Personally, It was one of the most eye-opening and soul searching experiences I've ever had. I felt totally safe, welcomed and appreciated in the group. I felt a strong connection with all of the women and learned something about each and every one of them. I also enjoyed the various outdoor activities from yoga to drum circles and just fell in love with the magic of Sedona. I highly recommend!" - 2023 Attendee "The retreat leader picked a really great group of women - all of us got along great and that in of itself is pretty amazing!" - 2023 Attendee "I feel like I got exactly what I needed out of this retreat. I truly came back a changed person and even though I have not had the time to meditate or prioritize self care since I've come home, I have more control of my emotions. I feel so in sync with my voice and emotional state of being that I would not had otherwise. I have found grace in my words and actions and can't thank you enough Lindsey for providing such a safe space where I was able to process and LEAVE my past in the most magical place in the world." - 2023 Attendee "The writing activity on the last morning moved me in such a grand way. As I wrote the most loving way to a random person to choose joy, it struck me how profoundly it is to have the answers to feel better yet I've only allowed this wisdom to be for others. Taking responsibility for my actions was the biggest insight I gained on this retreat. Thank you!" - 2023 Attendee ------------------------------------------ Want to share your story or nominate a mental health professional for our monthly clinician spotlight? Back in September of 2022, I held the first annual Strenuous Life Retreat at the renowned Zapata Ranch in Colorado's San Luis Valley. The retreat consisted of five days of adventure and education inspired by Theodore Roosevelt's well-known commitment to living “the Strenuous Life.” We hiked high into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, rode horses in Great Sand Dunes National Park, and enjoyed world-class meals. And each afternoon, we enjoyed facilitated conversations about land stewardship, conservation, and regenerative agriculture. This episode is a recording of one of those conversations. - I was honored to be joined by conservation veteran Nancy Fishbein, who serves as Director of Resilient Lands for the Colorado Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Nancy has been a long-standing leader in the Western conservation community, so we were all honored that she took time out of her full schedule to join us and share some stories and hard-earned wisdom. The Zapata Ranch is owned by the Nature Conservancy and managed by Ranchlands, so Nancy has a unique insight into the history of the ranch, as well as the importance of conservation in the San Luis Valley. - We recorded this conversation at the ranch's education center, one afternoon after a morning of horseback riding. The first half consists of me asking the questions, and the second half consists of questions from the retreat participants. We cover everything from the history of the Zapata Ranch to the establishment of Great Sand Dunes National Park, which adjoins the ranch to the north. We talk about the conservation bison herd that calls the ranch home, and some of the ongoing challenges in the San Luis Valley created by water speculation and development. We discuss how mineral rights development can coexist with conservation, the protection of biodiversity on ranches, how TNC and the National Park Service work together, and much more. As you'll hear, everyone in attendance was super engaged and curious about Nancy's work, and it showed in the range of interesting and thoughtful questions. - I hope this episode will give you a bit of insight into the types of conversations we had at the 2022 Retreat and the kind of conversations you can expect in 2023 and beyond. Colorado is blessed to have so many committed conservationists like Nancy who devote their time and energy to protecting and stewarding these spectacular landscapes, and I can't thank Nancy enough for taking the time to join us. - If you're interested in joining me for the 2023 Retreat, as of this recording, there are still a few spots left. This episode is the teaching from Mark Larson from the Rhythms of Life Retreat on April 22nd, 2023. The retreat was focusing on the category of our Mind.So what is Rhythms of Life all about? The rhythms of your life are the regular patterns and schedule by which you live your life. We all have them whether we realize it or not. We all have regular things we do and regular seasonal rhythms throughout the year. The question then becomes not if we have Rhythms of Life but rather what are our rhythms and who or what are they serving? As followers of Jesus, we are to be his apprentices/disciples. In order to become like Jesus we should apprentice to Him by following what He says (Words), what He does (Works) and how He lives (Ways). Our aim in our life should be to follow His Rhythms of Life and to pattern our own Rhythms of Life after His. This season on RE:CENTER, we are going to be discussing the seven different Life Catagories to build these rhythms and practices following Jesus. You will then take what God is saying to you or inviting you into in each Life Catagory and add a plan to your personal Rhythms of Life workbook. This episode is on the Life Category Mind.

(Spirit Rock Meditation Center) This Dharma Talk reflects on the 5 subjects for frequent recollections (also called the 5 remembrances): (1) I am of the nature to age, I have not gone beyond aging, (2) I am of the nature to sicken, I have not gone beyond sickness, (3) I am of the nature to die, I have not gone beyond dying (4) All that is mine, beloved and pleasing, will become otherwise, Will become separated from me (4) I am the owner of my kamma, heir to my kamma, born of my kamma, related to my kamma, abide supported by my kamma. Whatever kamma I shall do for good or for ill, of that I will be the heir. This is offered as a chant as a way to connect the teaching to the heart and the body. The talk then explores the liberative idea of Kamma (Karma) where we have more and more agency through the practice to seed our intentions so that our acts of body, speech and mind are more wholesome, skillful, and leading to the alleviation of suffering for ourselves and others. The talk then explores various strategies for the cultivation of mettā in daily life.

You may have been through the grieving process, like many others, and found yourself dealing with grief in an unhealthy way. Drinking alcohol excessively, overeating, stuffing your feelings or isolating yourself for extended periods of time are some unhealthy coping mechanisms. In the process of grief is when most of us realize we need to learn how to grieve in a healthy way. Grief is indicative of love.David Matthews In other words, if you are grieving it is because you lost something or someone that you hold dear. Someone once said the only cure for grief is to grieve. Grief comes in all shapes and sizes and forms. An estimated 2.5 million people lose their lives each year, leaving behind an average of 4-5 grieving survivors in its wake. Loss, however, is not limited to death. Experts estimate that there are over 40 different types of loss that people might grieve. We may experience grief without recognizing the fact that we are grieving. This is particularly unfortunate if the way we process grief is unhealthy. What is Grief The pain of grief over the death of a family member or close friend is part of life. Our natural response to losing a loved one is to experience deep sorrow. A grieving person will deal with a significant loss in different ways. The way we each handle grief is dependent on the context of our experiences in life. Each person will grieve for a different amount of time and in varying ways. What are some causes of grief When it comes to the emotional pain that comes from other losses, such as divorce, a child with drug addiction, the end of an era, such as retirement. Other causes may include the loss of: friendshipa lifelong dreamromantic relationshipa petyour health (due to a diagnosis such as Parkinson's Disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, or even a terminal illness) Symptoms of Grief Because we all process grief differently, it can have an impact on our daily life in different ways.
