Mary Moore is currently playing Debbie in the official Take That musical Greatest Days which is touring the UK and Ireland. Featuring the music of Take That and a book by Tim Firth, Greatest Days follows a group of five best friends in the 1990's who are obsessed with their favourite boy band. The girls reunite more than 20 years later with a plan to see their heartthrobs one last time in what could be the Greatest Days of their lives. Last summer Mary starred as Jan in the West End revival of Grease (Dominion Theatre). Her credits also include No Limits (Turbine Theatre) and Bring It On (Southwark Playhouse). They played Amy March in  Little Women (Park Theatre) and Eva Gottel in The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Southwark Playhouse). On screen Mary has appeared in Doctors, as well as the live filmings of Little Women and The Sorcerer's Apprenctice.  Greatest Days opens at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 6th May and tours the UK and Ireland through to November 2023, with further dates to be announced. Movie: Kinky BootsThe True Story Behind the 2005 Movie & 2013 Broadway Musical (and the 2019 movie!)The “Month of Musicals” concludes with Kinky Boots, the true story of a footwear company in Earls Barton, North Hamptonshire, UK--WJ Brooks. The factory was in Steve Pateman's family for decades when in the 1990s, they started losing money to the cheaper, faster competition. Pateman appeared on BBC's Trouble at the Top documentary showing how his company switched to creating boots for transvestites who needed more security when they stood in high heels. The collection expanded to “kink wear,” dubbed “Kinky Boots” by the BBC producers, and the story took off. In 2005, director Julian Jarrold and writers Geoff Deane and Tim Firth brought the story to life (unfortunately, the factory had to close in 2000.) Joel Edgerton plays Charlie Price (the Steve Patemen substitute), and Chiwetel Ejiofor's Lola is an amalgam of several drag queens that were customers of WJ Brooks's “Divine, Provider, and Lady Provider” brands. The film has an amazing soundtrack, and Ejiofor was nominated for a Golden Globe. Harvey Fierstein wrote the book for the musical with legendary talent Cyndi Lauper creating the music and lyrics before its debut in Chicago in 2013. The production would go on to be a smash Broadway hit, earning six Tony Awards and with productions around the world. During the ceremony, Carnival Luminosa's senior leadership team and the classification society completed all necessary registration processes, and Deck Cadet Mark Casson, a Bahamian citizen from Freeport, raised the new Bahamian flag.When the ship departs for Dubai, she will be flying the Bahamian flag to designate the new ship registry. By crossing this internationally recognised calendar boundary, the ship skipped a full day of the week – turning Wednesday into Friday for all on boardFollowing Carnival Splendor's departure from Seattle on Sept. 6, after the ship's successful deployment as part of Carnival's biggest-ever Alaska season, guests on board have enjoyed an unforgettable opportunity exploring the natural beauty of this South Pacific cruise. Carnival Splendor made several stops across Hawaii, visiting Honolulu, Kona, Hilo and Maui. In November, Carnival Luminosa will complete the cruise line's two-ship deployment to Australia with sailings from Brisbane.Kangaroo Island's emotional reunion with Princess Cruises Kangaroo Island this week welcome its first cruise ship in more than two and a half years, sharing a special connection with both the valuable sector of the visitor economy and the visiting cruise line.Princess Cruises was the first cruise line to visit the island following the devastating bushfires in January 2020, with a special visit by the Sun Princess “in a show of support for the local community”.Many guests of that voyage made donations to South Australia's bushfire relief and Princess Cruises directed revenue from the day's shore excursions to the state's bushfire appeal. My guest today is Tim Firth.   Tim is one of Sydney's most in-demand drummers. He has performed with some of Australia's finest jazz musicians including Emma Pask, James Muller, Mike Nock, James Morrison and has toured extensively throughout Australia, Europe, Asia and Cuba.   Tim completed two Bachelor of Music degrees at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and The University of New South Wales.    Tim is known for his musical intuition and highly interactive style, priding himself on giving the music and the band what they need at all times, in any musical setting.   