Antonio Forcione is an artist in every sense of the word, hailed as one of the most charismatic, unconventional guitarists at large in the musical world today. With a host of international awards under his belt, this eclectic composer never ceases to stun his audience on stage, leading him to be referred to as the ‘Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar”. His solo performances never fail to bring the house down, let alone when he is performing in duo, as a trio, or with his quartet of international musicians. He breaks the mould of most conventional guitar sounds, be it in the field of jazz, Spanish, African, Brazilian or improvised music, with ferocious virtuosity, passion and humour. He has shared the stage and recorded with some of the world's most accomplished musicians including Charlie Haden, Angelique Kidjo, Trilok Gurtu, Larry Coryell, Diego el Cigala and many more (see list below) as well as supporting giants such as Phil Collins, Bobby McFerrin, Zucchero and Van Morrison amongst others. I first discovered Trilok Gurtu's music around 25 to 30 years ago when it was playing in a record store. It was like my soul instantly connected with his music, and I've been following his work ever since. About a decade later, I had the incredible opportunity to back up Trilok in a performance. Let me tell you, he left me completely awestruck. During the sound check, he did something mind-blowing – he used his left hand and left foot on a standard drum set while simultaneously using his right hand and foot to create a completely different rhythm on an Indian percussion setup. "Wow" is the only word that can capture what I witnessed and heard; it was truly breathtaking, and it left my brain and heart wanting more. Later, I had the pleasure of meeting Trilok in person. I can confidently say that he's not only an extraordinary musician but also a genuinely nice person to chat with. Trilok Gurtu's musical journey began in Bombay, India, where he was born into a musical family. He started playing at a very young age and later travelled to Europe, where he joined the Don Cherry quartet and went on to tour worldwide with groups like Oregon, collaborating with jazz and world music greats. Over the years, he evolved as a musician and performer, blending modern jazz and rock with elements of Indian rhythms and singing into his compositions. His stage presence and humorous presentations added a unique aspect to his performances. A true rhythmic innovator, Starting his music career as a session drummer with Odeon Records, Ivan collaborated with artists such as Gal Costa, Roberto Carlos and Jorge Ben Ivan gained standing as one of the founding members of Azymuth and is Brazil's answer to Tony Allen, Steve Gadd, Ginger Baker or Trilok Gurtu, Azymuth is a Brazilian jazz-funk group formed in 1973. The original lineup was a trio composed of José Roberto Bertrami, Alex Malheiros, and Ivan Conti, they gained international recognition in the 1970s and signed with Milestone Records in 1979, where they recorded a number of albums. I first saw Ivan in Manchester some 20 years ago when Azymuth came to town, Azymuth was not really on my radar but I was taken by a friend of mine, well, as the concert started I was an instant convert, amazing. Ivan Conti also explored solo ventures and electronic dance music collaborations throughout his career. Known for his unique drumming style blending jazz-funk with Brazilian rhythms, contributing to Azymuth's distinctive sound. Ivan's career has spanned far beyond half a century's worth of recordings with the likes of Milton Nascimento, Eumir Deodato, Marcos Valle, Hyldon, Gal Costa and Jorge Ben. More recently Mamao recorded an album with hip-hop giant Madlib under the AKA ‘Jackson Conti'.  Info website - www.raysroom.org cardpage - www.raysinfo.org email - raysroom@mail.com Please enjoy the music I love. Prawie 700 osób aresztowanych, zniszczone sklepy, budynki użyteczności publicznej, spalone samochody – to bilans tych starć. To kolejny dramatyczny protest w trakcie prezydentury Macrona. The life of Kai Eckhardt reads like one unbelievable series of multiple lifetimes' worth of experiences squeezed into one so far. Born 1961 in Mainz, Germany to the Liberian '50 cent Doctor' of a polygamist tribe who went on to become the country's President's medical advisor after finishing a degree in medicine from New York City where he'd landed as a stowaway, and a Lutheran-Evangelist German mother who survived the Allied Forces bombings of Nazi Germany as a 10-year-old by sheer chance, only to go on to be shunned by her family and friends for marrying a black man, Kai Eckhardt's contribution to the world of Jazz-fusion is etched into history books as founding bass-player for one of the most important Jazz Guitar Trios of the world with John McLaughlin and Trilok Gurtu. A career he walked away from to return to Germany to nurse his foster father in his last years while watching him redeem a soul plagued by the conscience of an SSS fighter who escaped Russian captivity shortly before the end of WWII, saved only by the convenient coincidence of not having being tattooed with the symbol due to late enrolment. All before he eventually migrated to California where he went on to make waves with his genre-bending band Garaj Mahal , and lives in with his partner (now wife) of 30 years with whom he fathers two offsprings. In this first part of two episodes, I dive in deep with my dear friend and mentor Kai Eckhardt to visit the earliest years of his childhood growing up as Germany's first generation of colored natives amidst the disturbing, heartbreaking yet soul-stirring and conflicted era of post-WWII Germany. One which still employed Third Reich veterans as school teachers and sports coaches and stands testimony to the country's ever-evolving and conflicted stand on its contemporary identity.   