This week we're covering HBO's Euphoria, making us want to revert back to the good old days of our youth and feel nostalgic...JK. These youths of America make us never want to have kids, make us want to stay fulled clothed, and keep our phones on private! Find out our hot takes and predictions for Rue, Jules, and the gang and how shocked we were to learn that McSteamy became McNoNo. Hilarity ensues as always. And Ashtray is a beast. I must be weird I don’t hate ads. I like that I get ads on Hulu, it shows me what else is out there. Otherwise, I might just end up watching Dragon Ball or the Office for the millionth time. Lately, I’ve been seeing ads for a Hulu original called Ramy. I finally had a chance to sit down and watch it and honestly I couldn’t stop. It’s a show about a culture, about religion, about people I don’t understand. I had friends who are Muslim, but I’m a white guy who grew up Catholic, what the hell do I know? Ramy is a young Muslim America living in New Jersey, where the comedian Ramy Youssef grew up. He’s a dreamer, he’s an underdog, he wants to do something with his life. Although he is very modern in his views, he still tries to stay true to his religion. It’s important to him to not drink or take drugs, and go to the temple and pray. The best bit is this show is from the eyes of someone who grew up after 9/11. They don’t shy away from racism and culture identity and what it means to be an American. Ramy is rich in comedy and the everyday struggle of Muslim Americans. I laughed and learned something. This show is fun, smart and insightful. What’s more important isn’t what’s different, it’s all the things we have in common. Our mothers just want the best for us, everyone is just trying to find their place, find love. This is a great show and I think everyone should watch it.
Mari and Jeff try Cast (#ad) for the first time to record their episode and it's LIT (take that, dude who gave us 2 stars on iTunes...) Mari gives her review of Rocketman and Jeff discusses Late Night - their first Oscar contender chats of the season! They also discuss the beauty that is HBO's Euphoria (when Mari and Jeff realize they were NOT cool in high school). The bulk of the episode is Jeff and Mari's discussion on the 2010 film and Oscar Best Picture winner, The King's Speech, and the theme of discomfort. They never really get over Guy Pearce's mouth...
In this week's Flicker Effect: Toy Story 4 hits theaters and was a hit at the box office. But was it a worthy installment in the beloved Pixar franchise? We also discuss HBO's Euphoria, the Child's Play remake, and more!
FORE! Welcome to Basic Cable's wall-to-wall coverage of the Min' Golf Masters.News You Can Lose is back with a heavy dose of MTV. We watch new trailers for The Hills (11:00) and Jersey Shore. HBO is pushing the envelope with its new teen-centered drama, EUPHORIA. Sex influenced by pornography, wanton drug use, aimless youth: It's a horror movie for parents. But is it a fair representation of the 9/11 generation — the first set of kids to come of age with smartphones perpetually in tow?Host Mark Olsen (@IndieFocus) talks with Times TV reporter @villarrealy.On a lighter note, Olsen also talks with @cashleelee and @thefilmgoer about the return of YOUNGER, the hit romantic dramedy back for its sixth season. With its deep fan base, the TV Land series seems to have cracked the code for keeping appointment television relevant in a streaming world.

In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Olivia Applegate. Olivia Applegate is an actor multi-hyphenate based in Los Angeles. Originally from Austin, TX, Olivia got her start when she landed a role in Terrence Malick’s feature, SONG TO SONG, alongside heavy hitters such as Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara. She continued as an Indie Darling, starring in several critically acclaimed features including KRISHA, which won the Audience and Grand Jury Prizes at SXSW and was an official selection at the Semaine de la Critique at Cannes. Her indie film success combined with her star turn singing on NBC’s AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, garnered her representation in LA. Since moving West, Olivia has booked roles on NBC’s REVOLUTION, Fox’s THE GIFTED and the upcoming shows EUPHORIA, for HBO starring Zendaya, and Bravo’s limited series, DIRTY JOHN, starring Connie Britton and Eric Bana. She’s also the lead in streaming site Passionflix’s new series, DRIVEN, acting opposite fellow Kahn student, Casey Deidrick. Olivia enjoys working behind the camera as a writer, producer and director as well. Her most recent collaboration, PINK LEMONADE, is on the festival circuit this year. When Olivia isn’t acting, she loves performing as a singer and cellist and has even helped compose and perform songs for several of her film projects. She also loves cooking (AKA throwing random ingredients in a pan and hoping for the best). You can download or subscribe to our podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page! There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
