Disney's new AI unit could potentially lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs in VFX and post-production, despite recent union agreements against AI replacing workers. The Office of Technology Enablement aims to streamline production in film and TV using AI and augmented reality, potentially disrupting traditional workflows. Jamie Voris, former CTO of Walt Disney Studios, will lead the new unit but report to Alan Bergman, co-chair of Disney Studios, despite the unit's focus on ESPN and Disney TV. The new unit will coordinate AI and mixed reality projects across Disney's divisions, potentially centralizing control over technological innovation. Disney's focus on creating best practices for itself rather than employees or the industry suggests a prioritization of cost-saving measures over worker interests. The unit's goal to ensure next-gen tech initiatives align with company goals could lead to standardization of AI use across Disney's diverse entertainment portfolio. Disney is launching a new AI division aimed at enhancing its film, TV, and theme park operations, while addressing potential job impacts and positioning itself as a responsible industry leader. 00:00 Disney is launching a new AI division to enhance post-production and augmented reality in studios and theme parks. 01:44 Disney is launching a new AI division to improve its film, TV, and theme park operations, which may affect jobs and industry standards. 04:11 Disney is creating a new AI division to explore opportunities and manage risks, potentially affecting around 100 employees in VFX and post-production. 05:55 Disney is launching an AI division to improve theme park experiences with augmented reality while addressing job displacement concerns in film and TV. 07:40 Disney is establishing a new AI division to enhance technology across its business segments while aiming to position itself as a responsible industry leader, though the specifics of this responsibility remain unclear. 09:04 Disney is launching a new AI division to align next-gen tech initiatives with company goals while ensuring individual business units retain control over their projects. 10:17 Disney's new AI division will primarily focus on post-production and visual effects rather than theme parks, despite rumors suggesting otherwise. 11:16 Disney is significantly investing in AI to establish best practices and lead the industry, with Bob Iger at the forefront of this initiative.

They received fifteen Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song, winning twice for “The Windmills of Your Mind” and “The Way We Were,” and earning a record-setting three nominations in a single year in 1982. Victoria Alonso, the longtime Marvel president in charge of physical production, post-production, VFX, and animation, has been fired at the behest of Disney co-chair Alan Bergman, according to a new report by Variety. This news has come as a surprise to many observers, as Alonso had been with Disney since 2006 and was known as one of the company's most influential producers. Her work dates back to 2008's Iron Man, where she was a co-producer and visual effects producer. It is unclear why Alonso was fired, but problems around Marvel's visual effects have been in the news for some time now. The latest MCU project to garner criticism is Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania. Alonso was reportedly “blindsided” by the decision, and Kevin Feige, who was her direct boss, was apparently not involved in the decision.

Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Tom Santopietro, Author, “The Way We Were: The Making of a Romantic Classic” About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Tom Santopietro, is a popular and highly respected author whose books about the entertainment world are as insightful, entertaining and compelling as the iconic superstars and movies he writes about.    He's written 7 bestselling books, “The Sound of Music Story”, “The Godfather Effect: Changing Hollywood, America and Me”, “The Importance of Being Barbra”, and “Barbara Cook: Then and Now”.   The 1st time he came on our show, we discussed his book, “Considering Doris Day”, which is a must-read for every fan of this beloved and in some ways, hugely underrated, actress and singer.   In his 2nd appearance, we discussed his monumentally important book, “Why To Kill a Mockingbird Still Matters”.  If you haven't yet read that book, I highly recommend it, for its brilliant analysis of racism in America, in the context of one of the greatest novels – and movies – of all time.    When our guest last appeared on our show, we discussed his wonderful book “Sinatra In Hollywood”, shining a well-deserved light on Frank Sinatra's screen legacy, which has often been overshadowed by his extraordinary achievements as a singer and recording artist.    And now, our guest is back to discuss his latest book, “The Way We Were: The Making of a Romantic Classic”.  The book commemorates the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1973 movie starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford, as the quintessential mismatched lovers who were political and emotional opposites, but whom we were all desperately rooting for.  The movie broke box office records worldwide and earned a slew of nominations and awards including 6 Academy Award nominations and 2 Golden Globe nominations.  Barbra Streisand got Oscar and Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for Best Actress, and she won 2 prestigious international Best Actress Awards.  The movie ranks at number 6 on the American Film Institute's list of the top 100 love stories in the history of American cinema.  And the music from the movie has been as highly acclaimed as the film itself, winning 2 Oscars for Marvin Hamlisch - one for Best Original Dramatic Score, and one, along with Marilyn and Alan Bergman, for Best Original Song – for which they also won a Golden Globe Award.   