This is a football podcast, but I love it when people are invested in topics and people and are passionate about those things. Kelly is the perfect example of just that. You can tell in her knowledge and her excitement that she knows Babe Ruth. You will enjoy this interview as much as I did as its host.If you would like to check out her book, you can find it at any bookstore, either online or at a storefront.ABOUT FOOTBALL IS FAMILYDo you bleed your favorite football team's colors each weekend? Does the difference of a W or L in the box score dictate how you respond for the rest of the week? Or do most of your conversations with your family and friends revolve around your favorite football team?If you answered yes to any (or maybe all) of these questions, then you are in the right place. The host of this podcast truly believes that “Football Is Family” and he is on a mission to share the stories of other fans out there sharing how they have been touched by the greatest sport on Earth. Listen below to the trailer and learn more about the host and show.HOST - JEREMY MCFARLINGrowing up in Middle Tennessee, I didn't have a pro football team that was close enough to me to feel a part of. My first memory of pro football was Super Bowl 22. I picked the Broncos to win, and, even though they didn't win, I followed them from that point on.John Elway was (and is) my favorite player. I have played as the Broncos on Tecmo Bowl, Tecmo Bowl Super Bowl, Madden, and 2K Sports. I fondly remember the moments when the Broncos won Super Bowls 32 and 33.Around this time, the Oilers came to Tennessee. I was hooked. I finally had a team just down the road from my hometown of Bon Aqua. Oiler (and later Titans) mania hit this area. Jerseys, hats, footballs, merchandise, and several autographs later, I'm a Titans fan through and through. It's the dedication, the love, and the passion for football that helps me realize that football is family. Each fan base has a story, a history, and a love for their team. That's what I want to talk about each and every podcast. You can follow me @jeremy_mcfarlin. Message me if you want to share your reasons why your football team is family.

Text us your feedback or questions - we'd love to hear from you.Divorce can feel overwhelming—even when faith is a big part of your life. Many people turn to their church for guidance, but what if you don't feel comfortable talking to your pastor? What if the advice you're given doesn't match up with what you know is best for you and your family? What is there is abuse?  In this episode, Kelly Bennett, Esq., continues her conversation with Denny Brewer—a longtime family law attorney, Executive Pastor, and General Counsel at Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. They explore what faith communities often get wrong—and right—when it comes to divorce (hint: especially if there is abuse involved), how to navigate faith-based guilt, what to do if your place of worship isn't the right fit for support, and why mediation can be the best choice for handling divorce for privacy and mental (and financial!) well-being reasons. Kelly and Denny chat about:Why many people feel uncomfortable discussing divorce with their faith leaders Why pastors and religious leaders should ask, “Is there abuse?”How abuse can go unmentioned and lead to tragedy When to seek professional guidance outside of your faith community Why mediation is often a better option than going to court Why there is no better time to embrace faith and lean into prayer than during divorce Plus, a couple of very surprising stories… Dennis Brewer is longtime family law attorney, and executive pastor and general counsel at Texas mega Church Fellowship Church in Grapevine, Texas. He is the co-author of the new book, Back to Court: A Complete Guide to Child Custody Litigation.  Note: This episode touches on abuse and real-life incidents with unfortunate endings. Key Takeaways from This Episode:The “Shame Factor” in Divorce – Why people feel judged and isolated during divorce—and how to break free from that mindset.Faith's Role in Divorce – How some churches/places of worship get it wrong by ostracizing divorced members—and how others actually provide support and healing. Are You Stuck in Victim Mode? – How to recognize if you're wallowing in self-pity or using your faith to find strength and purpose. The Power of Forgiveness – What true forgiveness really means (and why it's actually for you, not your ex).The Right “They” – Why surrounding yourself with the right people during and after divorce is critical to healing and rebuilding your life.Faith-Based Therapy & Divorce Recovery – Why religious counseling alone may not be enough and how faith-based therapy can help you move forward.Making Your Misery Your Ministry – How your greatest struggle can become your greatest source of strength in helping others. Whether you're the one filing or the one who never wanted the divorce, this chat will help you find strength, clarity, and a way forward.Denny Brewer is an Executive Pastor and General Counsel at Fellowship Church in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and a partner at BrewerLang.  He is the co-author of the new book, Back to Court: A Complete Guide to Child Custody Litigation.  Want more? Prior to the game, legendary slugger Babe Ruth said he'd “give a year of his life to hit a homer” that day. In the bottom of the third inning, two on, two out, the big question was: Could the Babe come through?"  So much great information is found within the books pages.  Go to  https://www.kellybennett.com/ for more information on Kelly Bennett and her books. Nick Wilson AKA Big Unc is a maker of premium sauces and rubs with bottles adorned with very creative artwork.  Nick started out by creating a beautiful backyard kitchen with the intention of being a caterer.  However, town codes changed his plans, he did a 180 by coming up with an alternative and now is the proud owner of the Big Unc brand.  Taken from his website, "We don't measure our ingredients here, and we cook to temp as opposed to cooking to time. The idea is to be comfortable with getting creative and to experiment with new flavor profiles. Fresh groceries and proper preparation are the keys to a great meal!  After years of developing our flavor profiles, we have decided to release our seasoning blends to the world through Big Unc BBQ Rubs."  Go to  https://strongarmbarandgrill.com/  for more information on Big Unc and to order the products.

