After graduating as a licensed aesthetician, Nicole left the hospital where she had been for 3.5 years and began working as a registered nurse for a plastic surgeon. An experience of over 6 years that would leave her with so much knowledge and respect for the aesthetic world. It was during those 6 years that she pursued her Master's Degree and obtained her license as a Family Nurse Practitioner, leading the way for where she is now; owning a state of the art medical aesthetic practice and being a national Allergan Trainer. Nicole takes pride in treating her patients holistically, focusing on facial balancing and enhancing one's natural beauty. She believes education stands as the cornerstone of aesthetics and is why she is dedicated to both training others while always focusing on expanding her own knowledge as well. Jenn found out less than a year ago that she had breast cancer. Stage 2 and grade 3 (yes, that is important and not so often talked about). She immediately called her doctor and began the process of how to treat it. On this episode we talk about how open Jenn's been in telling her story to her team at her salon, her landlords (who were super supportive), her 4 year old son and to her on line followers. Jenn's learned a lot in less than a year about being a patient and how to be a friend to others. She's transparent and shares how others stepped up in big and small ways to help while she was going through treatment. She also has some tips for people who may not know how to help someone who may be doing the same. Thank you to Jenn for her time and grace, who's status by the way is currently NED (no evidence of disease!)

Deborah Liu is a seasoned technology executive based in Silicon Valley. She is currently the president and CEO of Ancestry, the company at the forefront of family history and consumer genomics. Prior to this, she served on the leadership team of Facebook, where she was the vice president of Facebook App Commerce. During her time there, she founded Facebook Marketplace and created Facebook Pay, Facebook Audience Network, and App Ads. Deb and I talk about her new book Take Back Your Power. Ten Rules for Women at Work. Deb and I go in depth about her journey as a CEO, wife, and mother of three. We talk about her going after her dreams, but also creating a home. We talk about partnerships in marriage and how choosing the right mate is one of the most important things we can do. A real eye-opener for me is when she talks about the different lanes her and her husband operate in, and how they don't critique each other's lanes. This advice alone will save some marriages ;) We talk about different seasons in life, and why that really matters. We talk about giving ourselves grace and doing what we can in the season that is in front of us. As an ambitious woman this interview was such an encouragement to me. There's no one quite like Jonalyn Fincher. The New England water colorist, follower of Jesus, and Second Amendment advocate is also an author, a popular public speaker, a mother, and wife. She can skin an elk, defend her kids from bears, and knock out a simple and elegant greeting card line, and write about some of the most interesting and compelling controversial topics in America. And she listens carefully and observes. It's part of what makes her a great artist. For a long time, Jonalyn ran a non-profit with her husband, Dale. They wrote books and did public speaking all around the country to large and small audiences. They ran several blogs. One day, she began painting seriously. After years of discipline, sacrifice of everyone in her family, and dedicated hard, smart, careful work, she has a line of impressive water color greeting cards selling in stores. She also does commissions for pieces. Each one is a gripping, elegant study of some aspect of our world. And, as you'll see, she wants the legal right to carry a gun for self-defense. She's humble, but not shy about it. Though she has had mountain lion, bear, moose and elk on her property, including bear cubs who have snuck up on her children, she wants the legal right to carry a firearm for self-defense in the city. Some of the most dangerous parts of creation are found there, as well. Though this need for effective self-defense, she emphasizes, is a cause for sadness, not celebration. Listen to Ella describing how she became a driving instructor. I describe her in this episode as a bit of a trailblazer - she was the first person I can remember to admit in the EXE ADIs Facebook group that she had failed her Standards Check. She posted because she wanted to get better. Ella also started her own home business during lockdown in 2020 - and she also finds time to be a fab wife and mother! Oh yes and she also appears with great regularity on social media so she's become quite an expert there too! El is one of the instructors I know better than many and this episode did over-run the sort of time limit I had set myself for these podcasts - but what Ella has to say is too interesting for me to edit any out. Oh yes - and you will love her description of hot yoga! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This is a special episode featuring my friends, Aaron and Fiauna Lund. Oftentimes, when we hear that friends and neighbors are facing challenging trials, many of us are at loss not knowing how to reach out or what we can do to support and love them. I'm grateful they were willing to courageously share their story so that we can rally and offer encouragement and prayers as we Seek and Expect Miracles for Fiauna. Last November (2021) Fiauna was diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC). This news was especially difficult to accept because Fiauna has dedicated her life to sharing her talents and time teaching others to be passionate about health and wellness with her heart-healthy, active lifestyle. She shared the following post on FB which describes her current status as she patiently awaits a heart transplant: "Seek and expect miracles. Truly prophetic advice I heard recently that I'm choosing to embrace right now. What I've learned about miracles is that, for the most part, they are a matter of perspective. You can choose to accept them, or choose to look right past them, waiting for something…more? I posted Tuesday that I was admitted to the hospital where I would likely wait for a heart transplant as soon as a donor became available. That was the plan—a plan I agreed to and felt really comfortable with…until I didn't. I started to panic. Had I made the right choice? Were we going in the right direction? My gut (or the Spirit) was screaming at me to talk about other options. When the team of doctors and the transplant coordinator, met with us Wednesday morning we discussed those options and arrived at a new plan. At first I didn't trust the doctors, the plan, my own ability to make the right choice, but the more I sat in the feeling—the doubt and confusion—the more at ease I became. Does that even make sense? The plan proposed now is to keep me listed for transplant at status 6; discontinue the medication I was taking that, while very effective, was making me very sick; try another medication under medical supervision to make sure it works without intolerable side effects. If all goes well, I can go home Monday or earlier. The peace I felt when the new plan was proposed was undeniable. I've been wrestling mentally and perhaps spiritually with the concept of heart transplantation. I mean, think about it. They're going to cut into my chest and remove the most vital of organs, the powerhouse of the body, the first sign of life. Before my parents even knew I existed, the cells of my little embryonic heart were already beating. For a moment I will be without that beating heart. And from that moment on, in order to live someone else has to die. That's heavy. A weight I've been trying to carry—and I thought I was carrying successfully until this dry run. This trip to the hospital has let me process things differently. I was given the miracle of CLARITY. The miracle of recognizing spiritual influence, and of PEACE —even if only for a moment.' Fiauna is a wife, mother to four children, and writer. She's written and published two novels: "Indigo" and "In the Twilite" https://www.amazon.com/Fiauna-Lund/e/B006LPTUMW%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share *Please consider becoming an Organ Donor*

