fWotD Episode 2855: John Wick (film) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 27 February 2025 is John Wick (film).John Wick is a 2014 American action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick, a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his dog, a final gift from his recently deceased wife. The film also stars Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.Kolstad's script drew on his interest in action, revenge, and neo noir films. The producer Basil Iwanyk purchased the rights as his first independent film production. Reeves, whose career was declining, liked the script and recommended that the experienced stunt choreographers Stahelski and David Leitch direct the action scenes; Stahelski and Leitch successfully lobbied to co-direct the project. Principal photography began in October 2013, on a $20–$30 million budget, and concluded that December. Stahelski and Leitch focused on long, highly choreographed single takes to convey action, eschewing the rapid cuts and closeup shots of contemporary action films.Iwanyk struggled to secure theatrical distributors because industry executives were dismissive of an action film by first-time directors, and Reeves's recent films had financially underperformed. Lionsgate Films purchased the distribution rights to the film two months before its release date on October 24, 2014. Following a successful marketing campaign that changed its perception from disposable entertainment to a prestige event helmed by an affable leading actor, John Wick exceeded box-office projections and became a modest success, grossing $86 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews for its style and its action sequences. Critics hailed John Wick as a comeback for Reeves, in a role that played to his acting strengths. The film's mythology of a criminal underworld with rituals and rules was praised as its most distinctive and interesting feature.John Wick began a successful franchise which includes three sequels (John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)), the prequel television series The Continental (2023), and the spin-off film Ballerina (2025), as well as video games and comic books. It is seen as having revitalized the action genre and popularized long single takes with choreographed, detailed action. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:56 UTC on Thursday, 27 February 2025.For the full current version of the article, see John Wick (film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Stephen.

Another Paternity Leave Installment, and we we're digging into the back catalog for one we really didn't like... As mentioned over the past couple of months, this is content that's been behind the Patreon paywall for a while. Patreon payments are frozen for the time being. New Munchies technically can't join as paying members until that's unpaused, though a few resourceful fans have figured out a work-around where you can join as a free member and upgrade from there to a paid account which charges you for one month and unlocks the back catalog behind the respective tier of the paywall. After that first payment, you won't be charged again until we're dropping new content (which we'll warn everyone is coming). For the 28th installment of Munch My Benson, the Randomizer forced Josh and Adam to watch an SVU that featured very little in the way of Law or Order but a whole lot of Mayhem. That's right folks, this episode, "Chasing Demons" (S19E14) brings SVU's favorite liability insurance pitchman, Dean Winters, back into the fold for 45 minutes of questionable acting choices. As ever, we digress. Does your mom's favorite SVU podcast feature spicy hot melon takes, comparative studies of European legal systems' wardrobes, or ruminations on the divine nature of the trinity? Didn't think so.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Diana R, Tony B, Zak B, Barry W, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Christine L, Amy A, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Asteria K, Suzanne B, Tim Y, John P, John W, Elia S, Rebecca B, Lily, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Kate K, Whitney C, Alex, Lauren A, Jannicke HS, Giselle V, Roni C, and Nourhane B - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! Another Paternity Leave Installment is here, and this time, Josh decided that we should drop one on an episode we DID NOT LIKE. As mentioned over the past few weeks, this is content that's been behind the Patreon paywall for a while. Patreon payments are frozen for the time being. New Munchies can't join as paying members until that's unpaused, but you can join as a free member and at least be kept abreast of pod news...What happens when a new showrunner takes over Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and doesn't understand the characters at all? Or how SVU tells stories? Well, the Randomizer selected “Gone Fishin'” (Season 19, Episode 1), so the Munchie Boys found out the hard way. Fin kidnaps a perp who absconded to Cuba? Dean Winters and Peter Jacobson coexist in an episode where Jacobson isn't Bart Ganzel, Cassidy's pimp employer from the Cragen-waking-up-with-a-corpse-in-his-bed three-part saga, challenging the strength of the space-time continuum? How ridiculous can a soundstage set that's supposed to pass for Cuba get? The answers to these and so many other befuddling questions lie within the confines of this installment of Munch My Benson.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Nikki B, Diana R, Tony B, Zak B, Barry W, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Christine L, Amy A, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Asteria K, Suzanne B, Tim Y, Douglas P, John P, John W, Elia S, Rebecca B, Kevin, Lily, Lucy, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Kate K, Alison M, Whitney C, Alex, and Kaytlyn B - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! “You and me together? God doesn't have the balls to keep us out.” Leo is looking to send Miguel back to Solitary due to a lack of progress from his Em City informant. After being tasked with killing Burr by Morales, Miguel tries to strike a deal with Burr himself. However, a rejection leads to deadly consequences and Miguel leaving the unit once again. Weigert Corporation's "Aging Pill" experiment continues to cause friction amongst the staff as the inmates continue to take their dosage. While some appear to be showing no side-effects whatsoever, others are showing varying degrees of aging, which gets Ryan into a panic. It could be worse though, it's not like any of the test subjects have dropped dead. Oh wait… Leroy, now known as Salah Yudin, continues to plot to kill Said. He's presented with a golden opportunity, but he can he bring himself to do it? Omar gets starstruck following a chance meeting with Vahue. Feeling disrespected by Vahue's aloofness, and talking absolute shit in the process, Omar strikes out, determined to make a name for himself. The Refugees are prepared to be returned to China. Before that happens, Gongjin gets the opportunity to meet the man behind the people smuggling operation, Jia Kenmin. With his chance to gain revenge on Morales for Bian's murder having now past, Gongjin asks for Jia to prove himself to his people by murdering Morales. Supreme returns to Em City, not only adding to Ryan's panic, but leading to a revelation for Augustus regarding the night he was arrested. Following a confrontation in the showers which leaves Augustus in the hospital, and despite Keller's offer to help, Burr seeks his own brand of justice. The news of Hank's murder reaches Oz, jeopardising the progress made between Schillinger and Beecher. Schillinger, with a little convincing from Robson, goes on the offensive, resulting in a visiting Angus being stabbed. As tensions continue to rise, Keller confides in Cloutier that it was he that ordered the hit on Hank, and that Beecher is innocent. Believing Keller's confession, Cloutier finds Schillinger before any more blood can be spilled. In two minds about what to truly believe, Schillinger meets with Beecher in one last attempt to end the bloodshed. With the Hatchet seemingly buried, Beecher and Keller say their goodbyes as Keller is shipped off to Massachusetts to stand trial. One Movie Punch