In today's episode of the "Helping Families Be Happy" podcast, host Christopher Robbins, co-founder of Familius publishing, husband, father of nine, author, fisherman, backpacker, and aspirational musician based in the Central Valley of California, talks to Kelly Bennett. She has been writing professionally for more than 30 years both fiction and nonfiction. Her award-winning picture books included Not Norman a Goldfish Story, Vampire Baby, Your Daddy Was Just Like You and The House That Ruth Built celebrate all that goes into being a kid, families, friends, pets, fun and games.  Episode Highlights 2.00: Today Christopher and Kelly are going to discuss baseball and the history of the original Yankee Stadium and the opening game between the Yankees and Red Sox.  03.20: The Yankees are the team that made baseball the phenomenon it is today. Around the 90's it was America's sport at the time.  04.20: Kelly shares how her grandfather was into baseball. Her grandfather was a semi-pro ballplayer. Later she and her brother started playing, now her kids also play baseball.  05.02: There is geometry in baseball, the statistics are just beyond belief in baseball. Kind of gives us an idea of why baseball has been such a fascinating sport for the American public for well over 100 years.  05.54: Baseball is the one game where anything can happen. Anything that ball can go anywhere. It can be hit, or it cannot be hit. 06.31: This April celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the original Yankee Stadium opening, 08.25: Kelly shares how Babe Ruth changed the game of baseball. People started hearing about Babe Ruth hitting and they started coming to the games just to see if he would hit it. And even when he struck out, they loved it because he put so much into it that he'd spin around beyond. He was a total hand, so it was more about the showman. Because of that, the stadium was built.  09.17: Kelly shares what made Babe Ruth such an iconic figure that transcended time. 11.24: Kelly shares what made her so interested in researching this opening day game and the history behind it. Her book includes the fans, the hawkers, the details of the stadium, and the players. 12.58: Families have these habits that we believe help families be happy. One is Play Together and one learns together. Kelly's book falls within those.  15.14: Playing ball is not about your gender, it's not about your physicality. It's about anybody who can play actual catch, starting with your toddler. 17.07: Kelly shares one story that she loves about Babe Ruth.  19.02: The house that Ruth built comes out in April 2023, the 100-year anniversary of the first game played between the Red Sox and the Yankees on April 1923. 3 Key Points Kelly shares why she is so interested in baseball and what is her history with baseball.  Kelly explains how Babe Ruth was able to draw all by himself, triple and five times and 10 times the fans that any other stadium, including the archrivals, then New York Giants, was drawing.  Kelly shares how she thinks the family could benefit from and how they could use the house that Ruth built to play and learn besides just reading the story. Tweetable Quotes “We love baseball, but you got to hate somebody, whoever you are playing against. I guess that's the way it goes.” - Kelly “Anybody can play baseball. It's easy to get. All you need is a ball and a bat, and you can start playing baseball.” - Kelly In Kelley's book, there are sidebars that have facts of baseball historically. You can bring together your intergenerationally. Because kids today have no idea what the world was like 100 years ago.” – Kelly “Football is very controversial right now. You need a ball that's a certain shape you need to feel there's the plays are really much more set. Basketball, you need a hoop. Baseball, all you need is two people, or one person throw it up in the air they catch.” - Kelley “A lot of people think Babe Ruth was an orphan. He wasn't an orphan. However, when he was seven years old, his parents put him into a boy's school for incorrigible children, for orphans and some put there by the state. In his case, he was put there by his family.” - Kelly  Resources Mentioned Pre-order now: https://www.familius.com/book/the-house-that-ruth-built/ Helping Families be Happy Podcast Apple https://www.kellybennett.com/ Podcast Editing

