EPISODE 192 - Clark, Hyung, and Will open the show discussing whether they will buy more blaster boxes of the 2024 Topps Series 1 upon hearing the news that redemption cards for signed memorabilia will be inserted into them exclusively. Or will they stick to the hobby box which guarantees either one autograph or one relic. Then for Hobby Headlines, the guys break down the New York Times article featuring Michael Rubin titled, "Will Fanatics Upend the World of Sports Collectibles?" They go through several points to see if they agree or disagree with some of the quotes about the state of the hobby coming from Rubin, as well as CEO of Fanatics Collectibles Mike Mahan. Afterwards they do another round of "Just A Thought" segment where they brainstorm and workshop (often silly) ideas to improve the hobby (ie. name match cards??) Lastly, they end the show with "Pick 1" where each of the guys puts up two cards and then they debate which they'd rather invest in. -------------------------- CONNECT WITH US! In this episode you will discover: Why menopause is such an important time in a woman's life to pay attention to her health careWhy telemedicine is perfect for menopause careWhy millennial demand for personalized reproductive services will continue as they move into their 40-50s and what that means for workplacesKey Takeaways: Menopause is not a disease, it's a natural phase of life and it impacts the quality of life for many women. They need to find resources so that they could find relief sooner. Hormone therapy is a real savior for many women who qualify for it, but the process of understanding the decision to go for it or not involves continuous patient-provider conversations. Alleviating the symptoms of menopause would mean determining a solution that's specific for the individual as not every woman experiences the same symptoms. There must also be lifestyle changes. Menopause is an uncomfortable topic for most people and that's why telehealth is perfect for it. The trend right now regarding menopause is that there's a lot of curiosity around it both from employees and employers. Everyone's trying to educate themselves. We must lean hard into those conversations and make healthcare for menopause more accessible to all. “Women in their forties and fifties are at the pinnacle of their careers. Let's empower them so that they can continue to be the kinds of leaders that organizations need, and at the same time, just make them feel better and improve the way healthcare is supported for women in their post-reproductive years. - Jill Angelo, CEO of GennevResources: Website: https://www.gennev.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jillangelo/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jillangelo NY Times Article mentioned in the discussion: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/01/magazine/menopause-hot-flashes-hormone-therapy.html Learn more from Carrie and Rebecca: Healthcare Insights (a monthly deep dive into specific topics for innovators): https://nixongwiltlaw.com/healthcare-insightsTelehealth/Virtual Care Mgmt Update (a biweekly LinkedIn newsletter tracking legal and policy changes across the nation): https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/telehealth-virtual-care-update-6901900767960068096/ Website: https://nixongwiltlaw.com/ Carrie on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carrienixon/ Rebecca on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rebeccagwilt/NGL on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/nixon-gwilt-law/
Today, I'm taking a break from interviews and sharing some quick thoughts on the recent story of the King Pigeon nicknamed Flamingo. He was given this moniker by the wildlife rehabilitation center who tried to save him after he was found in a park in NYC, his entire body (head included) having been dyed pink with real hair dye, for, it is believed, a gender-reveal party. Today's episode is only 10 minutes, please honor Flamingo by listening and taking my words to heart. guests:- Teresa Pasquini and Lauren Rettagliata, 2 California Moms on a Mission for a System of Care that WorksFrom NAMI CA website: Housing That Heals project:“As two California moms on a mission, we invite you to join our journey across the state and into our future dreams for Housing that Heals for Families Like Ours. Housing That Heals is more than a house, a program, or a room key. It is a system of care that wraps a person in all of the necessary medical, clinical, rehabilitative, and social supports that they need in order to live and die in dignity. We began this journey in 2019, using years of experience as moms, advocates, and community leaders as our compass. We set out looking for solutions that would mend our broken hearts and the broken system. We were hopeful that this would be the year that California would recognize that people who live heroically with serious mental illness need more than “Housing First.” First, they need a full system of care that provides care before, during, and after homelessness, crisis, hospitalization, or incarceration. Housing That Heals is a prevention and intervention plan that will systemically flatten the harm curve for those who live with serious mental illnesses. We ask:What experiences have you had that make housing so important to you? Is there disparity in your state between funding for housing for those with a Serious Mental Illness and Intellectual