Today's Destination is: Edinburgh, Scotland   Today's Misstep- Too much of a good thing   Travel Advice: Eat early, rest early   FAQ: How do I remember to stretch while on the road?   Answer: Tips for Remembering to Stretch: Set Phone Reminders: Schedule gentle reminders on your phone for morning and evening stretches. This way, it's a built-in routine, just like brushing your teeth. Tie it to Daily Activities: Stretch after sitting for long periods, like after a meal or a bus/train ride. This helps to break up stiffness and becomes part of your rhythm. Use Cues in Your Environment: Place visual cues like a stretchy band or even a scarf in plain sight to remind you to stretch or exercise. Wind Down with Evening Stretches: A simple stretching routine before bed helps with relaxation and keeps you consistent.   Today's destination: Edinburgh, Scotland, It's got to be one of the favorite places in Europe for great walkable cities. There are hills, though, which can be challenging. I was there in July, right before the Fringe Festival, which is in August. This is a very busy time for tourists, and they say the city gets clogged up. To maximize my visit, I chose the hop-on, hop-off tour bus, which allowed me to take three different routes for 24 hours, so I spread it over two days. Edinburgh is safe for solo travelers, but as with any city, keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas. Edinburgh weather can change rapidly. Dress in layers, and carry a light rain jacket or umbrella. If you are hearty and want a challenge, Hike Arthur's Seat, a small hill, which will take 2-2.5 hours, with a great view. It's Stop 13 on the Green tour, Of course you want to see Edinburgh castle, the National Museum (free) and Gallery. Oh, and see Parliament, too. Recommend Carlton Hill, with National Monument. They still shoot off canons here daily. Here are my top recommendations:  Edinburgh Castle. visit the city's most famous landmark with a breathtaking view over Edinburgh. You'll see the Crown Jewels of Scotland , the mint, and the Stone of Destiny. Consider taking a guided tour to learn more about the castle's history. Arrive early in the day to avoid crowds.  Royal Mile Stroll, for basic people-watching and shopping. Why Visit: The Royal Mile connects Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood Palace, offering charming cobblestone streets, historic buildings, churches, shops, and cafes. Stop in for a mass if it's your jam, and see a religious service here at St. Giles. Tips: Take your time exploring the side streets and grab a coffee in a cozy café along the way. You may even stop in the Harry Potter neighborhood, Diiagon Alley, Victoria Street, like I did. Mentioned earlier,  Arthur's Seat Hike. Why Visit: Arthur's Seat offers a gentle trail and panoramic views of the city and coastline. It's free, and it's a great place for those who enjoy light hiking. Tips: Choose the easiest route (via Dunsapie Loch) if you want a less strenuous climb. Bring a windbreaker; it can get windy at the top. Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Why Visit: This peaceful oasis is perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll among exotic plants and beautifully landscaped gardens. I loved this place and the park across the street, it was not on the touristy lists. Britannia Port is nearby, too. Princes Street Gardens Located right in the city's heart, these gardens are ideal for a leisurely walk with views of the castle and great nature-loving. It's hard to miss this neighborhood. If you're visiting during December, check out the Christmas Market held here for a festive experience.  Today's Misstep: Too much of a good thing, touristy places.

