In todays Episode we meet Israeli singer and musician Laor. Laor has been researching the power of the human voice for the last 20 years and have performed in festivals such as: Inititation, Medicine, Healing, Earthdance and many many more... collaborating with incredible musicians with a real passion to Inspire humans to breath, connect, pray and sing like never before. She created a beautiful singing circle at Alma Frequency festival last weekend at Six senses Ibiza and held space for many to express their voice through sound and song. We hear her thoughts on why she feels western society is so repressed and held back from being able to speak up but also use their own unique voices to celebrate life and find their way through that feeling of connection. Why do we shy away? Whay do feel so embaressed? Laor has a few theories and we finish with a song, that you can also sing along to- Hym to the Soul.

This podcast is called ‘Real Talk' for a reason. All too often those who seem to have their health and fitness together in fact do not and they are put on a pedestal by society. One of my goals in creating this podcast was to broaden and deepen the conversations we have with regard to health and well-being. It can seem like a mountain to climb when making any effort in becoming a healthier version of yourself; the more relatable this podcast and my content can be, the more achievable our health and fitness goals become. Whilst it does require ongoing effort, it need not be strenuous ALL the time and what I hope is that people listen and understand that the only way any of us who operate at an ‘elite' level within this industry have got to where we are is by repeating small steps until they become a habit before then working on the next area of priority - repeat, repeat, repeat. This episode is really about the fundamentals and whilst that can seem boring, it is often the most overlooked area where progress can be made. I see far too many people trying to create drastic change thinking that they are a lightbulb that can just switch on and off when in fact they are not. We are better able to sustain change when the change is small as it is then easily repeatable. When we feel that we can succeed, we feel motivated to continue and thus breaking larger goals down into smaller day-to-day and week-to-week actions are the most effective way to integrate change into an already busy life. Many thanks to Hym for joining me on this episode and for all his amazing and very true-to-life insights and shares. It can be rare to meet a fitness professional who really understands the reality of those who work long hours in the corporate world which often entail travel too. I feel that if we are to help others, we first must understand their mindset and lifestyle. His tips and perspectives are super practical and recognize the day-to-day challenges faced by those in the corporate world. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.11.22.392985v1?rss=1 Authors: Noro, Y., Shimizu, H., Mineta, K., Gojobori, T. Abstract: The last common ancestor of Bilateria and Cnidaria is believed to be one of the first animals to develop a nervous system over 500 million years ago. Many of the genes involved in the neural function of the advanced nervous system in Bilateria are well conserved in Cnidaria. Thus, Cnidarian representative species, Hydra, is considered to be a living fossil and a good model organism for the study of the putative primitive nervous system in its last common ancestor. The diffuse nervous system of Hydra consists of several peptidergic neuron subsets. However, the specific functions of these subsets remain unclear. Using calcium imaging, here we show that the neuron subsets that express neuropeptide, Hym-176 function as motor neurons to evoke longitudinal contraction. We found that all neurons in a subset defined by the Hym-176 gene (Hym-176A) or its paralogs (Hym-176B) expression are excited simultaneously, which is then followed by longitudinal contraction. This indicates not only that these neuron subsets are motor neurons but also that a single molecularly defined neuron subset forms a single coactive motor circuit. This is in contrast with the Bilaterian nervous system, where a single molecularly defined neuron subset harbors multiple coactive circuits, showing a mixture of neurons firing with different timings. Furthermore, we found that the two motor circuits, one expressing Hym-176B in the body column and the other expressing Hym-176A in the foot, are coordinately regulated to exert region-specific contraction. Our results demonstrate that one neuron subset is likely to form a monofunctional circuit as a minimum functional unit to build a more complex behavior in Hydra. We propose that this simple feature (one subset, one circuit, one function) found in Hydra is a fundamental trait of the primitive nervous system. Copy rights belong to original authors. The few weeks prior to Christmas are often spent celebrating the birth of Christ. The birth of Christ is vital to remember and right to celebrate. Nonetheless, the Advent, e.g. his second and first comings, are often neglected. I often lament the neglect of Advent during the month of December. More than a personal matter, I believe it is a matter of remembering and living within the reality of the life of Christ and the story of God and his people. Why then should Christians observe Advent, which is certainly not synonymous with Christmas? I should suggest that an overarching reason for observance of Advent is Christians’ empathy with Israel in expectation and waiting. The church is surely able to relate to Israel because we too are in waiting and possess eager expectation, not of his first coming but his second. In fact, Advent focuses more on Christ’s second coming than his first. Certainly, we should remember the expectation of Israel awaiting the Messiah; yet, we too await the second coming of Messiah, which is a certainty. The heart of Advent then is not only expecting but also waiting. As Israel long awaited and expected the coming of Jesus, we too await and expect him to return as well as other aspects of Christ’s work and character which are crucial. I would like to submit three primary imperatives for which we wait and expect.

Listen Inside - Daily book previews from Readers in the Know by Simon Denman
Synopsis Hym and Hur are a young couple who never age and have been in love for more than a century. They also possess an array of magical abilities, two of which are either to play pranks on humankind or to perform good deeds. Enacting both at the same time is now what gets them into trouble, especially since it's the unruly character of Death they must deal with to bring their plans to fruition. The prank Hym and Hur have come up with must first be agreed upon by Death, who happens to be a rambunctious, difficult character. Once agreed upon, the prank is set in motion. Hym and Hur soon discover Death had tricked them into a contract with dire consequences for all of us. During their attempt to break the contract, Hym and Hur try to save the relationship of an earthbound couple, knowing they are truly meant for each other. A good deed that will bring Hym and Hur even more trouble. Excerpt A bright flash lit up the restaurant window. The waitress snapped her eyes shut, thinking it was the sun bouncing off a windshield. Blinking her eyes open, she noticed the booth alongside the window was occupied. A booth she could have sworn had just been empty, and she made her way over to it. Hym set the breakfast menu down. "Coffee," he said to the waitress, "and can I get a hot fudge sundae at this hour?" "No problem," she told him. "And for you, ma'am?" "Hot tea," Hur said, "and a slice of cherry pie with two scoops of vanilla ice cream." "Sounds great," the waitress smiled, and she left them. "What'll we do today?" Hur asked Hym. Searching for an answer, his hazel eyes filled with mischief. "How about this?" he whispered. "For twenty-four hours we give everyone in Los Angeles bad luck." "But most of them already have bad luck," Hur said. "And it would be a negative. Why not give everybody good luck?" "Not really my kind of fun," he slouched. In the silence that followed, each tried to come up with something. "Breakfast time," the waitress announced. She served the drinks and desserts, and then was off to the next booth. Hur's blue eyes brightened. "I got it," she said, and it was her turn to whisper. "For a day or two, no one in Los Angeles dies." Hym slapped his forehead. "That is great!" "Oh-darn," she said. "We'll have to get you-know-who to go along with it." "Why wouldn't he?" Hym said as he dug happily into his sundae. "It'll give him a chance to shorten his list." Hur nodded skeptically as she took a big bite of her dessert. Barney's Beanery had just opened. There were only two customers at the bar. A chubby old woman sipped a beer at one end. At the other sat Death tossing back a shot of Jim Beam. He grimaced with delight, slammed his glass down and said, "Barkeep—I'll have another." Pouring the drink, the bartender eyed Death's black coat and fedora, the pale skin and long gnarled fingers. "Perfect weather for a coat," he cracked, "must be only about 80 out there."
