Hello and welcome to the Monday Breakfast show for the 2nd of June 2025.On today's show: Headlines: Woodside North West Shelf Gas extension approvedIsraeli forces open fire on Palestinians waiting for aid. Segments: - Conversation with Micheal Smith, an ecologist and conservation teacher speaking about the impacts planned burns have on forests biodiversity, and endangered animal habitats. To support the organisations mentioned go to kinglakefriendsoftheforest.com and wotch.org.au - CFMEU members have been part of an industrial dispute at the Golden Plains Wind Farm Project in Rokewood, Victoria since the 22nd of May. When complete the site would be the biggest wind farm on the continent of Australia, producing enough energy to power more than 765,000 homes. The CFMEU has been negotiating with Danish company BMS since December, however talks have soured as BMS refuses to reach an agreement which would enshrine industry standards. As a result, members of the CFMEU at Golden Plains have been undertaking stoppages each day — initially for 4 hours from the 22nd of May, 6 hours from last week, and potentially eight hour stoppages this week. The Monday Breakfast show was joined by Jake Sutherland, CFMEU delegate to speak about the action. Listeners are encouraged to share posts about the action on social media and attend the picket in Rokewood if able. - Tiny Sparks and Turning Points, a bulletin from our good friends at the Commons Social Change Library, bringing us some radical events over the years that changed this country. This feature is looking at the month of June over our collective history, and will come to listeners on the first Monday of every month, at 8AM. Explore the archive created by Commons Social Change Library here. - Musician Rin McArdle who has been in contact with Saif Al-Shaqawi in Gaza for the past 52 days joins the show to tell us about Saif's experiences in Palestine during Israel's genocidal assault on the country. Saif is one of countless Palestinians who has had their lives irrevocably changed by the Israeli occupation and Rin is involved in fundraising to help Saif and his family do what they can to survive the ongoing brutality. And if you haven't seen this little clip, this guy was sleeping for a couple of hours. Over in the UK, wakes up, asks his neighbor, Hey, are we there yet? And she turns and says, no, we haven't left. We recently had that happen to us coming back from San Diego, where I took a nap, and I swear, it must have been an hour and a half later, we hadn't moved. And I don't, I think Rosemary, you've been on some really long flights too. Are you getting stuck on the ground for some of these flights? Rosemary Barnes: It is so annoying when you're stuck on the ground, like before you've got a, I don't know, an 18 hour flight or whatever to get stuck on the ground for hours. And you're like, we're not even, we're not even progressing. It's really hard to deal with mentally. But they do often make it up because obviously they can, they don't fly as fast as they can around the world all the time. They fly in the way that's most fuel, more fuel efficient. So sometimes they can burn a bit more fuel to get you there faster. If they, yeah, if there's an economic reason for them to they're going to have to, pay some penalties or hold a, of the next flight for people who are, yeah, need to transfer. Joel Saxum: You could have been on a flight like Allen and I were. Where, we were supposed to board at 4pm, we didn't end up boarding until 9pm, and then once we boarded, and everybody got settled down and we were ready to push back from the gate, then they informed us that the pilots had timed out on their daily time limit, so they Did we all off boarded and then had to get moved to flights the next day. Philip Totaro: I once fell asleep on a train in Switzerland that eventually led me to being escorted out of the country. It can happen. Allen Hall: Welcome to the Uptime Wind Energy Podcast. I'm Allen Hall and here's this week's headlines. Vestas has received a massive 577 megawatt order from Tag Energy to supply wind turbines for the second stage of the landmark 1. gigawatt Golden Plains onshore wind project in Australia. Vestas will deliver 93 of their megawatt turbines during the first quarter of 2025 with commissioning expected in 2026. Vestas is currently working on the first stage of the project that will utilize 122 of the V162 6. 2 megawatt machines. When completed, the Golden Plains site will be Vestas largest onshore wind farm to date. Vestas has also secured a 660 megawatt order from RWE for the Nord Sea Cluster A offshore wind project in Germany. A delivery of the 44 15 megawatt turbines is expected in 2026. Vestas will also service the turbines under a five year agreement followed by an operational support agreement. Meanwhile in the U. We're beyond thrilled to welcome French house music pioneers Alan Braxe & DJ Falcon who share with us with their recent set from Golden Plains Festival! Fasten your seatbelts for a high-octane genre bending encounter, packed with plenty of cult French house classics mixed with the duo's signature blend of indie pop, disco and techno with some special edits they made just for the set. @braxe1 + @djfalconofficial Q. What inspiration did you both draw upon when planning for this set at Golden Plains? How would you describe the feeling in the crowd, and what kind of a story were you hoping to tell with the music that night? Alan Braxe: Weeks before playing at Golden Plains many people and friends told us this one is going to be special, you'll love it! So we were very excited. When we arrived on the site we immediately felt very good energy with a big crowd focusing on the music. All these lights everywhere made it quite unreal, a bit like in a fairy tale. When we played we tried to be quite eclectic covering a wide range of the music we like. We even prepared some special edits backstage before the set