The Lexus TX solves an important problem for Lexus – it gives the brand an upscale, large people mover. This three-row crossover joined the Lexus brand at the end of 2023 as a 2024 model-year vehicle and is the cousin of the Toyota Grand Highlander. The Lexus TX also packs a variety of powertrains, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4, a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 that works with a hybrid system, and the top-flight 3.5-liter V6 that works with the plug-in hybrid system. This particular tester slots under the TX 500h+ trim which moves by way of the turbocharged 2.4-cylinder hybrid powertrain. On the Toyota side of the dealership, your three-row options open up. Sure, you can snag a Grand Highlander or Sienna, or you can move to the body-on-frame Sequoia. Based on the latest TNGA-F architecture, the latest Sequoia follows the same pattern as the new Tundra. That means it packs a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood that works with the i-Force Max hybrid system to throw 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, host Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about these two three-row people movers. The pair talk about their respective experiences with each of these distinctly different people movers, and discuss their merits. Closing the show, the pair decide which one of these two three-row machines they'd want to throw into their driveway.

In Podcast #322, John Davis and the MotorWeek crew discuss how the Lincoln Nautilus midsize luxury utility sees impressive new styling and technology inside and out, while Lexus shakes up their lineup with an all-new three-row crossover…the TX, and Rivian introduces not one…but TWO new models with plans to make them at more affordable prices. Plus a Lightning Round to discuss how your driving data may be used against you and a viewer has a question on the upcoming electric Mini Cooper!
It may be St Particks Day, but our hosts are driving anything but green rides. Benjamin starts this weeks show off with a discussion of the 2024 Lexus TX 350, an all new model in the Lexus lineup, but one that feels pretty familiar to anyone who's checked out the Toyota Grand Highlander. While this three-row is more competent than past offerings by Lexus, Benjamin shares his concerns about whether this is a worthy option in this class, and what to do about its troublesome user-interface and weird driver-facing-video recordings. Then the guys talk about some weird fake heavy-duty trucks, and this history behind such a strange trend in the automotive industry. Who's heard of the Big 10, or Heavy Half before? It was certainly an eye-opener for our enthusiastic hosts. Thanks for listening!
Sure, the Ford Maverick isn't the most manly truck on the block. In fact, some people have the effrontery to call it a “toy truck.” But Co-Host Chris Teague came to a completely different conclusion when he road-tested the 2024 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid in the grueling throes of a Maine winter. We'll have his report on proving his manhood in this episode. At the same time, Host Jack Nerad and his family were about 60 degrees warmer as they tested the 2024 Lexus TX 500h F Sport AWD in yet another drive to the desert of the Coachella Valley. The Lexus TX is the answer to many a luxury SUV buyer's ardent wishes. It's a true three-row vehicle with seating for six or seven. And the passengers in the third row are not relegated to the automotive equivalent of the Gulag. Nerad will have a complete evaluation of the vehicle, including its hybrid drivetrain, in this show. The news this week is led by the just-announced Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Picks for 2024. We'll tell you all you need to know about those choices, including our comments. Toyota has announced a fascinating alternative to electric vehicles that could be revolutionary…or could be a flash in the pan. They are touting a new technology that isn't just carbon neutral; it actually sucks carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere. You probably never guessed your car would be competing with your house plants for air, but that's the future for you. We'll tell you more coming up. Also newsworthy is the fact Elon Musk is now looking to disrupt the supercar market with an all-new Tesla Roadster. Of course, the Roadster was the first Tesla model so very long ago, and now he's thumping the tub on a new hot rod. We'll deliver our thoughts on the matter. This week our special guest is Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power. If you want to know which cars are reliable and which aren't, Frank Hanley is the guy to talk to. J.D. Power has just released its 2024 Vehicle Dependability Study, and he'll tell us all about it. The findings are coming up. All that and more are headed your way on America on the Road. Lexus has expanded its SUV line with the all-new TX, a three-row model that shares its dimensions and many mechanical bits with the new Toyota Grand Highlander. On this episode we share our initial impressions of the 2024 Lexus TX and discuss its driving characteristics, luxurious interior, controls, and three different powertrains offered by Lexus, including a V6 plug-in hybrid. We give advice on what to do when a car lease comes to an end: buy the car out; trade it in for a new model; or walk away. Also, we answer if PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles) are cheaper or more expensive to operate and maintain than the all-electric and internal combustion engine vehicles. To get the family over the river and through the woods, the 3-row Lexus TX will get the job done with a premium attitude. Available in three models (350, 500h Hybrid and 550h+ PHEV), it seats up to seven. And yes, adults can sit in the wayback. Built on the same platform as Toyota Grand Highlander, the TX is assembled in Indiana. Tom Voelk checks out the entire lineup in Austin, Texas and finds there are some key differences between each powertrain. Lexus provided transportation and lodging for this TX event. Opinions remain purely Tom's.

