The CW is developing a script for a Batwoman series for 2019, EW has learned. While there's no casting news as of yet, the character will make her debut in this year's DC crossover event, as Arrow star Stephen Amell announced in May. EW has also learned that the forthcoming crossover will include Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl — but not DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The series, which has only reached a script-development deal at this point, will be written by Caroline Dries, who is also executive producing alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns (under his new Mad Ghost Production banner). The annual DC crossover event is slated to air in December. http://ew.com/tv/2018/07/17/batwoman-series-greg-berlanti-development-cw GENERAL DC NEWS:   'The Flash' Star Danielle Panabaker to Make Her Directorial Debut in Season 5! (Exclusive) (Date: 16 July 2018) In addition to returning as S.T.A.R. Labs scientist Caitlin Snow in The CW series' fifth season, actress Danielle Panabaker will be stepping behind the camera to direct an upcoming episode. "I am so humbled by this opportunity to utilize everything that I have learned as a storyteller to bring an episode of The Flash to life," she said. "I couldn't be more thrilled to have the chance to work alongside our extremely talented (and vast) team that works so hard to make each and every episode of the show. I wouldn't be here without the support of my Flash family, and I am so thankful for this opportunity to continue to grow and challenge myself as an artist. https://www.etonline.com/the-flash-star-danielle-panabaker-to-make-her-directorial-debut-in-season-5-exclusive-105876   Smallville alum Sam Witwer joins Supergirl season 4 as Agent Liberty (Date: 17 July 2018) Supergirl has lured in yet another Smallville vet! Sam Witwer, who starred on Smallville season 8 as Doomsday, has joined the CW superhero drama's upcoming fourth season in the series regular role of DC Comics character Agent Liberty. In the show's interpretation on the character, Agent Liberty is the ruthless and terrifying founder and figurehead of Children of Liberty, a hate group that supports a human-first world order. According to a description from the show's producers, he's “a brilliant orator in the guise of a family man” and the scariest thing about him is how easily he can convince people that he's right. Given that Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and the DEO tend to be pro-alien integration, it's definitely fair to assume they won't get along with Agent Liberty and his Children of Liberty. https://ew.com/tv/2018/07/17/smallville-sam-witwer-supergirl-season-4-agent-liberty/?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly DC Universe Announces Fourth Live-Action Series: Stargirl (Date: 19 July 2018) The release date for DC Universe is still set for “fall 2018,” but we have more information about the streaming service. After recent events, Oliver decides to recruit a group of unlikely allies – Slade (guest star Manu Bennett), Nyssa (guest star Katrina Law), Merlyn (John Barrowman) and Digger Harkness (guest star Nick. E. Tarabay) – to defeat Chase. However, Chase has his own army – Black Siren (guest star Katie Cassidy), Evelyn Sharp (guest star Madison McLaughlin) and Talia al Ghul (guest star Lexa Doig) – and the forces collide in an explosive season finale.                                                               “Supergirl” Season 2 finale: Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) challenges Rhea (guest star Teri Hatcher) to battle to save National City. Meanwhile, Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin) returns and Cat Grant (guest star Calista Flockhart) offers Supergirl some sage advice.      “The Flash” Season 3 finale: With nothing left to lose, Barry (Grant Gustin) takes on Savitar (also Grant Gustin) in an epic conclusion to season three. Link:http://www.cbr.com/the-cw-reveals-season-finale-synopses-for-flash-arrow-supergirl/   Arrow EP Explains Why Prometheus Keeps Getting So Personal (Date: 10 May 2017) During an interview last week, Arrow showrunner Wendy Mericle explained why they felt it was time for a villain who challenged Oliver on a personal, human level for the first time since Deathstroke in season 2. “It's very personal this year, and we wanted to do that for a number of reasons,” Mericle said. “WE've done a different villain this year. It's not that it's easy, but using violence — which Chase and Oliver still do throughout the season — is sort of the go-to. What's been interesting to see this year is to see that but the underpinnings of it being so psychological and so manipulative and so built on the underpinnings of what Chase knows about Oliver and who he is. This was the perfect storm — a great way to change up the villain and to get inside of Oliver's head in a season that we needed to. We needed him to be reflective and talking and looking back at his past, and Chase was the perfect spark to light that fire.