The original soundtrack recording won a Grammy Award, and that amazing, timeless, classic song, “The Way We Were”, sung so beautifully by Barbra Streisand, not only won the 1974 Grammy Award for song of the year – the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, and it ranks as number 8 on the American Film Institute's list of the top 100 songs in American movies.   And if that weren't enough, the song is included on the list of “Songs of the Century” compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America, and the National Endowment for the Arts.    Our guest's  wonderful, exquisitely written book provides the definitive inside story behind the making of a movie which is widely considered to be the most beloved romantic drama of the last 50 years. For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ http://www.tomsantopietro.com/https://www.facebook.com/tomsantopietrohttps://www.twitter.com/tomsantopietro#TomSantopietro   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Feige brought up Moon Knight's MCU future during a conversation with Entertainment Weekly about the initial wave of Marvel-produced Disney+ series, which included the six-episode Moon Knight series. "The fun thing about streaming is they are there forever, and people can keep re-exploring them," Feige said. "Moon Knight, same thing. I think there's a future for that character as we move forward." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has provided an update on Spider-Man 4. During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Feige was asked if there were any updates on Spider-Man 4, following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While his response was short, he did indicate the story is already settled for Peter Parker's next adventure. Feige said, "All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now." Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige "reveals" which character from The Marvels steals the upcoming film. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Feige discussed what the major takeaways were for Marvel Studios during Phase 4, which introduced several new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a variety of films and television shows. "I hope we learn something on every project," he said. "I was very pleased with everything that we did. Kamala Khan, for instance, is a great new character in the pantheon. I'm very proud of the Ms. Marvel show. I also know — and this is a spoiler — she essentially steals The Marvels, which is coming out [July 28]. It makes me excited that people will, I hope, see that movie and then go back and revisit those shows on Disney+." The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali as the famous vampire hunter, will shoot in about two and a half months, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Feige was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the MCU's Phase Five, which begins with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and ends with an all new Blade in late 2024. When asked if he had any updates on Blade, Feige didn't disclose many details but confirmed that the film is moving along smoothly. "It's going well," Feige said. "Our director Yann [Demange] is down in Atlanta right now. Cameras roll in, like, the next 10 weeks or so." Insider reports previously claimed that Blade wouldn't begin shooting until July, but Feige's projected start date of 10 weeks means the movie will begin shooting this spring. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Harrison Ford's Thunderbolt Ross is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new U.S. President. Feige confirmed that Ross will move into the Oval Office in Captain America: New World Order in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "[Ross is] the President of the United States in the film," he said. "And with Harrison, you think about Air Force One, and you think about some of his confrontations with the president in Clear and Present Danger. There's a dynamic between President Ross and Sam Wilson. They have a history together, but in this film, we'll be seeing the dynamic between Captain America and the President of the United States in a way that is just incredible." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the ever-expanding scope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pointing out that it was necessary to release a wide variety of films and television shows while noting that not everything would necessarily appeal to everyone. "If there's a Marvel Studios method -- like there was a Marvel method in publishing -- it's trying to do both," Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked about balancing ongoing MCU story threads with capturing new audiences. "I've talked about this for years: If you want to dip in and out and just go to the movies on a Friday night or watch a streaming series, you can do that. And if you want to follow along, there's certainly much more to be discovered. But we don't ever want it to seem exclusive or that you need to have done your homework before watching something. Now, I've also realized that a lot of people like to do the homework. A lot of people find the fun in the homework and the continuity and the connectivity. But it is a balance of always trying to do both." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes will play an essential role in the highly-anticipated Thunderbolts movie. Speaking with EW, Feige teased that Bucky Barnes will become the de facto leader of this group of complicated individuals who don't even consider themselves heroes. "What's fun about that [Thunderbolts film], and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige said. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down." According to Kevin Feige, the 'Previously On' recap could be less important for upcoming Marvel TV shows as they might experiment with more traditional episodic structures. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Feige stated that "[w]e want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained." He pointed to watching episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation to illustrate the pleasures of less overarching TV storytelling: "I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we're going to keep experimenting with that going forward." When it comes to upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has one, in particular, he's most looking forward to. "...We talked a little bit about Secret Wars. We talked about Kang Dynasty as related to Quantumania," Feige told Entertainment Weekly, referencing the MCU's current storylines and reflecting on future projects. "The only other one in terms of me personally and my 23-year history is the Fantastic Four. We sort of talked about mutants and that whole aspect to the Marvel world, but Fantastic Four is the foundation for everything that came after in the comics. There's certainly been versions of it [on screen], but never inhabiting the storytelling of the MCU. And that's something that is really exciting for us."   The Marvels Bumps Its Release Date Back to Late 2023 https://www.cbr.com/the-marvels-release-date-late-2023/ Marvel Studios has delayed its upcoming Phase 5 title The Marvels from summer 2023 to late 2023.   Announced alongside a brand-new teaser poster for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel, The Marvels is now scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 10. This is the fifth release date for The Marvels, which was originally scheduled to open back in July 2022. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was delayed to November 2022 and then February 2023. Marvel Studios had previously had the film set to open on July 28 for this latest delay.   No reason was given by Marvel Studios for the film's delay; however, a recent report has claimed that Marvel is looking at having more breathing room between MCU projects to prevent audience fatigue as well as allow the creative times more time in post-production. The report mentions that the Disney+ series Echo and Ironheart are no longer guaranteed to debut in 2023 because of these changes and that development on other projects -- like the rumored Nova series -- will slow down. However, the insiders did not mention if the MCU films would be affected by this decision, so it is impossible to say if that is the reason for The Marvels' delay until Marvel Studios confirms the report, which it has yet to do at the time of writing.   REPORT: Kevin Feige Is Eyeing Disney's Top Creative Position https://www.cbr.com/kevin-feige-walt-disney-studios-chairman-promotion While Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige's presence has been ubiquitous for fans following news about the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its 2008 inception, he's reportedly vying for a higher position.   Feige, according to The Hot Mic podcast's Jeff Sneider, is looking to ascend the leadership ladder at Disney, specifically for the position of Walt Disney Studios Chairman. The position in question, currently occupied by Alan Bergman, is essentially the second-highest in the entire Disney corporate structure, just below the #1 spot of the recently reinstated CEO Bob Iger. Feige has long-coveted the position, and "wants to be the #2 at Disney," according to Sneider, who said that he has designs for "being the creative absolute head of a studio who can put his fingerprints on everything and leave maybe the business stuff to someone in the Iger-type of seat, who has to oversee parks, resorts and cruise ships." Indeed, he adds that the longtime Marvel Studios overseer "aspires to be more than the head of a label."   How Kang Became Marvel's Next Supervillain and Why Phase 4 Sets It All Up https://gizmodo.com/kang-the-conqueror-mcu-marvel-phase-5-stephen-broussard-1850094830 While Tony Stark/Iron Man started the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios executive Stephen Broussard recently shared disappointing news about MCU veteran Robert Downey Jr. possibly returning to the franchise. While speaking to io9, Broussard said that he thought one of Phase 4's meta-narratives centered on new characters and mantles taken up by the latest heroes. "If you look at, like, Cassie [Lang in Quantumania] getting a suit and Kate Bishop [in Hawkeye], new characters being introduced like Jack in Werewolf by Night," he explained. "After these first 10 years of Marvel storytelling, torches are being passed, like with Robert Downey Jr. no longer being [on the] table and stuff like that. So it was kind of like a new generation stepping to the forefront which, again, has always happened in the comics."     DISNEY+   Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Releases Its First Episode Online for Free https://www.cbr.com/marvel-moon-girl-devil-dinosaur-episode-free/ The double-length premiere episode of Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is available to stream online for free. However, when the two come across a genuine supervillain in the form of the electrically-powered Aftershock (Alison Brie), Lunella fears she may not actually have what it takes to be a hero.   Disney+'s X-Men Season 2 Gets Announcement Video https://thedirect.com/article/disney-x-men-season-2-announcement-video Wolverine voice actor Cal Dodd has confirmed that he is already working on the second season of the Disney+ animated series X-Men '97, Marvel Studios' upcoming follow-up to the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series.   Per The Direct, Dodd announced that he had begun recording lines for X-Men '97 Season 2 in a now-deleted Twitter post. Setting The Standard: Stories From The Great American Songbook