when we realized how good the atmosphere was. DJ Falcon: As Alain said we were already excited to play there as we had tonnes of great feedback from our Australian mates weeks before the show. We knew this festival was going to suit us well as we're constantly flirting with pop, rock and electronic music. Honestly we simply play the music we love and tell a little bit of our story, some of our French classics combined with a selection of tracks we like from the moment. Q. What were some of your favourite moments from this particular set, and how do you guys find the right balance between the nostalgic classics and the newer French house sounds when preparing for your sets together? AB: As said above we love to play eclectic with a bit of techno, house, French house, indie pop, we don't really prepare the set, it's more an improvisation based on our respective selections. It doesn't really matter to us if the music is new or made 20 years ago, it's more about playing tracks we love 100%. My fave moment was probably when I played the 1st track “I Saw” by Young Fathers that I edited a few minutes before the set. On stage, when I saw this very enthusiastic crowd, I felt like wow we have full freedom to play whatever we want. DJF: Favorite moment, for me, is when you arrive at the place and you instantly know that you're gonna have a good time. Also after 10/15 mins of our set we were able to know that the audience is super receptive, that's a good satisfaction for us. Talking about the right balance between classics and newer tracks is mainly dictated by the energy of the audience. I feel like we're simply going with the flow, we're somehow just some kind of energy sensor… Q. Now having completed this long awaited Australia tour, how did you find the experience of returning to the country after so many years, this time as a duo, and where are you hoping to take the Braxe + Falcon project next? AB: It's been a very pleasant tour, we did other festivals with also a very positive reaction from the people, touring as a duo is also very exciting as there is this common excitement backstage before playing, and also my son is now living in Sydney so I had the chance to spend a lot of time with him. Next for us is studio time to release more music, our next single is set to be released on July 10th on Smugglers Way / Domino, and there will be more to come later in 2024.

"So I'll start by saying these tracks are not really about love. They're about the love that I have for the tracks and memories from times of love. I can explain..." Alone Again Or - Love (1967) > This is the title track from one of my favourite albums ever (Forever Changes). Good way to start a mix I think. December Angel - Syrinx (1970) > Got deep into this around a time of my life that I look back on very fondly. Boadicea - Enya (1986) > I just really love Enya. I wrote her name in white-out on my school bag in year 8. Rachel's Song - Vangelis (1994) > This one's from Blade Runner. It gives me goosebumps. Doina Lui Petru Unc (Alternate) - Gheorghe Zampfir (1976) > The haunting theme song from Picnic at Hanging Rock, probably my favourite film? I love this so much. Miracles - Jefferson Starship (1975) > I got pretty obsessed with Woodstock recently. Jefferson Starship didn't actually play this there 'cause it was written a few years later but maybe it embodies the spirit of what I imagine Woodstock would have been like? Magnificent. Woodstock - Matthews Southern Comfort (1970) > Joni Mitchell wrote this one, but this is the version I love the most. I enjoy those warm, hippy harmonies. Summer Wine - Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood (1966) > I have always loved this song--further reinforced by my two singer friends who did this as a karaoke duet late one night and I almost wept. Long, Long, Long - The Beatles > George is my favourite Beatle. He wrote this one, and most of the best Beatles tracks IMHO. Shek Tamar - RAS (2020) > Some more dreamy harmonies, and a smooth groove that hooks ya Hilversum - Al Usher (2010) > What I like about this one is I DJ it a lot and it seems to work in lots of situations. It's just a nice-sounding track and reminds me of my friend Gus Franklin. As The World Falls Down - David Bowie (1986) > I grew up watching The Labyrinth A LOT and I don't think I really reconciled/made sense of the feelings I had for The Goblin King (Bowie) so now it's just this song that makes my soul ache. Dreamboat Annie - Heart (1975) > I love this album; again it reminds me of a good time in my life where I lived with my best friend and we listened to this a lot and sometimes we pretended we were Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart. Transcendance - Santana (1977) > More to Santana than you might think. Transcendance makes you feel like you can fly. A Rainbow in Curved Air - Terry Riley (1969) > Ok so this one is pretty out there but wow, imagine how this would have blown peoples' minds in 1969? Psychedelic electronica at its roots that paved the way for so many others following. Behind The Mask - Yellow Magic Orchestra (1978) > My spirit is in Japan, and YMO embody everything that I love about Japanese music and culture. Views of The Rhine - Kevin Harrison (1982) > There's cosmic energy, light and hope in this one. Love that vibe. How Does It Make You Feel? - Air (2001) > I guess I am nostalgic because this reminds me of another happy time in my life, when I listened to this album (10,000 Hertz Legend) a lot. It reminds me of my friend Ben Browning. Time - Pachanga Boys (2011) > Ok, so I like deep, psychedelic, introspective tracks. This sums that up pretty well. Andee Frost played it as his final track at Golden Plains in 2014. It was really something. Long one…. Stay with it. "I'm working on feeling more comfortable telling my friends that I love them, ‘cause I do. Love isn't something that should be reserved just for your partner, or family. It's bigger than that."