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/05/11/arrow-prometheus-robert-queen/   Arrow Season 6 To Explore the Conflicts Between Being Mayor and Being Green Arrow (Date: 10 May 2017) During a recent interview, showrunner Wendy Mericle told ComicBook.com that the man in the hood will still be spending his days at City Hall come 2016. Mericle said, “What's going to be a central question for season 6 is how can he do both? We've played with that in the past in different ways before, but I think that the success of what he's done in the mayor's office and his ability to have impact is going to raise those stakes to a different level and hopefully create some great stories.” Link:http://comicbook.com/2017/05/11/arrow-season-6-oliver-mayor/   Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on Arrow, Once, Chicago Fire, Elementary, Blindspot, The Flash, NCIS and More! (Date: 09 May 2017) Black Siren is a badass villain. What can we expect? —You can expect… badass villainy. “She comes back as part of Chase's plan,” says co-showrunner Wendy Mericle. ” Chase knows exactly what he's doing, and he understands how unsettling seeing somebody that looks like Laurel Lance is going to be for the rest of the team,” her “dad” Quentin included. “And from a writing perspective, it's just fun storytelling. Katie Cassidy does an amazing job as Black Siren, and seeing her take on Dinah, or her take on Lance, is going to be fun.”                                   This will be the first Arrow season finale that does not take place in Starling City. Can we expect the same kind of intense fights, or will this be more of an emotional showdown? —“Both,” answers Wendy Mericle. “One of the fun parts of having Prometheus and Oliver going toe-to-toe this season has been they're both really great fighters, but by the same token, Prometheus is a tremendous psychological villain and he's going to hit Oliver right where it hurts. That's going to be a double whammy for him in the finale.” Link:http://tvline.com/2017/05/09/arrow-season-5-spoilers-black-siren-returns/   GENERAL DC TV NEWS Supergirl EP Teases General Zod's Arrival, Comic-Inspired Appearance (Date: 06 May 2017) The “how” and “when” of General Zod's arrival on Supergirl remains a mystery, but thanks to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, at least we know what the legendary DC Comics villain will be wearing. He says that Supergirl‘s Zod (played by Smallville actor Mark Gibbon) will be sporting “a little bit of that Nazi uniform look you'd see in the comics in the '60s. Visually, he has a different look from the mechanical armor that Man of Steel did, or the real spacey clothes Richard Donner's version had. Link:http://tvline.com/2017/05/06/supergirl-general-zod-spoilers-new-season-2-interview/   The Flash boss on how everyone will react to that Savitar reveal (Date: 08 May 2017) As revealed during last week's episode of The Flash, Savitar is actually a future version of the Scarlet Speedster, a heavily scarred Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) hellbent on killing Iris (Candice Patton) for as-yet-unknown reasons. Suffice it to say, Team Flash will certainly be shocked by this turn of events during Tuesday's episode. “What's interesting about people's reactions — we certainly wrote it, but just the way the cast performs it — is it's one thing to have seen that giant metal suit and hear that there is a version of Barry inside of it,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells EW. “It's quite another thing when you actually come face-to-face with what's inside.” Plus, watch a trailer for the final episodes of season 3. Link:http://ew.com/tv/2017/05/08/flash-savitar-barry-video/   Matt's Inside Line: Scoop on Arrow, Once, Chicago Fire, Elementary, Blindspot, The Flash, NCIS and More! (Date: 09 May 2017) Will we ever see Supergirl‘s Mon-El in a super suit? — T'would be nice to see the boy do his thing not in street clothes, and ideally by the Season 2 finale. When we delivered your Q to showrunner Andrew Kreisberg, he answered, “I can't say right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if one day you got to see that.” Link:http://tvline.com/2017/05/09/arrow-season-5-spoilers-black-siren-returns/   NEXT EPISODE   Promo for Next Week's: Episode - “Missing” (Date: 11 May 