and L model. I'm actually really excited to play around with that a little bit. I think there's a huge opportunity, not only to add more money to the bottom line but to also provide a level of service that most of the real estate agents can't provide because this is going to be set ups just so especially at first just so this person is servicing our team.[24:29] JAMES: That's great. I've had a sin as a, as a loan officer. There's no better mortgage advisor like yourself because you are on that side and you speak to what your clients are really wanting and really be able to direct if it's going to be your mortgage company or whoever you're working or partnering with on the mortgage side to really provide a really, really good value for people because I know you've experienced it. I've experienced it with a mortgage companies that it amazes me that some of these mortgage companies exist or lenders should I say. I've had people just completely disappear during the process. This is amazing to me. It's amazing. That's a great opportunity and I think with your background there's no way that you would not be successful with that or anything else that you do. [25:19] MIKE: Thank you sir.[25:20] JAMES: That'd be great. Again, I am a huge fan. I admire everything you've been doing. You're one of those people when you meet him, you just like of like literally I met you. We shook hands on. My God, I just liked this guy. [25:29] MIKE: Likewise my man, likewise.[25:34] JAMES: I've got to get up to and actually one more thing we got to talk about real quick, the most important thing will Ohio State be in the playoffs or not.[25:42] MIKE: Man, at this point, does it even matter? It's whoever's going to play Bama and lose, right?[25:45] JAMES: Right. Right. That’s true. [25:50] MIKE: I love my Buck guys I'm also a realist man. [25:52] JAMES: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, it's got to be quiet if you you say well. Anyway, when I appreciate your time, Mike. Thank you so much man. Thank you. Thank you. Keep doing what you're doing. I will continue to promote you as much as I can. If there's anything I can help you with, let me know and appreciate your time, man. You have a great one and we'll catch up. [26:07] MIKE: Likewise and if anybody's interested in that free coaching that you mentioned they could go to liverealestatecoaching.com and sign up there. I'd be happy to take on anybody for 30 to 40 minutes and just really dive deep into any area of your business you're looking to improve. [26:24] JAMES: I will post the link on the podcast. Actually let me put it on here so people can get that link and access what you're offering there. Yeah, can't go wrong. Free strategy call with Mike, reach out to them. He's an awesome agent, great example a lot of consistency and professionalism. I really appreciate what you do on Mike, We'll catch up soon brother. You take care.[26:43] MIKE: All right man. Thanks so much, James. I appreciate it. [26:46] JAMES: Okay. All right, bye-bye.[26:47] MIKE: Good luck.If you like this episode of the Houston Home Talk podcast, please don't forget to like, share, and comment! We appreciate your support and feedback! Now here's Mark Miletello, a top one percent producer, manager, and your host of Where the Insurance Pros Meet. Mark Miletello: Welcome back to the show. Today is an exciting day, I promised myself and the listeners that when I started this show, in my opinion the best, the greatest platform for really investment reps or insurance agents of Where the Insurance Pros Meet anyone that's in the financial services industry that I would search out and even have brand new agents, veteran agents, top speakers, top thinkers and minds in the industry, so today we have a very, very special guest. We have someone and let me give you a little background before I give you all the goods. As you may or may not know I'm speaking in Lamp in 2018 for Gamma as a multiple line speaker and I fly in to Chicago and right before I'm going into my rehearsal where they do provide a professional speech coach I'm fortunate enough to sit next to the next speaker that arrived a little bit early and just so happens she is a professional speech coach. To me that was very lucky to build a quick friendship the few minutes we had together I knew this individual was special, I knew that she was on it and I invited her to critique and to come in and watch me, which they didn't really allow but I forced it. I want to welcome a very special guest to the show that in a few short minutes I just really felt could really help our industry in a way, welcome Deirdre Van Nest to the show. Deirdre Van Nest: Aw thank you, Mark. Mark Miletello: Deirdre you're the creator of Crazy Good Talks the Blueprint, a system that teaches financial and insurance professionals how to become crazy good speakers so that they can bring in business and build their brands using speaking. I mean I didn't really know what all that meant until I met you and within a few short minutes, you're molding me into something that's doing a lot better job at what I'm attempting to do. Welcome to the show, I'm excited to have you and what you do for our listeners here. Deirdre Van Nest: I'm excited to be here and it's been a pleasure to help you. You are a quick student. Mark Miletello: What does that mean? Are there some that are not? Deirdre Van Nest: Some are not, yeah. Yes, you are. Mark Miletello: Well thank you and like I said I just realized you're very special. Can you tell me a little bit about ... tell the listener a little bit about your background and maybe they'll get a sense for maybe what I've found in you? Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah you know what I first loved to do is talk for a moment about why I care about helping the industry, particularly when it comes to speaking. I firmly believe that every person, and then this is regardless of what you do for a living, but every person unless we develop a skill set of becoming a compelling speaker, the type of speaker Mark who can get other people to sit up and listen and act we will never truly reach our full potential. I'll never forget, I used to be in a networking group where ... you know those networking groups where you have to a 60 or 30 second commercial every week? Mark Miletello: Yep. Deirdre Van Nest: Ever been a part? Okay. I was in this networking group and every week I was with the same people and people would get up and they'd speak for 60 seconds and there were certain people where as soon as that person stood up everybody tuned out and it really hurt my heart, it really bothered me, because as I got to know these people I thought, well you know that person's really good at what they do and that person really cares about the people in room, but they're not conveying who they are and what they do in a way that gets other people to sit up and listen and want to take action. It didn't matter if they were an A-plus attorney or an A-plus financial adviser or A plus this or that if they're a B minus or C plus speakers it was hurting their career. Does that make sense? Mark Miletello: No absolutely and I think I'm learning more about you every time we meet and talk, but I guess what you do helps ... I mean you even said attorneys, I guess attorneys do a lot of public speaking in the courtroom and things like that. How do you help ... I mean what industries do you find yourself helping most and how did you end up really relating and now that you're a speaker at Lamp of course in front of every general manager, general agent across all boards of financial services and insurance. I mean how did you really connect with our industry? Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah that's a great question so there's a couple of touch points. When I first hung my shingle out in 2008 I just started speaking everywhere I could and the professionals that raised their hands the most saying, "Hey, we're interested in you. We want what you're doing, we want you're helping. We're financial and insurance professionals." In one sense I fell into these industries, these professions, but it's interesting Mark as I've dug deeper I've really developed a love for this industry, for these professions, and for the people in it. As I sat back, and I started thinking okay I know I feel like I've sort of fell into this, but why do I stay here and why do I love it, and why do I feel a passion around it and why is that pretty much the sole focus of anything I do from an outbound perspective? It circled back to this, and you know this you heard my story about when I was 10 years old my mom was killed in a car accident and Mark I literally was kissing her goodbye one moment for what I thought was the night and within four minutes she was gone. Mark Miletello: Yeah. Deirdre Van Nest: My dad was in the car too, we were really blessed that he didn't die, it was touch and go with him and he was out of work for several months and it took him about a year to recover from all his injuries. What that did for me was I lost my innocence in the sense that I realized from that experience and I realized early in that life can change in a snap. As I got older I became a very strong advocate for proper financial planning. Mark Miletello: Right. Deirdre Van Nest: I was the person at 30 who got pregnant with my first child and instead of running off to the fun little store to pick out outfits and furniture I'm dragging my husband to our adviser and making sure we have enough life insurance, I'm dragging him to our attorney making sure all the guardianship and beneficiary stuff is taken care of. Most people don't think like that and I didn't realize that until I started talking to my friends about it. They're like, "That wouldn't have crossed my mind." Mark Miletello: Yeah. Well, thank you for- Deirdre Van Nest: And I was like, "It doesn't?" Mark Miletello: Thank you for sharing your personal story with the listeners and I know that's tough, but I see now that you have a passion for what our products do and with your expertise- Deirdre Van Nest: Yes, I do. Mark Miletello: With you being the guru, you are the foremost thinker of how to speak and a teacher in that realm I mean I do see that passion come out and so I'm excited that you're connected. I'm sorry that that happened of course, but I'm excited that you're connected with our industry and it kind of leads me to another question that kind of left me thinking after meeting you is if I'm not giving a speech, a public speech on stage, would I really need someone like Deirdre Van Nest to coach me and help me and I think the answer yes and I think you've kind of ... I was able to listen, I wanted to sit through your whole rehearsal and I wasn't able to do that because of my flight, but I did catch one little, and I'm going to try to squeeze that out of you for our listeners, one little tip that you were giving maybe a couple tips, but I do think that there's some validity to increasing your ability speak, finding your voice can help you even if you're not giving a stage public speaking event. Correct? Deirdre Van Nest: Absolutely. This is where I feel like I'm hoping the profession will veer towards and start changing is that you speak at seminars, right? That's kind of what everyone thinks right now in the industry is, "Oh speaking is seminars," and I would like to broaden the perspective and offer that speaking is anytime you're in public. That means outside of your own home opening your mouth and talking to let's say two, three, or more people. Mark Miletello: Right. Deirdre Van Nest: Because every time you speak you have the opportunity to attract people to you, to build up your brand, to bring in business or the opposite, to push people away or just have them be neutral to you. We are in what I believe the communication age, there are so many people vying to be heard and so to have a skill set where you can cut through that and you can be compelling and inspire I don't think that skill to have, I believe it's a critical practice development tool. Mark Miletello: Well that's exactly where I was going with it, is that's what I left feeling is that ... and you just hit the nail on the head as you would and should. Every time you're speaking to two or more or even to one person, but two or more people especially that's a speaking engagement that you should be on your game. I'm excited to kind of dive more into this. As you may or may not know Deidre this show I kind of connect it to the professional athlete and if you recall in the rehearsal one fellow said, "People in our industry earn professional athlete type incomes." Deirdre Van Nest: Yes. Mark Miletello: But my concern in a leadership role is that we don't practice like professional athletes, you know. We go out and do our hobbies, we golf and fish and whatever, play sports and we have our hobbies but we don't look at our own profession. That's a lot of the drive behind Where the Insurance Pros Meet is to have something where you can ride down the road and you can listen to, but it reminds you from the greats as well as you telling us is how you become better is practice, it's learning, it's continually developing and so to me what was kind of neat about meeting you is it reminded me I've never really put any work ... I've never been involved in Dale Carnegie courses or another speaking so it's kind of neat to connect our listeners to someone like you that I think could really help them because you had a lot of good tips before I left early to catch my flight, you had a lot of good tips and one of them that I thought was very interesting is how you can plug yourself into speaking gigs or arrangements or connections or networks. Would it be too much to ask you how or to tell us how to do that if maybe we don't have anything on the agenda for a speaking? Deirdre Van Nest: No, I think that's great. I think what you're alluding to is I made this comment that speaking is not just for seminars. Right? The broad vision is that anytime you're speaking, like we just said, to two, three, or more people you're speaking, you're public speaking. Then the other