Listen in as we discuss the difference between tattling and telling and how to deal with other kids when adults aren't around!
Welcome back to the kitchen table. It's easy to step in when our kids tattle, ready to fix the problem and make things right. But what if our urge to solve everything is keeping them from learning a valuable skill—resolving conflict on their own? Bethany used to jump in at the first sign of tattling, sorting out every disagreement between her kids. Instead, she began teaching them a biblical approach to conflict resolution, inspired by Matthew 18:15-17. Now, when her kids come running to tattle, Bethany gently asks, “Have you talked to them about it?” She encourages them to address the person directly and seek a solution together before involving her. This simple shift has made a big impact and follows God's call to be peacemakers. By stepping back, Bethany is helping her kids develop the skills they need to navigate disagreements with patience and love. In today's episode, I'm sharing some of the foundational conflict resolution techniques and strategies I've used in my troop, learned in my educational background specializing in conflict resolution, and as the former mediator for my local council. Children in the second plane of development (ages 6-12, but especially ages 6-9!) are navigating the rules of society, and beginning to understand their actions can create change. A huge part of this work includes the tattle tale phase, during which children seem to come to parents and teachers with a never-ending stream of complaints about the words and actions of others around them. It can be extremely hard to find the patience, empathy, and the right words to handle all of the tattling! In this episode, Megan and Laura share their opinions on the reason this phase is so important, and how they have navigated it in their careers as Lower Elementary teachers. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/montessorimomsinthewild/support

A little girl learns to not tattle all the time.
Do you have a tattle tale? If so, today's episode is for you. Let me paint a picture. Three-and-a-half-year-old Sam is a sweet kid, but he's in the habit of tattling on his older brother Eric, who is just six years old. Whenever Eric does something that Sam thinks isn't nice or fair, he runs to his parents and tells on him. For example, if Eric takes one of Sam's toys or accidentally drops something, Sam runs to his parents and says, Eric did it.Tattling happens after a child has stopped managing problems in physical ways like hitting or biting, but he or she hasn't yet developed a more sophisticated way of solving things.Children who tattle have enough social and emotional skills to stop the hitting, but not enough to solve problems without some help.A toddler may tattle to exert their power and see if they can get a rise out of you.Create a space or a moment between your child's behavior and your response to it. In other words, just pause for a moment before saying a word. Ready to combat tattletales? Help your child feel seen. When they feel seen, their need to tattletale gradually diminishes. You can empower your child by equipping them with the tools to manage problems on their own. With time, tattletales will fizzle out. But in the meantime, also remember the power of exclusive time or special time or magic time, whatever you wanna call it, for just 10 minutes a day. Let your child choose what they want to do and then the two of you do that together. Playing with your toddler, just the two of you for 10 minutes a day is a research-based way to ease messy toddler behaviors.Learn the proven strategies to help you deal with your toddler in a way that lets you be the best parent you can be. I've been having conversations with parents about helping their children navigate social situations. In these conversations I recognized a pattern. Children were going to the adult in charge and not getting clear direction. Often, children's call for help is seen as tattling. In today's episode I am sharing information on how to look at tattling from a new angle. We can see tattling as an annoyance or as an opportunity to teach new skills. I talk about three forms of tattling and how to respond to bring clarity and foster encouragement. In this week's episode, Adam and Tanner try to work through the proper way to handle apostasy - both what we see in person and online. They break down the different reasons and motivations for why we respond the way we do, admit to quite a few of their own errors in judgment and judging, and try to come up with an alternative solution that isn't milquetoast but also isn't so difficult to latch onto.