In our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in the show between the 22nd and the 26th April (Episodes #11,246 - 11,251). Well this week's action certainly stirred up some strong opinions online, didn't it? And we're not talking about the will-they-won't-they relationship status of Asha and Nina either.. No, it seems that with Toyah's new story, which kicked off on Monday, Corrie is asking its viewers to suspend quite a bit of disbelief and accept the fact that for six months or so of 2001, Toyah was pregnant with Phil Simmonds' baby. You know, despite there being no evidence on screen at the time that that could have possibly been the case. Since rumours of this story started doing the rounds about a month or so ago, we've been whipping ourselves into a frenzy about the unlikelihood of this turn of events, and now it's been shown on screen... we really do have mixed opinions. Elsewhere this week, the little projectionist living inside Roy's head treats us to another thrilling instalment of what's going on in his inner psyche, Amy struggles to find interview guests for her new radio show (we've all been there, Amy!) and Todd makes a scandalous discovery tucked amongst Archie's files at the undertaker's... Up next on the podcast, we take a trip to the Kabin, where the new sponsor taking over the Co-op unit on Victoria Street has been revealed, and Sue Cleaver's got a new book coming out later in the year! We've got plenty of listener emails to get through at the end of the episode, so we round things of with a bit of a bumper feedback section. His keys and wallet were found untouched in his home, doors unlocked and lights still on.From the very beginning, law enforcement suspected foul play, and the North District Major Crime Unit was brought in to assist the Prince Rupert RCMP. Yet, despite their relentless efforts, Lawrence Maitland remains missing, leaving his family in a painful limbo of uncertainty. In this episode, we hear from Lawrence's family members, who passionately plead for anyone with information to come forward. They firmly believe that someone out there holds the key to solving this mystery and bringing their loved one home.Lawrence Maitland is described as a 44-year-old Indigenous man, standing at 5'9" and weighing 187 lbs. He has distinctive features, including slicked-back black hair and a black goatee. If you have any information that could shed light on Lawrence Maitland's disappearance, please contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at (250) 627-0700. Dale Kemp began his cooking career back home in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Although he had always been aware of and interested in the fact his grandmother was a great cook - she had a huge garden and grew fruit and vegetables throughout the year – he didn't think about becoming a chef until he got an after-school job at 16 as a dishwasher at the Boat Shed Café in Nelson. He loved the sounds, the aromas, and the adrenaline you get from a busy service. This was at the Boat Shed Cafe in Nelson, New Zealand. After working there and at other venues around the South Island, as well as completing his qualifications, Dale moved to Melbourne when he was 18 and began working at Hammer and Tong in Fitzroy under Emma Jeffery and Simon Ward. After Hammer and Tong, he worked at Little Big Sugar Salt on Victoria Street in Abbotsford as sous chef before starting at Terror Twilight also as sous chef. A few months later, he took over the head chef role and five years on he is executive chef of the group with 4 venues and a thriving catering kitchen. I sat down with Dale at Convoy in Moonee Ponds on a chilly Melbourne morning and had a really great coffee. It's a beautiful space with white walls, pale wood and a lot of lush plants on the huge deck. The menu is no run-of-the-mill café fare offering a very popular Turkish eggs dish as well as cinnamon scroll pancakes, a king prawn roll and a steak frites sandwich amongst other delicious options. Convoy turns one this week and they are offering free coffees on Friday. But I reckon you are in for a treat any time you go. And if you like great music, the other venues, Terror Twilight and Hifi spin vast amounts of vinyl as well as producing tasty wholesome food.

FLAT CHAT

It's hardly a true crime podcast but this week, inspired by connections made in the press between the relatives of property developers and their friends with police records,  we wade into the murky waters of past cases where the Venn diagrams of criminals and property developers have overlapped. It should be no surprise to anyone that the high-risk, high rewards ventures like unregulated property development and criminal activities would have attracted similar kinds of characters. But whatever's going on nowadays – and we shouldn't assume that there was anything untoward afoot in the reported cases –  it would pale into insignificance compared to some stories from the fairly recent past. Meanwhile, Sue explores the still risky but much safer area of searching for bargains in blocks that are known to have problems. We also look (with clothes pegs on our noses) at a Qld body corporate who thought their responsibility for a flat being flooded with sewage ended where their insurance cover ran out. And we get a resolution on the question of whether the representative of one block on a community committee of four can veto agenda items that they don't like. All than and more in the Flat Chat Wrap. TRANSCRIPT IN FULL Jimmy  00:00 One of the interesting things that came out of the whole David Chandler, Eleni Petinos thing, was that the company that he was asked to go and deal with (who's building he'd put a stop-work order on)... It came out in a paper, that the brother of one of the directors was thought to be associated with somebody who had a criminal record; they had a picture… and that sent a few people into a tizz. So we're going to talk about the connection between alleged criminals and alleged developers, in the podcast today. We're also going to talk about; you did an article about whether it was worth buying into buildings, where you knew there were problems. And we're going to talk about a body corporate in Queensland that got itself in the poo. I'm Jimmy Thomson, I write the Flat Chat column for the Australian Financial Review. Sue  00:57 And I'm Sue Williams and I write about property for Domain. Jimmy  00:59 And this is the Flat Chat Wrap. [MUSIC] Jimmy Property developers with criminal connections... Sue, does this surprise you? Sue  01:20 Well, it's like going back to the days of the 70s, really, isn't it? Jimmy  01:25 I remember, just when we started writing about this stuff, somebody told me a story that they were in a meeting, and there was a building in Victoria Street in Kings Cross, I think, where the notorious underworld character, Lenny McPherson, had been buying up all the apartments in the building, with a view to knocking it down and building apartments. In those days, you had to get 100% approval from the owners, that they would sell the building to whoever. And there was one old bloke who just didn't want to sell. He said "look, I don't want to be difficult, but I've lived in this apartment since I got married as a young man. I brought up my kids here and my wife lived here with me, before she died. I like to just sit in the corner window and look at the world go by. So you know, if Mr. McPherson wants to buy my apartment, all I ask is that I get an apartment in the same position in the new building. And Macpherson's lawyer said "okay, this is how it's going to work. Mr. McPherson is going to let out all the apartments that he owns, to drug dealers and prostitutes and bikies, and young people and backpackers." Sue  02:47 That's horrendous, isn't it?! Jimmy  02:48 "Then some days, your water will get turned off, and you'll call up the building manager, or the strata manager and they might get around to fixing it. And other days, the electricity will suddenly stop and eventually, your life will just not be worth living, so why don't you just sell?" Sue  03:05 Wow! And I bet that happened quite a bit. Jimmy  03:08

