Author Dan Armstrong was inspired to write The Adventures of a Real-Life Cable Guy as a way to share the unique and often humorous experiences he encountered during his thirty-year career in the cable television industry. Initially, he had no idea that being a cable installer was even a profession; his childhood dreams leaned towards becoming an FBI agent or a police officer. However, at the age of twenty, he began working for a local cable company, which opened his eyes to a world filled with diverse characters and stories.Throughout his career, Armstrong collected anecdotes that ranged from the comedic to the tragic. He wanted to capture these moments—such as servicing both a million-dollar mansion and a modest trailer on the same day, saving lives, and witnessing poignant human experiences—to illustrate the rich tapestry of life that he encountered in people's homes. His motivation also stemmed from a desire to reflect on how overcoming personal challenges, like his childhood speech impediment and experiences with bullying, shaped his resilience and storytelling abilities. By sharing these stories, Armstrong aims to entertain and inspire others, proving that even the most unconventional careers can lead to extraordinary narratives. Dan Armstrong was an original thinker. As a musician he toured with Van Morrison. He was one of the creative forces behind the Ampog SVT amplifier. Lancaster, Pennsylvania-native Dan Armstrong was born with a cleft palate, a congenital abnormality during fetal development that leaves a hole in the roof of the mouth. While today this is frequently surgically fixed during infancy, Dan, 60, had a prosthesis put in his mouth to enable him to speak. As you can imagine, as a result of this condition, he was mercilessly bullied by neighborhood kids and classmates. While his parents always encouraged him to believe in himself, even featuring him as lead on a song recorded by his family's musical act, The Armstrong Family, Dan was angry — so angry that at age 10, he nearly killed a childhood friend for making fun of the way he spoke. "I remember putting my knee next to his head and pushing until I heard a crack. I remember hearing that crack and realizing I came this close to taking someone's life," he said. Dan knew he had to work on his anger, and channeled his energy into writing stories and songs, working on his speech and singing, and even acting in school plays. With guiding love from his parents and practice to build his throat, palate, and lung strength, Dan ended up touring and recording with a band. But he was also working a day job as a cable guy, which turned out to be an unexpected love. It enabled him to develop his affinity for connecting with people. "I'm like a rolling bartender. I walk into someone's house, and they immediately open up," he said. Dan turned many unbelievable stories from his career into a book, The Adventures of a Real-Life Cable Guy. Since its release, he has written or co-authored four more books with another on the way. He is also on the speaking circuit, turning his story into life lessons that others can follow. "Right now, I'm very passionate about what I do. When I speak to audiences, I swear I see people crying," he said. Dan is an overwhelmingly positive guy with a love of discovery, a genuine compassion for others, and a complete lack of judgment. His insights on the way to treat people are inspirational and ingenious. I'm sure you will enjoy his easy-going nature in this week's episode of Chiseled. Want to connect with Dan? You can check him out on his website, contact him on Facebook or listen to the end of the episode to hear him share his email address.

Recently a farmer reference group was formed in the Mid Coast region of NSW to provide information and guidance on an economic and risk analysis of rearing non-replacement calves. The project was led by Dan Armstrong, Senior Consultant with the RM Consulting Group. In the analysis, Dan and his team used two of the farms as case studies where the goal was to sell the non-replacement calves as dairy beef and investigate whether it would be economically practical to hold onto these calves and pursue this alternative pathway. This was the second phase of a Dairy UP project looking at Sustainable Pathways for Surplus calves, led by Dairy Australia. The first phase involved a variety of consultation activities in the Nowra region with consumers, farmers, milk and meat processors and other supply chain stakeholders looking at alternative management pathways.Useful resources related to this podcast:DairyUP website - further information on this project and others www.dairyup.com.au Dairy Australia's “Surplus Calves” and the Growing Beef from Dairy Project This podcast is an initiative of the NSW DPI Dairy Business Advisory UnitIt is brought to you in partnership the Hunter Local Land ServicesPlease share this podcast with your fellow farmers and colleagues and feel free to contact us with suggestions or comments via this email address thebusinessofdairy@gmail.comFurther NSW DPI Dairy channels to follow and subscribe to include;NSW DPI Dairy Facebook pageDPI Intensive Livestock Twitter feedNSW DPI Dairy NewsletterTranscript hereProduced by Video LiftThe information discussed in this podcast are for informative and educational purposes only and do not constitute advice.

Why Not You for Entrepreneurs, Leadership, and Personal Growth Strategies
Yeah. I think the old adage "sticks and stones may hurt my bones, but words can never harm me" is absolutely false. Words do hurt words, go deep. I mean, those guys could have hit me with sticks and stones and I probably wouldn't remember that, but I still remember the words, the words dig deep, the words can hurt. The words can harm, but words can help and they can heal if we use them properly. And I think from that time, as you asked, yes, it was, it was a tragedy. It was definitely a pain in my life. It was a struggle. But in time I learned that, you know, struggles can become our strengths. Tragedies can become our triumphs and our pain can actually become a passion. I mean, think about a little boy who can't even hardly speak and has spoken now to hundreds, thousands, thousands of people over the course of the last well, since I've been alive.

