Creative Genius

In this episode of the Creative Genius podcast, I interview Rebe Huntman about her debut memoir, "My Mother in Havana, a memoir of magic and miracle." Rebe shares her personal story of losing her mother at a young age and the subsequent decades of feeling disconnected from her memory. Driven by a deep longing and intuition, Rebe embarked on a 30-day DIY pilgrimage to Cuba to seek a different perspective on grief and connection. The conversation delves into how Rebe's background as a Latin dancer led her to discover the spiritual roots of Cuban dances and the traditions of honoring the deceased.  Rebe recounts her experiences immersing herself in rituals dedicated to the goddess Oshun, visiting the sanctuary of Cuba's patron saint, and meeting with a spiritist who she hoped would connect her with her mother.Rebe and I discuss the importance of intuition and following one's unique path, even when it doesn't seem logical. We also explore the disconnect in Western culture from ancestral connections, magic, and meaningful rituals, contrasting it with the Cuban traditions of keeping the dead close. The conversation touches on the challenges of staying creative and connected to one's inner voice in the face of overwhelming global issues and personal fears. Rebe shares her belief in creativity as a portal and emphasizes the importance of honouring inner longings and choosing to champion humanity. She also shares her personal rituals for grounding and connecting with her intuition and ancestors, offering practical advice for listeners seeking to do the same. Ultimately, Rebe's story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, the wisdom of intuition, and the potential for magic and miracle in our lives, even in the darkest of times.

This is going to be a cool episode of Live Your Dreams Awake as we bring back one of the most listened interviews over my Wise Women Summit, the interview I had with another incredible Irish woman, a mystic, a healer, a Shaman and perhaps the first to bring the Celtic calendar and Celtic wisdom into light in Ireland. She is the author of the best selling book, Ever Ancient Ever New: Celtic Spirituality in the 21st Century, which brings to light a new way for humankind to be in the world. I am talking about Dolores Whelan, who has been teaching people spiritual awareness based on the Creation Centered Spirituality. Be inspired by her journey of awakening and learn the value of profound spiritual tradition that is within our DNA. Relive the inspiration from this episode, enjoy! REMEMBER - "What we can plan is too small for us to live." This week's Feng Shui tip on how to call in all your dreams and desires into your life. Put your dreams down in paper and write them in the present tense as if it is happening already in your life. For example: I am grateful for my loving relationship or I am grateful for the exotic travel and places I have been to. Make those intentions as specific as can be. Place the paper of your affirmations in an envelope and place it underneath your bed mattress. You will be able to tune in to those dreams into reality. HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT WE COVER DURING THIS EPISODE: Dolores’ light bulb moment and her journey to find what’s missing in her life. What is Creation Centered Spirituality? The Study of the Celtic Calendar, the eight seasons which are initiated by festivals, e.g. Winter Solstice, Summer Equinox. Do you know that four of the festivals are feminine and the other four are masculine? (...that the balance of feminine and masculine energy was woven into the very fabric of life?)   Why is the Samhain festival the most important festival of the year? Why is it important to accept the Samhain energy in the phase of our lives? Love of self can mean being non-doing or non-productive and the realization that we are part of the natural rhythm.   LINKS & RESOURCES: Ever Ancient Ever New: Celtic Spirituality in the 21st Century by Dolores Whelan Free meditation guide to step into success   CONNECT WITH DOLORES WHELAN: Website   CONNECT WITH ME Website Facebook

Deep Creativity: Inside the Creative Mystery with Victor Shamas, Ph.D. Deep Creativity reveals the findings of Victor Shamas’ 30-year exploration of the creative process. Rather than observing creativity in others, he delved into the experience directly in order to uncover hidden truths and break free of common misconceptions. Deep Creativity turns fundamental assumptions about creativity on their head while offering fresh perspectives on the scientific method, fractals, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, plate tectonics, mind and consciousness, hero myths, the life cycle, sleep and dreams, mothers’ intuition, the nature of wisdom, peak experiences, and even the Gospels. Written from a research psychologist’s perspective, Deep Creativity portrays the creative experience as a bold adventure filled with passion, turmoil, inspiration, sacrifice, sheer joy, self-transcendence, and unconditional love. Dr. Victor Shamas is a University of Arizona psychologist, the founder of two Tucson-based nonprofit groups (Global Chant and PlayHaven), and the author of four books: Deep Creativity: Inside the Creative Mystery, The Way of Play, The Chanter's Guide, and the Amazon bestseller, Repose: The Potent Pause, co-authored with Jhan Kold. What follows is an interesting story about how one of the world's most famous artists Anish Kapoor was given the exclusive rights to produce art using the "blackest black" pigment ever produced, called Vantablack (which I have written about previously here: https://www.ideatovalue.com/curi/nickskillicorn/2016/07/new-blackest-material-world-absorbing-99-965-light/). Stuart is leading the fight back, saying it is bad news for all other artists to be prevented from expressing themselves using this new medium, and has also worked to make extreme colours available to everyone with his "pinkest pink" paint (except for Mr Kapoor though). Topics covered in this episode: * Stuart's history and current art projects (01:00) * The controversy behind Vantablack and how the artistic community was excluded (02:30) * Should an artist not have the right to have exclusive access to something if they get there first? (05:45) * How different artists will use materials in different ways to express themselves (07:00) * Stuart's history in creating colours and getting to the pinkest pink in the world, with yet more controversy (08:30) * Our computers can't actually handle the brightness of real-life colour saturations, and only output in Red, Blue and Green (10:30) * Everyone gets creative blocks, even professional artists, but you need to work through them (12:00) * The difference between work he initiates himself and work commissioned by other people (13:45) * The difference between creativity and self-expression (16:00) * Does he still feel anxiety about what people will think before he releases his work (17:00) Links from this Episode: * Stuart's art: http://stuartsemple.com  * Buying some of Stuart's amazing paint: https://culturehustle.com/  Bonus: This episode was made possible by our premium members and the Deep Creativity training system. We also talk about the stories from his new book "That S*it will never sell" We talk about what it takes to find an idea for a new product. Things discussed in this week's interview: Even good ideas take a long time to become a success. It took Baileys about 5-7 years to become a worldwide success. (02:30) In order for a new idea to gain traction within a company, it needs to get support from someone quite senior who sees the potential, even if that person doesn't like the product themselves (05:30) Often, middle management ends up getting in the way because they simply do not have the authority to say yes and enable ideas (06:30) The consumer is not always right, especially in focus groups. They don't really care about the product. Market research is put on too high a pedestal (08:00) If you want to come up with a good solution, you need to really understand your client's problem (09:15) You should always check your product with consumers, as they will give you insights and viewpoints you would never have thought of, but you need to know which insights to listen to (10:00) The best work is created as a dialogue between the briefer and the creator (13:30) In order to get an idea to work, you need commitment from the right people in various parts of the business and have them take ownership (14:30) You should never have a Plan B (18:00) Research will never give you all the confidence that a product will work (19:00) "Consumer don't know what they like, but they like what they know" (20:30) Links mentioned in this episode: http://thatshitwillneversell.com/  Bonus: This episode was made possible by our premium members and the Deep Creativity training system.