2017) Article:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-missing-trailer/   Episode:   “Missing” [Season 5 Episode 22] Air Date:           Wednesday, May 17, 2017 Summary:         Black Siren returns to give Chase help; Felicity plans a birthday party for Oliver; Lance is angry with Rene for missing the custody hearing about his daughter. With that comes the return of Dolph Lundgren, hence why the former playboy has decided to suit up here. This isn't the first time we've seen "The Hood" in flashbacks, but it is the closest Oliver has come to being the Green Arrow in the show's flashbacks. From here, it seems as if we should now expect to see his journey back to Star City begin as it looks like the vigilante is going to take the gangster down. Adrian Chase Doesn't mind a vigilante investigating a crime scene, possibly contaminating evidence CURRENT EPISODE DC EASTER EGGS & POP CULTURE REFERENCES   Season 5 Episode 6  “So It Begins” (Date: 10 Nov 2016) Article: http://comicbook.com/2016/11/10/arrow-easter-eggs-and-other-things-you-might-have-missed-in-so-i   So It Begins: As Felicity notes in the episode, the title (and also that little message in fire left for Oliver a la the Daredevil movie) is a line from Babylon 5. Specifically, it was spoken by Kosh in the episode "Chrysalis," and became an oft-repeated/referenced quote from the series. Michelle's addition: Kosh is the Vorlon Empire's Ambassador to Babylon 5. The line is said to Sinclair and refers to Delenn starting her transformation.   Aparo & Puckett: Tobias Church's stolen cell phone turned up in a warehouse on Aparo and Puckett -- two streets named after veteran DC Comics creators Jim Aparo and Kelley Puckett. Puckett is a writer best known for his work on the Batman family of titles; Among his most notable works are the co-creations of the Cassandra Cain Batgirl and Connor Hawke, the son of Oliver Queen. Aparo is one of the most recognizable Batman artists of his era; his last ongoing series assignment before he passed away was Green Arrow #81-100 in the '90s, during which time he and Puckett introduced Connor Hawke. Ishmael Gregor - David Meunier, known to TV fans for his role on FX's Justified, joined the cast of Arrow tonight as Ishmael Gregor. Gregor in the comics is a character who's been known to make a physical transformation into a demon, complete with magical powers, but considering remarks by the showrunners about a more grounded Season Five, it seems likely that his primary role will be as a human running the Russian mob. Worth mentioning - Konstantin Kovar appeared onscreen for the first time in this week's episode, played by Hollywood action legend Dolph Lundgren. Channel 52 makes yet another appearance. Callbacks to early seasons include Oliver's tennis ball-training session, the appearance of The List, and all those names on it. Earlier this year I was speaking with [showrunner] Wendy Mericle, and I was like, ‘Look, there's two things that we're no longer allowed to write about Oliver: We're no longer allowed to call him a billionaire, because … he lost his family fortune. And we're currently not allowed to say ‘playboy' — he's dated one woman since Season 2, and he had a fling with Isabel Rochev. That's it.' I really think he's just a simple sort of guy that has got caught up in deeper situations. There's more to him than meets the eye.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-theres-more-to-anatoly-knyazev-than-meets-the-eye-says-nykl/   Arrow: Amell calls Dolph Lundgren's character a ‘worthy adversary' (Date: 09 Nov 2016) On the way Dolph works on set, Stephen Amell said, “He's very thoughtful and contemplates his lines and he has been great so far, but it's a real change of pace. I do think it would have been a missed opportunity in the last year of these flashbacks to not have a really worthy adversary. We found that in Dolph, which is why he'll be around for a while. It's been a blast to work with him. It's been awesome.” Link:http://www.cbr.com/arrow-amell-calls-dolph-ludgrens-character-a-worthy-adversary/ Arrow's Josh Segarra reveals what excites him about playing Vigilante (Date: 09 Nov 2016) Next week's episode of Arrow, titled "Vigilante," will center on the character of Star City District Attorney Adrian Chase (played by actor Josh Segarra), and introduce his costumed alter ego, Vigilante. He told ComicBook.com during the Arrow 100th episode party that they were working hard not to disappoint anybody who read the comics and had expectations for the character. "The biggest question that I have for myself as an actor is 'why does this person become the person that they are?'" Segarra said. "So what's going to be hard is that in the middle of the season I get to introduce