In this first conversation of the burnout series, Julia speaks with Veronique Bourbeau, an ultramarathon runner whose life is built around pushing physical and mental limits. From record-breaking endurance races to multi-thousand-kilometre runs across countries, Veronique understands better than most what it means to reach the edge of exhaustion. Yet her perspective on burnout may surprise you. Burnout, she explains, is rarely about simply pushing harder. In fact, the real danger often comes from refusing to acknowledge how we feel. Before the mind admits burnout, the body already knows. Learning to listen — physically and emotionally — becomes essential. Veronique speaks candidly about the dark moments that appear during long runs and in life: the moments when doubt creeps in, when energy drops, and when continuing feels almost impossible. Instead of forcing herself forward, she focuses on the smallest next step — the next kilometre, the next breath, the next essential task. The conversation also challenges the myth that strength means endless resilience. Veronique argues that acknowledging when you are not okay is often the first step out of burnout. Kindness to oneself, honesty about energy levels, and the courage to slow down can be far more powerful than relentless pressure to perform. This episode is a reminder that burnout is not a personal failure. It is a signal — one that asks us to listen more closely to our bodies, our energy, and our deeper purpose. About the Guest Veronique Bourbeau is a record-breaking ultramarathoner, author of Fearless: One Woman's Transformational Journey from a Treadmill to Running the African Continent, and the Founder and CEO of Run4Humanity, a non-profit organisation. A global speaker with a Master's in Public Administration, Veronique has dedicated her life to initiatives that move far beyond short-term aid. Her work focuses on empowering communities and helping break the cycle of poverty through access to clean water. Veronique is currently preparing for an extraordinary challenge — becoming the first woman to run the length of Africa from Alexandria to Cape Town, a 14,000 km journey aimed at helping ensure water accessibility for millions and driving long-term change for communities across the continent.

In this episode host Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS interviews Multiple Sclerosis specialist and researcher Dr. Herb Karpatkin, PT, DSc, NCS, MSCS to discuss how therapy for people with multiple sclerosis must be fundamentally different from approaches used for stroke, spinal cord injury, or TBI. In his research Herb discovered an incidental finding that led to more questions that he and his team wanted to investigate: does treadmill walking carry over to overground walking in persons with MS? In the show he explains the nuances of treadmill walking for persons with MS vs healthy controls and when to use it or not. Herb shares his framework on intermittent, high-intensity interval walking and strength training, which allow people with MS to push hard, rest, and achieve meaningful aerobic gains and functional improvements without excessive fatigue. Instead of telling people with MS they can't work hard or lift heavy, his research finds that to be absolutely untrue. Herb and Erin also discuss a couple of past patients who wanted to complete the MS Society 5k walk and what the training looked like and what could have been done differently. The topic of cooling came up and how to effectively implement this technique to allow persons with MS to do more without overheating. Check out episode 233 with Herb MS: Update on evidence based interventions to improve gait and balance 1.5 hour Mini Course
As much as it sucks, more volume is almost always the answer. In Episode #516 of 'Meanderings', Juan & I discuss: volume versus form (sparked by a YouTuber/runner known as Ran to Japan), what extreme running volume really looks like when you're fast enough to compress a marathon into a couple of hours per day, how training load evolves across years, why sheer reps often trump optimisation, steadily ramping the volume to match your goals and importance, why novice gains come from doing more before optimising, how soreness can signal meaningful work done and when “working dumber” (less overthinking) can paradoxically deliver better outcomes. There's something beautiful about “boring” training. In this fourth check-in with Matthew, nothing dramatic has happened - no injuries, no big breakthroughs, no chaos. And honestly? That's exactly what we want. After completing an ultra just over a month ago, Matthew has dialled things back sensibly. He's sticking to a three-hour long-run ceiling, building strength through consistent back-to-backs, and focusing on staying healthy rather than chasing ego mileage. We dive into: •Why he caps long runs at three hours (and the research he's been listening to) •The power of repeated back-to-backs instead of one massive weekend •Running in London vs running in proper countryside darkness •Training in relentless mud and fully saturated trails •Road-to-trail shoe choices for Delirious •His detailed blister prevention strategy (including toe sleeves, taping methods and lessons from Fixing Your Feet) •Why treadmill hill reps have entered the chat •The culture shock of going from minus one degree to Western Australian heat •And the wisdom of NOT skateboarding two days before a 200-mile race

Introduction and RecapMany Christians today find themselves on the “Treadmill of Religion:” running like crazy but not actually going anywhere. Many feel “stuck” in their spiritual growth anddevelopment…but this is something that every Christian ought to be pursuing. In Philippians 1:1-8, Paul has told us not only how he feels about these believers, but also how he identifies them:1. They are saints (vs 1) - set apart from sin unto God, holy, “in” Christ2. They are partners in ministry (vs 5) – financial support, cooperation in evangelism, prayer and concern for Paul3. They are partakers of grace (vs 7) – salvation grace and empowering grace for ministryPaul’s prayer in vs 9-11 is for the spiritual growth and development of the believers. The Principles for Spiritual GrowthThe Foundation: Love (vs 9)Everything in the Christian life flows from a heart that loves God and loves people.Love is the greatest of all Christian virtues! The kind of love Paul is talking about here can be defined as…A Divine Love - God is the source, he provides it!Rom. 5:5 – God’s love shed abroad in our hearts1 John 4:19 – we love because he first loved usAn Active Love – Greek word agape = love of the will or choice1 Cor. 13 – all actionsJohn 3:16 – For God so loved the world that he gaveThis love seeks the good of others and meets real needsAn Intelligent Love - love that is accompanied by knowledge and discernmentKnowledge = truth of God’s word (love informed)Discernment = moral insight/perception/application of truthThe Filter: Discernment (vs 10)The foundation of love leads to the filter of discernment: the ability to “discern what is best” for our lives.Discerning between what is “good” and what is “best” for us.It’s the ability to establish the right priorities and make wise informed choices that will cause spiritual growth. The Fruit: Righteousness (vs 11)When we apply this discerning love to our lives, it results in bearing

Richard McGirr interviews Matt Drouin about what actually makes paid ads work for high-ticket offers—and why most people fail when they try to bolt ads onto capital raising without the right infrastructure. Matt breaks down the core “go/no-go” checklist (starting with a crystal-clear offer), choosing the right channel for your ICP (Meta for older, Facebook-group-heavy investors), and why your CRM, follow-up, and speed-to-lead matter as much as the ads themselves. They dig into lead-quality filtering (conditional logic on lead forms), training your pixel with the right conversion signals, and how to think about creative/VSLs, proof, and ad fatigue. Matt's biggest takeaway: stop DIY-ing it blindly—hire experienced help, because paid is a different beast than organic.