“Over the Rainbow”, “Get Happy”, “Come Rain or Come Shine”. These are the songs you have been singing your whole life, and now is your chance to learn about who wrote them! In this week's episode, travel somewhere over the rainbow into the singular mind of renowned composer Harold Arlen, a key contributor to the American Songbook whose hundreds of pop tunes became runaway hits during the 1930s, ‘40s, and ‘50s. Arlen collaborated with the greatest of the Tin Pan Alley lyricists, including E.Y. "Yip" Harburg, Johnny Mercer, Ted Koehler, Ira Gershwin, Dorothy Fields, and Truman Capote. While any number of Arlen's compositions assured his prominent place in musical history, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) deemed “Over the Rainbow” to be the 20th century's greatest song. In this week's episode, the men you love are at the forefront: George and Ira Gershwin, brothers who sometimes seemed to write their hits with four hands and one brain. “Wouldn't It Be Loverly”, “Get Me to the Church on Time”, “If Ever I Would Leave You”. These are the songs you have been singing your whole life, and now is your chance to learn about who wrote them! This week's episode is guaranteed to be “loverly”, as we dive headfirst into the life and times of Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe, one of the greatest songwriting teams in history responsible for the most stylish, sophisticated theater music of the 20th century. The Lerner-Loewe formula was to combine Loewe's lush, melodic music, redolent of Viennese waltz, with Lerner's witty, literate lyrics; this they did in some of the most popular and best-remembered musicals of the mid-20th Century, including My Fair Lady, Brigadoon, and Camelot. As told by scholars such as Laurence Maslon as well as Liza Lerner, Alan Lerner's daughter, the origin story of Lerner & Loewe illuminates how their disparate paths converged to form a dynamic duo that would define the future of American musical theater. WHAT'S THE BIG IDEA?"CHAMELEON"  by Maynard Ferguson (Columbia, 1974)I admit that I'm woefully unequipped to discuss Big Band music, or any Jazz for that matter, in great detail. Although, throughout my life I've developed a passion for the odd jazz master here and there, and as a matter of personal pride I've always strived to be conversant in the subject, at the very least. However, the trumpeter Maynard Ferguson was a blank slate for me. So, when combing through my 8 tracks and I stumbled upon this cart, I decided to give it a spin. This record depicts big band music at that cusp of time when it was struggling for relevance. Doc Severinson, Johnny Carson's band leader, (another trumpet player), played what seemed comically bloated and old fashioned - my parent's music. Maynard Ferguson was Doc's contemporary who played with him in Charlie Barnet's band in the late 40's, and he carried the big band flag all the way to his death in 2006 at the age of 78. When he made Chameleon in '74 he was 46 - still vital and searching for a key to the mystic highway. The covers of Paul McCartney's Jet, the titular funk track by Herbie Hancock, and the sprawling Livin' for the City by Stevie Wonder all testify to this cool Quebecois's questing versatility. And it's good stuff - lustily orchestrated and delivered. As his obit in the Washington Post described Mr. Ferguson's high register wailing: he was: “…. A gladiator, a combat soldier, a prize fighter, a circus strongman…” Now here's where the story gets weird and interesting for me: In 1963, Maynard brought his family to live with Timothy Leary and Ram Dass at their compound in Hitchcock Estates and lived there for three years, recording and taking psychedelics. Then, he went to India and taught Krishnamurti at the Rishi Valley School. And, he always attributed his ability to hit and sustain those high notes from his Yogic breath control. This turned my perception of this artist's output on its head. The Diad and Bedroth head to Baltimore to watch Al Pacino in one of his many Oscar-nominated performances as Arthur Kirkland, a lawyer who struggles with his conscience and with the legal system itself in the 1979 legal drama...And Justice for All - as always, from the dual standpoints of casual moviegoer and legal expert. Directed by Norman Jewison from a screenplay by Valerie Curtin and Barry Levinson, ...And Justice For All stars Jack Warden, John Forsythe, and Pacino, with strong supporting turns from Lee Strasberg, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Lahti, and Craig T. Nelson. Arthur Kirkland is a passionate young lawyer whose pursuit of true justice, especially for society's cast-offs, puts him at odds with the powers that be - particularly the ruthless Judge Henry T. Fleming, whose strict adherence to the letter of the law is keeping one of Kirkland's clients behind bars far longer than his crime deserves. As he deals with numerous other struggles, including his grandfather's decline into dementia, a colleague's mental breakdown, and another client's tragic reaction to a prison sentence, Kirkland is drawn, against his will, into the defense of Judge Fleming himself, who has been accused of rape. Will Kirkland's sense of duty compel him to provide a sound defense of his nemesis, or will his strong moral compass lead him down a path that is incompatible with his responsibility as an attorney? I could sing better in the past. I was a lot younger then, and was practicing more. Michael's voice sounded so angelic to me in singing a song. He had a sweet sounding voice. (Singing) He had a way of singing his words and expressing himself. When I heard Michael singing, Someone In The Dark, I was touched and felt some loneliness in my life just like he did. I think we all do sometimes. The song was written by Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman and was composed by Rod Temperton.I'm Gail Nobles. You're listening to Sound Flave (Radiae Applis).

