After starting with Everton's most-successful skipper Kevin Ratcliffe at the Cheshire Cat pub in Christleton in March 2024, the 20th and final episode of the Goodison Park: My Home series sees Chris Beesley at ‘The Grand Old Lady' herself, to speak to current club captain Seamus Coleman. Arguably the best pound for pound signing of the Premier League era with his fabled “Sixty Grand” fee that features in a popular supporters' song, the Republic of Ireland international holds the Blues record for the most matches in the competition and is widely regarded as being their best player in his position of modern times. Lauded by then Everton manager Frank Lampard as “the best man I've ever met,” after the 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace in 2022 to secure top flight survival, the right-back from Killybegs, County Donegal, has epitomised the ‘Spirit of the Blues' both on and off the pitch for over 16 years since joining from Sligo Rovers in January 2009 and unlike many of his team-mates, he chooses to live in Liverpool itself. Speaking in his usual, candid manner, Coleman talks passionately to the ECHO about his love for Goodison Park, Everton Football Club and its fanbase. Goodison Park is set to become the home of Everton Women in a move that will retain the club's presence in its historic home. The men's team will play its final game at the Grand Old Lady on Sunday, ending 133 years of footballing heritage before the club moves to a new state-of-the art home on the Liverpool waterfront. Thousands of supporters will line the surrounding streets to welcome the players ahead of the game against Southampton and celebrations will continue on the pitch after the final whistle. The game will no longer mark the end of competitive football at the Goodison Road site, however, after the results of a feasibility study conducted by the club paved the way for the women's team move. Trevor Steven, the player who scored the goal that produced arguably the loudest roar in the Grand Old Lady's history, is Chris Beesley's latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. Steven netted the goal that clinched Everton's place in the 1985 European Cup-Winners' Cup final when he sealed the 3-1 win over Bayern Munich in what is widely regarded as Goodison Park's greatest-ever night. Born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Steven recalls his early football memories, growing up close to England's border with Scotland, before getting his big break in the professional ranks at Burnley, where he played alongside a previous Goodison Park: My Home guest Martin Dobson. Having been snapped up by fellow North Easterner Howard Kendall for £300,000 in 1983, Steven's first season on Merseyside finished with him delivering the cross for Andy Gray's goal to clinch the 2-0 victory over Watford in the FA Cup final. The following season, the midfielder was part of Everton's most-successful side with a memorable goal at Tottenham Hotspur in the title run-in as well as scoring both in the semi-final second leg and final in Europe. Steven then went on to become top scorer in a second Blues' League Championship-winning side in 1987 before departing Goodison after the 1989 FA Cup final. Now 61, Steven, who in 1991 commanded the joint-highest fee for a British player at the time when he moved from Rangers to Marseille for £5.5million, also delivers an important message about how through his work with charity Mindflow, he is trying to use football to help improve mental health in the construction industry. Described by Everton's most-successful manager Howard Kendall as the Blues' most-important signing since the Second World War, Peter Reid joins Chris Beesley for the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Reid first played at ‘The Grand Old Lady' when he was just 14 years old for Huyton schoolboys but back then he was a Liverpool fan. The midfielder underwent an emphatic conversion though following his transfer from Bolton Wanderers to Everton in 1982 and having helped the Blues lift the FA Cup in 1984, he was voted PFA Players' Player of the Year by his fellow professionals in 1984/85 as the club enjoyed their best-ever season, winning the League Championship with five games to spare plus the European Cup-Winners' Cup. After suffering the heartbreak of finishing runners-up to Liverpool in both the League and FA Cup the following year – refusing to take part in the joint open top bus parade after the Wembley final between the two local rivals – Reid and his team-mates would bounce back from injury and adversity to secure another title in 1986/87 before Kendall departed. Reid recalls Everton's glory days plus banter with team-mates and fans with his typical sense of humour in what is a fun-filled chat, although he almost spills coffee all over the studio when Chris asks him about an amusing incident in an FA Cup semi-final. Also, ahead of Mothers' Day, there is poignancy as the 68-year-old recalls the emotional scenes when his lifelong Evertonian mum was captured on camera, celebrating the 1985 League Championship success at Goodison Park. Still giddy from James Tarkowski's bolt from the blue at the Grand Old Lady , Lyndon, Paul and Adam look back at the 2-2 draw with Liverpool, savour a memorable slice of history from the team captain and laud the Blues for a good overall performance that, arguably, deserved more than just the point they rescued. Then the fellas look ahead to Palace (A) and discuss the merits of offering Abdoulaye Doucouré a new contract. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In our first Goodison Park: My Home interview published in 2025 – the year Everton finally depart the Grand Old Lady – we speak to the Blues' favourite Yorkshireman Ian Snodin. Despite hailing from the other side of the Pennines, ‘Snods' as he is affectionately known by Evertonians, became a True Blue and adored by the Goodison fanbase when snubbed Liverpool's Kenny Dalglish to accept Howard Kendall's offer to join the club in 1987. Ian's decision was vindicated as he was rewarded with a League Championship medal in his first season on Merseyside and his hilarious tale about what happened to him on the way home from that title success clinched at Norwich City is worth watching the interview alone! He also speaks candidly about his upbringing in a mining community, his formative years in the game playing alongside his elder brother Glynn at Doncaster Rovers and the influence that Billy Bremner had on him both there and at Leeds United plus the varied role he now plays as an ambassador for Everton Football Club. The Baker Hotel is known as The Grand Old Lady and is located in Mineral Wells, Texas, a town named for the mineral springs in the area. In the early 1900s, the city became a place for those seeking healing from the curative effects