Diversity and inclusion are laudable goals, but how can change be created in an industry driven by tradition and financial return? This interview explores the concept of using economic incentives and data to encourage diversity within the legal profession. The conversation also explores controversial topics such as diversity spin, partner compensation, and the impact on the legal profession of changes to affirmative action law currently being considered at the Supreme Court. Aviva Will is the Co-Chief Operating Officer at Burford Capital and one of the architects behind Burford's Equity Project (a $150,000,000 fund allocated exclusively for women and minority litigators). Keith Harrison is a partner and co-chair of Crowell & Moring's Litigation Group and a member of the firm's Diversity Council. Aviva and Keith sit down with Joel to discuss putting money on the line to overcome inherent biases and structural disadvantages and to encourage, maintain, and grow diversity in the profession of law. Erin Moriarity from CBS News is here to discuss one of the most infuriating and fascinating cases I have ever heard, the curious case of Crosley Green. About Crosley (quoted from Crowell.com, ): On September 5, 1990, an all-white jury convicted Mr. Green of the first-degree murder of Charles “Chip” Flynn, Jr., a 22-year-old man in Titusville, Fla., and sentenced him to death. Mr. Green was convicted on the testimony of a single eyewitness, the victim's ex-girlfriend, who identified Mr. Green as the perpetrator. In 2009, Crowell won Mr. Green's release from death row, and he was resentenced to life in prison. On July 20, 2018, Crowell secured a critical victory in the case when a federal court in Orlando, Fla., granted Mr. Green's petition for habeas corpus and ordered that he be released or provided a new trial. "The court found that Mr. Green's constitutional rights were violated when Brevard County, Fla., prosecutors withheld witness interview notes that said the first two responding law enforcement officers told the prosecutor that they concluded the victim's ex-girlfriend—not Mr. Green—committed the crime. But the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed Mr. Green's victory, ruling that prosecutors did not need to disclose material exculpatory evidence to defense counsel because it would not have been admissible at trial. "It's a fight for freedom, and the fight isn't over until freedom is achieved,” said partner Keith Harrison. “We intend to approach Governor DeSantis and the parole board. We hope to have a conversation about why Mr. Green deserves to be free. We know Governor DeSantis is a law and order governor who is passionate about justice. We believe he will see that Crosley deserves to be free.” (all legal appeals have been exhausted) About Erin (quoted from CBSNews.com): Erin Moriarty, a CBS News journalist for three decades, has been a correspondent on "48 Hours" since 1990. In addition to reporting for "48 Hours," Moriarty's work is featured on all CBS News broadcasts and platforms, including "CBS Sunday Morning," "CBS Mornings" and the CBS News Streaming Network. Moriarty is also the host of the true-crime podcast, "My Life of Crime." At CBS News, Moriarty has covered some of the biggest crime and justice stories of our time, including the wrongful conviction of Ryan Ferguson, the death of JonBenet Ramsey, the ongoing story of millionaire Robert Durst, and the controversial case of Brooke Skylar Richardson, a young Ohio woman tried – and acquitted – for murdering her newborn baby. Hope everyone had a great and safe 4th of July celebration. In this episode, I talk with Keith Harrison about mental health in first responders. Keith started a clothing line to help raise awareness around mental health, primarily around first responders and their families. A portion of all proceeds go to mental health programs. Keith and I discuss the difficulties first responders face on the job and how we can change the way society reacts when those who help us, need help themselves. In this week's episode, I am joined by Keith Harrison, a Police Officer in Toronto, and the founder of Tier Response Apparel, which highlights mental health conversations. We discuss his own journey of dealing with mental illness after trauma exposure in the field, what ultimately made him leave the force to work on himself, and how he found his way back. He shares resources and organizations available to help first responders in need of mental health services, what we as individuals can be doing to support the cause, and much more. Keith has been a Police Officer in Ontario for over 16 years. As a result of Trauma exposure and not obtaining internal support, he went off work in early 2018 to take care of himself because he could not do the job any longer. He thought at that time he would no longer be a police officer or return to the job. Through outside support, services and