Buffalo Springfield was a fusion of Canadian and American musicians, and was also a fusion of folk, country, and psychedelic rock.  The band lineup included Canadians Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, and Dewey Martin, and Americans Stephen Stills and Richie Furay.  While their debut album was recorded quickly, their second album, Buffalo Springfield Again, would be recorded over a period of nine months.  This was due to Young frequently departing from the band, and to bassist Bruce Palmer being deported and having to sneak into the country illegally to record the album.Young and Stills had met in 1965 in Ontario.  Stills was forming a band in Los Angeles with Richie Furay.  After a band breakup in Toronto, Young and Palmer went in search of Stills, driving from Canada to Los Angeles in a hearse.  After searching for a couple of weeks, the four met up in LA traffic.  Dewey Martin from the Standells was added as drummer.  The group gets its name from a steam-driven manufacturing machine made by the Buffalo Springfield Roller Company.  Buffalo Springfield would break up in 1968 after one more album, with the band members going on to other projects.  Stephen Stills and Neil Young would both appear in Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.  Richie Furay would go on to form the group Poco.  Of course Neil Young would have a solo career as well.  We hope you enjoy this album, one of the founding albums of the West Coast psychedelic sound. BluebirdStephen Stills wrote this multi-part song, and Neil Young is on lead guitar.  Stills wrote this song about his girlfriend, and is on lead vocals.  The jam in the center of the song is a duet with Stephen Stills on acoustic guitar and Neil Young on electric guitar.  You can hear the prototype of the sound that would soon become  Crosby, Stills and Nash in this song. Mr. SoulNeil Young wrote this track about his ambivalent-to-negative feelings about rock stardom.  While it is one of the more famous songs off this album, it was originally released as the B-side to "Bluebird."  Neil Young would record this later as a solo artist in 1982.Good Time BoyRichie Furay wrote this deeper cut.  This has a funky, soul sound, reminiscent of James Brown.  "Sock it to me now, groove it on me now, lay it on me now."Rock & Roll WomanIf this sounds even more like Crosby, Stills, and Nash than the others, there's a reason for it.  Neil Young did not play on this track, and David Crosby was brought in to sing backing vocals.  The rock and roll woman referenced in this song is Grace Slick.  ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:The Bare Necessities (from the animated film "Jungle Book")Disney's animated take on Rudyard Kipling's book would be released this month.  It was the last film to be produced by Walt Disney, who died during its production. STAFF PICKS:Ode to Billie Joe by Bobbie GentryRob starts the staff picks with a story telling song.  This gothic tale is about a family discussion of Billy Joe Mcallister, who had committed suicide.  Gentry said that the song is about indifference to suffering of others, and was inspired by the murder of Emmitt Till.  In the Heat of the Night by Ray CharlesBrian's staff pick is the theme from the motion picture of the same name starring Sydney Poitier.  The score for the movie was created by Quincey Jones, who also composed the song.  Marilyn and Alan Bergman wrote the song for the film to have a backwoods gospel feel.  Lonely Drifter by Pieces of EightBruce brings us some Carolina beach music.  Originally recorded by The O'Jays in 1963, Pieces of Eight would record this and hit the charts as a one-hit wonder.  The group was formed when Raleigh based group The Tassels joined with two of the Greenwood, South Carolina band The Swinging Medallions.  The name comes from the group being an 8-piece band.My White Bicycle by TomorrowWayne closes out the staff picks with a psychedelic one-hit wonder.  The guitarist on this is Steve Howe, who would later be a member of the band Yes.  The reference to "white bicycle" was inspired by an early sharing program in Amsterdam where bicycles were painted white and provided to the public for free use. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Title 15 by the Rolling StonesWe close with an instrumental song off the Stones album "Their Satanic Magesties Request."

Director James Gunn, who helmed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films, will be returning for the roughly 40-minute short, which he says will be required viewing for fans of the franchise. Now, Gunn has expanded on his promotion for the special to reveal that it will also be "introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time."   Before the Guardians of the Galaxy take back the spotlight in their special, they'll be tagging along in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder. The film is expected to come out on May 6, 2022 and features the remaining Guardians as supporting characters, with Gunn communicating with Waititi to ensure that the characters were handled consistently ahead of their next big screen outing.   The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives on Disney+ in 2022, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters May 23, 2023.     Inside Marvel's ‘What If…?' Finale, Season 2 Plans and the T'Challa Spinoff That Never Was https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/marvel-what-if-season-1-finale-tchalla-spin-off-chadwick-boseman-1235082366/ “There was planning to have Star Lord T'Challa spin off into his own show,” [Driector Bryan] Andrews tells Variety. “We were all very excited. We know [Chadwick] would have loved it, too.”   There's also a brief moment in the finale where we meet an alternate version of Gamora with a sort of space Tony Stark. Will we get to see more of that universe in Season 2?   Bradley: That's a definite yes. Basically what happened was we originally had an episode planned for earlier in the season that was a fun, light-hearted, living, breathing Tony Stark-centric episode with Gamora. However, due to the COVID pandemic, one of our animation houses was hit incredibly hard, and the episode needed to be pushed into Season 2, because it would not be finished in time. Given everything that we've all went through over the past two years, pushing an episode of television is absolutely nothing in comparison. And we understood. We hope fans enjoy the ride next year.   (2 Part Story) Marvel's What If...? team promises 'resolution' in season finale and teases season 2 https://ew.com/tv/marvels-what-if-season-1-finale-ac-bradley-bryan-andrews/ ...At least we know season 2 is coming since Bradley says that all the episodes of next season have already been written. "Going into the second season, we're sticking with anthology form, and it's going to be all-new stories, lots of fun, new heroes, and pulling more from Phase Four than we were obviously able to this season," she says. "Hopefully, we'll see hints of Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Black Widow characters. The fun of What If...? is that we get to explore the entire infinite multiverse, so we try and bounce around as much as we can. I want to play with all these characters, and as much as I love Captain Carter, we've got to share the love. I'm very excited to show new worlds, new heroes."   Bradley also hints that while many of season 1's episodes featured "big, let's end the world, let's kill everyone" arcs, season 2 episodes will "focus a lot more on the character stories and these heroes and showing a different side of them that people don't expect and hopefully they can relate to."   "We're not a show that's designed to set up Avengers 5," she adds. "It's supposed to be just about entertainment and what these heroes mean to us. When I took the job, one of my rules was let's be free. We're in the multiverse — we should be as free as can be and go and run into the wild, into the stories the movies will never do, into the stories the TV shows will never do, and show both Disney and the fans all the possibilities of these characters." What If...? Head Writer Teases Gamora "Prequel" Episode in Season 2 https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/what-if-gamora-episode-season-2-prequel-spoilers/ As Bradley explained in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, the episode recounting those versions of Tony and Gamora ended up being delayed due to production problems tied to the COVID-19 pandemic. But as Bradley reassured, that story is coming at some point in the series' second season, as a sort of "prequel" for her appearance in the finale.   "We definitely will," Bradley said, when asked if we'll see more of Gamora. "What happened with the Gamora episode, there was originally supposed to be — early on in the season — a Tony and Gamora-centric episode. However, due to COVID and production delays, one of our amazing, amazing animation houses around the globe got hit pretty hard by the pandemic. And we were left with two choices: push the entire season to later this year, or push this one episode to Season 2. We made the choice to push that episode to Season 2, and hoped that seeing Gamora in the finale serves as a teaser for what is to come. In season two, it'll almost be like a little bit of a prequel, we'll see how Tony and Gamora became friends, because those two don't even interact in the main MCU universe."   "Given all the upheaval that we've been through in the past two years, pushing an episode is nothing, and we completely understand," Bradley continued. "Our animation houses have been absolute rock stars in pulling off this show." ‘WandaVision' Spinoff Starring Kathryn Hahn in the Works at Disney Plus (EXCLUSIVE) https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/wandavision-spinoff-kathryn-hahn-1235082445/ A “WandaVision” spinoff starring Kathryn Hahn is in development at Disney Plus from Marvel Studios, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.   Hahn would reprise the role of Agatha Harkness in the series, which is described by sources as a dark comedy, though exact plot details remain under wraps. “WandaVision” head writer Jac Schaeffer would serve as the writer and executive producer on the project. Should the spinoff go forward, it would be the first project Schaeffer has set up with Marvel since she signed an overall deal with them and 20th Television in May.   FEEDBACK [1:13:38]   TWITTER   https://twitter.com/LegendsofSHIELD/status/1445896570143117312?s=20 Legends S.H.I.E.L.D. @LegendsofSHIELD Describe this week's @whatifofficial episode "What If...The Watcher Broke His Oath?" in one word. Meaning, an official part of the continuity of the fictional universes which officially comprise the MCU: Earth-199999 and its adjacent universes confirmed as parts of the franchise. (In the case of the shows, the letter is specifically pleading for them to remain as Earth-199999, with the issue of shunting them to another universe addressed.)   OUTRO [1:19:15]   We would love to hear back from you! As Backstage Babble approaches it's year anniversary, I will be airing some of the episodes that best exemplify what I have been trying to do with this podcast. And certainly my conversation with the legendary Alan Bergman fits in that category. At 95, he was able to offer incredible wisdom and stories that are a must-hear for younger generations. He shares the secret to movie scoring, how Fred Astaire made an exception for him, Frank Sinatra's nickname for him, the unusual prompt that led him to “What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?,” which comes first: the lyrics or the music, the secret to his long-lasting partnership with his wife, Marilyn Bergman, how the idea for Something More! Came about, his musical influences growing up, and the two books every young songwriter must read. Plus: Norman Lear, Barbra Streisand, Michel LeGrand, and more!

Roku acquisition of Quibi content is a possible play for a “Netflix Light“ platform. Will Roku expand the Quibi shows into full length or does this make Roku a place to view a long tail of existing content? Disney does a Friday evening news dump to announceme Tony Chambers' new position as Head of Disney Theatrical Distribution. Reporting now into Kareem Daniel's division instead of studio chief Alan Bergman which marks a major shift toward a general platform distribution. Is a more general platform marketing far behind?

