Summary In this conversation, Jeannine Bryant with Easy Rightsizing and I delve into the concept of 'rightsizing,' (I love that term) a multi-layered process that goes beyond mere decluttering. Our stuff holds a lot of emotional meaning to us. We talk about the challenges faced by older adults as they downsize, the importance of family dynamics in the decluttering process, and practical steps to make the transition smoother. Jeannine shares insights from her experience working with older adults and emphasizes the significance of letting go of items while preserving memories. In her book “Keep the Memories Not the Stuff” you can embark on the right sizing journey with organization and compassion to keep the peace in your family. She encourages us to "donate along the way" in life so when donations are made, they're not decades outdated and are more likely to find a good home. Mic Drop "You can't put 10lbs of flour in a 5lb sack" - meaning we can't move all the stuff from bigger houses into smaller homes or apartments. Love this phrase! She even created "A Year of Letting Go" calendar to help you walk through this process month by month! Keywords right sizing, decluttering, emotional aspects, family dynamics, practical steps, letting go, meaningful connections, resources, senior living, downsizing Takeaways • Right sizing is more than just decluttering; it's a layered process. • Emotional challenges arise when downsizing, especially after losing a spouse. • Having a partner to walk through the decluttering process makes it easier. • It's important to prioritize people over stuff during transitions. • Memories are not in the items we own, but in our experiences. • Starting early with the right sizing process can alleviate stress later. • Utilizing a calendar can help focus decluttering efforts throughout the year. • The power of counting can help individuals realize how much they truly have. • Letting go of items can be a way to help others in the community. • Creating meaningful connections through gifting items can enhance relationships. Sound Bites "It's about so much more than our stuff." "It's a real challenge." "It's a privilege to walk alongside people." "One room per month is doable." "Your stuff doesn't owe you anything." "Memories are in us, not in the stuff." "Start with the low-hanging fruit first." Visit our recommended Best Books on Retirement ____________________ Wise Quotes On Rightsizing "It's really about what do you need in your life going forward. I like to define right-sizing as moving to or creating a home that is the perfect physical, emotional, social and financial fit. So I think about four puzzle pieces, the physical...the emotional... the social and  it's got to be financially comfortable for you, obviously, or that's not going to work. So all that has to click. What happens is that people get to the sort of freedom threshold, their late fifties, early sixties where they are no longer commuting to a job. They may have bought the house they live in because it was near their work or near their kids' schools or the schools they wanted their kids to attend. And fast forward 20, 30 years we're about where you are and the kids are out of the house. The schools don't really matter to you anymore or at all, and you are working remotely or you're retired or you're planning to retire or you can work from anywhere. And so why are you living in this house that has five bedrooms and you still have your kids' Cub Scout uniforms in the attic? I mean, this is nuts. So really start envisioning what would you do. What would it look like? What would your house be like? Do you want more bedrooms so you can have the grandkids stay with you? Do you want fewer because nobody's coming anymore? You want to lock and go travel?" On Challenges in Rightsizing "The biggest obstacles I hear people have are it's just too much trouble. I have too much furniture, or there are too many memories here. And this sort of complacency kicks in this inertia and people get weighed down by stuff. It makes me sad that their stuff would be preventing them from living their best life in the best place for them. But you look to a point, you need to learn how to let go and just keep evolving and stop living in the...