Funny story. I actually met Ha in the spa pool in my apartment building. He was talking to some other neighbours in the pool about restaurants and about his cooking school, Otao Kitchen, which obviously piqued my interest. I told him about Conversation with a Chef and very happily for me, he agreed to talk to me. I had walked past his original cooking school venue on Victoria Street so many times and had often thought about doing a class or having a chat to the chef. On the day I walked down to talk to Ha, it was 32º and I hadn't realised that he had new premises, still on Victoria Street, but a little further down. I was a molten version of myself by the time I got there, but the school was cool and high ceilinged and quite beautiful. Ha had a big bottle of sparkling water for me and generously gave me a lot of his time and told me his story. Ha is originally from Hanoi in Vietnam and pursued cooking studies in Wellington, New Zealand before coming to Melbourne and working at a hiking lodge on the Great Ocean Road for six years. He now runs a highly successful cooking school in Abbotsford. I'm now booked in for a dumpling Master Class next week and I can't wait.

What a day! 6 AM train from Warrnambool. Some nice views of dawn as we were leaving town. Mist in the paddocks and that. Was feeling a bit agoraphobic on the train and thought about coming straight home, but screw that! Got to the apartment and checked-in. Woman was on the phone to the manager about a bad review they got about the check-in process, and kept me waiting for like 5 mins while they discussed this. Bit weird. Was nice once I was checked in. A little space like that would be cool to live in. Man, East Melbourne is so nice. The spectre of Sophie and my past life looms large though. Met Caroline in the park for an L&P and plum picnic, and then walked to yo-chi for fro-yo. Very good! Nice to hang out with Caroline. Probably the first civilian outside of a pretty small bubble that I've spoken to socially in a year a more? Was cool. Then, walked to Abotsford convent. Met Eleanor and took a stroll. Bumped into Jason and he let us into some cool spaces. One had these beautiful stain glass windows. So shiok. Lovely to chat with Eleanor a while. She's similarly unsure about Get Back. Had to rush off from that meet up to get back to yo-chi to meet Luyuan. I was flustered from walking all day and being late and looking like crap, so I was a bit less cool than I'd hope to have been. So great to meet an internet acquaintance again. Hadn't done that in a while. They were super-cool. I told them again that I wish they'd do a podcast because I love their speaking voice. We had fro-yo, then walked to and around the cemetery. My phone and watch lost battery at this point so is got no credit in the fitness app for this walking. Hope I wasn't too stalker-ish towards Luyuan - I had a lot of questions about things they'd posted about over the last couple of years. Haha. After parting from Luyuan, I walked another several kilometres back to the apartment. Got a 400 Gradi pizza from the Tribeca IGA because I thought I'd be too tired to go out for dinner on Victoria Street or to Hollywood Hill. Got home and realised that the apartment didn't have an oven! I ate a bunch of chips and chocolate charged my phone and watch. Really sucked not having battery when I wanted to be out and about! I kind of forgot that one could sign-in manually at places, so I felt basically locked out of everywhere. Ha. Did some urban-swiping on the dating apps. Very different to the scene in Warrnambool. Interesting! Very nice day. Very grateful that such nice people took the time to meet up with me and hang out. Mood: 7.5. Energy: 7.