UNTIL I SMILE AT YOU: HOW ONE GIRL'S HEARTBREAK ELECTRIFIED FRANK SINATRA'S FAME! by Peter Jennings with contributions by Tom Sandler “Until I Smile At You” reveals for the first time the life of one of the most enduring musical talents in the 20th century: a young Canadian girl named Ruth Lowe, who wrote a song that dynamited Frank Sinatra's career into the stratosphere in 1940, “I’ll Never Smile Again.” The song charted on Billboard for an unheard of 12 weeks and has been recorded by more than 150 performers around the world. In fact, it’s still being recorded today (the book opens in studio as famed Blood, Sweat & Tears singer, David Clayton-Thomas, records his own unique version). Ruth Lowe has been called “One of the Architects of the American Ballad,” she is the recipient of a Grammy Award, her songs have been inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame and she’s about to be added to the Great American Songbook Foundation Hall of Fame. As Nancy Sinatra says in the book’s Foreword, "There’s a reason why 'I’ll Never Smile Again' has endured: it was a perfect song, interpreted by the perfect singer, at the perfect time.” The book reveals that Ruth Lowe was no one-hit-wonder: she went on to write Sinatra’s theme song, “Put Your Dreams Away” (the last song played at his funeral) plus 50 other tunes for Broadway and Hollywood. (“Until I Smile At You” reveals the humorous story of how she had to write Sinatra’s theme song in under 24 hours.) Amazingly, no one has been privy to Ruth Lowe’s life story until now. Peter Jennings, the book’s author (who has written six other books), was personally selected by her family to write “Until I Smile At You.” And there’s this to add to Ruth’s narrative: in today's era of women claiming their full rights, consider that she was one of the earliest liberated females who worked in a man's world (Tin Pan Alley) and never let her gender, or her attractive good looks, get in the way of her outstanding talent. One of the interesting features of “Until I Smile At You” is Peter Jennings’ interviews with such luminaries as Bernie Taupin (Elton John's lyricist for over 50 years), Sir Tim Rice (who writes lyrics for Andrew Lloyd Webber), Alan Bergman (who has written award-winning songs for Barbra Streisand, Sinatra, etc.), the late Frank Sinatra Jr., music historian Chuck Granata, Sinatra biographer, James Kaplan, and many others... all of whom cast a glow on Ruth’s talents. Also featured are stories from Ruth’s late sister Mickey Cohen, who regales the author with details about how Ruth, whom she adored, wrote “the song.” There is also an interview with noted businessman/philanthropist Seymour Schulich who worked with Ruth’s second husband, Nat Sandler. (It was MGM that wanted to make a movie of Ruth’s life back in the day, staring Judy Garland, but Nat nixed the deal because he didn’t want her clinging to the past.) With the world facing increased levels of stress and anxiety, this is an ideal time for a story like “Until I Smile At You” with its positive, feel-good story of resilience. Peter Jennings writes books from Fairview, his modern home overlooking Georgian Bay in Mundy's Harbour, Midland, Ontario, Canada. "Shark Assault: An Amazing Story of Survival" was published by Dundurn in November, 2015 (http://www.sharkassault.com). The book has received wide acclaim (re-printed less than one month after launch; Readers Digest publishing a 4,000 word excerpt in 15 languages around the world). His newest books, "Why Being Happy Matters" and "Behind The Seams" are now available on Amazon. Peter is also a singer of the Great American Songbook standards (http://www.pjentertainer.com). Become a Patron! Who knew that the fantasy dangers in Fallout 76 would be brought to the real world! GameStop has recalled the Power Armor Collectible Helmet - Nuka Cola edition due to health hazards. This story and more are part of our news lineup. Let us get into what is happening in the geek and video game world.   Geek News   Kevin Feige and Star Wars Marvel's Kevin Feige is rumored to produce his own Star Wars project. It seems that he will be part of the new wave of projects to be set in the Disney Star Wars Universe. Feige has met with Kathleen Kennedy and studio co-chairman Alan Horn and Alan Bergman. Feige has also declared that he wants Bree Larson to star in the next Star Wars project where he is the producer.   Wakeen Phoenix's Joker Controversy Wakeen Phoenix's Joker is just around the corner, and the internet never disappoints in drumming up controversies. Different groups are declaring that the movie will be a rallying cry for different groups to enact violence. Jon and I find the claims ridiculous. This movie is a piece of art and should be allowed to explore important topics. The topics of mental health and how we treat other people are topics that have profound relevance in our society. What pushes a man to the breaking point? What could we do for our neighbors to prevent what happens to Wakeen Phoenix's Joker? These and other questions we should be able to explore in films.    Ninja on Masked Singer On Masked Singer, the ice cream mask is revealed as Ninja! He performed Old Town Road as he rode out on a lawn mover. An impressive performance from the career video game streamer! It amused us that he was introduced as a prominent Twitch streamer. Either this show's recording was before his transition to Mixer, or they improperly said where he currently hosts his channel. It is nothing major but enough to make us chuckle.   