It's been revealed someone walked into an accident and emergency department in Kent every 23 seconds in November. The number of people waiting more than 12 hours to be admitted to a ward has also risen. In the three months from September, it was more than 4,000 patients - compared to just over 500 during the same period last year. It comes as the government's urging us not to take unnecessary risks today, as thousands of ambulance staff go out on strike. Paramedics and call handlers here in Kent are among those walking out in a dispute over pay and working conditions. The army's been drafted in to help out as NHS leaders warn they cannot guarantee the safety of patients. We spoke to Murray Robinson from the GMB union - who was out on the picket line at Medway Ambulance Station. Our other top stories, and investigations are underway following the death of a man in Sittingbourne. The victim was found with stab wounds at a property off College Road in the early hours of this morning. The future of one of Medway's oldest pubs is uncertain after the landlord announced he was calling time on New Year's Eve. John Brice has run The King George 5th in Brompton for the past 20 years - he's been telling us why he's decided to shut. The MP for Dartford's described an expansion of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone to the border of Kent as 'the most unfair, undemocratic form of taxation this country has ever seen'. From next August, motorists using older vehicles will have to pay a charge to drive into all 33 of the capital's boroughs. It's part of efforts to cut air pollution. But during a debate in Westminster Hall, Gareth Johnson said it would be financially damaging for residents and the economy, and accused Mayor Sadiq Khan of just trying to make money. And, in football, Gillingham have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing 2-0 to Premier League side Wolves in the fourth round. Gills manager Neil Harris spoke to us after the match.

A doctor in Poland almost immediately realised she had endometriosis which affects the ovaries - hear from her and our reporter who covered the story. Also in today's podcast, there's been a sharp rise in the number of households in need of emergency housing in Kent's most deprived district. A total of 542 people in Thanet have had to be given the support during the last financial year - that's almost double than the previous one. Chris Thomas from homelessness charity Porchlight warns of a "crisis" this winter. The Home Secretary says it's becoming incredibly difficult to find accommodation for asylum seekers who are crossing the Channel in small boats. A controversial processing site in Thanet has now been cleared following concerns about overcrowding and poor conditions. Suella Braverman's been giving evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee in Parliament. The MP for Dartford has called for Just Stop Oil to be classified as a criminal organisation. Gareth Johnson's spoken out in the Commons after two men climbed the Dartford Crossing last month as part of a climate protest. The winter season is officially under way for the people who make sure our roads are clear of frost and snow over the next few months. The KentOnline Podcast's been told how almost 120 gritters are on standby along with more than 63,000 tonnes of salt.  We've been chatting with Matt Salt from National Highways. And in football, hear from manager Neil Harris following Gillingham's draw at Crawley Town. It means the Gills have been unable to climb out of the League Two relegation zone.

EPISODE SUMMARY: In Episode 107 of The Business Equation, I sit down with Luke Van Der Veer to talk about Rank & Rent SEO. What is it, how does it work, how can it help you generate leads for your business, and how can you tap into Luke's expertise on the subject and work with him directly? We also talk about how virtual assistants (VAs) can help your business thrive as well.ABOUT LUKE: Luke Van Der Veer received an MBA in Human Resources and, right out of grad school, landed a highly sought-after position at General Electric as a Benefits Analyst. Although his family and friends congratulated him on getting a job with such a prestigious company, he hated it. Only one week into working at GE, he was already searching for a way to escape the corporate 9-to-5 grind. He tried it all—affiliate marketing, network marketing, Facebook advertising and even selling products on eBay and Amazon. Although he got one of his side hustles up to $35K a month, he was still working seven days a week and reinvesting the money to grow his business. That's when he came across a lead generation method called "Rank & Rent SEO" and spent thousands of dollars and months of his time refining the most effective system. By the six-month mark, he had entirely replaced his full-time income, finally quit his job at GE and has never looked back. One of his students, a concrete contractor, earns more than $20K a month from a single lead generation website.Learn more about Luke and the Rank & Rent SEO approach at websiterentalcoaching.comQuestions for Nick? EPISODE SUMMARY: In Episode 106 of The Business Equation, I'm joined by Riggs Eckelberry, CEO of OriginClear, for a great conversation about how Riggs and his company are using innovation and cutting-edge technology to execute their operations AND pay their investors. We also dig into Riggs' professional history and learn about how he arrived at OriginClear.ABOUT RIGGS: Riggs Eckelberry, a tech pioneer at the intersection of water & crypto. He is the founder and CEO of the innovative water technology company, OriginClear, which is delivering water solutions for industrial customers worldwide. OriginClear has developed and licensed an invention that treats industrial and agricultural waste water with very little energy, and no chemicals. And now, industrial users can treat their water right where they use it, using prepackaged “point of use” water treatment systems that have an amazing life cycle of up to 100 years or more. Washington is frantically allocating billions upon billions to water infrastructure funding. But, says Riggs Eckelberry, fast-growing inflation will kill all these massive programs. Sure, they'll add the cost overruns. But you can't keep up with a runaway train. Riggs has the solution: direct, local, decentralized action. His prefab, modular water systems can be delivered directly to industry with no money upfront, just pay by the gallon, on long- term contracts that are indexed for inflation. Here's the twist: Riggs intends to pay investors their continuing profit shares in Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). Given the 50-year plus lifecycles of these systems, he expects a huge premium on these NFTs, and they will be tradeable. Riggs predicts this could scale up into the first global water marketplace, potentially supporting subsidized projects in poverty-stricken areas. Is this science fiction? Ask Riggs and find out. Riggs was once a happy tech executive. In 2005, he helped take a security software company public as its president. Then, he pitched a fund and─long story short─Riggs ended up as CEO of a small public company working to disrupt industrial water, a huge, but slow-moving trillion- dollar global market. Riggs is uniquely qualified to disrupt this industry, having learned management in the nonprofit space, captained oceangoing ships, and achieved several tech exits during the dot-com boom.Connect with Riggs and learn more about OriginClear at originclear.comQuestions for Nick? It may seem logical to hire based on talent alone, but if a new team member does not align with your core values and the culture you've worked so hard to build, the potential for friction and issues throughout your organization immediately becomes more prevalent. If you hire someone because their values align with yours, the probability of them staying with you long-term AND helping your business grow is much higher. You can train them on specific tasks you want them to excel in and give them space to grow into their position, but it's harder to do that when someone marches to the beat of their own drum.In Episode 88 of The Business Equation Podcast, I'm joined by none other than David Finberg, the founder of Peaks Digital Marketing and a successful entrepreneur who transitioned from life as a car mechanic to that of company owner and marketing expert. David built Peaks Digital by hiring the right people for his organization and has proven that onboarding around culture and values can lead to positive results. In addition to David sharing how he built Peaks Digital, we also talk about the undeniable value Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has in today's marketplace, some basic strategies and approaches you can implement to leverage the power of SEO, the mindset you need to transition from the traditional career path to business ownership, and much more.MORE ABOUT DAVID: David Finberg has been building websites since the age of 9 and decided to go all-in on the digital marketing industry in 2015 when he founded Peaks Digital Marketing. Since then, he's generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue and has a passion for growing small businesses and corporations through data-driven ROI-centered strategies. As a "Digital Sherpa" for his clients, David helps guide them on the best online path for the success of their business. Unlocking the Lessons Within 'Think and Grow Rich' w/ Jim Shorkey