A teenager has been told he will serve at least 20 years behind bars for murdering a former friend when rival gangs clashed in Ashford. 19-year-old Jaydon McFarlane died after being stabbed in the Brookfield Road area of the town in March last year. Osita Alagbaoso was found guilty following a trial earlier this year. Hear from our reporter who was in court today and the police officer who led the investigation. Also in today's podcast, councils across the country are going to be ordered to find accommodation for young asylum seekers. It comes after authorities in Kent threatened the government with legal action as services became overwhelmed. People living in part of Whitstable say they fear their streets will be littered with rubbish as black wheelie bins look set to be replaced with purple sacks. Hear from a resident of Victoria Street and a local councillor. The odds of a white Christmas this year have been slashed, but there's also a warning about flooding. Forecasters are predicting a wet winter and we've been speaking to Kent's flood risk manager to get the very latest advice. A Canterbury woman who was unable to work following a car crash has spoken about the harsh realities of trying to survive on Universal Credit. Karen Isaac was forced to sell possessions to make ends meet as she didn't want to turn to family for help - she's now teamed up with charity Turn2Us to help end the stigma. And, the Gillingham manager says they still have plenty of injury concerns ahead of their league one game against Cheltenham Town tonight.

Today's podcast hosts a special guest Late Night Girl. Due to the hardships in her personal life, work became another source of hardship to what was already a difficult time. You will learn exactly what bullying in the workplace looks like from her story and how you can overcome and deal with these troubling matters.        After interviewing LNG, her thoughts and the way she spoke was with complete sincerity. I first learned most from her blog and chatted with her via email for a few days and couldn't wait to hear more. Let's just say that despite all the blogs, the emotion and compassion doesn't quite convey itself in text alone. You have to hear it from her yourself.  If you are going through workplace bullying and feel you are alone in this, then listen to this. You will no longer feel alone!  Late Night Girl can be found on Twitter and other social media and more specifically her blog listed here ----------------->https://expret.org/blog/      Pret a Manger is an international sandwich shop chain based in the United Kingdom, commonly referred to simply as Pret. Founded in 1983, Pret currently has over 450 shops in nine countries.    Pret A Manger, 1986 onwards Beecham and Metcalfe started a new operation, using the Pret A Manger name purchased from the former company's liquidator. They opened their first Pret A Manger in July 1986, located at 75b Victoria Street in London. Beecham and Metcalfe had met while studying at university.[14]  The pair developed the chain's menu of handmade natural food, prepared in shop kitchens, and they remain significant shareholders in the company. The iconic logo was created by Adrian Kilby, founder of The Formation Creative Consultants Europe Ltd in the 1990s.  In 1995 Metcalfe and Beecham set up the Pret Foundation Trust with the aim to alleviate poverty in the UK. The Trust receives donations from the sale of products and collection boxes in shops. The donations fund Pret's "Charity Run" vans which deliver unsold food to homeless shelters at the end of each day.  The first shop outside of London was opened on Broad Street, New York, in 2000. In 2016, there were 74 Pret shops in the United States.  In 2001, McDonald's bought a 33% non-controlling stake in the company, which they sold in 2008 to private equity firm Bridgepoint Capital. The company opened its first shop in France in 2012, and had a total of 19 shops in France in 2016.[18]  In 2016, its group sales were £776 million.  On 19 March 2018, the company opened it first store in The Netherlands located in the central railway station of Utrecht.  On 29 May 2018, JAB Holding Company announced that it will acquire Pret A Manger from Bridgepoint, with the deal expected to be completed during summer 2018. The company emphasises the use of natural ingredients and advertises that its sandwiches are made on the day of purchase in a kitchen at each location (with the stated exception of a few small outlets).  Food left unsold at the end of the day is collected by charities.  Sandwiches are packaged in paperboard rather than sealed plastic.[24] 67% of its trade is in London, where around three-quarters of its stores are located --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theadamparadox/support