Vigilante. So now I'm getting to tell that backstory and we get to tell the biggest pieces and get to show him becoming who he is before episode 7." Stephen Amell, EP Marc Guggenheim discuss (Date: 10 Nov 2016) The article examines why season 5 could be a natural ending, but Marc Guggenheim says, “No, I think we tend to look at season 5 as the end of a particular chapter.” Arrow doesn't seem to be in any danger of cancellation at present; while ratings are down from last season, it remains one of The CW's four most-watched programs. The show's longevity seems to surprise even the producers. The flashback storyline was always “a five-year deal,” says Guggenheim, and they intend to stick with that plan. “The show just turned out to be more successful than we anticipated.”  Also Stephen Amell discusses why season 4 disappointed him at times and how he likes the renewed focus of season 5. In an interview with ComicBook.com she said, “The thing is, I can't kill him. If I kill him in 1942 or 1952, all of those years that he was supposed to do everything would be messed up; it's a big change to history. So I wouldn't be able to even kill him. I think she's struggling, now that she's captain, with this higher sense of purpose. It's not just all about her; she has to consider other people. You see what happens with Barry Allen when he changed the timeline. She's coming around and being like ‘I have to accept this,' but I still think there's something in her that is always going to want to change it and I don't know, if she had the opportunity, if she would pass it up. I think it's still a big area of conflict for her. And of course she misses her sister.” Link:http://comicbook.com/dc/2016/11/04/legends-of-tomorrows-caity-lotz-even-if-she-wants-to-sara-cant-b/    The responsibilities of time travelers when it comes to slavery (Date: 06 Nov 2016) The episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow entitled Abominations had two things in mind when picking the title. Confederate zombies and slavery. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim talks about the responsibility of time travelers when it comes to the question of slavery and how the CW's time-traveling show differs from others on the air. Legends - Snart will be back in the midseason finale, eventually aligning with Reverse-Flash, Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn to form the Legion of Doom. In the comics, Ted is one of three people who have gone by the name of Blue Beetle. A heroic legacy that started in 1940, Kord's version of the Blue Beetle was the most Green Arrow-like: an inventor and industrialist who didn't have any special powers but who did have a lot of tech, mostly Beetle-themed. It's rumored that he was supposed to be the character who eventually evolved into Ray Palmer, but DC had other plans for the character — widely believed to be the forthcoming Booster Gold movie. Tech Village - This not-quite-a-Best-Buy is the name of the store where Felicity Smoak worked at the beginning Arrow's third season. This may be the first time it's had an in-story reference in at least a full season that wasn't just a brief callback to "Felicity worked there once." It is also, due to Ray Palmer's attempts to recruit Felicity to work for him, a subsidiary of Palmer Tech. Palmer Tech - Of course, this is the company formerly owned by Ray Palmer, and then Felicity Smoak. Before that, it was Oliver's company, which he signed over to Ravager as part of Deathstroke's attack on Oliver and the city. It's unclear who owns it now — maybe it's just whichever stockholder has a plurality and nobody exciting at all — but after four years of the company being one of the most regularly-used sets on the show, this is the first time we've gone back this year. Amertek - Church took RPGs from Amertek? We weren't going to mention Amertek necessarily, since we just talked about it a couple of episodes ago, but it's definitely worth noting that in the comics, the company's most notorious weapon is a modified RPG colloquially called a Toastmaster, which was designed by John Henry Irons during his time working for Ametek. Cell 1138 - John's cell number is a nod to THX 1138, George Lucas's directorial debut. It's arguably better known among the average moviegoer for giving the first bit of its name to THX, Lucas's revolutionary sound system, but the film itself remains one of Lucas's best-reviewed works and a reminder that he did great work outside of just Star Wars and Indiana Jones. It's worth noting that at one point in the film, the title character THX and one of his fellow prisoners (SEN 5241) stage a jail break from a facility where most of the other inmates have no desire