This episode is brought to you by www.everynowheremusic.com   Recorded on a Zoom L8 Mixer kindly sponsored by https://www.sound-service.eu   Connect with Kai:  Website : https://kaieckhardt.com/ Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/kai.eckhardt.94 Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/kaizone61/ Twitter : https://twitter.com/kaieckhardt?lang=en    Connect with T.L. / EveryNowHere Website: www.findtl.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/everynowheremusic/ Spotify: https://spoti.fi/39S0dP5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tlmusician Twitter: https://twitter.com/tlmazumdar

On 1st February 2017, two of the world's most famous percussionists, Trilok Gurtu from India, and Scotland's Evelyn Glennie, were brought together in a one-off performance at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival, an annual folk, roots and world music event that celebrates Celtic music and its connections to cultures from across the globe. The special collaboration, titled 'The Rhythm in Me' was commissioned to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence, and consisted of partly live-improvised and partly reworked material by Gurtu and Glennie. The pair devised the set over Skype, and rehearsed together only one day before the concert. We were lucky enough to catch up with the artists backstage following this unforgettable performance, to find out how they came to work together and hear more about their work as musicians. Percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie; comedian Milton Jones; writer and filmmaker Xiaolu Guo and novelist Arno Geiger meet Libby Purves. Evelyn Glennie is an award-winning percussionist. She played the first percussion concerto in the history of The Proms at the Albert Hall in 1992, which paved the way for orchestras around the world to feature percussion concerti. She also played a leading role role in the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Profoundly deaf since childhood, she set out to use her body as a resonating chamber, 'hearing' partly through her bare feet on the floor. As part of the Celtic Connections Festival she is playing a new piece marking the 70th anniversary of the partition of India alongside fellow percussionist Trilok Gurtu. The Rhythm in Me premieres at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Xiaolu Guo is a Chinese born writer and film-maker. In her memoir, Once Upon a Time in the East, she recounts her tumultuous life from meeting her parents for the first time at six and living in grinding poverty with her illiterate grandparents in a fishing village on the East China Sea. Her story takes her from a run-down shack to film school in a rapidly changing Beijing, navigating the complexities of modern China - censorship, underground art and Western boyfriends. Once Upon a Time in the East: A story of Growing Up is published by Chatto & Windus. Arno Geiger is an Austrian novelist. In The Old King in his Exile he tells the story of his late father August's struggle with Alzheimer's disease. The book is a deeply moving account of his father's illness but also stresses how it brought the two closer together. A remote figure, August didn't talk to his family much about his past - a frugal childhood and wartime experiences as a child soldier - but as his dementia took hold his son discovered more about the man and his character. The Old King in his Exile is published by And Other Stories. Milton Jones is a stand-up comedian, known by many as the king of the one-liners. He's a regular panellist on BBC Two's Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo and , Thanks a Lot Milton Jones! on Radio 4. Later this year he embarks on a new tour, Milton Jones is Out There, taking a philosophical look at his life so far with his 'manifesto of nonsense'. Milton Jones is Out There 2017 tour begins in September at the Richmond Theatre. Producer: Paula McGinley.

Machli was formed in 2013 in a small colony called SFS in a satellite town outside of Bangalore by Aniruddh Menon, Musharraf Shaikh, Sandhya Visvanathan and Maitreya Mer, and we’ve been smitten by their sound since we stumbled upon them earlier this year. Despite only releasing a handful of singles on their SoundCloud page, the oddball bunch of art and design students caught our attention with their curiously experimental brand of music, unquestionably producing some of the most interesting and complex sounds this year. Their style tends to be contemplative, sometime melancholy, but always hopeful and affably unpretentious. Each band member brings his or her inspiration and sensibility to Machli so it’s of little wonder that the exclusive mix that they’ve created for us is so diverse. This is a heady amalgam of sounds that despite its outwardly chalk-and-cheese appearance, works surprisingly well. Machli’s mix fluctuates between a variety of music from the mellow, jazz grooves and beats of Trilok Gurtu, to the indie pop noises of Vampire Weekend. Throw in a pinch of heavy rock and a generous dose of RD Burman and Kishore Kumar and what you get is an unconventional, yet strangely appealing mishmash of sounds that despite the range of genre, turns out mellow, relaxed and introspective, without being gloomy. We'd listen to Machli’s mix on a long road trip out of town, windows lowered, ideally on a cool, grey autumn’s day.
