Commercial: CU of GA STORY 1: The Little Sober Bar to Oen in Canton This Fall The Little Sober Bar, a mobile non-alcoholic bar based in Woodstock, is opening a permanent location in Canton at 160 Lee St. Suite A this September. The new retail space will offer a range of non-alcoholic beverages, including alcohol-free spirits, wines, beers, and mixers. In addition to the brick-and-mortar store, the bar will continue its mobile popups statewide. Founder Bryttany Hyde expressed excitement about expanding inventory and engaging more with the community through this new location. For updates, follow @thelittlesoberbar on social media. STORY 2: Property Taxes Could Be Going Up in Woodstock. What We Know The city of Woodstock is proposing a new maintenance and operations millage rate of 5.223 mills, which would increase property taxes by 2.855%. This rate is 0.145 mills higher than the rollback rate of 5.078 mills needed to maintain the same revenue as last year. If approved, a home valued at $475,000 would see a tax increase of about $27.55, while a non-homestead property valued at $350,000 would face an increase of about $20.30. The city's budget for fiscal year 2025 is $80.6 million, a 10% decrease from last year. Public hearings on the proposed rate will be held on August 12, 19, and 26, with a final vote scheduled for August 26. All meetings will be at the Chambers at City Center, 8534 Main St. For more details, visit woodstockga.gov. STORY 3: Cherokee Sheriff's Office: Tree Falls on Car, Killing Driver A 27-year-old man, Levi Benjamin Wilson from Woodstock, has died after a tree fell on his car during storms in southeast Cherokee County. The incident occurred on Vaughn Road near Canton around 7:48 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies found Wilson deceased in the vehicle; no one else was in the car. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office reported the tragic event on Wednesday morning. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. Selected as one of only four middle schools for this event, the chorus also received a unique grant to commission and premiere a new piece of music. STORY 5: Sawnee EMC Acquires More Solar Energy Sawnee Electric Membership Corporation (Sawnee EMC) is expanding its solar energy portfolio by participating in five new utility-scale solar projects totaling 447 megawatts. Sawnee EMC will secure 60 megawatts from these projects, which are developed by Green Power EMC and will be operated by Silicon Ranch. The projects, scheduled to begin construction in 2025 and start coming online from late 2026 to late 2027, will be purchased at a fixed price for 25 years. This initiative aligns with Sawnee EMC's commitment to a diversified, environmentally responsible energy portfolio. With this addition, Sawnee EMC's renewable assets will reach approximately 184 megawatts. Commercial: INGLES 6 STORY 6: CCSD: Drive Safely Around School Buses, Bus Stops, Schools As the school year began on August 1, the Cherokee County School District urged drivers to be cautious and follow road rules around schools and buses. Key reminders included: - Slowing down for school buses with yellow flashing lights; stopping for red flashing lights and waiting until they stopped flashing before resuming driving. - Never passing a stopped school bus; stopping whether behind or on the opposite side, unless it was a divided highway. - Slowing down near bus stops and school zones, and being vigilant for children crossing the street. - Expecting heavy traffic around schools as parents dropped off students before using CCSD buses. Local law enforcement increased their presence to ensure safety. For more information, the district directed people to visit www.cherokeek12.net/schools. STORY 7: Cherokee County Websites Shifts to .gov As of August 1, 2024, Cherokee County has transitioned to a .gov domain for its official website and email addresses. The new website is www.cherokeecountyga.gov, and county emails now use @cherokeecountyga.gov. This change, aimed at enhancing cybersecurity and ensuring authenticity, follows over a year of effort by the county's IT department to secure the domain and migrate content. While most county websites have switched to .gov, some, like Cherokee Recreation and Parks, will remain on .org and .com domains. For comprehensive information, visit the updated county site. We'll have closing comments after this. COMMERCIAL: Heller 1 SIGN OFF – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Cherokee Tribune Ledger Podcast. This week Michelle and Meera discuss the brand new Umami Seasons Hot Pot in the Delmar Loop that serves Taiwanese hot pot, which is an interactive style of Asian dining where food is cooked at the table in different types of broth. They also discuss the emerging hot pot trend in general at the recently opened Urban Kitchen in Chesterfield Valley