fWotD Episode 2815: Freston causewayed enclosure Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Saturday, 18 January 2025 is Freston causewayed enclosure.Freston is a Neolithic causewayed enclosure, an archaeological site near the village of Freston in Suffolk, England. Causewayed enclosures were built in England from shortly before 3700 until at least 3500 BC; they are characterised by the full or partial enclosure of an area with ditches that are interrupted by gaps, or causeways. Their purpose is not known; they may have been settlements, meeting places, or ritual sites. The Freston enclosure was first identified in 1969 from cropmarks in aerial photographs. At 8.55 ha (21.1 acres) it is one of the largest causewayed enclosures in Britain, and would have required thousands of person-days to construct. The cropmarks show an enclosure with two circuits of ditches, and a palisade that ran between the two circuits. There is also evidence of a rectangular structure in the northeastern part of the site, which may be a Neolithic longhouse or an Anglo-Saxon hall. In 2018, a group from McMaster University organized a research project focused on the site, beginning with a geophysical survey and a pedestrian survey to collect any items of archaeological interest from the surface of the site. This was followed by an excavation in 2019 which recovered some Neolithic material and obtained radiocarbon dates indicating that the site was constructed some time in the mid-4th millennium BC. Other finds included oak charcoal fragments believed to come from the palisade, and evidence of a long ditch to the southeast that probably predated the enclosure, and which may have accompanied a long barrow, a form of Neolithic burial mound. The site has been protected as a scheduled monument since 1976.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:39 UTC on Saturday, 18 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Freston causewayed enclosure on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Joanna.

Topallamaya başlayan Rossinante'a bindirdi ve yola düzüldüler.

Paul and Craig talk about Craig's newest project: his book Conscious Life Conscious Death! Transcript Transcribed by AI (not 100% accurate) [00:00:00] This is the two guys talking Fresno podcast, the podcast with two guys talking about Fresno. Your hosts are Craig sharp, a lifelong Fresno who loves his community, even though it drives him bonkers and Paul gin, a transplant Freston, who's lived in Fresno for more years than he has it. And he wouldn't live anywhere else. It's time for two guys to talk Fresno. Here's Craig and Paul on the two guys talking Fresno podcast. Paul: Here we are long time. No, see Craig. I know, Craig: but I'm wearing the same shirt today. One of those pictures, I only have two shirts. So I guess the odds are that I'd be wearing the same shirt Paul: I do too. I'm wearing my Fresno Grizzlies Like this is an old school, Fresno baseball. T-shirt from way back when, and it's perfectly comfortable. Oh, it's the perfect, [00:01:00] t-shirt perfectly Craig: new crying. You cry when you first feel that first hole or see that the seams are starting to go. Paul: Yeah, I've got a couple that I still have the hole in, but I'm still keeping them anyway because it just feels so nice to wear. So, but then with two guys talking Fresno, I can act like this is theme oriented rather than comfort, so right. Have Craig: you planned Paul: it ahead? Yes, exactly. So we haven't done a lot of podcasts lately, but here we are back and we're going to jump back into it. Craig: That's good. Yeah, we both needed a little break last year was, uh, not only COVID but politics and all that stuff. And I think we were just worn out. Paul: Yeah, I think, I think we needed that debrief time. Everybody needed that. And then it kind of ran its course. And I, I think we got through the election and that guy wasn't reelected and we all kind of yeah, Craig: yeah. [00:02:00] Until January. Paul: Yeah. It's not to say there wasn't craziness in the midst there, but, uh, and still is, but the good news is we're going to get back to talking a little bit more about Fresno. We had to talk COVID we had to talk politics and now we can talk forever. Craig: Yeah, well, we had to some of our, uh, great, uh, listeners or Watchers, you know, commenting saying more Fresno stuff, more Fresno stuff. So that was a good reminder for us. And we do listen to your comments or read your comments and, and take that to heart. And that's what we started for. So you just brought us back to where we meant. Yeah. Paul: And if people have ideas, post them on our Facebook page or send us an email through the website to guys fresno.com and let us know what you'd like for us to talk about, because we are getting back to being two guys talking about Fresno. And today, Craig, I'm really excited because we're going to talk [00:03:00] to a great Fresno author. He's fairly new to the, uh, the, the title of author, but it's been coming for quite a while, but he's very well known by presidents, Craig: right? Well, we will see you're turning the tables on me. Paul: I wrote my book. I got to be a guest on the show and today our very, very special guest is author Craig Sharpton. Welcome to the show, Craig. Craig: Thanks Paul. It's a, it's an interesting process. That's for sure. Paul: Go ahead. Craig: Well, I always, you know, I, every time someone becomes an author, I always say there's, you know, 98% of the people are working on a book and there's a few that, that actually get it to be a product. And I always admired that people. So, uh, but I've got to say, it's, it's a weird feeling. When you say you're one of them, you see your baby in [00:04:00] print. It's very strange. Isn't it? It Paul: sure is. And the book is called conscious life conscious death. It's a, that's an intriguing title for sure. Do you have it with you? Can you hold it up? Craig: I said, so lighthearted comedy, a little, Paul: little tome conscious life, conscious death.