We're switching things up on this holiday episode of She Doesn't Settle.  My good friend and creative genius, Kelly Bennett, suggested a few weeks back that I should be interviewed on my own podcast, so that's just what we did today. You're going to love Kelly - she's a great interviewer who asks some really wonderful questions that just might shed some further light on who I am and why I do what I do.  So listen in as Kelly and I discuss the present, losing faith in quick fixes, and familiar myths about ambitious women. Today's episode was certainly a fun one for me.  With Kelly B playing the role of host, we thought it would be helpful to share a few of my many She Doesn't Settle moments.  Battling an eating disorder and leaving a toxic marriage (with 2 little ones in tow)  are just a couple of the many experiences I have overcome and which I share with the audience today.  As a Type A individual who used to feel like she wasn't doing enough, but who went on to become the strong woman who now celebrates the little wins, I want to show you that there is hope for all of us, even if it doesn't feel that way.  Most importantly, though, I want to remind you all that it isn't too late to change, and quite frankly it never will be.   The Finer Details of This Episode:  The impact of settling Kelly's catalyst Career and relationship challenges Focusing on today Why it's not too late Myths about ambition and sacrifice Losing faith in quick fixes Finding what motivates you Celebrating little wins   Quotes:  ‘I was so obsessed with the validation of succeeding, of showing my worth, and my value that I didn't even hear the, ‘You're not happy… You're settling in these areas.” “I never actually did that internal work to recover. So for the next 12 years, I still battled with the eating disorder. I relapsed multiple times and just really struggled with letting go and being able to recover. It wasn't until I got pregnant with my first son where I really realized, ‘Okay, holy sh*t, Kelly, you have got to figure this out.'” “Anybody who's been in an abusive relationship knows that it's really easy to feel like it's your fault, because they do a good job of making you think it's your fault.” “We do a really good job of convincing ourselves that we should have already done it; Like there's no time anymore.  I'm sorry, but unless you are like 95, and maybe even that is not a fair statement, you can still make change.” “The Enneagram has been a part of my coaching practice for the last three years because it is a tool that allows me to understand who I'm working with, but also to support my clients in understanding who they are, validating who they are.” “We are conditioned to set goals based on what society tells us we should want or what is ingrained in us from childhood.” “I will tell you that those little goals lead to very big changes, because both of those women ended up making even bigger leaps with other parts of their lives as a result of these small goals.” “How awesome is it that you don't have to do it alone anymore? For so many ambitious women, we tend to take everything on ourselves.”   Links: She Doesn't Settle Podcast She Doesn't Settle - The Experience Instagram: www.instagram.com/shedoesntsettle/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/withkellytravis/ One-on-One Coaching & Group Sessions

They talk about ways to donate artifacts to the WCU through contacts with the university itself or Jason himself. Any materials pertaining to regional history is welcome to the WCU's collection.Segment 4After the break, Joseph asks Jason what kind of dogs and hobbies he may have. Jason characterizes his dogs as enjoying the same things he does like taking hikes and exploring the trails. This brings the discussion to his favorite hikes and trails for people and their pets. Many parts of the park have different rules on the topic of bringing pets so make sure you read the rules beforehand. Joseph then asks Jason's ideal itinerary for Jackson County. The day begins with breakfast with coffee, spending time on the parkway, eating lunch at South Philly, and heading to Frog's Leap for a few drinks or to the best brewery, according to Jason, Innovation. The day concludes with heading to Asheville, and underground speakeasies. Finally, Jason finishes off the show with a WCU promotion.