and at Tai Ke Shabu Shabu in Olivette. Another trend in the conversation: fusion. From Indian-fusion restaurants like Taco Twist in the Central West End to Tikka Tangy and Amrut Fusion in Chesterfield to the soon-to-open Ramsay's Kitchen at Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis to Oats & Honey Cafe in Creve Coeur; restaurants are blending cuisines more than ever. Finally, from the April issue, they talk about all the reasons Sauce loves Trattoria Marcella in Lindenwood Park. Mary Langley was born Mary Hinderer in Ohio in the 1880s. In her early years, she and her family moved to Indiana near Camp Chesterfield, a popular community for spiritualists and mediums. By the 1920s, Mary was a successful medium, traveling regionally to offer her services. By the mid-1920s she was working in Covington, where she was arrested and put on trial for disorderly conduct. The local authorities believed Mary Langley was a fraud after exposing her by raiding a séance at her home. Her dedicated followers disagreed, and many continued to defend her in the days leading up to her trial. Most of my research for this episode came from The Kentucky Post archives. Heidi McDonald of Foodies of Lafayette joins Discover Lafayette to discuss her passion for sharing positive news about all things related to good food. Foodies of Lafayette is a group that supports local restaurants while cultivating a positive experience for its members. It is promoted via its Facebook page where local restaurants can post daily and weekly specials, members post queries about eating establishments, learn where to source ingredients, and share recipes or photos of their kitchen creations. Foodies of Lafayette's FB page is not a food critique page and does not allow negativity or bad reviews—it's a positive place. There's no advertising, politics, drama or anything else complicating it. Four moderators help in keeping the FB page clear of harsh words as the group endeavors to promote wonderful food offered everywhere from gas stations to high-end restaurants. With social media being a magnet for rude and mean words, this Foodies page is a site for sore eyes and a delightful experience in how to uplift others as the good news is shared. Jason Stoner, unavailable for taping this episode, joined the group in January 2020 and was appointed moderator shortly after. His contributions to the page have been significant. Jason & Stephen's Sunday Dinners are over the top and they currently host different Foodies of Lafayette members once a month, never repeating a Sunday Dinner. Much planning and passion from the atmosphere, playlist, table, and food prove their love for entertaining guests through a fabulous dining experience. Jason assists with the day-to-day operations of the page and planning Foodies of Lafayette events. Fuji Sushi has been awarded the 2023 Culinary Excellence Award by Foodies of Lafayette. The first restaurant to receive this award, the restaurant's owners will be recognized later this year. Heidi's experience at Fuji Sushi, 4416 Johnston Street, Suite A, in Lafayette, sparked her vision to create Foodies of Lafayette. She identified the pure passion that Fuji brings to the table and found it troubling that few people knew about them. Their food and service were second to none, but like many restaurants, they had little or no budget for advertising. Heidi started Foodies of Lafayette in December 2019, thus creating an accessible place for establishments to get the word out about their restaurants and Foodies to get the information they're looking for without advertising, politics, drama or anything else complicating it. Her vision worked in a big way. Fuji Sushi and others now have a forum to post daily and weekly specials, new menu items, and photos. Heidi thought a few of her friends would join and is mind-blown by all the responses the page now generates. The page currently has approximately 49,000 members and is growing at a rate of 500 per week. Foodies of Lafayette's success has led Heidi and Jason Stoner to take the group's reach one step further. Plans are in the works to create a line of merchandise such as ball caps, t-shirts, backpacks, and koozies emblazoned with the logo so that fellow "foodies can quickly identify their peeps in a crowd," as Heidi puts it. Heidi McDonald pictured with her husband and her sweet young family. She works by day for JP Morgan Chase and in her 'spare' time, runs Foodies of Lafayette. We thank Heidi for her generous spirit and love for all things food! Visit Foodies of Lafayette to find out more about all of the local delicious food you can find locally. In closing, we want to share one of the best-kept secrets in town: Ochsner Lafayette General's cafeteria offers some of the best food in town at unbelievable prices. One of Heidi's favorite dishes is the crawfish etouffee! Who would have thought?