strategy I offered up as if you're having seminars and they're successful great, keep doing that, but I would also invite you to recognize that there are places in your community where you could get booked at other people’s events in front other people's audiences, and what's beautiful about that Mark is that most people in this profession complain about seminars and rightly so because they're expensive to put on in terms of all the mailing and the postage that goes into it. Then there's the meal, maybe the chicken lit dinner, the steak dinner, whatever it is, and then there's the whole stress about getting people there. It's not an easy thing to pull off and what if you could eliminate that by speaking to a ready-made audience? Mark Miletello: Coattails. Deirdre Van Nest: That's something that professional speakers like me, right professional speakers like me we know, we do this all day long, but that's something the more I bring this up to different financial advisers and insurance agents they're like, "I never really thought I could play in that arena," and you can. Mark Miletello: Okay. Deirdre Van Nest: I just want to even put that idea out there is that you can play in that arena. Mark Miletello: Okay give us one idea. Deirdre Van Nest: Let me give you an example. Mark Miletello: Thank you. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah so one client, and I think I might have mentioned this to you, I was thinking of client of mine who is an insurance agent, he and his family own their own independent company and he has the specialization of working with daycare providers. We're like okay, well let's just build a presentation for that group and then let's pitch it and market it to them. We have this presentation, now quite frankly that presentation isn't largely different than it would be for any other business owner, but you put the word daycare provider in there when he tells stories he talks about his other clients that are daycare providers. Right? So that you're customizing the words and the language and then you start to think about where do the daycare providers hang out? Let's check out their association. Right? Then you would go, and you would apply to speak at one of their association events. If there are local chapters that they belong to you would talk about having them bring you in. I know that he got brought into a daycare center not necessarily to talk to the owners because there's only one owner, but the different staff that works there. Right? Mark Miletello: Yeah. Deirdre Van Nest: If you pick a couple of niche markets, maybe you work with chiropractors, maybe you like vets, maybe you like dentists. Mark Miletello: Whatever your niche is. I get it. Deirdre Van Nest: Exactly. Whatever your niche is. Mark Miletello: I tell you coming home and on the flight, that's probably what stuck with me the most of what a great concept that was and I had to have it on our show because in a leadership role I've gone with my agents and we've spoken at realtor meetings and we do certain break out speeches that are kind of impromptu but I kind of thought what about looking at what our niche is. Let's just say our niche is farmers or chiropractors. Let's just say it's farmers, then I never thought of taking and going to their organization ... I've thought about going to their organization and trying to connect and relate and be in the backroom and shake hands but I never thought about trying to get on their agenda because I know when you put on a meeting number one you have people coming in that throw a little money at you to take up 10 to 15 minutes of a sponsored lunch, things like that, and also sometimes you just want good information for the speech and I just never thought of that and I think that listeners hopefully could have a light bulb go off like I did and say there's so many niches that you could go after based on whatever company or organization you represent and you don't have to ... because I've thought about doing seminars and at one time did them, but thought about them over the last few years but when I start putting together the time, the effort, the pieces, the invitations, the mail outs, whatever all those things I find a lot of times that was a fleeting thought that fades away very quickly. Deirdre Van Nest: Yes, I understand that. Mark Miletello: When someone else is doing all that and you're plugging yourself into that I thought that was just a brilliant concept, Deirdre. Deirdre Van Nest: Good, good. Go after it. Here's the thing if you decide to go after it, with the putting together of your own seminar the easy thing is deciding you're going to do it and then all the work comes into doing it. Mark Miletello: Yeah. Deirdre Van Nest: With going after other ones your job is going to be reaching out to enough people. Right? And staying after them and following up with that. That's where the work will be is in staying persistent. Mark Miletello: Well you know- Deirdre Van Nest: And following up with them. Mark Miletello: We took off a fast start, we gave the listeners I think what I really, I walked away after just a few minutes of knowing you with that valuable thought. We kind of jumped right forward without really asking you, how did you get involved in coaching with Crazy Good Talks which is a name I love, crazygoodtalks.com. Deirdre Van Nest: Thank you, I love it too. Mark Miletello: I've been to your website, it's awesome. I kind of skipped over you right at the first so I apologize, I'm gonna back up which I don't normally do. Deirdre Van Nest: Oh, that's okay. Mark Miletello: How did you kind of get into this and when did you find out you're really good at helping people learn to speak and maybe you speaking yourself? Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah, I'll tell you what, this is by accident as well. I was terrified to speak. In 2008 I was certified as a fearless living coach, okay? My specialty was helping other business owners get past the fears and excuses that were holding them back in their business. I would work with financial advisers, insurance agents, chiropractors, attorneys, pretty much anyone who had a service-based business. I was out there marketing myself one by one, going to the networking groups like what we were talking about earlier and meeting people that way. Then I just kept hearing, "Deirdre, you really should go out and speak because that's the best way to grow your businesses." I thought no way, no way no how, I had a really bad experience in my ninth grade acting class where my acting teacher told me I stunk. Mark Miletello : Me too. Deirdre VanNest: It broke my heart, Mark. From that moment, I was 14 years old, I left the stage. When I say left the stage I didn't act any longer and I didn't speak in public for 24 years. I never wanted to hear those words, "You stink," again. When someone said, "You should speak," I was like, "Not happening," then what happened was it was kind of like the lesser of two evils. I became more afraid of not growing my business and not helping people with this message that I