Twisters, power and internet outages meant no podcast on Tuesday, but Kelly and Lizz are back and ready to get into what's been going on. First, Kelly is recapping her family trip to Arizona. "It's an easy three-hour flight!" Not so much when you have four kids in tow! When did families lose the respect on planes and kids are considered an inconvenience? Kelly and Lizz have some hot takes on traveling with your kids that they need to share.  Then, it's time to catch up with Lizz and baby Sloan's formula intolerance. They finally got a diagnosis on exactly what is going on and this is going to be more difficult to navigate than anticipated. What makes it harder is Lizz's breast milk supply is going down and when that's all Sloan can take it's become pretty stressful. Luckily, Kelly and some other kind souls have come to the rescue! There will be some tears shed during this conversation.  To lighten the mood, Kelly and Lizz take you into their bank accounts with Last Three Transactions. Kelly started with buying the $8 wifi on her flight, which ended up costing her much more after all the online shopping! Easter pjs anyone? She has also continued on her press-on nail journey and is now venturing into the world of red sneakers. Lizz is investing in many items to help Sloan's feeding journey including a new breast pump, nursing bras and a bottle warmer. Plus, she's getting ahead on the summer rush and braving the bathing suit section at Old Navy.  In Industry News, Kelly gives her review on the new Hyundai Santa Fe. Did they have enough room for the entire family and all their luggage? Not so much. Also, ever wonder what would happen if you got to empty on your gas gauge? Car and Driver put the Toyota Grand Highlander to the test to see how many miles they could actually get when it says you have zero miles left.  Finally, in Ditch the Drive-Thru Lizz is all about the viral beef bowl trend while Kelly fills us in on what she is cooking on her Blackstone!  Learn more about your ad choices. The Lexus TX solves an important problem for Lexus – it gives the brand an upscale, large people mover. This three-row crossover joined the Lexus brand at the end of 2023 as a 2024 model-year vehicle and is the cousin of the Toyota Grand Highlander. The Lexus TX also packs a variety of powertrains, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4, a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 that works with a hybrid system, and the top-flight 3.5-liter V6 that works with the plug-in hybrid system. This particular tester slots under the TX 500h+ trim which moves by way of the turbocharged 2.4-cylinder hybrid powertrain.  On the Toyota side of the dealership, your three-row options open up. Sure, you can snag a Grand Highlander or Sienna, or you can move to the body-on-frame Sequoia. Based on the latest TNGA-F architecture, the latest Sequoia follows the same pattern as the new Tundra. That means it packs a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood that works with the i-Force Max hybrid system to throw 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission.   On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, host Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about these two three-row people movers. The pair talk about their respective experiences with each of these distinctly different people movers, and discuss their merits. Closing the show, the pair decide which one of these two three-row machines they'd want to throw into their driveway.