A owner of house in Buford that was undergoing work arrived on Friday afternoon to find firefighters battling a blaze at the home. A child who lived in another house called 911 at 5:49 p.m. to report that the house on the 2000 block of Appling Circle in Buford was on fire. A dispatcher could hear explosions and popping sounds during the 911 call. Crews arrived five minutes later to find the carport of the single-story house on fire. A photo released by the fire department shows flames had spread into the house. Crews arrived five minutes later to find the carport of the single-story house on fire. A photo released by the fire department shows flames had spread into the house. Crews used two 1-and-three-quarters-inch attack lines to battle the fire. Firefighters were able to get inside the house and confirm no one was inside and the fire was under control by 6:09 p.m. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire has not been determined. Gwinnett County police have arrested two people after an investigation into a fentanyl overdose case that involved a 16-year-old female victim. Lawrenceville resident Drolvin Esau Calix-Rodriguez, 21, and Norcross resident Elizabeth Faye Elliott, 19, were arrested on Tuesday. The overdose that police were investigating involved counterfeit Percocet fentanyl. Calix-Rodriguez faces multiple charges, including two counts of sale of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, and possession of a stolen firearm during commissions of a crime. Meanwhile, Elliott faces a sale of a Schedule I or II controlled substance charge. Police are using the arrests to remind residents about state laws surrounding medical amnesty and access to Naloxone, which is a drug used to counter the effects of an overdose. GNR Public Health offers free training on how to use NARCAN, which is another name for Naloxone at 52 Gwinnett Drive, Suite A in Lawrenceville. The Gwinnett County Police Department does work with the county's District Attorney's Office to charge and prosecute people for charges related to overdoses, including felony murder, in an effort to fight drug trafficking in the county. A Gwinnett County Public Schools bus driver quit his job just over two weeks before police arrested him on child molestation and public indecency charges. Former bus driver Steven Wilkins resigned from his job on February 10, according to GCPS officials, and he was subsequently arrested by Gwinnett County police on Monday. A parent had raised concerns to Gwinnett County Police about Wilkins' behavior, prompting an investigation, Suwanee Elementary School Principal Mary B. Taylor told parents in a letter. GCPS officials said Wilkins was removed from driving his bus route as soon as the parent raised their concerns about his behavior. District officials said the parent's complaint and Wilkins' arrest serve as an example of why they said parents should report any suspicious behavior that they see taking place. Wilkins was still being held in the Gwinnett County Jail as of Friday. More than a month after police arrested one suspect in the murder of a man who died after he was shot in the Norcross area last November, investigators are asking the public for information about another suspect. Lawrenceville resident Alinton Joel Riveria-Zuniga was shot on Estates Court in unincorporated Norcross on Nove, ber 27 and later died from his injuries at a hospital. Police arrested Lawrenceville resident Jose Caraballo on January 18 and charged him with felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during a felony in connection with the shooting. Now police are looking for an additional suspect in Zuniga's murder, and here are a least two possible names that officials said this suspect has gone by. Detectives believe the suspect has used the name Brayan Duarte and Brayan Sanchez. If anyone has any information, they are asked to please call Gwinnett Police or Crime Stoppers. Gwinnett Technical College is set to open a gleaming new facility, and the three-story building — dedicated to computer information systems, cybersecurity and emerging technologies training — will be complemented by other renovations and improvements on campus. Classes in the 82,000-square-foot facility are set to begin this week. The $42 million building will house the computer science and gaming departments, a cybersecurity war room, gaming technologies room, 29 classrooms and an eSports lab. The construction of the new building set off a domino effect for other buildings on campus. In addition to the new building, Cannon is particularly enthused about renovations taking place in the college's main building and the resurfacing of parking lots on campus. According to a release from Gwinnett Tech, other improvements on campus include the construction of a new “quad” area near Building 100 and the new facility; the renovation and expansion of the One-Stop area; a new entrance for the library, with more computer stations and the creation of the Center for Teaching Excellence; and a “facelift” for the student Life Center. Cannon added that almost all of the planning and design phases of the project were completed during the COVID pandemic. Families choose private schools for a variety of reasons, one of which is the parents themselves attended an independent school and wanted their children to have a similar experience. There are a number of students at Greater Atlanta Christian whose parents also went to private school, but more than half of the students at GAC come from what is termed “first-time private-school families.” When asked what often goes into the decision to enroll children in a private school like GAC for the first time, Dr. Katherine White, GAC's vice president of advancement, pointed to several factors, a number of which can apply to just about any independent school. White also pointed to the consistency in curriculum, the spirit of collaboration and the feeling students have of being part of a small but significant community. GAC has grown a great deal since its founding in 1968 with some 150 students, and even though the student body now numbers in the 1,500s (with some 650 in the high school), the determination to offer small class sizes has not changed over the last seven decades. GAC also has an exemplary graduation rate of 100% and White said that 100% of GAC grads go on to continue their education after high school. LIKEITORNOT is back with another straight up classic! And this time in we are getting back to our bread & butter with interviews down at Post Office Studios. This one here is with POS recording artist Yung Wolf. An old soul but young at heart, Wolf has been making waves for years in Tacoma and around the Puget Sound Region, making him seem Heath Ledger's age, not 21, which is what he is. We start off talking about his modeling career. We talk about mental health and his openness with taking medication. There's a Suite A s/o! Also, learn a new fact or two about Angel's slugger Mike Trout. We talk about how supportive his parents have been with his music although they've heard the lyrics. His mom DM's well known rappers all the time to tell them about Wolf. He tells us about his high school golf career. We also talk about growing up in Tacoma and his musical influences, which began at an early age. We play some old Shawn Parker cause we balling like Kareem (and he's like Wolf's #1 influence next to Playboi Carti) DJ QJ provides much appreciated support as Hyp's co-host. Furthermore, beers are shotgunned and much more shit you can only hear by tuning in to this episode of LIKEITORNOT. What a run-on sentence that was