had than I became of speaking and, so I just forced myself to get out there and do it. Okay? Fast forward a couple of years later and I've actually gotten good at it and I'm actually helping people and I'm actually getting paid for it, but what's not happening is I'm not bringing in clients from the back of the room and at the time that was a really big part of my model was bringing in clients from the back of the room, so I didn't have to run around to all these one on one coffee meetings all the time. Right? So, I thought I got to crack this code so someone knows how to do this, it's just not me. Who knows how to do this? I started studying with some industry gurus and became certified by Craig Valentine as a certified, world-class speaking coach, I worked with another woman Lisa Sakovich who was just a guru upselling from the stage, started using some of what they taught me, then started tweaking it for my own style and trying my own things, and then my clients at the time were asking me if I could share what I was learning about speaking with them. Just kind of like casually and I was like, "All right, yeah. I'll give you some tips on what I'm trying." I was doing that and then I had one client, I'm going to tell you this is the results not typical. One client, it was a husband and wife team, they went and gave a presentation, and this was in I think this was 2011, it might have been early 12, it was 11 or 12. They gave a presentation and within an hour they had signed up 103 new people, prospects to come into their office from one 60 minute presentation. She and I, we were all blow away, we were all blown away. The wife Becky was like, "Deirdre, you have to do this. I don't care what you're doing, but you need to formalize this and start teaching other people," and I was like, "Yes, I do. You are right, this is amazing." I was so excited by their results it actually saved their business. Then that's what happened, I started systematizing things and I started creating a process, I started getting out there and I was out there a lot myself too. I'm out there in the trenches doing the same thing that I'm teaching which is what I still do Mark to this day. Then the brand Crazy Good Talks we came up with that branding a couple of years ago and that was an evolution of time. Right? Of working with different people and helping me figure out the branding, but I do love it because it's fun and that's what it does, it helps people become crazy good so it's just sort of progressed to this point. Mark Miletello: Well you are great and you're a great person and we're glad that you overcame that class. I kind of had a similar story where I could not say two words in front of a group and I said, "I've got to fix this," so yeah thank you. I'll tell you, in our industry especially professional athletes they fumble every now and then. Sometimes they get mulligans sometimes they don't. Well in our industry because you don't make mistakes. When you're on stage you're flawless, so tell me maybe what you think the biggest mistake that most advisers, agents make when speaking. Let's get into some meat that really, we can bite down onto that could help somebody. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah, that's great. I'm sure I make mistakes too, I am not perfect. The last thing I ever want to paint is that picture. Mark Miletello: You're right, I shouldn't do that. That's extra pressure. Deirdre Van Nest: It's extra pressure, exactly. Let me give you a couple of quick wins that you can go and use. The biggest mistake is that most financial insurance professional rely too heavily on their technical expertise alone to deliver their message, Mark. That type of message or language tends to be boring for the consumer and it tends to not be sticky, it tends to be just a lot of facts and figures thrown at people and not have the elements of a presentation that help make it memorable and emotional. The key to really fixing that problem is to be sure to weave stories and analogies and activities throughout your content. Mark Miletello: You watched my rehearsal. I think I tried to do that, I tried to make it more about the storytelling than the facts and figures. I think that's exactly what you're saying is to ... you even kind of helped me understand, which I knew it as well as the others that were watching me, I knew that I was turning my head and looking too much at my own information. The less information that you plaster on the wall the less you're going to be tempted to turn around and look at it more than you're connecting with the audience. I agree I think we must have more stories. We talked about a mistake that they make, what about ... can you give us like a quick win like a strategy that listeners can use right away to make the best that they can with what they have? You know, make their next speech better. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah, this is my favorite tip to teach because it's one of those small things that makes a big difference and it's something your listeners could use the moment they stop listening to the podcast. Here it is, the most important part of the presentation is the opening. The reason for that is that's the time frame that people are going to decide if they're going to tune you in or tune you out. Okay? You only have about five to 30 seconds to capture their attention and if what you're saying isn't anything more interesting than what they can find on their phone your talk is toast. What's interesting Mark is that if you can grab people right away they are likely to stay with you for the entire presentation, but if you lose them, in the beginning, you're going to work doubly hard to get them back. You've probably been to presentations where's that happened, where like they start snoozing you in the beginning and you're like, "Oh man," right? And then you're off to the races. Mark Miletello: You can tell from right off the bat, I agree. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah. Mark Miletello: I went to your website and I watched all the free tips that I could grab off of their which I think we’re really informative, but that's one of the few things you said to me when we met for just a few minutes before my rehearsal and its really kind of gotten me to thinking about is my beginning powerful enough? I've gone back to the drawing board and thinking how can I make that really connect in a way? I think you're right, it's real helpful but maybe you can give us an example of how we can do that. Deirdre Van Nest: Absolutely, absolutely. There are two strategies that I love for grabbing your audience's attention from the first words out of your mouth. The first strategy is to open by immediately asking them a question. Okay? The question should do three things, it should be related to your content in some way, it shouldn't just be some random question, it should be related to what's coming and the topic. It ideally would get them nodding their heads yes in agreement with you and then the third is it should get them thinking about