Developmental Disabilities? Why Housing First and Harm Reduction are not HUD principles that are tied to building affordable housing do not work for many with a Serious Mental Illness? Does Ideology drive the disparity for those with a Serious Mental Illness? Why does your paper talk about marrying the Recovery Model with the Medical Model? What criteria did you use to measure if the housing you visited was Housing That Heals? What Housing have you seen that seems to embody Housing That Heals? Is it possible for this housing to be accessible to those who are on Medicare and enrolled in their states' public system of care?Links:https://namica.org/community-voices/team-nami-spotlight-housing-that-heals-project-report/The paper:https://hth.ttinet.com/Housing_That_Heals_2020.pdfOur Housing That Heals Facebook Page:https://www.facebook.com/housingthathealsHere is the NY Times Article:https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/16/opinion/parenting-adult-children.htmlMindy and her book: https://mindygreiling.com/Randye and her book: https://benbehindhisvoices.com/Miriam and her book: https://www.miriam-feldman.com/Hosts:Who:Randye Kaye - was a morning Radio Personality bringing humor to CT families when her own son was diagnosed with schizophrenia. We thank our listener and voter Theresa for bringing this topic to our discussion this week. Bruce and Scott weigh in on their thoughts regarding the convening of a Convention of States to revise or rescind the US Constitution. Both co-hosts have a deep and abiding loyalty to the rule of law and the US Constitution. It is with no small trepidation and careful consideration that we provide you, our listener with some thoughts regarding the US Constitution, the process of constitutional amendment according to that document and then our personal reasons why we feel the way we do. We also spend some considerable time examining the impetus of different groups across the political spectrum that are advocating for changes to our US Constitution. We referenced multiple articles and sources of information including this September 2022 NY Times Article and this series of points from the Heritage Foundation. That's this week from ‘On The Rocks Politica'.
The standardized exam results have been released across the US, and many states have seen a sharp decline in academic progress. But that was to be expected given that children were home learning remotely for two years. Now the question is who is responsible for addressing the learning loss? Principals, teachers, or parents? What about the tech, book, and curriculum companies capitalizing off of this moment? It's time to address the issue, tune in to listen and learn. Societal norms around dress and appearance are always shifting and evolving, Spacious Human founder Eli Cohen cites a NY Times Article from August 28, 1977 entitled “Feminism's Effect on Fashion.” A psychoanalyst is quoted in the story saying: "If a woman came to my office 15 years ago wearing pants, I regarded it, in true Freudian tradition, as behavior to be analyzed." Eli points out that now in 2022 I don't think you could find anybody who would say, “Oh, if a woman is wearing pants to the office we need to have a discussion around gender. It's just somebody wearing pants to the office. But for boys and men, we're still in the 1950's or 60's. If a man wants to wear a dress, or a skirt to the office, there's still a lot of resistance. It feels like we're still in those very beginning stages of breaking through and finding wider ranges of expression for men.”Cohen had a light bulb moment around gender in his 50's. After building a successful life, Including running his own companies and generating sales supporting hundreds of employees, this happily married father and new grandfather embarked on a third act that surprises him as much as almost anyone else. He began to notice how enforcement mechanisms of dress and appearance limited him in areas far removed from appearance. Breaking through these rigid and restraining structures opened him up to confront intense fears and also to experience exuberant joy. As his confidence and self-understanding grew, so did his physical and emotional health, even his relationship. Now, as a speaker, facilitator and mentor, he guides fellow humans on journeys to access hidden parts of ourselves, expand our notions of gender and find greater happiness. In this lovely episode I read parts of the NY Times article titled "It's Easy (and Legal) to Bet on Sports. Do Young Adults Know the Risks?" written by Marie Fazio. It details a young man named Saul Maleks battle with Sports Betting Addiction and his recovery. I also read and try and think my way through my thoughts and feelings about some of the comments, positive and negative, left on this article. Great job from Saul and the NY Times on bringing more attention to this growing problem in a very respectful way to those involved! As we begin the season of Lent this year, I need to remember why we observe it. Most of the time, I'd rather skip ahead to the celebration instead of understanding why we celebrate. I'd rather enjoy the garden instead of digging in and tending to the dirt. I'd rather bask in the beauty instead of acknowledging the reality of the ashes. But Lent is an opportunity to be honest and intentionally notice the presence of God in the midst of the ashes. As we begin this holy season, I hope you'll listen in.
