Today we re-air Ken's conversation with Tim Whitaker, creator of The New Evangelicals. Ken begins with some commentary on the new Rob Reiner documentary, God and Country.Ken welcomes fellow sojourner and podcaster, Tim Whitaker. Tim is "Creator and Facilitator" of The New Evangelicals, a highly popular and widely followed non-profit that sponsors podcasts and commentary that appear regularly on YouTube, Instagram, and TikToc. His productions include everything from short spots to full-length interviews, In his conversation with Ken, Tim tells his story - from home-schooled kid to drummer in a worship band to sold-out Jesus-follower to high-energy podcast host. As his view of the gospel expanded, he began to resist evangelical Trumpism and then consider the validity of Pro-Choice, then develop LGBTQ sensibilities. As a consequence, Tim's lead pastor ceremoniously dismissed him from his cherished role as lead drummer in the worship band. That moment triggered a period he calls "deconstruction." Tim brings a truthful and direct challenge to an evangelicalism that has become a voting block for right-wing political causes, election denial, conspiracy theories, Christian Nationalism, the Trump cult, and a distortion of what Tim believes to be biblical Christianity. Ken and Tim have interviewed many of the same influencers, authors, and activists including  Brad Onishi, Lisa Sharon Harper, Kristen Kobes Du Mez, Pete Enns, David Gushee, Jemar Tisby, Diana Butler Bass, and Ben Cremer. During her first year of residency, she realized her passion for taking care of women with complicated, or high-risk, pregnancies and subsequently pursued a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Masters in Medical Science at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX, where she is an Associate Professor with roles as a clinician, researcher, and educator. Who was the face that was seen through a car window late in the night? Here is a preview of the story. “I had to call the police to get him to the hospital because he wouldn't go with me alone. As it turns out we went to a behavioral hospital to admit him for the doming week for observation and medication adjustments. While I was there one day a doctor talked to my husband about how he was a survivor. He had survived Covid 19 and now carbon monoxide poisoning. The doctor told him that most people don't survive longer than 15 minutes in a running car and he had been in the car for 45 minutes and was unscathed. My husband talked to me about this conversation before I left to come home from the visitation that day and on the way home his father's face popped up just below the rear view mirror of my car (his father had been dead since 1974 and had taken his own life in a running car in the garage of their home). I hadn't even thought about his father's death before that moment. Who was the phone call from that came in late one night when everyone was asleep. Here is a preview of the story. “My first experience of anything paranormal in my adult life was when I was in my mid-20s. I had a very close friend, whose mother passed away whom I also had a very close relationship with, especially since I was shunned by my own mother after leaving the church. Her death came by surprise, she was only in her early 50s. I started having dreams of her and figured it was just me missing her…. That was until one evening I was taking a bath. I had left my phone on the sink, and I had all of the lights off with candles lit. I had my phone on silent, but I could see that it was ringing because I saw it lighting up. I ignored it because I was relaxing. When I got out of the tub, I saw a missed call on my phone. It was from my friend's mother. I got chills all over my body. I immediately texted my friend and asked her if she had her mom's phone. She said that she had it, but the battery was dead, and she thinks they had cut off service. I told her that I received a call from that number, she was in disbelief, so I sent her a screenshot to show her that it was real. What happens when one is forced to cope with a shocking loss, only to have the very person who passed, return from the grave? Here is a preview of the story. “A few years went by, and he passed away in a terrible motorcycle accident. A few days after he pasted, my wife and I thought about what we could do to try and cope with the loss. We decided to go to one of the fishing holes that he and I always fished at, in honor of him. When we pulled up, we started walking the trail that led into the woods and a couple miles down there was a small lake. As we reached the lake a giant coyote came walking out of the trees. He did not seem angry or want to mess with us. He just looked at us for a few minutes and went about his way down the shoreline. I remember my stepbrother loving coyotes, he even had a tattoo of one and right then I knew it was him giving me a sign. Fast forward to present day. That was a couple years ago now. Just the other day I was listening to your show, it was around 8 AM. I remember you and carol, and it was the episode a woman was talking about how a rainbow reminded her of someone she loved and as she is saying this, I am thinking about the time I seen the coyote. I had GPS on because I was trying reach a destination around an area I did not know very well. My GPS started rendering and saying," rerouting " " rererouting", finally it told me take a right in 100 feet. I slowed down in a panic and the safest way possible. Then it started rendering again. I was a little frustrated, so I pulled over in the nearest drive I seen. It was a large iron gate; I then exited out of GPS and opened the app back up.
