On June 14, Reuters published an article about the US Military's clandestine program to discredit China's Sinovac vaccine during the early days of Covid-19. Turns out the Pentagon hired an outside agency to purposefully spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about the Chinese inoculation program by flooding social media with anti-vax propaganda. It was a smack in the face for anyone—including us—who's been calling for sound public health measures over the last four years. And it very likely killed people in Southeast Asia. This week, we look at the harrowing reporting that revealed a shameful, interventionary program that began under the Trump administration and persisted at least a few months into the Biden presidency. We'll also review the very few conspiritualists that have even covered the story—somewhat surprising, given that a good ol' government conspiracy is their bread and butter. But what happens when anti-vaxxers are confronted with a government-led anti-vax program, enacted by the same military that some of them, like RFK Jr, want to drastically reduce? Let's find out. The Casualties of Cyber War: Exploring the Colonial Pipeline Shutdown

If a cyber attack can take down an entire pipeline, what's next? As news from the recent attack on Colonial Pipeline continues to develop, owners and operators, the U.S. government and the public continue to question the dangerous implications behind our critical infrastructure lacking the proper cybersecurity against dangerous hackers.  "20 years ago, if you wanted to attack operational technology (OT) or an industrial control system you had to specifically target it," says Dr. Dennis Hackney, Head of Cybersecurity Services Development. "Now, all you have to do is look and see where a connection exists between the information technology (IT) and OT environments.""Oil and gas [industries] have historically underinvested in cybersecurity," says Kyriakos "Rock" Lambros, cyber expert and CEO and Founder of RockCyber, LLC. "While OT systems are being targeted, most of the impact that we're seeing are casualties of war. The IT side of the house is targeted and then the ransomware moves laterally throughout the network because there aren't good controls in place."Tune in as host Ian Bramson dives into the minds of cybercriminals like DarkSide and discusses how this historic event will impact industrial operations and new cyber regulations moving forward. This week I've called up another member of the DC Cupcake Brigade. Michelle Strah's business card (@cyberslate) says "Manager, Information Systems at General Dynamics Information Technology". While that might seem intense, (and believe me, it is) this means she is in the trenches with government's move toward transparency and open data. Her work deals specifically with Veterans Affairs but the principles we discuss can be applied to the public and private sectors equally. There's a lot of content to get to, but I learned a lot during this recording. Hopefully you will too. Enjoy.PS.