Video Game News   Mario Kart Tour Microtransactions Mario Kart Tour has released on mobile devices. It is a time for celebration! Or is it? The game is fun and entertaining, but the microtransactions are steep. The 200cc, the game's fastest mode, will cost the player five dollars a month subscription. The subscription also includes gold gifts by racing in tours and badges from challenges. Mario's name is in the game, so he is one of the main playable characters, right? Wrong! He is behind a paywall. There are two ways the player can acquire Mario. The mobile game has a 20 dollar Mario pack. The pack includes Mario, Mario's kart, and other specialty items. The other method to acquire Mario and other characters is through their premium currency. Their top rupees option at 135 rupees will cost the player 70 dollars. The player then pays with the rupees to utilize the "Warp Pipe" to fire off characters, karts, and other items. One fire cost five rupees, and ten fires cost forty-five rupees. Will this monetization model be able to compete with the other options on the market? Only time will tell.   Call of Duty: Modern Warfare The next Call of Duty is just around the corner, and it appears that some familiar faces will be greeting us again. This Modern Warfare will be a soft reboot of the 2007 release. The 2019 CoD: Modern Warfare will bring back well-known characters and voices back in the game, but the story will be updated to reflect the times. Every CoD has a core focus on multiplayer, and it looks like the game is here to impress. The developers have put in a new "Realism" mode that removes the HUD. In the match, the player can breach doors for ambushes and utilize night vision goggles on nighttime maps. Two new modes will be coming to this title. A 2v2 mode called Gunfight and Groud Wars, which sets large teams against each other. The developers went out of their way to emphasize that Ground Wars isn't a battle royale and that they had no plans to implement such a mode into the game. As of right now, PlayStation has a year-long exclusive on the Special Ops: Survival Mode.   Google Play Pass Apple Arcade made a splash in the mobile market by providing premium quality games for five dollars a month. To our surprise, Google is joining in this mobile model. Google is releasing Google Play Pass. The service will be 5 dollars a month, and it will include a wide selection of games. Part of the game collection includes Stardew Valley, Limbo, Old Man's journey, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. If you are interested in trying this service, then their free trial might be a great deal. They offer a 10 Day Free Trial. Then after the trial, the first year is charged at 2 dollars a month.    Hearthstone Pro Caught Playing Two Games At Once Lihn "Seiko" Nguyen competed in the Grandmasters League match, but he decided to play this game a bit differently. Instead of giving the game his all and demonstrating is real prowess at the game, he tried to play Hearthstone and Auto-Chess at the same time. People on the stream noted that he looked distracted, looking from his lap to the screen regularly. His made a misstep during that game that turned out to be his undoing. He played the Legendary Minion Shirvallah the Tiger which is an excellent source of healing. For the current meta of the game, the proper play is to play Shirvallah and then use the Baleful Banker card to shuffle a copy of Shirvallah back into the deck. He missed this step which sealed his loss. The Hearthstone commentators and communities were upset and outraged that "Seiko" took up a Grandmaster spot from players who would have taken the match seriously. Ultimately, his heart and head weren't where they were supposed to be. The Grandmaster League is the pinnacle of Hearthstone, and it is disrespectful to the Grandmasters, and it is rude to those who want to be in his position. On top of it all, the audience watches these matches to see the top players in the world compete. If Esports is supposed to be taken as seriously as regular sporting events, then these expectations are not out of line. Honestly, at the level, you are a professional and should conduct yourself as such.    Showstopper Fallout 76 is the gift that keeps on giving. However, this time, it doesn't look as if Bethesda is directly responsible for this debacle. A recall issued for the Power Armor Collectible Helmet - Nuka Cola which was sold by GameStop due to the helmet being a health hazard. Reports say that mold can be present on the fabric insert inside the helmet. This mold can lead to respiratory or other infections with compromised immune systems or damaged lungs. At this time, no incidents have been reported. Though the manufacture was Chronicle LLC, of Irving, Texas, the helmet was manufactured in China. If you have this helmet, then go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. We will also leave the consumer contact information for GameStop. Consumer Contact: GameStop at 800-883-8895 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, email at ProductSafety@gamestop.com with "Product Recall" as the email subject, or online at www.GameStop.com and click on the "Recall" link at the top of the page for more information.   Thank You For Listening!   If you have an idea for an episode or a person of note in the video game industry, i.e., a developer, influencer, illustrator, etc. then let us know!
