Time rules our lives. We wake, eat, work, and sleep on the clock. Our days unfold in a standardized symphony of alarm clocks, school buzzers, and meeting timers. Meanwhile, global positioning satellites measure time in millionths of seconds, and financial trades circle the planet at the speed of light. Time-keeping is among the greatest accomplishments of the human species – but somewhere along the way, we made a fundamental miscalculation: we began to mistake our clocks for time itself. Deep Time is a new series all about the natural ecologies of time from To The Best Of Our Knowledge and theCenter for Humans and Nature — with support from the Kalliopeia Foundation. In Deep Time, TTBOOK will explore biological time, geological time, cosmic time, ancestral time. We'll imagine time as a spiral, a loop, and also as an eternal present – as we learn to live beyond the clock. Learn more about the series at ttbook.org/deeptime

Join contributors to the special edition of Logic Magazine, Beacons, for a discussion on Black freedom and technology. What would it mean to take the Black internet seriously? How do we call in Black studies scholars to imagining technologies of black freedoms in addition to grappling with the racial regimes wrought by artificial intelligence and machine learning models? The dominant approach to mis/disinformation is policing, reporting and suspending individual users but what if we oriented towards abolition and affirming black joy? What can the black radical tradition offer in addressing new modes of surveillance and social control that begin from black indigineity instead of reinscribing the nation state? Contributors to special edition of Logic Magazine, in partnership with We Be Imagining, Beacons: Andre Brock and SA Smythe will be in conversation with Zoé Samudzi. Moderated by J. Today's guest hosts are Edwith Theogene and Charlotte Hancock, Organizing Director and Communications Director for Generation Progress. During today's show they discuss the Equality Act, a key piece of civil rights legislation currently being considered by the Senate that would implement uniform legal protections for people regardless of gender and/or sexual orientation. These protections are critical for LGBTQ+ people in this country, whose protected status varies greatly from state to state and city to city. The Equality Act has already been passed twice by the House of Representatives. The first time it was passed, in 2019, then-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to take it up for a vote in the Senate—but now, with a different party in control, the Equality Act is moving forward. Last week, it received its first Senate hearing. But the bill is still facing significant backlash that jeopardizes its chances of ultimately becoming law. To talk with Edwith and Charlotte more about the Equality Act and what it would mean for LGBTQ+ Americans, they’re joined by Sharita Gruberg, the vice president of the LGBTQ+ project at the Center for American Progress, and Nadine Smith, the executive director of Equality Florida. Generation Progress' website is GenProgress.org and their Twitter handle is @GenProgress. Edwith Theogene's Twitter handle is @WhoIsEdwith and Charlotte Hancock's handle is @CharlatAnne. Sharita Gruberg's Twitter handle is @SharitaGruberg and the handle for the LGBTQ Research and Communications Project at theCenter for American Progress is @LGBTQProgress.Nadine Smith's Twitter handle is @1NadineSmith and the handle for Equality Florida is @equalityfl.

Today’s episode is all about how you can use wellness in the workplace to boost productivity. But, even if you are not a manager or leader at work, I want you to listen to this because 1) you might have a leader in your life who needs to hear this message. And 2) because we are all leaders, whether it’s leading our families or leading committees at our kids’ schools or participating as volunteers at church or other community organizations. Imagine this… You’re trying to lead a team. You have products to develop, projects to deliver, and budgets to hit. But, you have a huge problem. Energy is low and your team is not performing. Their communication is in the dumps, and they are competing against each other when they should be collaborating. They are making outrageous commitments that, despite working long hours, will ultimately disappoint the client. Morale is low, and there’s no passion for the work they are doing. Your head is pounding from beating it against your desk in frustration. How will you ever get your team back on track? If your team’s communication is coming up short… if they are missing deadlines, lacking energy and their work isn’t in sync like a Rockettes kick line, it’s time to try something unconventional. You’re not going to see overnight changes, but if you have the patience to stick with me, you will see a transformation in the culture where you work. How are you going to do it? You’re going to power up the energy, engagement and enthusiasm with the ultimate team-building activity—training together for an endurance event. Tune in to this episode where I 1) explain why this works 2) tell you why you should care about workplace fitness and 3) go over 5 questions to ask yourself to know if you should be doing more to build relationships and 4) share some tips for getting started.