Broken Oars Podcast, and your genial hosts Lewin (Southern One) and Aaron (Northern One) return with what could be our most important and insightful episode yet. Oh, you always say that, you podding scallywags. Well, yes, we do. And we always mean it too. On this occasion, though, it might just be true. We're joined on this episde by Dan Armstrong, former junior performance pathway rower, former Durham University rower, current Durham University Coach and Tyne University Head Coach. Starting with his introduction to the sport in a non-traditional rowing area (Hexham, Northumberland) and discussing how opportunity can be as important as parental or personal inclination in opening a door, we go on to look at how rowing can be identify forming in junior athletes - and the challenges that brings when it becomes an all-consuming synonym for the individual. Talking openly and honestly about how his own experiences of trying to juggle being a High Performance athlete with family life, the demands of university, and developing into a fully rounded human being all at the same time led to his eventual burnout, Dan goes on to address how his trajectory through the sport and subsequent transition into coaching meshes with the demands and expectations placed on the modern coach; the challenges and responsibilities he feels for his athletes and the sport; why specialisation ultimately always beats standardisation and where British Rowing is heading with our Olympic slots under threat. In tracing Dan's journey from a state-school rowing club in a non-rowing area through to his current role as a coach at one of the country's most prestigious HP programmes, alongside his role in Tyne United's community orientated approach, this episode ties together all of the threads and levels of British Rowing in a fascinatiing, nuanced and expansive deep dive into Broken Oar's Podcast's key themes and interests. Oh, and we also define where the North begins and ends; establish the limits of sports science and the importance of data; talk about PED use in elite sport; why the stance on Modafinil use was indicative of the rot setting in; and why the Northern One has the finish of a sweep oarsman, no matter how many hours he spends sculling? Essential listening. Stern pair? Shush. The grown ups are talking.
In this podcast, Dan Armstrong analyses the Collectio Lanfranci, which became a predominant canonical collection in England, as an example of the tendency to see canon law as a body of norms adaptable to fulfil specific purposes.

Chasing Tone - Guitar Podcast About Gear, Effects, Amps and Tone
Brian, Blake and Richard are back with an all-new episode of the Chasing Tone Podcast!Happy new year to all of our listeners! The guys have been indulging in merriment and chocolate and are feeling the strain - well their waistbands are - and they discuss their gear hauls over the festive period. Brian is still having humidity related issues so Richard suggests a change of location but Brian is not keen.Brian bought himself a new toy for Christmas and tells us all about it and all about his (non peanut butter flavored) cookies. Blake and Brian also discuss the worrying supply chain issues in the electronics industry and it isn't happy listening. Hint: Prices are not going to be going down this year in the music gear industry. It seems as if Brian has fallen into the matrix over the holiday season and Richard wants to pull him back out so he can make some more pedals. Alexa has become dangerous and has proved we are not ready to embrace a fully AI driven life just yet. Bad Alexa. Blake has an amazing Dan Armstrong lucite guitar and the guys love it, it has some interesting technological features plus it weighs less than a baby elephant. Ooh. shiny things. I cant believe we didn't make the Transparent tone gag. The guys also got some amazing gifts from some of our listeners and are bowled over by the generosity so discuss what they got...Important note: several stupid and dangerous things get discussed. Do not listen to anything from these idiots, their brains have been badly affected by the consumption of holiday foodstuffs. Yes foodstuffs, that's it. I'm fascinated by the reasons we each have for moving. Why we move. And it felt the right time to open up the conversation with some of those that we know and who listen to the podcast about their experiences with movement and what it has brought to them. Personally past experiences with movement and observation of others journey I have noticed that we move in whatever form our bodies are innately drawn to and it is my personal belief that is because our body is wanting to express something more than our mind/ego can comprehend or the conventions of sport and competition allow. There comes a time in the experiences Chris and I have listened to when a specific event evolves the idea of movement and physicality from sport and striving towards navigating what we are, who we are and why. So I am saying that movement gives us meaning and a mechanism to process our past lived experiences to make sense of them and organise them in our body and mind to support us in the future. Where sport is about competition and the media narrative is often about crushing it or you are less than so you need to do more. Movement is about connection and when we connect the dots there unfolds an infinite opportunity irrespective of age and ability. The body feels seen, heard and safe, and that is an environment for growth. So I am saying do what attracts you, it may never have been in your mind before but by listening in to our body and its needs there is something to glean for progress. It may not be what you think it is. But the idea that we will glean what we can glean when we are ready to glean what we are ready to glean. Be curious, ask questions, enjoy the expression and know that the more we express the more our capacity for learning and growth will occur. Kicking off the series is our conversation with Dan Armstrong who I met whilst cold sea swimming and connected with over a hot warm drink afterwards. I listened as he expressed his practice of running, sea swimming, structure, simple rules to live by and the freedom that occurred at a time of a family experience that does happen and turns our perspective and why upside down. I thank Dan for his time in conversation, and the time spent with him over the last few years. As with all of these conversations the what, the activity is not the main draw. It is the principles, experience of someone else and the meaning, the ‘why' that is the guide. Enjoy, share and let us know if you have an experience that you feel would be beneficial to share.