But it's not just jazz. Tim's a metal head! Tim Firth is the man behind the show that captured the nation’s heart: Calendar Girls, the true story about a Women’s Institute who produced a naked calendar. It’s been a film, a play, and is now a musical. He’s also responsible for the hugely successful film Kinky Boots, as well as multi-award winning TV shows, films and more musicals including Neville’s Island, The Flint Street Nativity, Preston Front, and most recently The Band, a collaboration with his long-time friend Gary Barlow and Take That. But surprisingly there are no songs from musical theatre in Tim’s choices for Private Passions. Instead he shares with Michael Berkeley his love of Baroque, with music from Bach and from Albinoni (first heard on his honeymoon), and he chooses music by Delius and by Copland that resonates with the folk music he loved as a child. John Coltrane-John Coltrane departed this mortal plane more than fifty years ago; today he remains among us, more alive than ever. His sound continues to grab the ears of an ever-widening circle of fans. His legend is stone solid: planted firmly in our culture as that of any 20th century musical giant. His saxophone sound—brooding, searching, dark—is still one of the most recognizable in modern jazz. His influence stretches over styles and genres, and transcends cultural boundaries. The modern ideal of music serving a deeply spiritual, connective purpose? A defining facet of John Coltrane. Eddie Palmieri-Known as one of the finest pianists of the past 60 years, Eddie Palmieri is a bandleader, arranger and composer of salsa and Latin jazz. Conrad Herwig-New York-based jazz trombonist Conrad Herwig is considered one of the world’s complete jazz musicians, atop both the performing and jazz educational fields with an abundance of composer and arranger credits, as well. To date, he has released 20 recordings as a leader in addition to contributing to nearly 200 other recording sessions with some of the most notable artists in jazz. He has performed and recorded with Miles Davis, Joe Henderson, Eddie Palmieri, Tito Puente, Frank Sinatra, Joe Lovano and Tom Harrell, among many others. The Latin Side of John Coltrane-John Coltrane's music has been interpreted many ways since his death in 1967 but rarely in a Latin jazz setting. Trombonist Conrad Herwig, in putting together this project, wisely avoided using any other tenor or soprano saxophonists, instead gathering together several trumpeters, either Ronnie Cuber or Gary Smulyan on baritone, flutist Dave Valentin and a crack Latin rhythm section. By varying the instrumentation and personnel on each selection, Herwig has succeeded in continually casting Coltrane's music in a new light. The opening and closing versions of "Blessing" have Milton Cardona vocalizing a brief prayer. All of the other music (with the exception of Mongo Santamaria's "Afro Blue") are 'Trane compositions. Herwig is well showcased, as is trumpeter Brian Lynch and most of the sidemen. The results are quite fresh, often infectious and unpredictable. A fine tribute to the flexibility of John Coltrane's 1960-64 music. Iridium NY-The Iridium Jazz Club is a jazz club located on Broadway in New York City. The club hosts weekly performances by John Colianni, and also featured weekly performances by Les Paul for nearly fifteen years. FEZ UNDER TIME CAFE: 1992 - 2005-The Fez under Time Cafe, known as the Fez, was a nightclub and restaurant on Lafayette Street and Great Jones Street in New York City's NoHo District. The club closed in February 2005. It hosted numerous musicians and comedians, including Rufus Wainwright, Stella, Richard Barone, Carly Simon and Jeff Buckley. Mingus Big Band-The Mingus Big Band celebrates the music of composer/bassist Charles Mingus, who died in 1979. Under the artistic direction of Sue Mingus, this 14-piece band performed Thursday MBB nights from 1991 to 2004 at Fez under Time Cafe in New York City. It maintained weekly residencies in the city from May 2004 until October 2008, when it began “Mingus Mondays” at Jazz Standard where it alternates with the Mingus Orchestra and Mingus Dynasty. Bishop Nathaniel Townsley-Listen on Spotify Gospel Jubilee-Facebook page Nathaniel Townsley Jr.