Don McLean is the singer/songwriter behind the iconic songs American Pie (named by the Recording Industry of America as a top 5 song of the century) and Vincent (Starry, Starry Night). Don is also a member of the Songwriter Hall of Fame member, the Grammy Hall of Fame, and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award winner. In October of 2020, Don released a new album, Still Playing Favorites, and in February 2021 will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. What you will learn: Nearing the 50th anniversary of American Pie, Don reflects on the most exciting decade of his life (1960 to 1970), playing small gigs all over the country, creating his first album and the hard work and passion it required. From working children’s birthday parties to nightclubs, all while attending college, Don shares his thoughts on the dedication it takes to succeed. [0:00-10:27]  Don describes the dangers of becoming highly successful and what he did to stay away from the temptations of drugs and alcohol. He talks about how growing up around affluence, but not being affluent, shaped him as an artist and the choices he made creatively. He also discusses the impact that losing his dad at age 15 had on his outlook on life. [10:27-22:12] With candor Don lays out the grind and relentless rejection he had to endure early on in his career, and explains why he has no regrets. [22:12-28:51] Don breaks down his songwriting process, how he records and produces the songs, and compares how political environments influenced songs in the 60s and 70s vs today. [28:51-39:51] Don discusses the evolution of entertainment, why he embraces but is also wary of recent technological advances, and why he is concerned about our culture losing artistic innovation due to these advances. [39:51-48:34] Don’s 2021/2022 touring schedule and what projects he’s currently working on, including a Broadway musical and a documentary about his life. Remember, "Groovin," "Beautiful Morning," "People Got to Be Free," and "Good Lovin?" Cirina Catania, host of OWC RADiO interviews Felix Cavaliere, the captivating American music producer, songwriter and performer who hasn't stopped creating classic songs and whose career is still "new" after over 50 years. We also review OWC's News of the Week...and there is a lot of news this week: A ground-breaking new Envoy Express, the just released award-winning Thunderbay Flex 8 and a version of SoftRAID for Windows. For legendary performer, Felix Cavaliere, making people feel good is engrained into his every day world. He has numeroous accolades, including inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriter Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and Grammy Hall of Fame. Few artists can claim they defined a generation; FELIX CAVALIERE did. He continues to remind us to keep listening for joy and the world’s beauty. The classically trained pianist, born in Pelham, New York, idolized Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and Sam Cook. Felix Caveliere embraced the Hammond Organ and pioneered a fresh, rock and roll sound and he never stopped to look back. (Photo credit: Leon Volskis) “There is a feeling you get, especially when you’re performing with other musicians, and there’s a magical ingredient that comes in and crosses all nationalities and cultures. That has nothing to do with record sales. It happens when the audiences get what we do. They feel it. And we do to. Now, if we don’t feel it, then we should stop doing this. But I’m going to do this as long as I can.”(Felix Cavaliere) For more information about our amazing sponsor, Other World Computing, go to MacSales.com or OWCDigital.com, where you’ll find hardware and software solutions and tutorial videos that will get you up and running in no time. Car crashes, talking hits, and learning life lessons with the songwriter of "Wild Thing", "Angel of the Morning", Chip Taylor and London based artist Belle Mt.. Chip is the creator of timeless hits spanning 5 decades and Belle Mt. shares the origin or his latest release "Origins".    Belle Mt. (bell-mont) is songwriter Matt Belmont that just released the video for "Origins" but also it's the first single of 2019 (produced by Grammy award-winning producer Femke Weidema). This London-based artist uses life-altering moments to create a new story and "Origins" is no different.  We get into the nuances of the new track and video; pride, a crash, and relationships. We also figure out the faults of keeping scores in life's relationships. Visit www.bellemt.com to check out the video and see tour dates, and follow him @bellemtmusic.   Chip Taylor (James Wesley Voight) will probably always be known as the songwriter who wrote "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning." But there's so much more to the man besides 2 songs. Other notable tracks include "He Sits at Your Table" (Willie Nelson), "I Can't Let Go" (Evie Sands, the Hollies, Linda Ronstadt), "The Baby" (the Hollies), "Any Way That You Want Me" (the Troggs, Evie Sands, Melanie, Juice Newton, Lita Ford, Liverpool Five), "Just a Little Bit Harder" (Lorraine Ellison, Janis Joplin), "Sweet Dream Woman" (Waylon Jennings), "A Little Bit Later On Down the Line" (Bobby Bare), "Rock Soldiers" (Ace Frehley), and "Son of a Rotten Gambler" (Emmylou Harris, the Hollies, Anne Murray). A new generation is getting to know Chip by his track on Netflix's Sex Education, "F*** All The Perfect People" as well.   Chip, a Songwriter Hall of Fame Inductee, also has a love for country music and even built a healthy career in the 70's in the genre. We talk about all these but we also go into his other passions and careers (A notable gamble and golfer). But more importantly, we get to understand how Chip ticks and we tackle the ups and downs of his career. One would think that your way is paved with a track record like his, but you even learn through his latest record (Whiskey Salesman) the life lessons learned from this vet. Whiskey Salesman is out now under Train Wreck Records and you can follow Chip @chiptaylorofficial

