“AI technologies are definitely maturing, and more and more communications providers and technology developers are using AI to enhance their solutions,” says Elka Popova VP and Senior Fellow for Connected Work Research, at Frost and Sullivan. “I think at the moment most of the AI-powered innovation that we're seeing is in contact center, more specifically contact center as a service, and to some extent in cloud meetings. There is, however, huge potential to continue to enhance voice communications, analytics tools, and other parts of kind of the broader business communication space using AI technologies. And I think the onus is on the vendor community to figure out which AI-powered features and capabilities need to be table stakes and provided to customers free of charge and just kind of used to create customer value but not necessarily create revenues.” Popova will be one of the featured panel members on a session labelled: Forecasting the Cloudscape: Navigating Present Realities and Future Horizons of Communications, UCaaS, CCaaS, CPaaS, Security: Crafting the Ultimate Collaboration Suite for Revenue Growth. Popova's work focusses on UCaaS, Collaboration and the Future of Work. She has spoken and participated in CCA events and is widely respected expert on these markets and trends. “And then there will be other features and capabilities that will have to be offered at a premium. And once the vendors monetize these capabilities, I think this will kind of elevate the industry to a different level.” Visit frost.com Visit CloudCommunications.com Register for show at https://www.cloudcommunications.com/events/cloud-connections-2024

In this episode of the Talking Transformation Podcast we change our geography considerably, from a South African context, to the Arabinan Peninsula and Persian Gulf region. Our guest is Mahmood Al-Wahaibi an urban planner, ethnographer and academic who heads up OTU: the Oman Think Urban. The OTU is a Think Tank that blends urban ethnography and planning methodologies to support community engagement and research impacting on a number of the major planning initiatives in Oman. It comes at a time when Oman is looking to transition its economy away from a heavy emphasis on oil and commodities to a more diverse economy where tourism and emphasis on service sector industries are championing that transition. Based out of Muscat, the Capital City of Oman, Mahmood and I met in person a year ago when we both supported the Greater Muscat Structure Plan (GMSP). The GMSP is a fascinating case study in addressing a sprawling, low-density capital city that is bracing for significant changes in its spatial, economic, social and environmental character. It doesn't seek to address the transition and growth in the manner and style of Dubai or Dohar. Muscat's is arguably a more humble approach, that seeks to balance, on the one hand, the preservation and celebration of the heritage of an ancient city with the ambitions, on the other hand, to meet the demands of a modern and competitive economy and metropolitan city. The implications for mobility modes, migration patterns and existential issues of environmental and sustainability issues have been key considerations in the GMSP. Mahmood was the consummate host in a country and region I knew nothing about. I was curious about the region, the history, the opportunities and the transitions that were driving change in his home town and country. Many of the challenges we face here in South Africa are echoed in the GMSP but these are being tackled in a different way and with very different expectations and resourcing for infrastructure and partnerships. I hope you'll enjoy the conversation and reflections from the episode. The fifth episode of Future Horizons explores women's contribution to defence and the important role women are playing on the Tempest programme, as well as the ways in which the engineers working on Tempest are exploring new avenues of green tech innovation. Women in the War with Lucy Fisher Last month we celebrated women working across the Tempest programme, as part of International Women in Engineering Day. The contribution of women in defence and the transformation of women's roles during World War II are explored in a new book 'Women in the War'. We speak to award-winning journalist Lucy Fisher, deputy political editor of The Daily Telegraph and previously defence editor of The Times, who has written a vivid exploration of how the Second World War changed the lives of a group of ten remarkable women, captured in her new book ‘Women in the War'. In their own words, the surviving women of the Second World War spoke directly to Lucy about how they managed to innovate and use their intellectual and emotional resources to turn around what must have felt like insurmountable situations. Lucy also shares her thoughts on the role women are playing in today's Tempest programme. When his son Alex was diagnosed with autism, he joined the Autism Society of America, and became its president in 1987. Alex was 15 when the first edition of Wayne Gilpin’s lighthearted self-published book was released in 1993, Laughing & Loving with Autism: A Collection of “Real Life” Warm & Humorous Stories. The 500 copies he conservatively printed sold out in just 3 days. He founded Future Horizons in 1996, dedicated to publishing books relating to autism, and by now they have published over 140 books as well a truly excellent bi-monthly magazine, Autism Asperger’s Digest. Future Horizons organizes educational autism conferences all over the globe, featuring renowned speakers and experts such as Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Tony Attwood, Dr. Jed Baker, Jennifer McIlwee Myers, and Dr. James Ball.