-Discogs Jimmy “Preacher” Robins- Jimmy Robins In terms of gruff intensity and roaring power few singers could match Jimmy Robbins. In my view he never made a bad record although his career was so fragmented - he recorded for several labels and under a couple of names - he's never really gotten either the visibility or success his wonderful voice deserved. Robins may just have been the best "underground" artist of them all and fully warranted his "Preacher" tag. In addition he wrote most of the songs he recorded and was a fine keyboard player, specialising in the Hammond B3 organ. Robins Nest Harlem-Photo Sugar Shack Harlem-”It is sadly the end of an era. After months of speculation The Sugar Shack has closed it’s doors for good. The site of impromptu gatherings, first dates, comedy shows, poetry readings and down and dirty dancing has gone from being The Sugar Shack to Striver’s Cafe and back to The Sugar Shack. In the late ’90s and early ’00 (when it was selected the Village Voice Best of 2000) you could drop into the Shack any night of the week and find something fun going on inside behind the velvet curtain. Whether it was fight night, a live band or a dj spinning the turntables, neighborhood patrons will certainly miss the good memories created at The Sugar Shack over the years. Londell’s Harlem-”Located on the threshold of Striver's Row, a historical section of Harlem, Londel's is rich in cuisine, entertainment, and social life. Known to original patrons as ''Striver's Row'', Londel's has expanded steadily and has maintained its traditional flavor in Southern, Creole, and American Comfort Cuisine.” Showman’s-”This soulful haunt of Harlem's old guard has been home to the greats (e.g. Sara Vaughan, Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Pearl Bailey) since 1942, having moved to its current location in August,1998. A Hammond B-3 organ graces the stage, and is put to good use by Danny Mixon, Seleno Clarke, Nathan Lucas and Preacher Robins among others. Hammond Organ-”The Hammond organ is an electric organ, invented by Laurens Hammond and John M. Hanert and first manufactured in 1935. Various models have been produced, most of which use sliding drawbars to specify a variety of sounds. Until 1975, Hammond organs generated sound by creating an electric current from rotating a metal tonewheel near an electromagnetic pickup, and then strengthening the signal with an amplifier so it can drive a speaker cabinet. Around two million Hammond organs have been manufactured. The organ is commonly used with, and associated with, the Leslie speaker.” Jack McDuff- Eugene McDuff (September 17, 1926 – January 23, 2001), known professionally as "Brother" Jack McDuff or "Captain" Jack McDuff, was an American jazz organist and organ trio bandleader who was most prominent during the hard bop and soul jazz era of the 1960s, often performing with an organ trio. He is also credited with giving guitarist George Benson his first break. Stanley Turrentine- Stanley William Turrentine (April 5, 1934 – September 12, 2000) was an American jazz tenor saxophonist. He began his career playing R&B for Earl Bostic and later soul jazz recording for the Blue Note label from 1960, touched on jazz fusion during a stint on CTI in the 1970s. He was described by critic Steve Huey as "renowned for his distinctively thick, rippling tone [and] earthy grounding in the blues." Turrentine was married to organist Shirley Scott in the 1960s, with whom he frequently recorded, and was the younger brother of trumpeter Tommy Turrentine. Joey Defrancesco- Joey DeFrancesco (born April 10, 1971) is an American jazz organist, trumpeter, and vocalist. He has released more than 30 albums, including recordings with Miles Davis and Jimmy Smith. DeFrancesco signed his first record deal at the age of 16 and has played internationally with musicians that include David Sanborn, Arturo Sandoval, Larry Coryell, Frank Wess, John McLaughlin, Benny Golson, James Moody, Steve Gadd, Danny Gatton, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb, George Benson, Pat Martino, John Scofield, Joe Lovano, and recorded with musicians that included Ray Charles, Bette Midler and Van Morrison. First it was a play, then a film and now Calendar Girls has been made into a musical – already nominated for several Olivier Awards – with book and lyrics by Tim Firth, who wrote the play and co-wrote the film script (with Juliette Towhidi), and music by Gary Barlow. The Girls tells the true story of members of a Yorkshire branch of the Women’s Institute who had the idea of assembling a nude calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research, when the husband of one of the girls became ill and died from the disease. As all the girls of the title are nominated jointly for an Olivier Award, Judi Herman singled out Debbie Chazen, who has the distinction of being the only Jewish girl, as well as being the only one who appeared in the original stage play.

Gary Barlow has written his first musical with his long-time friend, the screenwriter Tim Firth. Tim Firth, writer of the stage version of Calendar Girls - one of the most successful plays in recent British theatre - has turned his hand to a musical. The result is This Is My Family, which explores family life from the perspective of a 13 year old girl, and opens this week in Sheffield.