This is a very unique episode recorded in a shipping container at Golden Plains music festival with Ben 'Tuffy' Lee. Plus a bonus poem from Emilie Zoey Baker recorded at Fairfield Boathouse. We start the conversation by talking about Tuffy's band The Dirty Bloods and what lead him to getting to the place where he would start his own band in his 40's. Many thanks to Ela Fornalska for being our MTAW Muse of the Week! Ela supplied the prompt 'Firsts', for which I wrote this poem. FIRSTS. My first kiss was at midnight on a boat shed deck on a Mornington Beach. She made me listen to Echo and the Bunnymen’s ‘Killing Moon’ on her Walkman. The headphones dropped from my head as she kissed me into oblivion. My first taste of marijuana was from a bucket bong in a rock and roll St Kilda share house. A baptism of THC fire. My first punch I ever received was at 15 years old playing football for Beleura against Dromana. I tried to wrestle him away from a teammate who he was also punching and then he turned around and punched me directly in the face. It’s true you really do see stars. My first sex was in a bedroom in Seaford while her mother baked cookies in the kitchen. To this day the smell of freshly baked cookies produces a Pavlovian tingle in my loins. My first time in a plane was flying to Mexico on a one way ticket with my girlfriend who I would marry three years later. We broke up 18 months later and divorced. She held my hand tightly as the plane took off. My first breakup was in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens on a clear bright sunny day. Which lead to the second and last time I was punched as she pummelled my chest with her fists while tears streamed down her face. My first record I ever owned was the Beach Boys Greatest Hits, a birthday present from my parents. My first record I ever bought with my own money was Pat Benatar live. Because I was in love with her and certain we would marry one day. Love is a battlefield. My first car was a 1965 Bottle Green Hillman Minx. I drove it all the way home from the sellers house with the hand brake still on and was terrified that I had ruined it. I hadn’t. I also used to keep a bunch of plastic flowers spread across the dash board because I wanted to be Morrissey. My first has never been my first because everything has happened before and will happen again. For Whelan and Stealin' Tuffy reads some of the lyrics of And the Ass Said to the Angel: "Wanna' Play Kick to Kick?" and Fosters Car Boogie from TISM. I read a poem by Matt Cook called James Joyce, that I first heard on a CD called The United States of Poetry created by the amazing Bob Holman. You can see the film clip for James Joyce right here. Lastly we hear from the wonderful Emilie Zoey Baker with a bonus poem recorded by the river at Fairfield Boat House. Emilie's poem is inspired by the song Alphabet Aerobics by Blackalicious, especially Daniel Radcliffe's mindblowing cover of it on Jimmy Fallon. Thank you as always to our generous supporters Luxe Country and Castaway Studios. (Sean M) Whelan, out.

Developing skills early in her career as a booker and artist manager, it didn’t take long for Merve to get behind the decks herself, gaining some serious traction with her infectious sets that encompass elements of house, funk, tribal and techno. This earned her stage time alongside industry icons like The Black Madonna, and Motor City Drum Ensemble. Having played at some of Australia’s most iconic festivals such as Golden Plains, Strawberry Fields, and Let Them Eat Cake, Merve is certainly one of Melbourne’s most exciting rising stars.