The 2024 Lexus TX three-row crossover might prompt some luxury SUV buyers to wonder why Lexus hasn't had a vehicle like it before. The good news is Lexus has it now, and it promises to be a strong competitor to other three-row luxury crossovers like the Acura MDX. Host Jack Nerad had the opportunity to test the vehicle at its American launch outside Austin, Texas, and he came away impressed. Its spacious interior, up-to-the-minute technology tech, and multiple powertrains give the TX all it needs to compete in its very competitive segment. The Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, and Infiniti QX60 each have their strong points, but the Lexus TX seems to have encapsulated the factors that luxury crossover buyers want most. Smooth-riding and extremely quiet, the 2024 TX might not outrun some of its rivals on the racetrack, but it does deliver the space and comfort buyers demand. The TX also offers a fascinating selection of powertrains — a turbocharged four-cylinder, a hybrid that combines a turbocharged four-cylinder with electric motors, and a plug-in hybrid that teams a V6 with electric motors. Add four-wheel-steer in some trims, and you have a technological tour de force. In our other road test, Co-Host Chris Teague took the wheel of the scintillating BMW M2. Small, agile, and supremely powerful, the M2 proved to be a more than willing partner as Teague tore his way across southern Maine. In this episode, he'll have a full report. In the news this week, Honda is bringing back the popular Civic Hybrid compact sedan, and it promises to be better than ever. Honda was long a hybrid skeptic, but in the past couple of years, it has changed its tune and now embraces hybrid technology. Its Accord and CR-V hybrid models are bestsellers in the brand, so you can see why Honda execs are bullish on the Civic Hybrid. Some major carmakers are far less bullish about the prospects for battery-electric vehicles. Spurred by federal, state, and local regulations, most automakers have invested billions in electric vehicle tech. Not only have they introduced scores of new EVs, but they have even more waiting in the wings. Now, though, they are facing the reality of the market, and the prospects are less than encouraging. We'll give you our take on this conundrum in this episode. Kia is an example of a carmaker that has swallowed the EV Kool-Aid. The Korean brand has just introduced a trio of lower-cost electric vehicles in Asia as it tries to reach its goal of selling one million EVs by 2026. We'll tell you if we can expect to see any of them in the U.S. soon. Our special guests this week have a fascinating new concept that can provide peace of mind to the millions of Americans who buy vehicles from private parties each year. Ed Brojerdi and Craig Nehamen are co-founders and co-CEOs of Caramel, a company they designed to relieve the many pain points of buying a car from an individual. From dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles to offering service contracts, Caramel can help private buyers and sellers make beautiful music together … or at the very least, complete car transactions hassle-free. Please tune in for their conversation with host Jack Nerad. In this episode Alex and Tim discuss the new Lexus TX three row SUV. Which trims are a good idea and where Lexus went wrong with their new family hauler. We also cover the new point of sale tax credits and what we know now.