trauma programs, traumatic growth, and healing, he is now back working after being off for three years. In 2021 when he was returning to work he made the decision that he was going to be the someone he didn't have 10+ years ago and that he was going to be someone that would continue to recover loudly and show that there is strength in seeking help, support and that one can overcome from a struggling state to thriving one living the best life possible. He created an apparel company, Tier Response Apparel which highlights mental health conversations and supports 1st Responders (ALL), including: medical personnel, corrections, and the military to provide funds to services and organizations that deliver programs and services to 1st Responders and their families. He is a father of three amazing kids who he wants to show and heal with them knowing that they feel like it's okay to seek help and support for their feelings as they develop and grow. Tune in to this week's episode to learn: How Keith was able to work on his own mental health and ultimately rejoin the force after taking a leave What we can be doing to better support and normalize the conversations around mental health How we can end the stigma of seeking mental health support as first responders and healthcare professionals Why Keith was afraid to come forward and talk about his own struggles in the beginning Resources available to help first responders and their families that need support Grab your drink of choice and join the conversation! Everyone struggles with mental health at some point in their lives. And while conversations surrounding mental health are becoming more normalized in society, there is still a long way to go in regards to support, advocacy, and ending stigmas.Unfortunately, that lack of support and advocacy leads to many people falling through the cracks until they feel they have nowhere to go.Today's guest experienced this, and has now made it his mission to help provide the support he needed to others. Keith Harrison wanted to become part of the solution, so he changed his career, got the help he needed, and now works to open healthy dialogue surrounding mental health so that people feel comfortable seeking help when they need it.Listen in to learn how you can also be part of the solution, both for yourself and for others who may need it.About Keith Harrison:As a police officer for over 15 years, Keith made the decision in 2018 to put himself first and take time away from the job. He knew he was struggling. He did not know the extent, but he knew he needed time. Keith recalls crying because he knew that by doing this, he would never be seen as the same strong officer again, but instead as a "broken toy". The system he gave everything to and sought help from seemed to refuse to see him as a human in pain. Since 2018, Keith has fought everyday and now, after help and support from amazing new friendships and top programs, he finds himself loving life and wanting to help others. Keith created Tier Response so he could be a part of the healthy change towards Mental Health amought 1st Responders support programs and services, and be the person he wished that he had years ago to reach out to. Today's guest is part of a team busy building a reinsurance broker to challenge the big three almost across the board. We'll never see the numbers but it is highly likely that his firm has invested the most of all the challenger reinsurance brokers in the past two years. During that time it has seen its headcount quintuple to two hundred and twenty-five and it has opened twelve new offices to be represented in thirteen locations. Despite this incredibly fast growth Keith Harrison International CEO of Lockton Re has his feet firmly on the ground and is one of the most level-headed and straight-talking brokers I have interviewed on this podcast. Indeed with so much uncertainty for reinsurance intermediaries over the past two years and with the daily news only prolonging the agony for many, Keith's claim that Lockton Re is actually one of the most stable places to come to work, rings fairly true. Listen on for more details on how Lockton Re plans to bring the fight to its larger rivals and a comprehensive diagnosis of reinsurance market conditions at the mid-year renewals. In Ep. 63, At Procter & Gamble, we talk a lot about "moments of truth." In our business, there are two moments of truth -- when the consumer stands at the store shelf and chooses our brand and when she uses our product at home and decides whether it lives up to her expectations. These moments are so important to our success and growth that our organization structure is designed around them. Almost everything our 110,000 employees do comes down to these two moments. In today's global, rapidly changing world, one of the most important qualities of leadership is the ability to define and organize around the moments of truth in your