Often called "The Godfather of Americana", Chip Taylor's songs have been recorded by such musical legends as Frank Sinatra, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Willie Nelson, Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, and many many more.  A 2016 Songwriter Hall of Fame Inductee, Chip's songs are feature in over 115 movies and TV shows.  His career spans over 5 decades and includes iconic hits like "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning".  Since 2000, he has released nearly one album a year and has 2 new albums ready for release, in addition to the 27 albums already out.  Along with friends Kris Kristofferson and John Prine, Chip was one of leaders of the Alt-Country movement in the 1970's.  Early in our conversation I mistakenly commented, "so, you write poems and put them to music".  Taylor quickly stopped me to explain that was not, in fact, the case.  He shared that, since the first time he realized he felt music more than most people, at age 5, when he experienced what he calls, “The Chill Factor,” he has continued to follow that innate instinct.  He hears a tune, works through it, and eventually discovers that words will magically work their way into the tune.  Instincts run through the veins of Chip and his brothers:  brother Barry invented the formula that predicts when volcanoes erupt and Jon (Voight) is an Academy Award-Winning actor known for his instinctual character portrayals.  What ensued was a riveting conversation about trust in one's own instrument, refusal to try to "guess the market" in the arts and allowing one's self to produce an enormous volume of high-quality work by nurturing the soul and providing the space in one's life to always be able to create.  SHOW NOTES:   3 boys, 3 unique talents, (8:42). Parental encouragement, (10:38). “Right before school, my dad said, ‘What is this day going to bring us now? Let’s find out.’”, (10:50). “The Chill Factor”: using inspiration to write and perform, (14:34). Signing with King Records at 16, (18:53). “The real lesson is to not take no for an answer.”, (23:02). The power of being told he is ok for who he was, (35:05). Following your gut instead of the market, (42:30). “The writers that I liked best over time were intuitive.”, (44:10). Rituals and habits practiced while writing, (46:53). On being prolific: releasing 27 albums overall, (49:40). Writing a duet album with Carrie Rodriguez, (53:00). “When somebody says something, I usually don’t let it fall off the table.”, (56:16). The message has always been to stand for peace, love, and happiness. For legendary singer songwriter, Felix Cavaliere, making people feel good is primary to his illustrious 50-ayear career that includes the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriter Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and Grammy Hall of Fame. Few artists can claim they defined a generation; Felix continues to remind us to keep listening for the world’s beauty. Early in 1965, Felix Cavaliere formed the ‘Young Rascals’ with Dino Danelli, Eddie Brigati, and Gene Cornish. That October, they caught the attention of promoter/manager Sid Bernstein with their high-energy set at Long Island’s elite club, Barge. Signed to Atlantic Records, and now called The Rascals, the mega hit “Good Lovin’” struck No. 1 in February 1966. They followed suit with a string of hits like “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long,” “Groovin" (No. 1 in 1967), “How Can I Be Sure,” “A Girl Like You,” “A Beautiful Morning,” and “People Got to Be Free” (No. 1 in 1968). The Rascals are considered the best ‘blue-eyed soul’ group to come out of the 1960s, as well as one of the groups with the most record sales. By the early 70s, The Rascals experimented with more jazz-influenced sounds, and moved to Columbia Records. The Rascals disbanded in 1972. Felix's solo career thrived during this decade. He released his self-titled debut album with Todd Rundgren at the producer helm. His follow-up albums were Destiny (1974), Castles in the Air (1979) (Castle in the Air produced another Top 40 hit – “Only a Heart Sees” reached No. 2), Dreams in Motion (1994) and in 2008 he collaborated with Stax guitar legend, Steve Cropper, on the Grammy-nominated Nudge it Up a Notch and again in 2010 with Midnight Flyer. Felix calls Nashville home base, where he is constantly collaborating and writing new material. He’s also finishing his memoir and has an active tour schedule with FELIX CAVALIERE’S RASCALS. The legendary Felix Cavaliere's Rascals are celebrating 50 years of music. Visit FELIXCAVALIEREMUSIC.COM.

Behind a hit song is a hit songwriter. Tim Nichols is the writer of monster cuts like Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying”, Dustin Lynch’s “Cowboys and Angles”, Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California”, Keith Whitley’s, “I’m Over You” and “Brotherly Love”, Billy Dean’s “Tryin’ To Hide A Fire In The Dark”, and so much more that it’s impossible to mention all of them. But we try in the conversation. From the days of sweating out gigs at Opryland, to to catch a music industry predator we cover a lot in this conversation. Tim not only pens hit songs, he also publishes them with his venture THiS Music with Connie Harrington (no relation) and Rusty Gaston. On top of that, Tim is on the Board of NSAI and the Executive Committee leading the charge of correcting ancient laws in a modern, digital age that prohibits songwriters to make a living wage. BEAU FULLER was born and raised in Mt. Vernon Missouri, a small rural town located in the Ozark hills of Southwest Missouri. Growing up, his passion in life was always centered around football, basketball and track. In addition to his love for sports, he began to realize a natural ability to play the guitar and piano by ear. After several years of college and working in his parents local appliance stores, Beau decided to make the move to Nashville in January of 1998 to pursue his passion for music. Eventually, he received a life-changing call from NSAI (Nashville Songwriter Association International) president Bart Herbison recommending that he make a weekend trip back to Nashville to meet with some publishers on Music Row. The very first meeting was with Roger Murrah, legendary songwriter and now Songwriter Hall of Fame member. Beau met Roger that Friday afternoon, and less than 24 hours later he was signed. As a staff writer at Murrah Music, he had the opportunity to co-write with seasoned songwriters and learn the craft of writing a hit song.  Beau launched his own Entertainment Company in 2011, NEXT BIG THING ENTERTAINMENT where he works with talented artists and songwriters and help others achieve their dreams in music.  He has had over 30 cuts on up-and-coming artists this year alone. He also has three songs he's co-written on the following upcoming albums: Jesse Keith Whitley (son of country icons Lorrie Morgan and the late, great Keith Whitley) , Jimmie Van Zant and American Idol Kristy Lee Cook.    You can contact Beau at beaufullermusic@gmail.com.