This is an exciting time in the tiny house movement, as cities and states across the country are looking at legalizing tiny houses in some form. There are many strategies that advocates of tiny houses are using to push for tiny house legalization. I recently heard from a listener, today’s guest Dan Armstrong, about something called RILUPA, or the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act. There have been several examples of churches and nonprofits using this law to legally build tiny house villages. Dan is here to explain what RILUPA is and how it can be used to help forge a path forward for tiny house villages. The post How This Little-Known Law Can Help Build Legal Tiny House Villages with Dan Armstrong – #083 appeared first on The Tiny House.

For the first time we had a change of venue and recorded at Mike's newly purchased house. We endured the Australian cult classic, "Body Melt." While not all aspects of this "bad movie" were bad it was still entertaining, i guess it helps to have good company and good beers. For this episode we were joined by the one and only Karl Redgen. Karl is a talented filmmaker with a passion for beer and exploitation cinema. He was right at home with us. We spoke about the hit soap opera "Neighbours," Australian actors, frustrations with Government funded film grants, exploitation films, body horror, drunken debauchery, and much much more. We threw a few shout outs to our friends; Chip from Florida, Dan Armstrong, who is a makes some fantastic exploitation films in Melbourne, and our friends at Penny Young in Moonee Ponds. Our beer roster was: - Crown Lager - Coopers Session Ale - Murray's Rudeboy Pilsner - Murray's Angry Man Pale Ale - Akasha Tradewind Lager - Three Greens Sunrise Ale - Cavalier Pale Ale - Moon Dog Mr. Mistafelees Passion Fruit and Mango Wild Ale - Moon Dog Perverse Sexual Amalgam Black Wild Ale - 3 Ravens Moussey Juicy

Our Guest Dan Armstrong is the Chief Digital Officer at BankMobile, America’s first fee- free mobile first bank. With mobile banking and financial services, telecommunications and technology projects in 40+ countries, Dan brings unique expertise in developing new products, technologies and distribution strategies that accurately match technology with consumers’ needs. For the past 20 years, Dan has worked in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America start-ups, mobile banking/payments, instant-account opening and correspondent banking, telecommunications, NFC, cards, alliances, regulatory, feasibility and automation programs. Here are the highlights of our conversation with our guest: Getting to know Daniel more including his travels, e-telco projects and his learnings regarding the ubiquity of mobile around the world after being in many other continents. As takeaways from trying things out from the rest of the world, Dan shares the bigger things and functionalities that we should bring back. Dan’s observations of countries who are early adopters of technology vis-à-vis the user behavior that they are exhibiting. Dan’s background from having a degree in Philosophy, his real first job as a museum and exhibit designer for an architecture company and how this line of work did him well during his transition to designing websites. He also shares how he transitioned to banking and when the realization that having a mobile services package can very impactful to a lot of markets came about; and the different, interesting ways of how to get people to get a bank account from country to country. The main things that Dan is currently facing and the solutions that he feels would be a great fit to the market. This includes innovating by setting up an entire software services division with his CTO; white labelling by establishing a platform which can be sold to other channels which can be rebranded and repositioned; and doing what they do best: controlling experiences and enabling capabilities without necessarily conquering the world with your own brand. With all the new ways that they are working on in entering the platform, we inquire if Dan notices any user fragmentation and if they have plans to centralize these channels into one platform; plus what their core model differentiator is compared to others in the market. Where he sees the mobile banking will be in the near future and the interesting things that may come about. Rapid Fire Questions What is your definition of innovation? Innovation is a good term but is overused these days. I like the term partnership better – a lot of suppliers and vendors call their customers ‘partners’. Real innovation is doing something that fundamentally takes a step forward or sideways and not just incremental capabilities or UI…I want to take innovation at a higher standard. Would you put more emphasis on the idea or the execution? How would you weigh each of them and why? I believe that the key is really execution. Execute in a way that is so much more unique and attractive to people as execution is the trick to success. In our market, it’s all execution so it’s probably its 80% execution and 20% ideas. What is your biggest learning lesson on your journey so far? One size fits all is certainly not the way this world functions. Look at each market differently and it’s dynamics. What is your favorite business book? The Song of the Dodo: Island Biogeography in an Age of Extinction by David Quammen What is your favorite digital resource? TechCrunch Krebs on Security What is your favorite app and why? Communications apps such as WhatsApp What is the coolest thing that you are working on right now that you want everyone to know about? We are involved in the working on the patent on the UI of our new app which will change a number of things that mobile banking has never done before.