Inside The Office During grad school, Dr. Nick suffered a boating injury to his leg and foot. He was told he would have to rehabilitate for 6 months just to be able to hike again. He was also informed that climbing would be out of the question, permanently. Thanks to the Chiropractic Doctors at Southern Califonia University of Health Sciences, he was able to resume hiking in two months and climbing within the fourth month. It was an eye-opening experience for the lives he was about to change in his chosen profession. It led him into studying sports medicine during his internship within the Cal State athletic department. After college, Dr. Nick settled into family practice and begin to work with athletes of all ages and abilities. When his daughter Ella was born, he was told that she would need to be on acid reflux medications indefinitely and that surgery was likely. His focus shifted from sports medicine to holistic family and pediatric chiropractic. In a short time, he was able to witness his daughter's miraculous recovery without the use of medications or surgery. She was living congruent to a natural chiropractic lifestyle and thriving. These experiences as well as many other experiences within his family practice shaped his vision for a healthy lifestyle available to all his practice members.Outside the OfficeDr. Nick loves spending time outdoors and is an avid camper, climber and hiker. He also enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends on the river, in the desert, and most of all in the mountains. We love families and take total delight in seeing our practice members living lives of abundant health. At Seven88, homeowners can experience a low-maintenance lifestyle with a wide-angled view. Located in Atlanta's historic post-industrial district, Seven88 West Midtown offers walkability and residences designed to fit the surrounding lifestyle and area. According to Adkins, the Westside is just booming with new developments making it more walkable, more entertaining with more of a neighborhood feel. “Seven88 is special because it offers a luxury option that is low to no maintenance with full-service amenities,” Adkins said. Having lived in a high-rise herself, Adkins believes one of the most important highlights is the team that manages the building's day-to-day operations, and the team at Seven88 is excited to meet all the homeowners, get to know them and “make their living experience here exceptional.” Walkability and full-service amenities are also other major highlights of the lifestyle available at Seven88. According to Adkins, as they approach 1.5 years of sales, the team has discovered everyone has unique wants and needs prompting them to add additional amenities and services. The building is even catered toward homeowners' best friends with an indoor dog park, perfect for all seasons, with Astro Turf, windows and more, as well as a dog spa for post-playtime baths or groomers to make house calls. Additionally, Seven88 features 24/7 concierge services to work with dry cleaning and car detailing vendors, handle and accept packages including small, large or refrigerated, make hotel or dinner reservations and more. Additional amenities include: Lobby with coffee and refreshment bar Clubroom with demonstration kitchen, billiards and lounge Amenity deck with outdoor dining, barbecue and fireplace Resort–style saltwater pool and whirlpool spa State–of–the–art fitness center Bike storage Controlled access parking deck The building's prime Westside Atlanta location also puts residents near plenty of popular destinations; Westside Provisions is only a 10-minute walk while Mercedes-Benz Stadium is only a 10-minute drive. The Georgia Institute of Technology is also within walking distance, Hartsfield Jackson-International Airport is 11 miles away and I-75 and I-85, MARTA and the Atlanta BeltLine are all nearby. When it comes to selecting the perfect condominium at Seven 88, according to Adkins, there are options that “really cater to everyone.” There are studio condominiums that start from the mid-$300,000s, one-bedrooms starting from the $400,000s, two-bedrooms starting from the mid-$500,000, three bedrooms starting from the mid-$800,000s and, of course, penthouses with a one-bedroom option starting from the $600,000s. https://youtu.be/gtFQzXdZ31I The Sales Gallery, located at 930 Howell Mill Rd, Suite A in Atlanta, displays a wide array of available features while multiple model condominiums further display layout options. "Why is the world so angry?" Cush wants Hunter out of the studio when he's producing his show. Hunter wants to nap on the couch. Today "Hon-TAH!" and "Cushalicious" get the work spouse equivalent of couple's counseling with Jennifer Higley from Wildflower Center for Counseling. Hunter gives us a "short" history of his height issues, Cush gets some vindication for demanding his privacy and Jennifer... is a tremendously good sport. She helps us understand that "Anger is the least vulnerable emotion" and "If you're listening to someone's boundary, you're respecting them." She also gives us some steps for figuring out if we're really angry or just masking a more vulnerable emotion - and for managing our anger when it's real. Look forward to a few great quotes ("I can't wait until I'm really small... like hobbit-sized"), Hunter's evolving mispronunciation of the word "charcuterie" and some actionable steps you can take to better tend to your inner landscape. If you feel you need some help, call Wildflower Center for Counseling at (843) 936-2566. Their offices are located at 268 W. Coleman Boulevard, Suite A, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.
