Need tips for long term maintenance? We have a place for that! There are many more useful spaces beyond these, and you can interact in as many as you like. Visit ginstephens.com/community to join us. An annual membership costs just over a dollar a week when you do the math. If you aren't ready to fully commit for a year, join for a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you'll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available. IF is free. You don't need to join our community to fast. But if you're looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community. Adam is in the lawn care industry and Katie is a scheduler at a clinic. Adam always felt he was “too small” as an athlete in high school and couldn't seem to gain weight, but all of that reversed after he played football in college and gained weight over time, ending up at an uncomfortable 270 pounds. He dabbled with various weight loss approaches such as keto, but didn't enjoy eating feeling like a math problem. No matter what he did, he couldn't get below 250 and would yo-yo back up to 270. Then, in 2022, he heard a jiu-jitsu martial artist on the Joe Rogan podcast who explained intermittent fasting. Intrigued, Adam began researching, and was even more excited when he discovered some IFers in the crossfit community who shared how IF helped them gain muscle. He started that day, with a gentle 12:12 that he gradually increased to 16:8. Now, he flexes his IF approach from day to day as it fits his schedule. His wife Katie watched what he was doing for a few weeks and then joined him. She started with 14:10, which she gradually expanded to 16:8 and then 18:6. She finally began to see weight loss at 18:6, and now has settled into a 20:4 pattern most days. She talks about the psychological challenge of focusing on numbers and the importance of shifting the mindset to celebrating non-scale victories, such as reduced inflammation and transitioning to black coffee. They both find themselves gravitating towards healthier options like fruits and vegetables, while still allowing themselves occasional sweets without guilt. The discussion addresses the societal shame associated with certain foods and how intermittent fasting has shifted their perspective, promoting a healthier relationship with food. Adam admits to his ongoing struggle with temptation but finds reassurance in ultimately making healthier choices. As the episode continues, they discuss the significant psychological and emotional aspects of weight management. Katie shares her eventual decision to stop daily weigh-ins, finding both freedom and trust in her body through intermittent fasting. Adam and Katie also talk about how fasting has positively impacted their relationship and self-confidence, and Katie opens up about the difficulties of finding wholesome food during hectic times.Wrapping up, Adam emphasizes the importance of flexibility in intermittent fasting, discussing how rigid approaches can lead to plateaus. They both encourage beginners to start slow, enjoy the journey, and focus on non-scale victories. Adam advises paying attention to body composition, while Katie recommends taking before-and-after pictures and seeking educational resources. Together, they underscore the strength found in community and learning from others' experiences.Get Gin's books at: https://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html. Good news! Mack is an elite aviator, war hero, public speaker, and the author of 'Razor 03: A Night Stalker's Wars.' Over the course of his near 36 year military career, he flew over 6700 hours of flight time, of which over 3200 hours were flown with Night Vision Goggles. He's trained and flown with the best, and he's been a part of a number of operations that were later adapted into Hollywood film productions like '12 Strong' and 'Lone Survivor'. He even had a hand in the rescue of Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. Army soldier that was held captive by the Taliban from 2009-2014. So how do you become one of the most skilled aviators in our Armed Forces? How do you manage to clock that many flight hours, at night, in the desert, with night vision goggles on? And most importantly - what's the secret to making those incredibly difficult flight maneuvers look so simple to pull off? Years later, he chased Bowe Bergdahl, rescued hostages in Iraq, and the U.S Navy Seal 'Lone Survivor' from the Kunar Valley. Mack also discusses the sacrifices he and his family made while serving this country and how they coped. A truly inspirational read that all should pick up.
This week, we continue to struggle with our new concept of segments, producing two roughly 40 min halves where we talk about some of the same concepts and including sports and How Long Gone podcast guests. In the first half, we get more specifically into a rousing debate over the spectrum of quality in restaurants and the value of going to many new restaurants vs the same one many times. In the second half, we test out our new "podcast review" segment, where Alex tells of two podcasts he binged in the "slow pod week" produced by the holiday week, Serial Season 2 featuring the Bowe Bergdahl case mentioned on the Nate pod, and Who Shat on the Floor at My Wedding, an irreverent COVID-lockdown-era true crime pod "investigating" the titular question.
This week, we are joined by co-host/producer of the ~other~ TF (Trashfuture), Nate Bethea. Nate is also a co-host and/or producer on What a Hell of a Way to Die, Lions Led by Donkeys, and Kill James Bond, all podcasts in our regular rotation. Given his vast repertoire of podcasts, we spent a good amount of time getting into the weeds of it all, from doing research/showrunning on a pod, to the editing process (he is a producer, after all), to growing their following; whether its viral video content or utilizing existing networks or doing live shows. We also talk about his pathway to podcasting, from his (regrettable) article talking about his connection to Bowe Bergdahl and co-hosting a companion podcast to the Serial Season 2 about the case, to the present day, now having co-hosted a podcast about why not to join the military for 7 years. We finally get a little bit into his own preferred podcasts, from Boonta Vista, to a specific episode of The Nod, to NYT/Serial's The Trojan Horse Affair, and touch on his decision to leave America and his experience/opinion on the politics of the two countries since. In practice of our new “segments” format, we put (most of) the Boyz only talk at the end so you don't have to skip thru it, but at that point we have a nice little discussion about sports, including the NBA offseason deals and Alex dropping a foul ball at the Mets game.