themselves, the audience thinking about themselves. For an example, tell me what are the benefits that the listener will receive from taking your advice? Mark Miletello: What are the benefits ... in the meeting they're more informed of what their coverages are so personally maybe they should consider doing business with us but to be able... they're not a licensed insurance agent but they can say, I do know this, and I know a person that you should talk to because looking at your current policy or moving to this new home you might need to talk to a professional that I know. The benefit is educating them to make them think that you are the go-to person regardless of price. A real estate in town do we shop around and find out who has the lowest fees, or do we go to the most well-known person that we feel will do the best job? That's I think the ultimate reason we would speak to a group of realtors is to become the expert in the field and I need your help to be a better speaker so that I can look better in front of them. Deirdre Van Nest: Got it, got it. You could do something like your point is, hey we want to educate you so that you have the best information and you're not going out and price shopping people. Right? Mark Miletello: That's right. Deirdre Van Nest: Your question could be to them; your opening question could be something like how do you feel if your own clients' price shop you or how would you feel if a client- Mark Miletello: Chose their realtor based on commission rate. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah, exactly. Yes, if you lost a listing based on the commission or if you lost a listing because your competitor was willing to list for one percent less or half a percent less. Mark Miletello: Right, that'll get their attention. Deirdre Van Nest: Right and they're gonna be like, "I wouldn't like that, I don't like that." That's how you should be looking at this, in this industry. Maybe you're going in there because you're educating them, and you want to equip them so that they're the trusted adviser to their clients who have all the answers about their home buying experience. Maybe your angle is would you rather your clients see you as their real estate agent or a part of their trusted advisory team? Mark Miletello: Right. Deirdre Van Nest: "Oh trusted advisory team." Mark Miletello: I guess my feeble attempts at funny jokes is not the way to open a meeting, huh? Deirdre Van Nest: I guess it depends on how funny the joke is. Mark Miletello: Yeah, I guess so. Deirdre Van Nest: I was going to give you the second strategy. Mark Miletello: I'll take it. Deirdre Van Nest: That's the first strategy is to open with a question. The second strategy is to just jump right into a story. You could open with a story and so let's say you're talking to those same realtors, maybe the story is about a realtor who used to work with another agent and now they're working with you and what their experience has been. Maybe it's what I call your Why Story, why you're even in this business and why you care about the realtor relationship. Kind of like I told you my Why Story earlier. Mark Miletello: Yeah, things are going through my mind right now of how I could have spoken in front of the realtor group and maybe had other realtor’s endorsements and talk about how those relationships have evolved. Yeah, it's good stuff. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah. Then if you're going to jump right into a story my recommendation isn't just say, "Oh I'm gonna tell you a story," you could just start by saying, "It was May 24, 1980, beautiful spring night in Chappaqua, New York," or you could say something like, "I want to take you back to the fall of 1992," or "I want to introduce you to my client Mark. Mark was a blah, blah, blah," right? Those are story starters if you will. Mark Miletello: No one’s getting up and leaving when you start like that. Deirdre Van Nest: No, they're not. Mark Miletello: I want to hear. Deirdre Van Nest: And you've got their attention, exactly, you've got their attention. Mark Miletello: Well I love the nugget that you gave us about how to interject, implant ourselves in someone else's efforts of either networks or events or seminars. I love the advice, the professional advice that you've given us. I felt so privileged that I had a few minutes to meet you and know you and to have you watch me rehearse. To me just really the things that you've said have given me more confidence, I'm going in a better direction than I was without you. If other people ... and I don't want it to stop there, I do want to continue getting better and there are several ways to do that, but one is to connect with you in a better way. As we kind of wind down this show how would I work with you more, how do I reach you, what do I need to do to take the next step into learning the things that you've already taught me to build off that? Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah great question. There's a couple of different options. I think the best step is to subscribe to Crazy Good Talks TV. That's something that was just launched and it's a weekly video episode specifically for financial advisers and insurance agents. Mark Miletello: Nice. Deirdre Van Nest: Each episode, yeah yeah, each episode has a strategy on how to either be a better speaker or how to grow your business for speaking, how to market yourself, get books for speaking, all things building your business and your brand through speaking. Then each episode also comes with a downloadable template, worksheet, cheat sheet to help you implement that week's lesson. That's a great first step and that's great for readers or advisers and agents and to get that you just got to crazygoodtalks.com/tv. Then the other option is one of the things that I do a lot of is keynoting at conferences and individual companies will hire me to come in and do training for their advisers and agents. If you're a leader listening, and you're interested in something like that just shooting me an email, likewise if you're an individual producer and you're interested in learning this skill set for yourself I do have a 12-month Crazy Good Talks training program where I will teach you step-by-step the ins and outs of how to become a crazy good speaker and how to really build your brand and bring in business through speaking. If either one of those things interests, you I think just sending me an email Mark to D-V-N so Deirdre Victor Nancy@crazygoodtalks with an S .com. Mark Miletello: Well that's crazy exciting, I think that of course you're gonna be on a platform speaking at Lamp in front of all the industry greats and as well as the show will reach a very broad audience including managers and anyone that wants to host a meeting I think you would be a valuable addition like I said in the short amount of time I've known you I feel like I've learned a lot and I feel like I owe you something. I guess you need to invoice me, but- Deirdre Van Nest: No, you are very kind. I'm thrilled to be here. Mark Miletello: It really is, just those few