EPISODE SUMMARY: If you've been a long time listener of The Business Equation, you know how powerful positive mindset can be. With it, you have real, genuine opportunity to accomplish big things. Without it, you don't. That may seem like a dumbed-down explanation, but it's the truth. If you go after anything with the mindset that you can't win and can't make it happen, then negative results are what you'll achieve. But go after those same goals with a positive mindset that allows you to visualize your outcome and manifest the best results coming to you, and you put yourself in a much better position to succeed.Throughout my entire entrepreneurial journey, no book has impacted me more than Napoleon Hill's 'Think and Grow Rich.' This classic was published in 1937(!!) and the lessons found within still hold true today. But don't just take my word for it. Listen to some past episodes of The Business Equation and you'll hear Think and Grow Rich referenced multiple times by other successful entrepreneurs and professionals who've joined me to share their plight. As this episode of The Business Equation goes live, I've read Think and Grow Rich 22 times. That may seem like a lot, but each time I dig into the text, I learn something new. And, 22 times is nothing compared to my guest on today's show! In Episode 84 of The Business Equation Podcast, I'm joined by the one and only Jim Shorkey. Jim is the former owner of the Jim Shorkey Auto Group in Pittsburgh, PA, a company he inherited from his father in the early 90s, grew successfully thanks to the lessons he learned from Think and Grow Rich, and passed on to his children who have grown the company even bigger. To date, Jim has read Think and Grow Rich 144 times!Today, Jim is retired and leads a mentoring group known as Results From Thinking, an outlet that allows him to share stories of positive mindset with professionals young and old.In our conversation today, Jim and I will break down various lessons found within the front and back covers of Think and Grow Rich. From imagination to definiteness of purpose to autosuggestion to faith to passion, our discussion was one that truly brings Napoleon Hill's words to life. Did we agree on everything? Of course not! And that's OK. It made for great radio! We also get into some great business talk, including the power of strong negotiation skills, when it's the right time to expand your business, when the 'right deal' is 'no deal at all,' and much, much more. You can connect with Jim and learn more about what he's up to by checking out his mentoring group at resultsfromthinking.com.Questions for Nick? EPISODE SUMMARY: Many great businesses were born because someone had the courage to build a business around something they truly believed in. Their passion for their product, service, or mission allowed these entrepreneurs to build a healthy, sustainable enterprise that opened up doors of opportunity never before seen. Likewise, some of the greatest businesses in the world came from the basis of need. Someone realized there was a lack of something important at their disposal, had the forward-thinking to conclude others were probably experiencing the same pain, and developed a business that helped solve the problem. Servicing a need, combined with savvy business practices and a strong understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, can lead to an incredibly successful business that will stand the test of time.In Episode 71 of The Business Equation Podcast, Nick Bogacz is joined by Sean Castrina, a successful entrepreneur who has started and/or sold over 20 businesses in his career. He is currently operating eight thriving companies in multiple niches, all built on the premise of filling a void in the marketplace that Sean himself experienced as a customer. In this episode, Nick and Sean dive into how Sean got his start, how to build your own professional "cabinet" of resources, mentors, and other important people that will help you grow, why building a business based on need rivals a business based on passion alone, how Sean deals with over-demanding clients, and much, much more. You can connect with Sean and pick up a free copy of his book, 8 Unbreakable Rules For Business Start-Up Success, by visiting seancastrina.com today!Questions for Nick?