Hi everyone! Just me today, as I continue taking a deep dive into documentaries, a semi-revival of our Documentary Thursdays segment from last year. This week, I’ll be tackling “Framing John DeLorean”, a film that promises a lot more than it delivers, much like the car of the same name. You’ll find out what I mean in a little bit, but for two other recommendations, definitely check out “Meeting Gorbachev” (Episode #641), last week’s documentary feature, and “Casting JonBenét”, a 2017 Netflix documentary that actually delivers what this film promises. Before the review, we’ll be showing more love for our friends at the Ocho Duro Parlay Hour. Every week, the whole crew sit down and go over a bunch of topics, from sports to comics to television and movies. Huge shoutout to the ODPH crew for all their support during Reign of Terror 2019. You can find them on Twitter and Instagram @ODParlayHour and on Facebook @ochoduroparlayhour. Lots of great content on a variety of topics! Subscribe to stay current with the latest releases. Contribute at Patreon for exclusive content. Connect with us over social media to continue the conversation. Here we go! ///// Today’s movie is “Framing John DeLorean”, the Sundance Selects documentary directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce and written for the screen by Dan Greeney and Alexandra Orton. The documentary tracks the rise and fall of pathological businessman John DeLorean, with a combination of actual footage and contemporary interviews, along with a series of re-enactments by well-known celebrities who give their thoughts in-between filming scenes. No spoilers. I’m starting today’s interview with how a majority of people will learn about this documentary – the marketing campaign. The trailer bills “Framing John DeLorean” as a revolutionary new kind of documentary, one that will change the way we look at documentaries forever, some new blend of documentary, re-enactment, actual footage, and commentary. Of course, this kind of experience definitely intrigues me, a new take on a standard film process. A similar promise was made and delivered in the 2017 documentary film “Casting JonBenét”, which examined the case of JonBenét Ramsey through the eyes of families auditioning for parts in a dramatization of the infamous events. If you want to see a film that actually pushes the boundaries, then check out that film, because “Framing John DeLorean” definitely does not deliver on its promise. Of course, it’s only as I sat down to write this review that I began to appreciate the wry irony of such a marketing campaign for this particular story. When it comes to the career of John DeLorean, perception always outweighs reality, from his invention of the American muscle car in the Pontiac GTO at General Motors, through his failed attempt to sustain a fledgling car company through a series of mistakes. I went into this film much like the buyers of the DMC, sold a new kind of documentary that would stand out amongst the competition, and ending up with a mildly unique documentary about a slightly extraordinary figure. I’m not sure whether to be angry or disappointed or impressed, and maybe that is the best way to approach the documentary. “Framing John DeLorean” is structured pretty much like any other documentary that relies upon dramatizations to recreate pivotal moments. John DeLorean is played by Alec Baldwin, supermodel wife Cristina Ferrare by Morena Baccarin, former business partner Bill Collins by Josh Charles, and other roles by Dean Winters, Michael Rispoli, Jason Jones, and others. The only slightly revolutionary move here is some behind-the-scenes interviews with Baldwin and Baccarin, which would normally be played in the special features portion of a DVD, but instead are inserted throughout the film. Aside from one story about DeLorean calling Baldwin to have him consider playing DeLorean in a movie, there’s really not much insight brought into DeLorean’s story. I think it also lessened the impact of the dramatizations themselves, having to switch between actors as themselves and actors as their roles, perhaps another wry, unintentional similarity to DeLorean’s private and public personas. “Framing John DeLorean” might not be revolutionary, but the documentary itself is well-made. Dramatizations aside, the standard documentary portions have a great selection of media assets, including still frames, varying qualities of video from his decades-long career, and audio recordings, especially surrounding the famous attempt by the FBI to frame him for a cocaine deal. Well-chosen assets help tell the rise of John DeLorean, but the interviews with his kids, Zach DeLorean and Kathryn DeLorean, shows the real contempt for the effects of DeLorean’s actions, from the destruction of his family, to the massive disruptions to the economy of Northern Ireland after the closure of the DeLorean plant due to financial maleficence. In fact, by the end of the documentary, I had kind of wished Zach had narrated his father’s story the whole way. Two asides. First, the story of the DeLorean Motor Company is frighteningly similar to the troubles in the rise of Tesla, which also only survived after an injection of cash from the government to continue operations, and shows another executive learning the hard way that starting a company takes a lot more than money or investors. You can see some of those similarities in 2011’s “Revenge of the Electric Car” that tracked the recent rise of the modern electric car at Tesla, Nissan, Chevy, and independent converters. Second, they most definitely have a segment about featuring the DeLorean in the “Back to the Future” franchise and speculate about the potential for the DeLorean car itself if it had survived to see the film. I certainly wanted one as a kid, knowing nothing about the disappointment in the cars by actual owners. “Framing John DeLorean” is a documentary that promises a lot more than it delivers, quite similar to the DeLorean Motor Company. However, instead of a failed product, Argott and Joyce deliver a well-made, mostly standard documentary complete with re-enactments, and perhaps too-intrusive commentaries from the actors involved. Documentary fans, or folks interested in learning more about John DeLorean, should absolutely see this film. Just be ready to have a few reservations when you’re done. Rotten Tomatoes: 91% (CERTIFIED FRESH) Metacritic: 67 One Movie Punch: 7.8/10 “Framing John DeLorean” (2019) is not rated and is currently playing on Hulu.

