THE GOD WHO SEESThis fortnight we are delighted to be joined, all the way from the UK, by Kate Coleman. Kate shares her journey as one who is passionate about breaking ground for God. Both as one that was saved from no Christian background, thrown into Christian leadership in a tradition that initially did not recognise her as a leader, and a multiplicity of ways that she has been breaking ground ever since. Kate was the first Black Female Ordained within her tradition in the UK, and she has become critically acclaimed for her influence across the British church for her reflections on leadership shifts required in our churches. One of the highlights of this conversation was her reflections upon Haggar, and the God who sees us. Both when we are discouraged and despondent, and yet sensing the call to Pioneer. But also for those who are in seats of power with the potential to release others into leadership! With a unique blend of rock sensibilities and folky textures, the sound of Run Katie Run condenses into a singular force of energy and power. American Songwriter Kate Coleman may be front and center in Run Katie Run, but the band's new album, Cowboy Boots with Fishnet Tights, due out April 28, deeply reflects the community surrounding her. Its 13 Americana/roots-rock tracks cover the good, the sad, the inspired, and the tired — and everything in between — about relationships of all kinds. A few of the songs, in fact, are true stories starring Kate's family members. - RKR website What else do you need to know? Kate Coleman never intended to become a Christian, yet alone blaze a trail for women in ministry. The first Black female minister in the Baptist Union, as well as the denomination's first Black female president, when she was first asked to be a church elder (itself a miracle as her church had, up until that point, no women leaders) she was wary of saying yes. She knew God had called her, but was reluctant to be the cause of a potential church spilt. She describes the fallout as “a baptism of fire”. Three decades on, she's still pioneering new ways to equip and resource female leaders around the world. In this in depth interview with Premier Christianity's Emma Fowle, Kate unpacks her unorthodox journey to faith, what she's learnt from Christians behaving badly and shares her hopes and dreams for the future of the Church. You can also read this interview in Premier Christianity magazine. Subscribe now to receive the next 3 print issues for just £5.99

Kate Coleman, founder and director of the criminal justice reform group Keep Prisons Single Sex, discusses her organisation's advocacy for the sex-based rights of women throughout the criminal justice system and Scotland's Gender Recognition Reform Bill. Expounding upon the importance of sex to risk, safeguarding, and data recording, Coleman elaborates the needed changes to current practices within prisons throughout the UK. Observing how Sturgeon pushed through the Gender Recognition Reform Bill with astounding rapidity, Coleman describes her participation at Stage 1 of this bill, having given testimony on a panel in Holyrood. She also elicits her horror during Stage 3 as Coleman witnessed discussions around approximately 150 significant amendments to this bill—from child protection and the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. Coleman recounts how these proposed amendments were arrogantly dismissed with jeers from SNP politicians and accusations of bigotry towards women asking for reasonable accommodations to not be imprisoned with men. Articulating how the transgender lobby has introduced the concept that sex is something “about which you can and should be able to keep private,” Coleman analyses how this, together with collapse of gender and sex, has piggybacked “gender identity” onto intersex medical conditions in order to give this project a veneer of a proper medical diagnosis while disappearing the reality of sex. We were joined today by the amazing Dr Rev Kate Coleman! Some of you might remember her from our Breathe 2019 conference. Since then she has become part of our C3 international board of advisers and today she gives us a word to kick off our 2020 together!
Ever since she was a toddler, Jennifer sang and danced around the house with her siblings daily. Her mom says "she sang before she talked and danced before she walked". There has always been a spark and love for music in her heart. Now, being able to learn piano, guitar and ukulele, and learn how to use her voice, she has been writing more original music for her solo gig as Jennifer Barger (@jenniferbargermusic)! In 2016 she and her sister competed in a local GA competition at which the sister duo "Jenny & Sky" was born. They made it to the finals at the Madlife Stage & Studios "Undiscovered Artists Showcase" (2016-2017), and through that met some amazing people and musicians! Jenny & Sky performed locally in North GA/Atl area from 2016 till spring 2019 and recorded an EP ("Nonsense" by Jenny & Sky) and were honored to work with amazing artists such as Kate Coleman, Highbeams, and opened for Irish singer-songwriter Keith Harkin. Since May 2019 (after Sky's wedding and move over seas), Jennifer has performed solo and has continued collaborating and working with talented local artists such as Jonathan Peyton, Danny Brewer, again with Kate Coleman and Highbeams, and others! Now, fall 2019, she is in the studio recording a lullaby album, and also hosting a new video series called "The Tiny House Sessions" (@thetinyhousesessions) which is an opportunity for local artists to work on music collaborations and share their original music and upcoming projects with the world! The road has seemed uncertain at times, but with God's help and the encouragement of her family and friends, she is ready to share the true love, joy and passion she has for music with others. Thank you for joining her journey! Hope you enjoy the ride. -- Jennifer Barger Music jenniferbarger.music@gmail.com https://www.facebook.com/jennafifimusic/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thegeorgiasongbirds/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thegeorgiasongbirds/support

A trip to the orphanage sees young, sweet Esther join the brood. Esther is articulate, intelligent and a wonderful artist. So polite. She hits it off with everyone right away. You'd never know that it seems where ever the young lady goes tragedy and misfortune soon follow. When Kate realizes that there is something sorely wrong with Esther and she seems to be the only one that sees it. Slowly this once happy home tears itself apart as they contend with a little girl that is far from what she seems. Knives will be pulled, Hammers will be swung! Blood will flow! It all starts now!

We had a huge turnout at the Twisted Pepper last month for 'Covering the City', our look at media coverage in the capital, as part of the ongoing 'Living for the City' series. Our panel for the night were Niall Harbison, the founder of Lovin Dublin; Ian Lamont, editor of Totally Dublin; Kate Coleman, editor of Le Cool Dublin and James Redmond from Rabble magazine. Over the course of the evening, we prodded and poked how the media cover what’s going on in the city, what Dubliners want from their media about the place they call home and why stuff which should be covered in the capital often is not. A Bantercast which features some lively contributions from the audience too! You'll find a full transcript of this Banter at The Quarter - thanks to Mike Ussher for the hard work