Lizz is over being on the wrong side of Instagram and is here to share her scary mom moment in a safe space. One thing about this new mama, if her baby is locked in the car, a window's getting shattered. Mattie shares a little marine wisdom: “If I second thought every decision I made in a high stress situation, I would never sleep at night.” Wrapping up driveway dumps, Lizz is watching and highly recommends Apple TV Lessons in Chemistry and she's just begun reading Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff.  One resolution we could all work on this year is getting a hold of our subscription services and saving money. Kelly recommends checking out a new Ford Edge or a Santa Fe, Rav4, Atlas Crossport or Tiguan.  In industry news, the Car Mom's car of the year is almost here and today Kelly's announcing the four finalists. Vehicles that got a refresh, redesign, or new release were eligible. Kelly evaluated each vehicle on comfort, safety, value, technology, passenger capabilities to narrow down the list. The four finalists are: the 2023/24 Honda Pilot, the 2023 Toyota Grand Highlander, the 2023 Lexus TX and the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas.  Kelly shares some time-saving Costco finds for today's ditch the drive-through. Sami talks about the highs, lows and more importantly, the competition of this Mercedes, and whether or not you should check it out. Then Benjamin brings up the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, a larger three-row crossover from the Japanese automaker, and one he wonders might kill the non-Grand Highlander altogether. With decent size, fuel efficiency and pricing, the Grand Highlander seems like a winning combination, but Benjamin's experience with the vehicle's safety systems gives him some pauses about recommending it. Finally, the guys discuss a news story about Kia Canada witholding deliveries of cars this year, before answering a listener's question about electric vehicles. In this special direct from North American Car of the Year testing in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Host Jack Nerad and frequent Guest Host Matt DeLorenzo discuss the many candidates for three of the most prestigious honors in autodom. Nerad is currently vice president of the North American Car of the Year jury. DeLorenzo has served on the jury for decades. Each year, the 50-member jury composed of renowned industry experts evaluates all the new-to-the-market vehicles to determine which deserve the title North American Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year, and North American Utility of the Year. As part of a rigorous test schedule, the jury convenes in Michigan near the Motor City of Detroit to drive and evaluate the contenders for the honors in each of the categories. The competition is stiff, and the potential for disagreements is many. With electrics, hybrids, and conventionally powered vehicles in each category, the jurors get a chance to weigh the positives and negatives in real-world driving. The car of the year field includes mainstream cars like the Honda Accord and exotic newcomers like the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. The truck field includes stalwarts like the Ford SuperDuty and new-tech wonders like the Chevrolet Silverado EV. The utility group includes conventional SUVs like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander, plus dedicated electric vehicles like the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. The following is a complete list of the 2024 North American Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility of the Year semi-finalists that Jack Nerad and Matt DeLorenzo will discuss in this week's hour-long special on the competition. There's seating for up to 8, and for the first time, adults are okay to ride in the wayback. All that and the price premium is easy to swallow. First up this week, Sami explains the theory behind the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, and whether Grand is a title that is earned through service and recognition, or just one that is bestowed due to size. This new Toyota boasts three rows of seats, three different powertrains and a cool new infotainment system, but Sami points out a few concerns he has with this pricey crossover. Then Benjamin takes a tangent to talk about the 2023 Lexus RX 350h, one of the luxury brands most popular products that has recently been redesigned. Is this the same crossover with a new look, or has Lexus introduced any new wrinkles to its best seller? Finally, the conversation pivots to one about towing with driver assistance, as Benjamin describes his recent experience hauling his track car while piloting a Cadillac Escalade with Super Cruise. And of course, just for fun, the guys talk about some weird BMW news. Thanks for listening! Don't forget to subscribe, and send us a note through social media or our website!

Jill and Tom opened the show discussing home remedies their parents and grand parents believed in. The hosts agreed that saltines and 7-Up were understood to cure almost anything. Tom noted that his dad was a firm believer in the curative power of Jägermeister. (Jill is under the weather, hence the remedy chat.) The discussion finally turned automotive, and Jill shared her thoughts on the heavily updated Honda Accord, with which she is very impressed. The new Accord features a trimmed down lineup, but more hybrid models. Jill and Tom also discussed the new Dodge Hornet compact crossover, which Jill seems to like a little more than Tom, though both agree the newest Dodge is fun to drive.   In the second segment Jill and Tom welcome Brant Combs, Ram head of marketing, to the podcast. Brant discussed the Ram Revolution electric pickup-truck concept, which was first seen at CES in January, and the production RAM REV electric pickup. Brant talked about the RAM REV's role in the expanding EV market place, and hinted at exciting powertrain news to come. Jill was subjected to Tom's “1995 or 2000” quiz, after which Jill finally shared her impressions of the all-new, three-row, Toyota Grand Highlander midsize crossover.

Jill and Tom opened the show discussing the recent Midwest Automotive Media Association (MAMA) Spring Rally, and a couple of the vehicles Jill drove at the event held annually at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Jill was most impressed by the redesigned 2024 Chevrolet Trax, which after a one-year hiatus has returned redesigned to anchor the Chevrolet lineup. Jill also spent time with the Lucid Air premium electric sedan. Jill and Tom also briefly discussed Ford's plan for brand EV owners to access the Tesla charging network. Jill and Tom will discuss further the ramifications of this deal at a later date. In the second segment the crew welcome Jan Hansen, Vice President of Growth at FINN Automotive to the show. FINN provides vehicle “subscription” services that work something like a lease, but offer a single monthly fee for all related vehicle-operation costs, including taxes and insurance. Jan explained how a subscription might serve vehicle shoppers better than ownership or leasing. Subscriptions can be for terms as short as six months. Segment three opened with Jill being subjected to a difficult Saturn (the car brand) quiz. Afterwards Jill and Tom discussed the all-new, 3-row, Toyota Grand Highlander. Tom also talked about his latest review, a test drive of the Toyota bZ4X electric compact crossover.

Charlie briefly reminisces on his time in Hawaii with the 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander, but Chris didn't seem too interested, so they quickly moved on. From there, they previewed the cars for this week, including a 2023 Kia EV6 GT, 2023 Nissan Sentra SR, and a 2023 Volkswagen Golf GTI SE 6MT.
