In April 2023, Kenyan authorities uncovered a waking nightmare: hundreds of shallow graves scattered across the forest floor in Shakahola. What began as ten bodies quickly ballooned into over 400—most of them women and children, many brutally mutilated, raped, or missing organs like eyes, kidneys, and genitalia. These were not peaceful deaths. This was a killing field disguised as holy ground; an execution site for followers of Good News International Ministries, a Christian doomsday cult led by self-proclaimed pastor Paul Mackenzie. Indoctrinated with the belief that starving to death would bring them closer to Christ, victims surrendered food, freedom, and their lives - many buried alive, others butchered in ritualistic public executions. What investigators found wasn't just mass murder - it was a religious apocalypse where obedience was fatal and faith became a death sentence. Please listen with caution. Three news stories summarized & contextualized by analytic journalist Colin Wright.Proposal would add a "Category 6" as hurricanes get strongerSummary: A new research paper suggests that hurricane intensity is increasing so dramatically that it may be prudent to add a Category 6 designation to the commonly used Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind scale, which currently tops-out at Category 5.Context: The paper argues that because more hurricane systems are far surpassing the typical range of Category 5 storms, and because the strength of storms increases dramatically as sustained wind speeds reach those heightened levels, calling a hurricane with winds of 157 mph and another that weighs in at 192 mph the same category makes little sense, and underplays the danger associated with the latter; the paper thus proposes designating storms that surpass 192 mph as Category 6, placing a ceiling on the currently uncapped Category 5 label.—AxiosOne Sentence News is a reader-supported publication. Discovery will be launched sometime this fall, according to representatives from these companies.Context: The involved media behemoths will each own a third of the new platform, and it will include content from all major sports leagues, according to the companies; this is a pretty big deal in the sports and media world, as the online streaming landscape is in the midst of a grand reshuffle, Netflix the only brand making a profit from such efforts, and the rest all trying to cut costs and merge assets in order to staunch the economic bleeding from investments they've made over the past few years; a big shift away from cable TV has made sports programming a huge and profitable opportunity, though, and this seems to reflect a desire by these entities to claim a sizable portion of that pie before their competitors, many of which are scooping up their own sports assets, often at high costs, can do the same.—The Wall Street JournalJapan's population is aging rapidly, and that's already having all sorts of disruptive consequences for its culture, society, and economy (disruptions the rest of the wealthy world is beginning to experience, too—this isn't a Japan-specific issue, they're just a little bit ahead of everyone else in terms of low-and-dropping birthrates).—Chartr$3 billionApproximate sum spent by Chinese online retailer Temu in 2023 on advertising in the United States as part of a larger effort to steal market share from Amazon.About $1.2 billion of that total was spent on Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Threads) alone, according to Goldman Sachs, and analysts have questioned the validity of this approach, as while Temu is undoubtedly gaining in popularity, there's some indicated that it has still only captured about 1% of the US ecommerce market—far shy of Amazon's ~40%.—Financial TimesTrust Click Get full access to One Sentence News at onesentencenews.substack.com/subscribe

Kult-dyrkelse fascinerer og forarger. Seneste gruopvækkende fortælling er fra Kenya, hvor kultlederen Paul MacKenzie netop er blevet sigtet for mordet på næsten 200 mennesker. Are You Falling for Stupid Spirituality? Part 2