Freston explains the health and environmental impacts of the meat and dairy industry in detail in the book and the facts shares here will make anyone think twice before eating a hamburger. But being "veganish" instead of perfectly vegan is a great step for the environment, providing a greater positive impact on an annual basis than switching to an electric vehicle. We also discuss meat and dairy addiction mechanisms that tap into human opiate receptors to make cravings almost unbearable for some people, and Freston recommends adopting a plant-based meat alternative that contains heme proteins, which mimic the iron-rich components of meat and blood without the negative health consequences. There's also plenty to worry about in a pescatarian diet, Freston warns. Not only is the world's fish population expected to collapse by 2048 if current practices continue, the bodies of wild fish are shot through with plastic, mercury and pharmaceuticals that can harm our bodies. But the conversation is not all about bad news. Making the switch to plant-based eating can improve our health, mental acuity, and the planet. On today's Talk Of The Town -An Ipswich Town F.C podcastNeil returns from his mini week off. Just what did the Nort stander do with his time off? The answermay well surprise you. The second Talk of The Town Mitchell brother Rob Davies also makes his return this week. Just how did his scouting trip for Ipswich Town F.C go up north? Did he find any talent? He certainly went to a gameand managed to increase his #92 club stadiums number.Together the three of us take a look at the weekend's action as Ipswich Town F.C returned to winning ways. ITFC made the shorttrip up to Roots Hall the home of Southend F.C in what is a mini local derby in the EFL League 1competition. It turned out well for Ipswich Town F.C as we managed to secure a 3-1 victory thanks to goals fromJames Norwood x2 and Kayden Jackson. As always the team was backed by a good following of ITFC fans with over 1000 tickets and two stands taken up just by the Ipswich Town faithful making the trip from Portman Road. We take a look at Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert's decision to return to a 4-4-2. Was it the right call with the players at his disposal? Or is the Ipswich Town manager tinkering just too much? We discuss the return of Flynn Downes to the ITFC team and just how much of a big player he has been for the boys from Portman Road in this year's EFL League 1 competition.Meanwhile, in mixed fortunes for the Ipswich Town faithful, James Norwood returned and grabbed two goals adding to his Ipswich Town account. While sadly ex Colchester Utd player Kane Vincent-Young hobbled off and may face a lengthy spell sat in the stands with the Ipswich Town F.C fans. We discussed how do you replacea player such as Kane Vincent-Young in this Ipswich Town side.Following the appointment

Long before it was trendy, there was a lone woman on Oprah touting the benefits of veganism and getting Oprah to try it. I remember that episode of Oprah like it was yesterday. That episode was one of five or six cues that registered in my brain and whispered, Elysabeth you should be vegan.  That singular voice that day on Oprah was New York Times Best Selling author, health and wellness expert, Kathy Freston.  She has been talking about the benefits of a plant-based diet for people, our planet and our animals for almost a decade.  Kathy has written Clean Protein: The Revolution that Will Reshape Your Body, Boost Your Energy-and Save Our Planet, The Lean: A Revolutionary (and Simple!) 30-Day Plan for Healthy, Lasting Weight Loss, Veganist: Lose Weight, Get Healthy, Change the World, The Quantum Wellness Cleanse: The 21 Day Essential Guide to Healing Your Body, Mind, and Spirit, and Quantum Wellness: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Health and Happiness…and these titles are just to name a few.  Now, sitting in my kitchen and chatting as if we had known each other for years, Kathy clues us in to the best ways to talk to those who aren’t yet vegan and how to make it as easy on them as possible. Vegan-ish?  Sure, why not! Along the way, we discuss the changing cultural zeitgeist around plant-based food and our planet that is in dire need.  To this end, Kathy has just delivered a petition of over 200,000 signatures to the McDonald’s Hamburger Univeristy Headquarters in Chicago demanding a vegan burger.  Hundreds of thousands of people want MckyDs to have a MckyV.  If you agree, head to social media and tag me,Elysabeth Alfano, Kathy Freston and McDonald's and let them know you want a MckyV. Plus, Kathy lets us in on a little secret called the Veto Vote. What is it and do you have it? Upbeat and natural, informative and friendly, this is one episode of Awesome Vegans that will make you feel like you’ve had Kathy Freston as a pal forever. Medicine Unboxed 2015 MORTALITY looked at life and death and the lines that separate them. We will marvel at how molecules are arranged into life and examine other beginnings and endings, of the universe and how all nature folds and unfolds in time. We will wonder about time. We will hear the sounds of loss and grief and recovery and how death is felt in war, in hospital, in our homes and fields. We will see medicine’s hand raised against death and suffering and explore its duties to the living and dying. We will ask what a life costs and what it is worth. We will look at social and cultural differences in the experience of death, how immortality is conceived in mythology and sought in technology, our pursuit of the afterlife, and how fact and imagination meet in our encounter with death.