Every hero STARTS as a CHILD, and every Child can CHOOSE to become a Hero... Just like THIS one! It was a Tuesday morning, and Mrs. Rhinehart's class was going on a field trip to an outdoor art festival that was in town for a few days. Artwork from people all over the city was on display for everyone to see. One of the boys thought that no one was looking except his friends when he decided it would be funny to sign his name on one of the paintings. But Erica was seeing and hearing and fortunately was able to tell Mrs. Rhinehart before the boy could actually do it, although her timing was close. Another ten seconds and the painting would have been ruined. One of the boys called Erica a tattle-tale, and while it's true that Mrs. Rhinehart discourages tattling in her class, she now had a good example to HELP them understand the difference between tattling and reporting. Tattling is when you tell on someone about something that is not really your business just to see them get in trouble. Reporting is when you tell on someone for actions that truly need to be stopped by someone in authority. And this act of vandalism definitely needed to be stopped! Vandalism is destroying or changing, without the owner's permission, anything that doesn't belong to you. Vandalism is a crime, and reporting vandalism is not only everyone's business, but everyone's responsibility, too. Erica knew that, and while the other boy was up to no good, Erica was a HERO that day, because she saved the certain destruction of a beautiful painting. That's what I know about the beginning of This Hero, and I know that YOU Can Be a Hero TOO! Dear Parents, After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. Research has shown the TCN Method™ to be the single most effective school based Violence and Bully Prevention Intervention of its entire genre. We have hundreds of testimonials from educators describing the results they have gotten, and you can view many of these at http://www.thecharacternetwork.org/Testimonials (www.TheCharacterNetwork.org/Testimonials) This program, The Beginning of a Famous Hero™ is used in conjunction with a companion program called Bully Alert!™ in schools played over the intercom during morning announcements twice or more each school week, and backed up by a common culture which reinforces the principles taught, at every turn, and incorporates the phrases of the academic language during any teachable moment. These two sets of stories work together to convey a common academic language which says, “A bully is a person who hurts others on purpose (even if it's just hurting their feelings) but a HERO is a person who HELPS others. So CHOOSE to be a HERO by HELPING instead of a bully by hurting.” They also promote the concept of POSITIVE PERSONAL VISION, helping...

On this week's episode, Suzanne Downing and John Quick, with a bit of help from Scott, discuss the upcoming AO2021-91 mask mandate, including some amendments that empower the people to tattletale. YIKES, what could go wrong?! All that and more!
There is a clear difference between tattling and being a look out, but AJ isn't uncomfortable with the tattling opportunity he's advising a friend on. How many bail outs, how many times would you have to catch your coworker in a lie about their sick days before you'd rat on them? McCall has kept the receipts. That was easy, but being a neighborhood look out is a little more questionable for the Debate At 8.
How many emails does the average person use in their lifetime?! How great would it be to have your own private jet or private island? But what if you just had those and not the money? The AJ & McCall Show believes in towel equality. Tattling is bad and being a look out is good, yet AJ is WAY more comfortable with the tattling scenario in his life. Also, watch out because McCall has the dirt for the Debate At 8. If you're near a historic landmark or a pool maybe keep your eyes on the road?

Who are the 6% of people still picking up unknown numbers? The winter time seems like a good time to know the answer to 'How sturdy are you?' AJ passed that up but wonders if he needs more surveillance in his house for the Debate At 8. How many people steal food from their coworkers?!

After getting cut off by a vehicle that had "How's my driving?" number on the back of it, AJ took the high road and didn't tattle. Hi world and welcome back to Half-Priced Opinions! 2020's been getting crazier and crazier hasn't it? Yes, and that's why I am sharing my apologies again for the late upload. In this episode I decided to tell some quite random childhood scenarios. Things such as sneaking hot chocolate packets and protein bars into my brother and I's rooms'. Or even knocking bleach over at the bottom of the stairs at our childhood home. Buy(s) of the Week: My MOON LAMP! It's so cute, literally. When I was a teacher, I was accustomed to telling my students no. No talking, no running, no fighting. There was also a lot of tattling in my class (and we’ll get back to that in a moment). There was a little boy named Mark, and one day, this tiny boy no more than 6 or 7 said something that permanently altered the course of my teaching style, my parenting approach, and my life. He said, I feel like she’s always mad at us! And boy oh boy, I felt horrible! I had to level with the fact that I was not making my students, my precious stewardship, feel welcome in class. (And by the way, make this your mantra: kids are kids are kids are kids. There’s nothing wrong with your children, and there’s nothing wrong with you.) They could’ve been reading on a ninth-grade level, but I realized that if they were to succeed in life, they needed to feel good in my classroom. All academic successes are secondary to raising children who know how to be good and kind. I made it my goal to change my mindset and my attitudes and look as hard as I could for good things the children were doing. As I praised them for good effort and kind behavior, they were more kind to each other, and I felt better too! Now, back to tattling. Humans — and children in particular — are sensitive to perceived inequities. When they don’t think it’s fair that another person gets to misbehave or not be on task, they’ll call them out for it. Tattling is a natural occurrence, but I took that energy and helped my students channel it into more wholesome outputs with the Tattlebox, a means for kids to affirm and give love to their peers for praiseworthy actions. I have a suspicion this could help many of you in your homes! Subscribe on Apple! Subscribe on Android! Join my FREE parenting bootcamp! Let’s Connect! A little foolishness can do a lot of damage - follow the latest news cycle or spend some time on social media to see that demonstrated on a political, social and even a personal level. The difference between a wise person and a fool can be a matter of small proportion. But a little wisdom also goes a long way. So the Preacher warns against the danger of even a little folly, and urges us to use wisdom in practical everyday living.