THA 124 These guys brought their A game and really were extremely transparent about their own personal story. The panel’s message resonated and was on point about coaching and accountability. There is a lot of talk in the industry as to the value of an accountability partner or coach. It is a personal decision. It is not for everyone, but this summit will help you resolve some of your very own concerns and help you make a decision. Barry Barrett covers the premise of the book that builds a foundation for negotiation on the basis of understanding the other party through empathy and active listening skills. During Barry’s career as a Service Manager and top salesperson, he honed his talents in communicating with people. Barry is tireless in his pursuit of excellence in the automotive industry and in all that he does. His passion for providing tools to train owners and their teams to the next level is unlimited. He is a Ziglar Legacy Certified Coach. He attended a trade school, graduating at the top of his class and went right to work as a tech in a prestigious Porsche/Audi dealership in Cape Cod.  Kevin continued his dealership work when he moved to NY and eventually came to work for two brothers who owned Foreign Car Specialists, Poughkeepsie, NY.  When the owners retired in 1995, Kevin bought the business and the rest is history. Your Learning Curve Never Sounded This Good. The Panel: Jonathan Ortiz is the son of Foreign Affairs Auto’s founders Frank and Gloria Ortiz. He has an MBA from Northeastern Boston and is currently the general manager of the shop. He is the brother of the two-time Olympic soccer player, Melissa Ortiz and she works in the marketing department. His passion is customer service and he got this passion to serve from his family. His family created the culture of giving what you can. He is joined by a talented team of managers, technicians, and service staff. Learn of Jonathan’s previous episodes (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=jonathan+ortiz) . Carlo Sabucco started in 1994 after attending several years at Ryerson University for business. Thereafter graduated Mohawk college Automotive Tech Program.  Carlo has devoted a great amount of time surrounding himself with some of the greatest shop owners in the market. Over the years, Carlo attended training from Bob Greenwood to Cecil Bullard, Dave Schedin, Elite and group process with Jim Murphy, thru to Kelly Bennett, now he is with ShopPros. Learn of Carlo’s Previous episodes HERE (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=Sabucco) . Peter Foreman from Integra Tire, Second Generation Shop Owner, 39 Years old from Langley, BC. Peter literally grew up in the shop. As a baby, there was a cot in the office while his mom Cheryl did the books! Taking his Dad Dave’s beliefs and expanding on them, Peter went out and made a career on his own in the auto parts industry before deciding to come back and help his family bring the shop into the next age of auto service and repair in 2005. Peter is happily married with two children. His children love to visit the shop as well. Maybe there will be a third generation one day! Learn of Peter’s Previous episodes HERE (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22Peter+Foreman%22) .   Key Talking Points: Ghosting happens with all age brackets but seems most prevalent between 22-36 ages. You are always wondering what you did wrong. There are fixes you can make and all areas of the recruitment process must be available. Do you have a broken process? Stronger ads. A consistent message that flows right through the interview process and into your culture. The interview process is more a social process. The process of how we tour the shop when you go to the office, do not sit behind the desk should be all choreographed. You can lose people within the first day or week because how you explained the culture of the business is the exact opposite. They were oversold. Your team needs to know how important they are in onboarding. Peter actually had a group interview (roundtable) for a service adviser job. Jonathan likes to do a working interview with a technician candidate. He says he has a high paced rockin’ roll environment. Looking for the candidate to spend one day at the shop. Looking for multitasking even though he will be shadowing another tech. Jonathan is recruiting for top technician talent and his candidate base already have jobs. We’ve got to get them over their fears to change At the end stages of the timeline to arrive is where he had lost a new hire. Look to hire faster than the typical two weeks. See if the candidate can start within a week. Some new hires that have ghosted Carlo were never to be heard of again. Suggested to track down a no-show and keep them on your bench. Things change. Don’t give up on who you felt would be a rock star. Red Carpet: Build up to the excitement. Set up their space in your place. Talk about joining the family. Create an emotional connection Build enthusiasm for them coming on-board. You are offering a rare opportunity. People don’t leave our company....