little things when someone is trying to get better at something that is not their forte and yeah, you're saying, "Well Mark you're hosting a radio show so ..." well you know I'm just having fun, I know I can be better at even doing this and every show I get better. But more importantly than that Deirdre is I want to be able to go to my next meeting, I want to go into that and now I can teach my agents how to connect with niche markets that we have, and I can assist them and maybe be the guy that stands up until they feel the confidence and find their voice or help them find their voice. Deirdre Van Nest: Yeah. Mark Miletello: I see a lot of application in what you do and if I wouldn't have sat next to you or if I wouldn't hear you speak I probably wouldn't realize the value of how much we need that to be better at that type of talent. I just want to thank you for agreeing to come on the show Where the Insurance Pros Meet and thank you for your time. Deirdre Van Nest: Thank you for having me, it's been a pleasure. Mark Miletello: Absolutely and if you like what you hear go to iTunes, rate and review the show so that others can find it. You can follow me of course on MarkMiletello.com and you will be able to connect via the show on my website on the podcast link, you'll be able to connect to Deirdre Van Nest. Thank you again and we will see you at the next show.

How I shifted my morning based on the book “The Perfect Day”. On today's episode Russell talks about how to get 2 hours more of work in everyday and his schedule that will make it happen. He also shares a cool story about Marcus Lemonis. Here are 3 cool things you'll hear in this episode: Why Marcus Lemonis called Russell 3 times in a row in less than a minute. What book convinced Russell to change his schedule and devote two hours a day to funnel building. How Russell's new funnel building schedule is working for him since he started it two days ago. So listen below to hear how Russell gets 8 hours of work done in just two hours every morning. ---Transcript--- Good morning everybody and welcome to Marketing In Your Car. Alright, so it's a beautiful day, things are amazing. I'm in a great mood and I want to talk to you guys about something that I'm doing that's a little bit crazy, not gonna lie. Little borderline, well you guys have been with me for a lot crazier things, but this one is really cool. I'm going to be trying to convince everybody that I'm friends with that this is a new way to live. I'm going to begin with you guys, because if I can convince you, then I can convince anybody. So this is where we're at right now. I have always been trying to figure out how to get more done each day. That's the hardest thing. How do you get more crap done every single day and be able to spend more…….? For me it's like, I got a lot of crap I gotta get done for work, family, church, there's so many things. So it's like, if I get an extra 3 or 4 hours a day or 4 or 5 days a week or whatever, that's amazing, but how do you do that? So I've tried all sorts of stuff. It's been interesting, in the past I always try to wake up at 6 to go lift weights, with that, it's interesting, it works sometimes, but it's easy for my brain to say no. I usually do probably 2 or 3 days a week, when I get up early and actually lift at 6. It's not consistent and kind of hard, and I lift and hang out with my kids, then go to the office, the office day happens and there's people and stuff. Then I come home and play with my kids again. It's always good and I get a lot of stuff done, but how do I get more? Last week I was in Joe Polishes 25K group, and oh man I'm going to tell you guys a story. I wonder if I should tell you another story. I was going to do a podcast since then, I totally forgot. This is called an ADD moment, then we'll head back. So remind me when I get stuck, where to head back. We're heading back to the book, but before then…this is amazing. So the last day at the 25K group we were stting in the meetings and all the sudden my phone rang 3 times from Marcus Lemonis The Profit, and I was like, “Oh man, I'm stuck in this meeting, I can't answer right now.” And then he texts me, “Call me right now.” And I text him like, “I'm stuck in a meeting, I really can't. I'll call you as soon as I can.” So at the break I called him, no one answered. I called again, no one answered. I'm like, “Dangit. I missed the little window.” And part of me is kind of freaking out, what in the world is happening where he would call me three times in a minute, there's got to be something happening. So then that night, he texts me and he's like, “Can you talk now?” And I was about to jump in an Uber, but I was like, I just dialed right back immediately. So I called him and first thing he says is “Hello.” And I'm like, “Hey Marcus, this is Russell.” He goes. “You're being….I'm” What did he say? “I'm on location and we're recording right now, you're on camera is that okay?” Isn't that crazy? So I'm like, ”Yes, that's totally cool.” He's like, “Okay Russell, this is the deal. I'm at a meeting with these guys, they own a watch company and I'm thinking about doing a deal with them. But I was talking to them about the business model and they mentioned funnels and I asked them what they knew about funnels and they were like, ‘There's this guy named Russell Brunson.'” And he was like, “Wait, you know Russell?” and they're like, “Yeah, we've been to his events, we use Clickfunnels.” And Marcus is like, “Hold on.” And right then he called me 3 times in a row trying to get hold of me and obviously I didn't answer the phone, I blew it. He's like, “I'm sitting with them right now and I'm trying to make a deal, but I'm curious if I do make a deal with them, would you be willing to come on the show and actually build their sales funnel for them?” And I'm just like, I wish you could see me. I'm trying to be all super cool guy on the phone, so my voice is trying, I'm trying not to start squealing like a little girl, have my voice crack or something, but I'm jumping up and down on the spot and going nuts. All the people about to jump in the Uber with me are probably wondering. Did Russell win the lottery or something? What's happening? I'm jumping up and down and going crazy. So I'm like, “I would be honored. I would love to come help you guys build your funnels.” And he's like, “Okay cool. That's what I needed to know. Thanks man.” And I'm like, “Alright, thanks.” And that was it. Isn't that crazy. Oh so crazy. So I'm going crazy and then I text Marcus later, and I'm like, “What's the company, give me more info about it.” He texts me back and tells me what the company name was and he's like, “I'm going to cut you in on equity on this deal.” And that was it. I haven't heard from his since, it's been like 3 days. I' m going crazy. But is that insane? Crazy. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you guys. I was going to that night, but I must have forgot. So there you guys go. There's my ADD tangent. Now I need to come back to the story at hand. Okay, so back to where we're at. So at the event they gave me, Joe Polish handed out these boxes. These big orange boxes. I'd gotten one before, I had one in the mail. I didn't know what it was. The outside says The Perfect Day. You open it up and there's a book and a journal and a bunch of stuff. And it's this product created by Craig Valentine. I'd gotten it before, but I never read it. I'm like, “Oh cool.” Anyway, I took the box and when I was heading home that night, I pulled the book out and I'm like, “I'll read this on the plane, so I jump on the plane, start reading the book. And in this book, he's talking about how to create the perfect day and he's showing a bunch of things, and the book was awesome. But the thing that was the most powerful for me, was he showed what his schedule was. Craig's schedule is, he gets up at 4 o'clock every morning. From 4 to 6:30 he writes. At 6:30 he has breakfast, he does meditation or something and then I don't know, at whatever the next time is, an hour later, he gets back and writes for another 2 ½ hours. Then he has his stand up meeting with his company at 10:30. So by 10:30 in the morning, he has had 5 hours of focused energy time writing and doing what he needs to get done. And then the rest of his day is answering emails, meeting with people, all the crap that normally we do in an office. He goes to bed at 8 every single night. At first I'm like, “Dude, he is insane. 4 in the morning, I will never in a billion, infinity, million years do that ever. It's just not going to happen.” And I was like, because I don't go to bed until 2 in the morning, so if I got up at 4 that's 2 hours of sleep and I would die. But if I went to bed at midnight, how would it work? Midnight to 4, 4 hours is not enough. So I'm like what if I went to bed at 10, 10 to 4 that's only 6 hours, that's about how much sleep I get now. But what if I extended that. What if I woke up at 5 and go to bed at 10 o'clock and wake up at 5. I try to do his process. And my day is different. I've got a million kids. I don't have the luxury of breakfast and meditation before I start writing again. I've got breakfast and diapers and screaming, you know getting kids ready and it's insane. But I was like, what if I woke up at 5 and from 5 til 7, 2 hours every morning, I got up and that's my funnel time. I always tell people that if I could do anything in the business all day, all I'd do is sit there and build funnels. But I rarely have that time, just to sit there and build funnels. So I'm like, what if I made it so the 5am to 7am every morning is my funnel time. I don't check emails, I don't check Facebook or anything. All I'm allowed to do is open up Clickfunnels build funnels and write copy and all the pieces I need to do to push funnels forward. So I was kind of excited so Sunday night I got all ready and my goal was to get to bed by 9, but I forgot that my kids go to bed at 9, which usually bleeds into 9:30 or 9:45. So that didn't work, so it was like 9:45b finally the kids are in bed and I told my wife, “I'm going to bed, my goal is to go to sleep at 10” You know she's been married to me for a long time and knows I typically don't go to bed until 1 or 2. I was like, I'm going to try this. So I went to bed at 10 and it took me a little while to go to sleep because I wasn't used to that. But luckily I was tired, it'd been a long day. So I fell asleep at 10, woke up at 5, got up and went in there and I started working building funnels for 2 hours. It was amazing. It wasn't like when I wake up to go work out, there's a lot of resistance. I have to get up, get clothes on, go out. There's a lot of things that have to happen. Whereas for me to get up and go sit on the computer and build funnels, there's zero resistance and it was really easy and I did it. And then I ate really healthy throughout the day and did supplementation stuff to keep my energy levels high throughout the whoile day, but I felt amazing. Then last night I went to be at about 10:30, I was trying to get to bed by 10, but I just had things that came up. So about 10:30 I went to bed, set an alarm for 4:45 basically, that way I can snooze it once. 4:45 my alarm's going off, I totally slept through it. My wife starts kicking me like, “Why is your alarm going off at 4:45?” I'm like, “I'm so sorry.” So I went and turned it off, and jumped out of bed and because it wasn't like, I gotta go put on my workout clothes, all the things your body freaks out about, it was just walking to the other room and start building funnels. I'm excited about it. I just walked into the other room, jumped on and from 5 to 7 today I just built funnels. And I tell you what, in my 2, 2-hour morning so far, I've gotten as much work done as I typically do in an 8 hour day. So I'm going to the office, we have a webinar today, so I'm going to be selling on a webinar, I've got meeting and all this other stuff. And I'm not going to be stressing out, because usually I'm stressing out on days that I have webinars and meetings because I'm like, I need to move my things forward and I can't. Where now, I've already moved things forward by the time my kids are awake, now the rest of the day is just a bonus. Anyway, I'm excited. So that was my first chunk was trying an earlier morning thing, now I'm going to start reorganizing the rest of my life and my schedule to kind of tweak some other things to kind of get it in. Especially since, I don't know if I mentioned this, I probably have, I'm sure I have. We're building a bio-hacking room, so I got a flow tank and a cryosauna coming and a couple other things so I'm trying to map out my ideal day, where it's 5 til 7 I do this, and then 7 til 9 I'm with my kids and then 9 o'clock, I do cryosauna and freeze and then 9:15 I go and lift weights til 10. At 10 o'clock I do flow tank for a few hours. 11 o'clock I come in. I don't know, something like that, I'm trying to figure out exactly what the daily routine will be. But I started it with waking up basically an hour to 2 hours earlier with focus on 2 hours of funnel time and I tell you what, it's been amazing. So what I'm recommending for you guys to do, is wake up an hour to 2 hours earlier and do some funnel time, or writing time or whatever it is that you need to be doing more of in your business and your life. Spend that time there. And it's interesting. Anyway, I'm two days in, loving it and having a great time. I hope that you guys try it as well. I'm going to try to convince everyone I know to do this as well. I would rather, knowing how I'm feeling right now, I would rather wake up two hours earlier, and leave the office two hours earlier, because you'll get 10 times more stuff done. Which is crazy to think because it's the same time, it's just sifting it all a little bit. So there you go. I guess one problem if I convince all my team to wake up earlier, then we'll all be awake and it's just like we're all at the office again which will just ruin us. So maybe I shouldn't let them know about this big secret we got. Anyway, that's what I got. I'm at the office, I've got a call with a lawyer, never fun but my lawyer's awesome, so that's one good thing. First lawyer I ever met I liked. Then I got a meeting with my accountant, which accountants are as bad if not worse than lawyers. But we got a new accountant that I actually like, so it's going to be a good day. Then we got a webinar, some selling. It's going to be a good day and I'm excited and the sun's beautiful. A lot of good stuff happening. So appreciate you all. Have an amazing day and I'll talk to you guys all again, hopefully tomorrow. Alright guys. Talk to you soon.