Episode Summary: In episode 165 of the Aerospace Advantage, It Comes Down to Guardians: Rightsizing Space Force, John “Slick” Baum chats with a top-tier slate of space professionals about one of the top issues impacting national security issues in orbit: having enough trained and qualified personnel. Gen Kevin Chilton, USAF (Ret.), Maj Gen Thomas Taverny, USAF (Ret.), Col Stu Pettis, USAF (Ret.), and Col Charles Galbreath, USSF (Ret.) discuss how the nation is asking the Space Force to deliver an ever-increasing scale and scope of effects as mission demands and the threat environment evolve. This requires a reassessment regarding the number of Guardians authorized for the Space Force, as well as a discussion about the appropriate mix of skill sets. Further impacting this question are considerations tied to whether the Space Force will gain a National Guard component or seek to address those mission functions through an alternate means. At the end of the day, mission demand must be matched with the right scale and scope of uniformed professionals. This is a crucial conversation. It doesn't matter how much sophisticated technology the service acquires if it doesn't have enough people to operate it, employ concepts of operation, and engage effectively throughout the higher echelons of the defense enterprise. Have you ever heard of the term rightsizing? If not, that's OK. We'll explain. According to the American Seniors Housing Association, rightsizing is the process of “asking what's really important, then aligning the way you live with those values, goals and needs.” We couldn't agree more with the ASHA, as Modern Wealth's Guided Retirement System was designed around that same line of thinking. Much has been written about an historically low unemployment rate, and the related challenges that manufacturing employers face in trying to fill a significant backlog of job openings. Despite this glut of available jobs, the need to implement reductions in force (RIFs) does present itself more often than might be expected, for a wide range of business reasons that are disconnected from unemployment figures. And like other aspects of employment law, there are associated rules and best practices that can go a long way to reducing, or even eliminating, the risk of legal missteps on the part of management. Manufacturing employers should take care to become familiar with these rules and best practices, to minimize the threat of business disruption that often accompanies RIFs. In this three-part episode of Manufacturing Success, host Mike Carrouth is joined by Fisher Phillips attorneys J. Rightsizing, de-layering, business re-engineering, streamlining the organization…these are a few of the more current terms for the conventional business practice of eliminating jobs to improve profit. You rarely hear anyone talk about the impact on the lives of the individuals and the family members of those laid off after sending them home with damage to their self-worth and a dramatic loss of income. Rarely do they consider the impact on those who remain in the organization. On this podcast, we look back at Barry-Wehmiller response during the recession of 2008-2009 where many companies were laying people off. It was a time of shared sacrifice, but we came through it stronger and more dedicated to our beliefs. Just as a caring family would.

As Nancy Bleeke points out, sales isn't about being pushy. It's simply an information exchange. And the purpose isn't to convince someone to do something. Rather, it's to guide them through a process that leads to a confident, comfortable decision. Fortunately, Nancy teaches advisors around the world an approach to convert prospects into clients without being salesy. Justin Kessler & Nathan Meisner with Bradford Allen/TCN Worldwide in Chicago discuss the ever-changing dynamics of the post-pandemic office market; how savvy tenants are taking advantage of this temporary disruption; and how the work-from-home trend has adversely affected younger workers who traditionally benefit the most from in-office mentorships. Learn what safety nets can be built into your lease to allow flexibility while maximizing the opportunities that the current market offers to tenants who wish to right-size or secure more prestigious office space with the amenities to help attract workers back to the office.   Justin Kessler & Nathan Meisner also discuss their recent transaction with Lindsay, Pickett & Postel, LLC (LPP) who was occupying two separate offices on different floors in the same building. Seeking to consolidate to a single, high-class, high-rise space with east-facing views and abundant natural light, the client needed to sublease its existing spaces. This is a perfect example of the flight-to-quality trend currently being seen within the office sector. Many brokers would have walked away due to the complexity of this transaction but both Justin and Nathan were there with level-headed, worthwhile advice and guidance every step of the way. Aligning multiple transactions at the same time—Managing multiple timelines and interests with two subtenants and relocating to a new building required some creative thinking and disciplined project management, but Justin Kessler & Nathan Meisner were able to see this deal through to make sure Lindsay, Pickett & Postel, LLC (LPP) closed on each one of these transactions.   Key Discussion Points [00:17] Welcome and introduction by Eric Odum [00:32] About our guests: Justin Kessler & Nathan Meisner [01:11] How did you arrive at Bradford Allen, Justin? The Power Vertical Podcast by Brian Whitmore

It has been described as a “gas station masquerading as a country,” as a nation that has "nuclear weapons...oil wells and nothing else,” and as a mere “regional power.” Despite the fact that Vladimir Putin's regime has pulled off the first territorial annexation in Europe since World War II, successfully intervened in Syria to save the regime of Bashar Al-Assad, and is rapidly militarizing Belarus on NATO's Eastern flank, the stubborn perception of Russia as a paper tiger persists. And with the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden focused on China -- and hoping to park the Russia problem -- it is a perception that has serious policy implications. The thing about Russia is that it is never as strong as it appears -- and it is never as weak as it appears. So how strong is Russia really? And how much policy attention should it be receiving? On this week's Power Vertical Podcast, host Brian Whitmore speaks with Michael Kofman and Andrea Kendall-Taylor, co-authors of an important article in Foreign Affairs titled "The Myth of Russian Decline" to get some answers.