I have an awesome guest today named Marilee Killpack, who is a wife and mother of 4, and is the Co-Founder of Gathre, a company that creates quality mats for spaces where families and people can gather and spend time together. We discuss how she's been able to develop her faith and let that guide her in building her business, and then how she's been able to break through the stigma of having children and working as a mother and woman in this regard, especially living in somewhere like Utah where that might be looked down upon in some cases. What helped her build faith before building the business 5:17A challenge women face often and how to deal with it 11:15Helping your kids know they're the priority 17:53Starting a business with a friend 23:21Bringing their husbands on board 25:02Allowing themselves to take vacations 31:58A story of faith affecting the business 42:43“We can take cues, like if one daughter is having a really hard time, there was a time when one of our daughters was having a hard time and we would bring her into work, or maybe work from home a little bit. Thank you yet again for joining us for another episode of the Into The Wee Hours Podcast! So happy as always to bring you stories and voices of everyday adventurers, and this one is absoultely inspirational! This episode brings you the voice of Maree Connor, an overall busy woman wearing many hats - only some being mother, wife, sister, ultra runner, and Clinical Nurse Unit Manager. (We also talk about the other hats she wears like craft beer drinker, dad-joke teller, and designated bike pusher for her kids.) We were lucky enough to steal Maree away for an excellent chat during Mother's Day, after her two young daughters had made her well-deserved breakfast in bed! While wearing many hats, we mostly focused on Maree's ultra running achievements which include, but are not limited to, winning and lowering the women's record at Brisbane Trail Ultra (BTU) [watch her interview with Race Director, Shona Stephenson, here!!], winning Elephant Trail Race, completing (TWICE) and winning and lowering the women's record at Coast to Kosci, and as she so casually drops at the end of the conversation getting to Mount Everest Base Camp! We hear how Maree had serious back surgery and has incredibly come back stronger with a new lease on life, and takes advantage of her new situation to say "thank you" for this fantastic opportunity. Maree is so humble about her achievements, but it is clear that she puts in the hard work (while being self-coached!) to balance her life and juggle priorities to find success in so many aspects of her life. Maree has a full plate planned ahead including Southern Sydney 24 Hour Ultra (a 24-hour track race) only 5 weeks before returning to Brisbane Trail Ultra again (because you have to do everything twice, right Maree?!). She tells us how she also hopes to one day hike the Anapurna Circuit with her husband and daughters! We started to dive into a bit about Maree's nutrition and how she mostly uses Tailwind Nutrition before our call dropped out! So about midway through, we apologise for the disruption in recording, but we are so grateful for Maree's (and our listener's) patience with us through recording! We hope it does not take away from the quality of the conversation with Maree! Follow along with Maree's adventures via Instagram @mareeconnor_. If you are keen to help keep the lights on for this podcast, you can support us on Patreon, or you can leave a review on whatever platform you isten to podcasts on like Apple or Spotify! Thank you for the continued support from all of our listeners and patrons - we love and appreciate you all!

It is a blog that chases the stories and real life experiences of being a women in the field of architecture, as she pairs it with being a Mother & Wife. We actually get a special visit from her kids in the episode, as we discuss her journey - of which seems to be timed, but is really 100% coincidental. She shares her history of schooling, struggling with math at young age, but an overwhelming love for drawing & art that pushed her to the profession of architecture. We touch on the feud of "what is the real Cal Poly?" (We hope to hear from you Cal Poly peeps...in the comments.)