John Wick (retrospectively known as John Wick: Chapter 1) is a 2014 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. It stars Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe. It is the first installment in the John Wick film series. SCENE: Red Circle Club Rampage Scene (https://youtu.be/CTJlmlZWWHA) The story focuses on John Wick (Reeves), searching for the men who broke into his home, stole his vintage car and killed his puppy, which serves as a memento of his recently deceased wife (Moynahan).[6] Stahelski and David Leitch directed the film together, though only Stahelski was credited.[1] Kolstad had completed the screenplay in 2012 and further developed it for Thunder Road Pictures.[7] The film was produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria, and Michael Witherill. It marks Stahelski and Leitch's directorial debut as a team after multiple separate credits as second-unit directors and stunt coordinators. They previously worked with Reeves as stunt doubles on The Matrix trilogy.[8] Stahelski and Leitch's approach to action scenes drew upon their admiration for anime[9] and

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, starring Andy Sandberg, Andre Braugher, and Terry Crews is a brilliant and absurd comedy with heart. Created by veteran comedy writers Michael Schur, co-creator of Parks and Recreation, and Daniel J. Goor, a writer on Parks and Rec, this show is now in its third season on Fox. The writing on the show is solid, with incredible story lines that show off the absurdity in the characters, keeping things fun and funny, while never making light of the crimes they solve. Since it first debuted, Brooklyn Nine-Nine has consistently been a well written, well performed show. With guest stars Dean Winters and Craig Robinson, this comedy powerhouse brings the laughs every episode. It has made stars of all the cast, and we are excited for its continued success for many more seasons.

Sneaky Pete has found new life on Amazon Prime. After CBS passed on the Bryan Cranston and David Shore story of a 30-something con artist joining a family's bail bond business it was a small miracle that the off-cable networks decided to pick it up. David Shore has an incredible track record writing for Due South, Law and Order, and creating the venerable House MD. More recently his last show Battle Creek featuring Dean Winters and Josh Duhamel failed to attract a strong audience and was canceled after one season by... you guessed it CBS.  On today's podcast we discuss some of the small changes from script to screen. We originally thought this wasn't going to be made into a pilot and were ready to discuss if CBS had made a mistake in passing on the show.  What do you think? Are you glad Sneaky Pete has a second life on Amazon?