of the mineral springs. To provide lodging for these guests, the Baker Hotel was built by Theadore Baker. For years, this once grand resort sat decaying, but today it is undergoing extensive renovations with a plan to reopen in 2026. We have to wonder what the many spirits here have to say about that. Chris Beesley speaks to Anders Limpar, the man described by Everton's last trophy-winning manager Joe Royle as “A football genius” and “the most-talented player I ever worked with,” in the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home. Despite hailing from Solna, on the edge of Sweden's capital city of Stockholm, Limpar, explains how he was actually a boyhood Blue with his affiliation with Everton going back much longer than his three-year playing stint with the club between 1994-97. The 59-year-old, who had already been a League Championship winner with Arsenal before he came to Merseyside, speaks poignantly about his friendship with the late Kevin Campbell and also recalls the scramble for his signature when his time at Highbury came to an end. Limpar speaks candidly about his part in ‘The Great Escape' against Wimbledon, the change of manager from Mike Walker to Joe Royle, winning the FA Cup against Alex Ferguson's Manchester United and his combination both on and off the field with fellow winger Andrei Kanchelskis who inadvertently helped him to learn Russian. It's another generous portion of True Blue nostalgia with our 10th guest so far as we celebrate the final season of ‘The Grand Old Lady' with one of her greatest mercurial talents. Leon Osman joins Chris Beesley for the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home. The modern day icon, who is returning to the Grand Old Lady next month to host the Gwladys Street Presents: Cult Heroes event where he will join former team-mates Lee Carsley and Thomas Gravesen plus 90s hero Daniel Amokachi, was one of the Blues' silkiest midfielders of the Premier League era. Despite not making his first start until he was almost 23, Osman went on to make 433 appearances for Everton, making it into the top 10 on the club's all-time list, level with their most-celebrated player Dixie Dean. A stalwart whose career spanned the entire reigns of both David Moyes and Roberto Martinez, 'Ossie' recalls his life and times with the Blues, recalling his spectacular strike against Larissa and other memorable goals plus his thoughts on his varied cast of colleagues. In the week in which we learned what the final fixture at the Grand Old Lady will be, the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home sees ECHO Everton reporter Chris Beesley speaking to a true Blue legend, Derek Temple. Liverpool-born Temple, 85, wrote himself into Everton folklore when he scored the winning goal in the 1966 FA Cup final to complete a sensational 3-2 comeback victory against Sheffield Wednesday. A prolific scorer in schoolboy football, he had to pick of both his local clubs plus some other top sides vying for his signature ahead of him making his top flight debut at Goodison Park against Newcastle United on March 30, 1957. Temple, who made 275 appearances and scored 83 goals for his home city side despite losing over two years of his career to national service duties in Kenya, recalls netting twice for Everton in a 3-3 draw against Manchester United's ‘Busby Babes' in the season of the Munich air disaster while also offering some refreshingly candid views on the Blues bosses he played under plus several high-profile team-mates and opponents. It's another magical trip down memory lane for Evertonians who know their history and love nostalgia. Everton FC podcasts from the Liverpool ECHO's Royal Blue YouTube channel. In the latest edition of Goodison Park: My Home, Chris Beesley speaks to a true Everton hero, Graham Stuart on the 30th anniversary of the “Great Escape.” On May 7, 1994, Stuart saved Everton Football Club with a stirring two-goal display in their dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Wimbledon to complete a “Great Escape” from relegation on the final day of the Premier League season. With their top flight status on the line, the Blues recovered from going 2-0 down just 20 minutes into the contest against an in-form Wimbledon side as Stuart halved the deficit with one of the biggest-pressure penalties in the history of ‘The Grand Old Lady' before netting the winner nine minutes from the end to take his side out of the drop zone for the first time all day. Just a year later, Stuart was part of the team that beat Manchester United 1-0 at Wembley to lift the FA Cup – Everton's last major trophy to date – while these days he is back with his beloved Blues, working as a club ambassador. A memorial stands near Prussia Cove in Southwest England, a small reminder of a ship that had served its purpose, defending a worldwide empire for 30 years and during some of its darkest days. It reads "HMS Warspite 1915 - 1945 Ran aground and broken up on these rocks 1947, her final haven. Known to all who served aboard her as The Grand Old Lady. May she with many gallant shipmates rest in peace."During this long episode we will discuss the entire life of the ship, from the design of the Queen Elizabeth class battleships that would be launched in 1915, through the First World War and Jutland, the great unknown of the interwar years, the refits of the 1920s and 1930s, into war once again in 1939, and then finally to Warspite's final campaigns in 1945 as an old, battered, and broken ship.

Elisabeth stirs up some nostalgia while recounting the history of the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. With a beginning in Victorian times and operating to this day, the hotel claims to be one of the most haunted places, and for good reason. The hotel's colorful past includes healing resort, all-girls school, and fraudulent cancer hospital. You won't want to miss the details on this one!

Well, that was sweet wasn't it?Late, late goals from substitutes Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun sealed a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace that left Goodison Park bouncing in a way the Grand Old Lady has not in some time. From manager Marco Silva's brave changes, to Jordan Pickford's penalty save and the performance of debutant Andre Gomes, not to mention the little matter of a third straight Premier League victory for the first time in 18 months, Evertonians have every right to feel positive going into next weekend's trip to Manchester United. But this podcast is all about the Palace match - and we get the view from the press box, with our Everton FC reporter Adam Jones and head of sport Dave Prentice, the view from the stands with Blues fan Max Carlyle, and the view from the dugout with Silva's press conference in full.Enjoy.

The American Symphony i New York. MUSIK 1.