business. Manufacturing leaders, like those in IndustryWeek's 50 Best, are doing just that. The manufacturing industry is undergoing a subtle but radical shift -- from a focus solely on highly efficient, low-cost manufacturing to a broader look at the entire supply network as a source of new value for our companies. Keith Harrison, global product supply officer, Procter & Gamble Co.This is the kind of reinvention that requires strong leadership. The best leaders follow a consistent game plan for facilitating successful change within their organizations. First, they start with a clear vision. For example, P&G's Product Supply organization shares a vision of an end-to-end supply network driven by the consumer. This network starts -- not ends -- with the first moment of truth at the store shelf, and is driven by consumer needs as it flows back through the retail customer, distribution, manufacturing and suppliers. Keith Harrison knows more than most about "riding high" and having to "let it whip." The Grammy Award-winning artist tells “What Had Happened Was” host Amelia Robinson about his life as a member of the funk bands Faze-O, Dazz Band and Heatwave. The Jefferson High School grad breaks down how much money he never earned from the hit song “Riding High,” and where he thinks all those millions went. Keith says he’s experienced band infighting, jealousy and a whole lot of fun during his long career in the music industry. Keith describes being dazzled by Clarence "Satch" Satchell from the Ohio Players and his fish bowl table and explains why he used cocaine, heroin and nearly every other drug in the book before giving it all up. He won a Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy Award with the Dazz Band for 1982’s "Let It Whip” and penned “Let It All Blow.” Keith will play at the Levitt Pavilion at Dave Hall Plaza in downtown Dayton 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3. The concert follows a festival celebrating The Dayton Sister Cities Committee’s 50th anniversary with Oiso, Japan. The Dayton area was hit 15 tornadoes on Memorial Day. Want to help the community recover? The Dayton Foundation’s Tornado Relief Fund (daytonfoundation.org) and The Foodbank (thefoodbankdayton.org) are accepting financial donations.

Very few artists have been able to produce works or projects that incorporate skateboarding into their process or outcome that are embraced or appreciated by skateboarders ourselves – we can be quite fickle when it comes to these sort of things. I first became aware of Keith’s work through one such project, one that was embraced, and one I was jealous not be able to participate in (i.e. to skate it). It had a sensibility that always made me wonder if he himself was also a skateboarder, and was pleasantly impressed when finally being able to speak with him to learn that in fact he wasn’t. However, there is an interesting parallel in the way he embraces trial and error, failure, and ultimately risk taking in the way he approaches his work. It was also a pleasure to learn of the deeper, more personal significance behind many of his often quite spectacular works.Keith Harrison is currently exhibiting in Material Environments at The Tetley, Leeds.

It's been a busy week in politics and there's a lot to get through on today's podcast. First political reporter Sarah Bardon looks back at a shambolic few days on the Government front bench. Dáil watchers concur it has been a shocker from Fine Gael, and especially from Taoiseach Enda Kenny, whose tenure as party leader is measured now in days and weeks, not months and years, says Sarah. Then Alan Kelly of Labour and John McGuinness of Fianna Fáil join us to talk about the treatment of Garda whistleblowers Maurice McCabe and Keith Harrison, and what they want from the tribunal of inquiry that is now to be set up. Deputy Kelly says he wants to "flush out" any members of Government who were briefed by senior Gardaí about allegations against Sgt McCabe, while Deputy McGuinness expresses no faith in the government his own party props up. And finally we take a quick look at the history of tribunals of inquiry in this state with Irish Times legal affairs correspondent Colm Keena. Must they be costly, lengthy and largely ineffective? And should they be televised?
Nathan Judah and Tim Spiers are joined by special guest, Express & Star editor Keith Harrison. They discuss the hot topics including Paul Lambert's first game in charge , whether Wolves need to follow the Preston blueprint and if Chinese ownership across the Black Country is a good for the West Midlands. Do you want to know which players should get the Molineux boot? Who are the Preston dangermen at Deepdale? And what led Tim and Nathan to be left speechless midway through the recording? All is revealed in this week's very special podcast! There's also an epic head-to-head gameshow battle between Tim and Keith, but who comes out on top?
