OK, Molly Knight and I are back talking some baseball — and this time we are joined but the incredibly talented and altogether delightful Ellen Adair in the moments before she headed out to her first ever live Phillies World Series game. We're talking about Brandon Marsh's hair, we're talking about Rob Thompson's mojo, we're talking about whether Game 1 was more exciting for Ellen than her wedding. Fun! Molly Knight has had a rough last few weeks dealing with COVID and various things that have gone along with it. But she is fighting back, and in the latest episode, Joe and Molly talk about Fernando Tatis, Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers, the Astros and what the real home run record should be. It goes without saying that you should sign up for Molly’s substack immediately. Get full access to JoeBlogs at joeposnanski.substack.com/subscribe
Let me tell you what a trooper Molly Knight is. She has been deathly ill the last couple of weeks dealing with Covid. Like SUPER sick — can’t get out of bed sick. But she texted me after Vin Scully passed away and said we HAD to do a podcast. So we recruited Mike Schur and talked a whole lot about Vin Scully … and the Dodgers … and the Juan Soto trade … and the sad existence of the Angels … and how much better peanut M&Ms are than regular M&Ms … and so much more!Shortly after we did this, Molly had to check into a hospital for severe dehydration. She’s much better now. But I gotta tell you, that’s the sort of Kellen Winslow commitment you get from Molly Knight. Sign up for her Substack, like, right now! This is fun — Molly Knight and I talk about our five “favorite” baseball stories of the year so far. Only they aren’t really our favorites since we HAD to talk about the Yankees. I mean, the Yankees are overshadowing everything else in baseball so far.So we do talk about the Yankees … and we also talk about some of our favorite stuff like Byron Buxton, the Joc Pederson-Tommy Pham thing that never ends, the Phillies’ and Braves’ winning streaks, etc. Get full access to JoeBlogs at joeposnanski.substack.com/subscribe
If you haven’t gotten enough baseball preview stuff here the last couple of weeks, Molly Knight and I talked some baseball, why the Dodgers didn’t bring back Kenley, how much magic the Giants lose without Buster, how much we love the Blue Jays infield and so on.Please check out Molly’s Substack “The Long Game” because it’s fantastic. Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin' Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin with the bad news: the stress reaction in Jacob deGrom's scapula that's going to cost him about two months of his season. It's a huge blow to the Mets and we discuss whether the team will be able to weather the storm. Next, we talk about the trade that almost was (Dominic Smith to the Padres for Eric Hosmer, Chris Paddack, and Emilio Pagan) and the trade that actually was (Miguel Castro to the Yankees for Joely Rodríguez). We note what a travesty it is that Miguel Castro had to shave his beard and dreadlocks due to the Yankees' archaic (and discriminatory) hair policy. We also discuss the more minor, but still potentially concerning injuries in camp (Nimmo's neck, Scherzer's hamstring, etc.) and name Our Dudes for the 2022 season. In our baseball segment this week, we discuss improving conditions for minor leaguers and areas that still need improvement. We also talk about Trevor Bauer's defamation lawsuit against Molly Knight and The Athletic and how it indicates that he is more interested in painting his accuser as a liar than he is in returning to the mound for the Dodgers. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what's making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise. You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Amazin' Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! Today's word of the day is ‘defamation' as in Trevor Bauer is back! No, not back pitching, but back in the news. Last night Bauer took to Twitter and said he is suing The Athletic and former employee Molly Knight. Let's explain what's going on here. (13:20) Roger Goodell answered some media questions yesterday at the NFL owners meetings. He spoke about a few different topics, but let's read what he said about Deshaun Watson. (20:20) Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti was at the NFL Owner's Meetings and spoke about Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson. Watson got a fully guaranteed deal from the Cleveland Browns. Now what happens with the Ravens and Lamar Jackson who needs a new deal after this season? Bisciotti is not happy! (28:50) Review: Against The Ice. (33:20) Everyone was mad about the overtime rules in the NFL. Bills vs Chiefs, anyone? So they changed the rules for the postseason. Easy fix. (38:30) Are the Kansas City Chiefs moving to Kansas? Is that possible? What about the Washington Commanders? Are they moving too? Is everyone moving!? (42:30) NPPOD. (44:30) Jim Irsay is the owner of the Indianapolis Colts. He had some things to say about Carson Wentz yesterday that was not good. The Colts traded Wentz away so why did Irsay need to say anything? Learn more about your ad choices. When Albert Pujols was released by the Angels, it seemed like it might the unceremonious end to a decorated career in Major League Baseball. Then Pujols raised eyebrows by signing with the Dodgers, a team in the National League with no designated hitter slot. People around the league wondered if Pujols had any gas left in the tank, and the man with over 670 home runs to his name has proven that he's not yet out of fuel. Today, The Athletic's Molly Knight joins us to talk about Pujols' play with the Dodgers and why his biggest impact on the team might be something that has nothing to do with the power left in his bat.Read Molly Knight's story about Albert Pujols: https://theathletic.com/2650671/2021/06/14/the-albert-pujols-signing-is-paying-off-for-dodgers-on-the-field-in-the-clubhouse-and-in-the-stands/Privacy Policy and California Privacy Notice.