I’m like, “Oh cool.” Anyway, I took the box and when I was heading home that night, I pulled the book out and I’m like, “I’ll read this on the plane, so I jump on the plane, start reading the book. And in this book, he’s talking about how to create the perfect day and he’s showing a bunch of things, and the book was awesome. But the thing that was the most powerful for me, was he showed what his schedule was. Craig’s schedule is, he gets up at 4 o’clock every morning. From 4 to 6:30 he writes. At 6:30 he has breakfast, he does meditation or something and then I don’t know, at whatever the next time is, an hour later, he gets back and writes for another 2 ½ hours. At first I’m like, “Dude, he is insane. 4 in the morning, I will never in a billion, infinity, million years do that ever. It’s just not going to happen.” And I was like, because I don’t go to bed until 2 in the morning, so if I got up at 4 that’s 2 hours of sleep and I would die. But if I went to bed at midnight, how would it work? Midnight to 4, 4 hours is not enough. So I’m like what if I went to bed at 10, 10 to 4 that’s only 6 hours, that’s about how much sleep I get now. But what if I extended that. What if I woke up at 5 and go to bed at 10 o’clock and wake up at 5. I try to do his process. And my day is different. I’ve got a million kids. I don’t have the luxury of breakfast and meditation before I start writing again. I’ve got breakfast and diapers and screaming, you know getting kids ready and it’s insane. But I was like, what if I woke up at 5 and from 5 til 7, 2 hours every morning, I got up and that’s my funnel time. I always tell people that if I could do anything in the business all day, all I’d do is sit there and build funnels. But I rarely have that time, just to sit there and build funnels. So I’m like, what if I made it so the 5am to 7am every morning is my funnel time. I don’t check emails, I don’t check Facebook or anything. All I’m allowed to do is open up Clickfunnels build funnels and write copy and all the pieces I need to do to push funnels forward. So I was kind of excited so Sunday night I got all ready and my goal was to get to bed by 9, but I forgot that my kids go to bed at 9, which usually bleeds into 9:30 or 9:45. So that didn’t work, so it was like 9:45b finally the kids are in bed and I told my wife, “I’m going to bed, my goal is to go to sleep at 10” You know she’s been married to me for a long time and knows I typically don’t go to bed until 1 or 2. I was like, I’m going to try this. So I went to bed at 10 and it took me a little while to go to sleep because I wasn’t used to that. But luckily I was tired, it’d been a long day. So I fell asleep at 10, woke up at 5, got up and went in there and I started working building funnels for 2 hours. It was amazing. It wasn’t like when I wake up to go work out, there’s a lot of resistance. I have to get up, get clothes on, go out. There’s a lot of things that have to happen. Whereas for me to get up and go sit on the computer and build funnels, there’s zero resistance and it was really easy and I did it. 4:45 my alarm’s going off, I totally slept through it. My wife starts kicking me like, “Why is your alarm going off at 4:45?” I’m like, “I’m so sorry.” So I went and turned it off, and jumped out of bed and because it wasn’t like, I gotta go put on my workout clothes, all the things your body freaks out about, it was just walking to the other room and start building funnels. I’m excited about it. I just walked into the other room, jumped on and from 5 to 7 today I just built funnels. And I tell you what, in my 2, 2-hour morning so far, I’ve gotten as much work done as I typically do in an 8 hour day. So I’m going to the office, we have a webinar today, so I’m going to be selling on a webinar, I’ve got meeting and all this other stuff. And I’m not going to be stressing out, because usually I’m stressing out on days that I have webinars and meetings because I’m like, I need to move my things forward and I can’t. Where now, I’ve already moved things forward by the time my kids are awake, now the rest of the day is just a bonus. Anyway, I’m excited. So that was my first chunk was trying an earlier morning thing, now I’m going to start reorganizing the rest of my life and my schedule to kind of tweak some other things to kind of get it in. Especially since, I don’t know if I mentioned this, I probably have, I’m sure I have. We’re building a bio-hacking room, so I got a flow tank and a cryosauna coming and a couple other things so I’m trying to map out my ideal day, where it’s 5 til 7 I do this, and then 7 til 9 I’m with my kids and then 9 o’clock, I do cryosauna and freeze and then 9:15 I go and lift weights til 10. At 10 o’clock I do flow tank for a few hours. 11 o’clock I come in. I don’t know, something like that, I’m trying to figure out exactly what the daily routine will be. But I started it with waking up basically an hour to 2 hours earlier with focus on 2 hours of funnel time and I tell you what, it’s been amazing. So what I’m recommending for you guys to do, is wake up an hour to 2 hours earlier and do some funnel time, or writing time or whatever it is that you need to be doing more of in your business and your life. Spend that time there. And it’s interesting. Anyway, I’m two days in, loving it and having a great time. I hope that you guys try it as well. I’m going to try to convince everyone I know to do this as well. I would rather, knowing how I’m feeling right now, I would rather wake up two hours earlier, and leave the office two hours earlier, because you’ll get 10 times more stuff done. Which is crazy to think because it’s the same time, it’s just sifting it all a little bit. So there you go. I guess one problem if I convince all my team to wake up earlier, then we’ll all be awake and it’s just like we’re all at the office again which will just ruin us. So maybe I shouldn’t let them know about this big secret we got. Anyway, that’s what I got. I’m at the office, I’ve got a call with a lawyer, never fun but my lawyer’s awesome, so that’s one good thing. First lawyer I ever met I liked. Then I got a meeting with my accountant, which accountants are as bad if not worse than lawyers. But we got a new accountant that I actually like, so it’s going to be a good day. Then we got a webinar, some selling. It’s going to be a good day and I’m excited and the sun’s beautiful. A lot of good stuff happening. So appreciate you all. Have an amazing day and I’ll talk to you guys all again, hopefully tomorrow. Alright guys. Talk to you soon.