On the latest podcast, Nicole spends some time driving the BMW M2 coupe and all its sports car fun. She also heasd to Texas for some BBQ and to drive the all-new Lexus TX SUV with three-rows of seating that make it perfect for a family road trip Links: Terry Black's BBQ: https://terryblacksbbq.com/
No, we haven't driven the Nissan Hyper Adventure concept yet. As a digital concept, it doesn't offer anything to drive. But we were so struck by its out-of-this-world good looks that we had to cover it in this week's news segment. Nissan says the object of this all-electric concept vehicle is “to accommodate the outdoorsperson's diverse needs.” One way it does that is with its large-capacity battery that can serve as an energy source in the wild. Instead of carting jerry cans, future off-roaders will tote giant batteries with them to power up their devices, light up their campsites, and recharge battery-powered boats and personal watercraft. Nissan's e-4orce all-wheel-control system helps ensure that Hyper Adventure occupants reach their destinations safely. For extra traction, the Hyper Adventure's wheels and bumpers are outfitted with crampons to enable the vehicle to transverse snow-covered tundra. The interior features space for tents, skis, and even a kayak. We're excited to take our first virtual drive through a virtual forest soon. On the real road test front, Host Jack Nerad will describe his experiences behind the futuristic wheel of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 battery-electric sedan. Based on the same platform as the Ioniq 5 crossover utility, the Ioniq 6 combines unique styling with a pleasant driving experience. Nerad will have the details in this episode. Our other road test this week gave Co-Host Chris Teague the opportunity to experience the 2024 Mazda CX-90 plug-in hybrid sport utility. A three-row vehicle that follows in the footsteps of the popular CX-9, the new CX-90 features a winning exterior design and Mazda's typically upscale interior treatment. Speaking of upscale, three-row vehicles, Lexus has just introduced a vehicle we predict will be a major hit. It's the Lexus TX crossover utility that is getting heavy TV advertising support these days. Host Jack Nerad got the chance to drive it and then discuss it with Lexus product information expert Richard Hollingsworth, and we'll have that interview for you in this show. Also in this show, new rules could extend federal tax credits on electric vehicles to more buyers. And they'll get the incentive sooner. We'll have details on that major change. Tesla has lowered its prices again as it races to hit sales targets for 2023. We'll let you how much you could save. And there's more news about Elon Musk, too. It turns out he isn't just rich; he's also in a lot of legal scrapes. We'll tell you all about it in America on the Road's True Crime Files - Auto Edition, which we'll be serving up in this episode. Une émission chargée cette semaine alors que Marc s'est rendu en Utah faire l'essai du Jeep Wrangler, alors que William allait à Détroit assister au dévoilement du Cadillac XT4. Lexus has just unveiled two all-new vehicles that promise to shake up the burgeoning luxury SUV market in the United States. We were there for the “double feature” event where the Japanese luxury brand unveiled the all-new 2024 Lexus GX and the all-new 2024 Lexus TX. Staying connected while we are in our cars is critical for many of us. Now a new study shows just how important that is to American consumers and to the carmakers and data providers that are vying tooth and nail for what is predicted to be a giant market. We'll have details on that coming up. And just when you thought there were no more three-row SUVs to talk about, we have another for you. Buick has shown us a glimpse of the heavily revised 2024 Envision, and we'll tell you more. In the road test segment, Co-Host Chris Teague will describe his week-long experience with the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Host Jack Nerad will discuss the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E, the all-electric Mustang crossover SUV. Our special guest this week is Jamie Zinser, Vice President, Global Automotive, Novelis Inc., and a prime mover in a consortium called Alumobility. Jack Nerad recently had a chance to talk with her about the value of using aluminum rather than steel in automobiles. Electric vehicles might well be the biggest beneficiaries of that. I'm certain you'll enjoy what she has to say. Jill and Tom opened a topic-packed episode by discussing a listener's request for more donut content. Jill later obliged with a quick take on an iced strawberry ring from a local donut shop Tom refused to name. (Long story.) Jill went on to recap the news from a Lexus event at which the all-new GX midsize SUV and TX 3-row midsize crossover were introduced. Tom shared a quick note regarding the updated 2024 Subaru Crosstrek, observing that the vehicle's engine stop/start system is vastly improved over previous versions of the system. Jill also announced that she has been added to the Women's World Car of the Year jury. AutoPacifc analyst Robby Degraff joined the show in the second segment. Robby explained the reasons behind General Motors' decision to drop Apple CarPlay from future products, specifically EVs, including the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer. Robby also discussed the significance of Ford and General Motors teaming up with Tesla to provided EV owners with a more reliable and expansive fast-charging network. Jill is subjected to Tom's “Women!” quiz, being tasked to identify the auto brands most popular with female new-car shoppers. Tom recently posted a review of the BMW X1 subcompact crossover, which he discussed briefly before wrapping up the show. We also discuss Volkswagen's recently announced plans to revive the International Scout SUV as a pure-electric off-road vehicle. Robert Duffer, Senior Editor with The Car Connection, joins us to chat about Toyota's rumored plans to introduce Lexus TX and Toyota Grand Highlander 3-row crossovers, and his preview test-drive experience in Ford's new F-150 Lightning EV pickup. Tom has a "rules of the road" quiz for Damon and Jill, and Damon runs down the latest articles on the Consumer Guide Daily Drive blog, including a test-drive review of the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.

Meanwhile Sam describes his disappointment with the Nissan Z Nismo, at least as a sports car for the street. We also have a first drive review of the new Chevrolet Equinox EV, which despite GM's claims is most definitely not a compact but it is very good. We have first looks at the production Jeep Wagoneer S and Cadillac Optiq.