The Athletic's Molly Knight joins us to break down the Dodgers' up-and-down start to the 2021 season, why players from a former dynasty think the Dodgers will repeat as champions, and the dilemma that Major League Baseball faces as it tries to rein in the widespread use of sticky substances.More from Molly Knight:https://theathletic.com/author/molly-knight/

Mark and Kevin provide introductions and recap the San Diego Padres’ series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. We discuss the Molly Knight article about the Dodgers sleepwalking through the season and introduce the Baseball Hall of Very Good. Molly Knight is back on the pod! Pirate certainly makes his presence known as well and maybe even jumps into her neighbor's car? Hard to say. We're gearing up for the MLB playoffs...I guess. We talk about how the 2017 World Series ruined sports for us and how the Astros cheating deeply affected so many people in different ways. Molly has a billion dollar app idea that maybe involves all of us moving to Canada, Terry Francona added me on LinkedIn and endorsed me for "blogging" and Twitter is ruining all of our lives by overwhelming us every single day. Anyway, enjoy! Hopefully someone sponsors the podcast soon so I can move to a farm (not in Canada) and adopt 101 dogs. Side note: do you think I was creepier to Marnie the Dog or Jason Bateman? Lana's note: I said perception instead of perspective in my intro and I'm sorry but I refuse to re-record my intro to change it!! When it comes to MOLLY KNIGHT's Tori Amos fandom, the author and newly minted Athletic LA sportswriter admits she "drops a bomb" on people when she tells them she's seen Tori 100+ times (!) in concert. But it's that unwavering commitment that makes her perfect to finally become the one person in sports to accept this show's longtime "Talk Tori with Brad" challenge. They break down best albums, deep cuts, the "plugged" tour years, learning to love "Space Dog," plus the pressure of having Tori's personal email address but not knowing when it's OK to actually email.
Molly talks to former California Senator Barbara Boxer about the worst night of her life, what Republican Senators say about Donald Trump behind closed doors, and what the United States would look like if there were fifty female senators instead of twenty-two.

Molly and Daily Beast culture writer Ira Madison talk about sexual harassment and casual racism in the workplace, and their mutual obsession with Gabrielle Union and Call Me By Your Name.

We quickly go around the league and discuss some hot players, some not, and finally return to our bread and butter with rookies who could make an impact before the AS break. The young names that we talk about are Alex Bregman, Jameson Tailon, and Trayce Thompson. Also shout out to the mom of podcast’s newest darling, Jackie Bregman, for liking one of our tweets about her son. Finally, Todd mentioned The Best Team Money Can Buy by Molly Knight. Writer Molly Knight (ESPN The Magazine, New York Times, Glamour, SELF) joins Dave & Ghizal to discuss her book about the Dodgers, "The Best Team Money Can Buy," among other topics.
One of the ongoing conundrums in sports is whether it’s about the team or the individual? Back in the early days of the NFL, Pete Rozelle believed passionately, that in a game played only once a week, the team was the key to marketing. In Basketball, former Commissioner David Stern saw the value of individual stars as the draw for fans. For Baseball it’s been a mixed bag. Even for iconic teams like the Dodgers or the Giants, the question of team vs. the individual is hotly debated. For the Dodgers, at least the current team and its current ownership group, the answer is clear. With players like Yasiel Puig, Clayton Kershaw, Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford, stars outshine the team. The individual player is king, second only to the dollars that are being paid.Looking at this team, a team that was in bankruptcy just three years ago, as a result of a a messy divorce, is my guest sports journalist and former ESPN reporter Molly Knight. She takes a hard look at this team in her new book The Best Team Money Can Buy: The Los Angeles Dodgers' Wild Struggle to Build a Baseball PowerhouseMy conversation with Molly Knight:

It takes time to learn how to strengthen attention, so do it without expectation or attachment to results and just accept the way things are. Molly Knight Forde's outlook on life is simply breathtaking. She is nothing short of masterful when it comes to analyzing the world through awareness and mindset. Not only does she make insides melt with her intricate and soothing piano melodies, Molly sparks motivation and meaning into every conversation she engages.
