Did you know that standing tall doesn't just make you look confident—it can actually boost your immune system? It's true. When your body is aligned the way it's meant to be, you open up pathways that let things flow smoothly inside. And one of the biggest winners? Your lymphatic system.Think of it as your body's own personal clean-up crew, fighting off viruses, bacteria, and other unwanted junk.Good posture keeps your lymph moving, helping that crew do its job like pros. Now, slouching, on the other hand, can slow things down. It's like having a team ready to clean, but they're stuck in traffic.Your immune system can't work as well when your alignment is off.So, yes… good posture doesn't just look good. It's great for your health too!Want to test it out?Try this today: roll your shoulders back, lift your chest, and imagine a string pulling you up from the top of your head.Hold it for a minute.Feel the difference? It's that simple.Little things like this, done daily, can keep you feeling strong and energized.Remember, stand tall, stay healthy, and give your body's clean-up crew a clear path.Your immune system will thank you.Until we talk again, move well, stay healthy, be happy, find your purpose and live with passion. The 5% Club is a reader-supported publication. If we are sincere with ourselves, we would agree that we tend to sit hunched over, staring down at our computer or phone most of the time. This is truly harmful to our posture and impacts our physical and mental health. We should all make an effort to sit up straighter, especially when tackling a difficult task because our posture does not just affect our bodies but also touches our brains. Posture has a wide-ranging effect on our well-being, both physical and mental. Have you heard of the famous saying, “Stand strong, look like a winner?” I am sure most of us have heard similar encouraging statements but could not understand what they mean. Research shows that posture plays a critical role in how we present ourselves to the world. How Maintaining Good Posture Can Boost Your Confidence.   Good posture helps boost your confidence: Any time you stand up straight, you automatically feel more confident and assertive. This happens because good posture engages your core muscles, which helps to stabilize your spine and improve your balance. This, in turn, makes you feel more secure and confident in your body. It helps command attention: If you are a leader or working in a professional setting, standing up straight helps project confidence through your posture, making people more likely to pay attention to and take you seriously. Good posture makes you look more attractive and approachable: People with good posture are more confident and approchable than those with poor posture. This is because good posture makes you look more open and approachable, which can appeal to other people. Studies show that sitting up straight can invite conversation and even compliments, while someone hunching over a screen sends the message that they don't want to be approached. Improved clarity: Did you know that good posture can significantly improve your clarity? Good posture increases the flow of oxygen to the brain, generating clarity. With good clarity, we are able to focus better and apply ourselves. Therefore, whenever you feel low, it would help to sit or stand upright to improve your mind. How to Create a More Confident Posture From nailing your leadership to interview, check out some of the postures to help improve your confidence! Keep Your Chin Up: During conversations, always keep your head up, whether you are waiting or while you present. This helps create a positive, confident image. Also, ensure you straighten your whole body by standing up tall with a straight spine and rolled-back shoulders to show poise. Make Eye Contact: Making and maintaining direct eye contact with the people you speak to shows you are sure of yourself and ready to tackle any conversation. Avoid Fidgeting: Keep fidgeting to a minimum. If you are used to playing with your hands, fiddling with your glass or key, or pulling at your clothes, try to stop. Fidgeting can be distracting to those around you and show signs of anxiety. Good posture is significant in projecting confidence and authority, improving physical health, and making a positive impression on others. This session focuses on opening up the shoulders and chest, areas that often tighten due to our daily activities. I'll guide you through some poses to help counteract the effects of slouching from computer work, driving, and even the way we sleep. Together, we'll strengthen the back muscles, which is key to pulling those shoulders back and maintaining better posture. 00:00:02 -- Introduction and Motivation We start with an understanding of why today's practice is important. Like many of you, I've struggled with slouching, especially from spending long hours at the computer or behind the wheel. These habits lead to tight shoulders and a chest that tends to collapse inward. 00:01:34 -- Importance of Back Strength Next, we talk about the need to strengthen our back muscles. I explain how exercises like rowing or even weightlifting can help. A strong back naturally pulls your shoulders back into alignment, preventing that forward hunch and the tightening of the chest muscles. 00:04:25 -- Restorative Yoga Pose: Fish Pose (Matsyasana) Now, let's get into the restorative fish pose, or matsyasana. I'll guide you as you lie back over a block or prop, allowing gravity to do the work of opening up the front body. With your arms in a T or cactus shape and your legs relaxed, this pose is all about reversing the effects of slouching. 00:05:39 -- Emotional and Spiritual Aspects As we hold the pose, I'll talk about the emotional and symbolic aspects of this practice. Opening up the front body isn't just physical; it's about embracing vulnerability and self-expression. But don't worry—grounding your feet on the earth gives you the stability and power you need to feel safe as you open up. 00:13:33 -- Closing and Integration We wrap up the session with a closing sequence, leading you into a deep relaxation in shavasana. I encourage you to breathe deeply, release any remaining tension, and thank your body for its strength. As we end, I invite you to carry the openness and calm from this practice into your daily life, promising to return to this space whenever you need it. ------------------------ ✨ Welcome to Cha Wilde's YouTube channel dedicated to healing. There is a little-known fact that our posture is a highly accurate indicator of one's overall health and wellness. For those of us who live a high-output lifestyle, hunched over a steering wheel, a computer screen, or a work table, our spine slowly loses its strength and flexibility. Our body takes the form we place it in the most, so it's not surprising that most of us suffer from poor posture. Luckily, however, our posture is one of the easiest things to fix. Even more so, the more we strengthen our spine, the more power our bodies and minds will have to tackle the day's challenges and expand one's consciousness. As a yogi, and a singer, we have developed an awareness of how we hold our bodies while working, commuting, resting, and playing. We do so so that we can perform each of those tasks more efficiently while alleviating the effects of stress on the physical body. Posture is a topic that has come up quite often during our past episodes. Whether we are talking about how to breathe correctly, how to tap into your body's ability to heal itself, or how to become more expressive of your gifts, posture is a key element in the discussion. In this episode, however, we reached out to Aesha Tahir, a wellness consultant, and human exercise physiologist, to go deeper into the science behind posture and wellness. A lot of us have niggling bodily pains. A bum knee, a tight hip, an achy back. My guest would say that the cause of those maladies, as well as their cure, can likely be traced to a common source: your posture. His name is VinhPham and he's a physical therapist and the author ofSit Up Straight: Future-Proof Your Body Against Chronic Pain with 12 Simple Movements. Today on the show, Vinh explains the problems that can arise when we don't stand and sit properly, and simply sit too much in general, and how those problems can be prevented by practicing good posture. He explains what good posture looks like when you're sitting and standing, and the cues that will help keep your body well-aligned. Vinh shares the ideal ratio of sitting to standing to aim for throughout the day, and a better way to hold your phone so you don't get something called "tech neck." Vinh then walks us through some exercises you can do to address physical issues you may already have, from tight shoulders and hips to lower back pain.Resources Related to the PodcastAoM Article: The Ultimate Guide to PostureAoM Article: De-Quasimodo Yourself — 6 Exercises to Counteract SlouchingAoM Article: 7 Simple Exercises That Undo the Damage of SittingAoM Podcast #213: Undoing the Damage of Chronic SittingAoM Article: The History, Benefits, and Use of Standing DesksConnect With Vinh PhamMyodetoxVinh on IG