Razor 03: A Night Stalker's Wars by Alan C. Mack https://amzn.to/41uJ5sb “A truly extraordinary book by a phenomenal pilot and warrior. Alan Mack was in the thick of every sensitive, harrowing, high-stakes operation in the decade following 9/11. His account of combat from the cockpit of the world's most exceptional special ops aviation unit and of the toll it took on him and his family is forthright, riveting, raw, compelling, and inspirational. Readers will not be able to put Razor 3 down.” -General David H. Petraeus, US Army (Ret.), former Commander of the Surge in Iraq, US Central Command, and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan, and former Director of the CIAFinalist, 2022 Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Writing Awards The attacks of September 11, 2001, prompted the creation of a robust and deadly special operations force -- Task Force Dagger. Alan C. Mack, Callsign Razor 03, led a team of MH-47E helicopters and armed MH-60s. Their two-fold mission – Personnel Recovery (PR) and Unconventional Warfare (UW) involved flying in terrain and weather previously not thought possible. If that wasn't enough, they pushed the flight envelope of their specially modified Chinooks to the limit and beyond. Mack shares his behind-the-scenes perspective of the Horse Soldier's infill into Afghanistan. He discusses the hunt for Osama Bin Laden at Tora Bora and describes his shootdown during Operation Anaconda. Years later, he chased Bowe Bergdahl, rescued hostages in Iraq, and the U.S. Navy Seal ‘Lone Survivor' from the Kunar Valley. Mack's near-death experiences and frequent deployments not only affected him, but pushed his wife toward prescription opioids. Her developing addiction led to friction as he kept her secret and continued to deploy. He lived by his unit's motto, Night Stalkers Don't Quit! He wouldn't quit on his unit – he couldn't quit on his family. His story of success, tragedy, and ultimate happiness is as old as warfare itself. About the Author CW5 ALAN C. MACK retired from the Army as a Master Aviator. He served over 35 years in the Army, first as an aircraft mechanic then as a pilot. He flew CH-47s in support of Operations Desert Shield and Storm. Additionally, he spent 17 years flying MH-47 Chinooks with the 160th SOAR. As a Night Stalker Flight Lead, he participated in Operations Desert Thunder, Desert Fox, Enduring, and Iraqi Freedom. His awards include the Legion of Merit, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 10 Air medals – 1 with ‘V,' and a Combat Action Badge. Alan finished his career as Commander of the West Point Flight Detachment. Now he and his wife Patti live happily in New York's Hudson Valley.

Are Democrats exploiting the epidemic of suicide within the ranks of our armed forces to ram through greater gun control? It wouldn't be the first time they shamelessly stood on graves to do so. Plus, did Biden pull an Obama when he emptied out Gitmo in order to get Bergdahl back, only to have those Taliban prisoners orchestrate the fall of Kabul? Except this time we released Russia's "Merchant of Death" for a female basketball player. Finally, is it too early to celebrate the end of the military COVID vaccine mandate? We explain those loopholes.Guests:· Dr. John Lott· Eric J. Caron· Davis Younts· Jessica Vaughan· Mark Mix
Dom welcomes in former congressman Col. Allen B. West to discuss the decision by the Biden administration to trade ‘The Merchant of Death' Viktor Bout in exchange for wrongfully imprisoned WNBA star Brittney Griner. Col. West, who made national news speaking out against the Obama administration when dealing with the release of Bowe Bergdahl, draws comparisons between the Bergdahl situation and what we're seeing play out with Griner. West tells about the political aspects of such a release, and argues why he's vehemently against allowing somebody like ‘the Merchant of Death' to walk free. Also, Dom gets West's thoughts on the Georgia runoff election, with West explaining what Republican candidate Herschel Walker and the rest of the Party could have done to further the chances of Republicans in the election. Full Hour | In today's second hour, Dom welcomes New Jersey State Senator Mike Testa back onto the Dom Giordano Program to discuss a column he penned for SaveJersey.com titled ‘It's time for the NJEA to take a hard look in the mirror,' which calls out the New Jersey Education Association for their recent convention in Atlantic City last month. Testa writes, “instead of focusing on the things that matter to parents and their children, such as recouping grave learning losses due to draconian shutdowns of our schools, the NJEA felt it was worthwhile to host a drag queen story hour and invited irrelevant social justice warriors Nikole Hannah Jones and David Hogg to speak.” Testa explains to Dom why he felt the need to pen the column, pointing to the prioritization of political issues over something like strategizing with teachers to reduce and make up for the monumental loss of learning during the Coronavirus pandemic. If there was any doubt, Joe Biden is now officially the worst president in United States history as recession became official and the administration offered Russia the merchant of death, Viktor Bout, in a laughable trade for anti-American WNBA player Brittney Griner.