Higher Density Living Podcast

Higher Density Living has tackled a lot of spiritual and esoteric ideologies, an expansive view across diverse cultures and belief systems. We continue the discussion from the last episode to conclude and create takeaways from this topic.  By exploring the signs and dangers of falling into this trap, we aim to empower individuals to embrace authentic and transformative spiritual practices. We can avoid prioritizing external validation over inner transformation.   We continue to explore the travesty of falling into spiritual stupidity. In this case, there are other groups and organizations that advocate for the regression of material consciousness in the form of apocalyptic proclamations and alarmist belief systems. The missing piece in these kinds of is critical thinking. In this episode,  we mainly tackle and deep dive into the pitfalls of occultism disguised in the fashion of ‘spiritual enlightenment'.    To continue the discussion on stupid spirituality. Alexander and Jason give us an example to paint a dire picture of occultist rage mirroring a bad reputation to the spiritual community. In a recent news article, a Kenyan ‘occultist' leader was arrested named Paul Mackenzie, for inciting murder among its members and followers. Local law enforcement officials claim that no fewer than 109 men, women, and children are known to have died after a charismatic church pastor, Mackenzie, encouraged his followers to fast to death to meet “Jesus” in the afterlife. This heightened paranoia and blatant exaggeration of the “afterlife” or the “doomsday” brought absolute mayhem.    Sugarcoated under the promise of salvation in the afterlife, many occultist trends fall under stupid spirituality, which is a major regression and productivity towards the target of higher awareness and positive conscious evolution. Imposing the classic hierarchical power structure is what makes an occult alive and keeps you from evolving, reduces your power, and removes away the Free Will. Destroying these hierarchies will dismantle stupid spirituality.    The whole point of these blind venerations leading you in a false belief system is to discourage critical thinking. It is not limited to fringe followings but is present in ALL major religions and belief systems. This kind of system does not enforce a natural state of evolution. It ultimately reduces you of your evolution and becomes hijacked by a deterministic, untruthful, and negative orientation of growth and evolution.   Breaking free from the dogma, from centralized systems, is the only way for you to evolve more freely and enlightenment to the right path of spirituality. You need to think critically and stand for what you think is right. If people start to think critically and freely, it is the beginning of the end to any cult leaders out there. At Higher Density Living, we want you to take the responsibility and think for yourself. Do not take anything for granted. We provide a platform to empower you and the thoughts for yourself and others.    It's crucial to avoid falling into the abyss of the occult disguise in the cloak of [stupid] spirituality. By recognizing its pitfalls, differentiating authentic spirituality, embracing mindfulness, and seeking genuine guidance, individuals can embark on a transformative and fulfilling spiritual journey. Let us embrace the power of self-awareness, discernment, and genuine growth as we navigate the spiritual landscape and uncover the true essence of spirituality within ourselves. In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, the discussion was prompted by a disturbing article in the New York Times that was shared on Church & Culture's Daily Headline News. The title of the article, written by Andrew Higgins, was, “He Told Followers to Starve to Meet Jesus. Why Did So Many Do It?” Why indeed. What leads people to join a cult, especially when the leader encourages their followers to take their own lives? And what connection do conspiracy theories have to cults? Episode Links This is not the first time that the podcast discussion has touched on the topic of cults. We'd encourage you to go back and listen to CCP35: On Scientology and CCP18: On Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses. Dr. White outlined the marks of a cult and, in addition to discussing the cult led by Paul Mackenzie in Kenya from the NYT article, he also mentioned the story about the doomsday cult that led a mother in Idaho to murder her two children, as well as the HBO Max show “The Vow,” a documentary series about the cult NXIVM. One of the big takeaways is that people seem to long for community, especially when facing times of difficulty in life. This is also what can make the world of conspiracy theories so appealing, particularly when they seem to morph into a cult like we witnessed happen during the pandemic. This is what led to the rise of QAnon, predominately through social media. For more on that you should check out an excellent article written by Katelyn Beaty in Religion News Service titled, “ QAnon: The alternative religion that's coming to your church,” as well as Dr. White's blog simply titled “QAnon.” Finally, the discussion ended with a look at why truth matters so very much. Dr. White mentioned a video from Stephen Colbert that, while intending to be comedic, was really quite prescient. You can watch the video on “truthiness” HERE. Dr. White also wrote a blog called “Choosing Our Truth Sources” to help people understand why truth is so important. He referenced a quote from Freud who said, “If it were really a matter of indifference what we believed, if there were no knowledge which was distinguished from among our opinions by the fact that it corresponds with reality, then we might just as well build our bridges of cardboard as of stone, or inject a tenth of a gram of morphia into a patient instead of a hundredth, or take tear-gas as a narcotic instead of ether” (from the New Introductory Lectures on Psycho-analysis, 1933). For those of you who are new to Church & Culture, we'd love to invite you to subscribe (for free of course) to the twice-weekly Church & Culture blog and check out the Daily Headline News - a collection of headlines from around the globe each weekday.

Africa is largely ignored by the western world and as a result we don't learn lessons from their tragedies. Natural disasters that kill people mostly because they are poor. Wars that are shrugged off as 'African problems'. But this is something different. This is a death cult that killed hundreds in on the back of the Bible. Paul Mackenzie forced hundreds of people to starve themselves to death. While it was often under influence of endtimes prophecies, if people broke the fast he would break their heads. Children buried in deep graves because Mckenzie told their parents they were better off in heaven. Digital IDs are the mark of the beast. Vaccines are satanic. It's all the usual pilled bullshit. Mckenzie is up there with Jim Jones and David Koresh but it's unlikely he will become a household name. We look at the horror that unfolded in a Kenyan death cult that used the name of Jesus to kill innocent people. Why? Who knows. We also look at how it could happen here. Practically? Legally? Easily. It's a rough one. Lotsa flippant chat about extreme violence so cover your ears if you're sensitive. But this one should have light thrown onto it. It's pretty hectic. Enjoy?

There has been significant abuse of religious freedom in our country, Kenya. Currently, we are battling with the sickening issue of Shakahola. Paul Mackenzie, now captured, brainwashed so many people with a false version of Christianity, leading to their death. The followers believed that fasting to death would unite them with their maker. Due to the brainwashing, Paul Mckenzie's church members could not question why the pastor and his family were not fasting. Additionally, the congregants rejected any assistance and preferred to continue with the bizarre practices. Sadly, this is the case with many people around the country, especially those with undying allegiance to the so-called ‘men of God'. Let us look at some issues that may be wreaking havoc in our churches today.
