On April 1, Aurelio Aguilar made the most of playing bingo at Red Rock Casino near Las Vegas. On the 52nd ball, he hit the Jumbo Progressive jackpot worth $207,691. This was part of a progressive bingo jackpot network. The grand prize starts at $100,000 and builds from there. Bingo may be the ultimate game of chance. Yet, it can pay off in a big way if the numbers fall your way. Red Rock is located 10 miles west of the famed Las Vegas Strip. It is part of the Stations Casino Group.Comanche Nation Breaks Ground on New Oklahoma CasinoComanche Nation Entertainment is owned and operated by the Comanche Nation. The company is located in Lawton, Oklahoma. It runs a number of casino operations in Lawton, Devol, Walters and Richard’s Spur. On Saturday, April 3, the tribe broke ground on its latest casino project in Cache. The 17,000 square-foot venue is expected to open on Dec. 31 of this year. There will also be a convenience store and full-service restaurant. This casino will pay tribute to the Comanche Nation as well as Quanah Parker. He is known as “The Last Chief of the Comanche.” Studies Continue to Find Links Between Loot Boxes and Problem GamblingCertain gaming companies derived quite a bit of revenue from adding loot boxes to the gameplay experience. A loot box can be won or purchased for real money. They contain novelty items tied to any particular game. This could include special weapons, accessories for characters and anything else related to the game. Using 13 different studies as a reference point, 12 have discovered links between loot boxes and problem gambling. Based on 93% of children playing video games, 40% have spent real money on loot boxes. This has heightened calls for tighter regulation over this practice.   Coinbase IPO Remains on Track for April 14Coinbase is the biggest cryptocurrency exchange in the US. It plans for an Initial Public Offering of 114.9 million shares is back on the board. Delayed from last December to this March, the latest company news targets April 14. The latest filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission was approved on April 1. Coinbase has no physical US location. Yet, it operates in more than 100 different countries. It also has 43 million verified users on a global scale. Last year’s revenue topped $1.14 billion. Net income was reported as $322 million. Both numbers are up dramatically from 2019.

In an effort to slow the latest surge in infections, stricter rules have been put into place. In Southern California, many restaurants and other local business have been forced to close for three weeks. Church services need to be held out doors. Grocery store capacity is reduced to just 35 percent. In light of their designation as sovereign nations, many tribal casinos in this area remain open. This includes the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indian’s casino in Rancho Mirage.Crypto Mining on The Rise in US MarketMining Bitcoin (BTC) originated in the US with the use of simple computer technology. The need for specialized computer chips and larger banks of electricity changed the industry. The mining of BTC shifted to other countries, most notably China. Core Scientific is a US Bitcoin mining company looking to change the game. Based in Bellevue, Washington, the crypto start-up has BTC mining operations in North Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky. It has also raised close to $23 million to fuel the company’s expansion plans. A block of mined BTC comes in increments of 6.25. That equates to $125,000 given today’s BTC market prices.Biloxi Casino Projects Turn to City Council For SupportA pair of new casino projects are looking for financial support from the Biloxi Council. The first is in East Biloxi on the site of the former Tivoli Hotel. They are looking to get the site approved for a casino by the Mississippi Gaming Commission. Biloxi Capital is also looking for tax breaks from the city. The other proposal is the Broadwater Casino in the western part of Biloxi. This group is looking for a tax increment financing bond up to $78 million. This would go towards improvements in the site’s infrastructure. A high speed train from Southern California to Las Vegas becomes more of a reality, with a tentative construction start date, Hawaiian Airlines will resume flights between Honolulu and the U.S. mainland in August, and a couple more resorts open on the strip. Plus, they interview Chef Marc Vetri, who is opening Osteria Fiorella at Red Rock Resort on July 10th. The Philadelphia-based chef has a restaurant at the Palms called Vetri Cucina, and since that restaurant isn't able to open yet, he's doing a popup spot at Red Rock. The award-winning chef describes the dishes, the reason he's opening there, and how life has been under lockdown.

This is when all the state’s casinos were shuttered to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. One of the first big winners playing slots was at Red Rock Casino. Located south of Las Vegas, the lucky player walked away with a $9092 jackpot on an 88 cent bet. The winner was were playing a panda slot machine. As more and more casinos welcome back gamblers, the jackpots are only going to get bigger from here. Abandoned Trump Plaza in Atlantic City to be Torn DownOne of the biggest eyesores on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in recent years was the old Trump Plaza. The property is owned by real estate mogul Carl Icahn. He received a court order to tear down the building in April. Current plans call for the demolition of both empty towers by the end of the year or by next February at the latest. Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. announced those plans in a press conference last week. There was no mention of Icahn’s future plans for the oceanfront property. The major is interested in working on future development plans with whoever owns the property. A $1.1 Billion Biloxi Casino Project in The WorksThis proposed Biloxi casino resort would be the most expensive casino project in the Gulf Coast region of Mississippi. The site is the former Broadwater Beach Resort. The company behind the proposal is Broadwater Development LLP. Plans call for a casino, hotel and spa. Also included is a golf course and an indoor/outdoor entertainment center. The entire property covers 266 acres including a portion of waterfront to house a marina. The property has sat idle since Hurricane Katrina ravaged this area in 2005. It was once the site of President Casino. This was a $17 million floating casino the size of a football field. Wind Creek Hospitality CEO Looks to The Future for Pennsylvania CasinoWind Creek Bethlehem is located in the eastern portion of the state, north of Philadelphia. It is the second-biggest casino in the state in terms of gaming revenue. The parent company is Wind Creek Hospitality as part of Alabama’s Poarch Band of Creek Indians. The company’s President and CEO is Jay Dorris. Beyond the current plans of reopening the casino’s doors, there are still big plans in the works. Closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus, there is no set timetable to reopen. The 4th of July holiday weekend is a logical target. Dorris is still hoping to break ground on a $100 million hotel expansion project late this summer.

You haven't seen Christmas in the desert until you have visited the holiday cactus garden at Ethel M's chocolate factory in Henderson. The girls were enthralled by the 3-acre cactus garden lit up with half a million Christmas lights. It was spectacular. The girls ended the night with a nice drive through the Sunset Park Gift of Lights holiday light festival. Now we've got the holiday spirit!