to leave — kind of like Diggle had no desire to leave at the start of the episode. Molecular Destabilizer - That spray, used to immediately and dramatically destabilize the molecules in anything it's sprayed on (how does it stay in the bottle?), feels like a nod to the universal solvent in the first arc of All-Star Squadron. In that story, a solvent designed by villain Dr. Zodiak was used to dissolve everything from walls to guns, and made the gimmick weapons used by a number of Justice Society of America members pretty useless. Callback - This one is kind of an odd mention, but it's interesting to note that Friedkin's comments to Oliver in jail -- "do you think you scare me more than him?" -- are echoed in the present day almost immediately by the man being interrogated by Adrian Chase. ARROW NEWS:   Marc Guggenheim reveals the title of Arrow's 100th episode (Date: 23 Oct 2016) While Arrow takes its hundredth episode to celebrate the four-plus seasons that have come before, it also has to balance the needs of a four-show crossover that will bring Supergirl into The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Guggenheim said, "Arrow episode 508 is called 'Invasion!' with the exclamation point. And Legends of Tomorrow 207 is going to be 'Invasion!'. I'll leave it up to you to guess what The Flash is called." Link:http://comicbook.com/2016/10/23/marc-guggenheim-reveals-the-title-of-arrows-100th-episode/   Is Tommy Merlyn really Prometheus? (Date:23 Oct 2016) The article discusses the possibility that Tommy Merlyn could be Prometheus. Tommy could be alive due to Flashpoint or Malcolm using the Lazarus pit. Since producers like Marc Guggenheim has said “Oliver bears a measure of responsibility for the creation of Prometheus,” longtime viewers are convinced the villain is more so connected to Oliver as a person than as a vigilante. "Diggle can't miss anything he's never had and 'Flashpoint' changes history -- it changes his history directly -- so he never can really miss Baby Sara anymore, because he never had her, but he is concerned about Barry. Barry's actions were reckless, and with all that power, being reckless -- to someone as disciplined as Diggle -- comes as a shock." "One of the producers asked me, 'Do you think this is too on the nose?' I was like, 'No, becuase why are we doing this show if we're not going to have fun with something like that?'" His origin was pretty straight forward. His role as a D.A. put him on someone's hit list and his family got killed because of it. By the second issue of the series, Chase was already questioning his choice of taking the law into his own hands. The character was a unique look into the side of vigilantism that doesn't normally get addressed in comics. We see the physical and legal ramifications and even some of the aspects of getting lost in the battle.   Link:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/10/26/comic-book-history-vigilante/   Arrow: Is Adrian Chase the Vigilante already? Actor Jose Segarra weighs in (Date: 26 Oct 2016) In the season 5 premiere of Arrow, Felicity Smoak showed Oliver Queen an image of somebody wearing ski goggles. Supposedly a police artist's sketch of an anonymous vigilante working in Star City, Team Arrow haven't mentioned him again since -- although longtime comic book readers recognized him. The image was that of Adrian Chase -- better known as Vigilante. So if tonight is Vigilante's genesis, what's the deal with that police sketch? We asked Josh Segarra, who plays Chase, to clarify. "That's what I think is going to be interesting, is what parts of the comic are we going to get to put on the show?" He responded when ComicBook.com asked him about the police sketch. "I know the answer to that but the audience don't. But that's what been great is that we're trying to keep it as much as we can in that world, but also keep it exciting because I don't want any plot twists to be a thing where people are expecting something and don't get them.So I'm hoping that we get the right pieces along the way. So now I'm getting to tell that backstory and we get to tell the biggest pieces and get to show him becoming who he is before episode 7." In this case, it was really simple. I went to the writers' room, this was a pitch on the table, I shot an email off to [DC Comics CCO] Geoff Johns, I got a response back, and Deadshot's in the episode.” Link:https://www.cinemablend.com/television/1568149/how-arrows-surprise-suicide-squad-cameo-came-to-be People's Choice awards (Date: xx month year) Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends are on the list for best Sci-Fi/Fantasy show; Stephen Amell is up for Sci-Fi/Fantasy actor and social media star.