Offering Repairs On All Makes & Models, Gas And Diesel. Paul Marquardt Started in this business in 1979 as a pump jockey and lube tech. Paul attended various training over the years, some of it daytime training 4 hours travel time. He bought the business Northwoods Auto Techs, Rhinelander, WI, in 1990 and in 1995 expanded from 2 bays to 5 bays and became a NAPA Autocare center at the same time. He was the NAPA Stevens Point NAPA ASE Tech of the Year from 1999 through 2008 and was the National NAPA ASE Tech of the Year for 2010. Paul Joined the NAPA Autotech training team around 2011 as a contract trainer and have been doing that as well as keeping the business going.  Key Talking Points: Daytime training model A fresh set of eyes, after a nights rest, delivers better knowledge transfer. Dealerships are doing daytime. Young technicians want to know what your training commitment is. They want to know if they’ll be paid to go to training. They want work-life balance. They don’t live to work they work to live. We need to schedule effectively when we lose a technician to daytime training If the shop owners commit to daytime training the training companies will be there to meet that demand. Night Time Training We need to change the culture of training. Night time is not working. So many in the class have half mast eyelids. How much training are they getting. Overall message We need to move to a competency training model Training costs too much. Some shops don’t budget for training Technicians need to be compensated for attending training no matter what time of day. Training is a differentiator when hiring and keeping technicians Training is an investment not an expense Schedule around daytime training. Don’t put your shop in a hole when a technician is at training. No different than the sudden sick day. Private training is being done in local markets A group of owners are pooling their money and hiring a top training. Get about 10 shops in the market to split the cost Requiring hands on training, as this become a trend. Smaller groups get a better experience You need a learning plan for your team It must be based on need In small bite size segments Training must be attacked with a strategy and a plan Having a strong training culture can bring potential techs who want to work for you to your business Do your techs know why they are going to training? We need to challenge ourselves and the industry trainers to bring more daytime and hands-on training Hands on is critical after a class. Owner needs to ask

Where do you want business to go? Aligning yourself with right people to grow business? What is your 3-5 year goal? There are many great stores of support and friendship in our industry. This is Mark Bergasse’s story. He owns Marks Auto Service in Oakville, ON, Canada. Mark encountered chest pains over a few months, did a stress test and found out that he had a mild heart attack and was scheduled for a quadruple heart bypass.  With this, he had no plans of being out of his shop for surgery or recovery. His wife, Sandy knew she needed a plan, that didn’t exist.  What happened next is the story you are about to hear. As if providence lent its hand, Glenn Colling of Eastside Auto Service in Oakville, ON, Todd Sarson of Stop N Go Automotive, Burlington, ON and Carlo Sabucco of Sils Complete Auto Care Centre in Oakville, ON  came to the rescue. They ran the business for Mark and Sandy while Mark recovered. The strong culture already in place provided a smooth transition while Mark recovered. There are some very strong and valuable lessons to think about as a business owner when and if you or your business would ever have to deal with a health or some other type of challenge or disaster. You need to have a contingency plan. This episode, I hope, will open your eyes to do something about it because you think it will never happen to you. The Panel: Mark Bergasse started in this great trade pumping gas at a full serve station and then moved into the bays to start his automotive training.  He later graduated from Mohawk College and completed my Apprenticeship. In 1995 Mark’s dream came true and he opened his own shop and Mark’s Auto Service was born!  Mark expanded to our present location in 2006 with 7 service bays and a larger showroom. He has been taking care of people and their cars for over 38 years. Every day is a new challenge and every day Mark loves to help people. Today Carlo operates Sils Complete Auto Care Centre, a successful 8 bay facility, approx 7,000 square feet on the east side of Oakville, Ontario. Carlo’s own close competitors are his greatest friends like Mark and Glenn from the Podcast.  Mark says that his business would never be what it is without these business owners. Glenn Colling is a graduate of Northwood University, Cedar Hill Texas. He is the owner of Eastside Auto Service in Oakville, ON with two locations. Glenn created and developed the “Auto Repair Shop-In-A-Box” that is used to teach children a skill and support the Village of Hope in Burkina Faso West Africa. Glenn has a busy home life as he and his wife Lisa have three children of their own, and provide foster care for over 33 newborns to date. Todd Sarson was born and raised in Burlington Ontario where he attended Notre Dame High School. Todd developed an interest in vehicles and just about anything hands-on at a very early age. With that interest, Todd then went on to trades school at Mohawk college and further advanced his automotive knowledge. Todd then joined the Stop N GO team in 2004 as a trusted service advisor and then worked his way to the service manager, and now the owner.  In his spare time, Todd can be found dirt biking, skateboarding, swimming, or playing hockey.   (http://eepurl.com/bhqME9) Be socially involved and in touch with the show: Speaking (https://remarkableresults.biz/speaking) This episode is brought to you by Federal-MogulMotorparts and Garage Gurus.
