Hey horror fans! This week we're joined by Isaiah Saxon, director of A24's The Legend of Ochi and co-founder of the visionary film and animation studio Encyclopedia Pictura. We talk about Isaiah's early creative roots, from drawing and stop-motion to building the kid-focused platform DIY.org, and how all of that shaped his unique approach to storytelling. Then we dive deep into the stunning handmade world of Carpathia—filled with puppets, animatronics, painted maps, 1930s lenses, and big heart.Isaiah shares what it was like working with Willem Dafoe and Helena Zengel, how he blends mythology and music, and why he believes films should feel like moving paintings instead of hyper-reality.We left this conversation genuinely inspired; Isaiah is someone bringing magic back to movies in a way we haven't seen in a long time.If you're into bold storytelling, weird creatures, and fantasy flicks from the '80s and '90s, this one's for you so...COME HANG OUT!!!Follow Us on Social Media:Instagram & Threads: @mostlyhorrorpodTikTok & Twitter/X: @mostlyhorrorSteve: @stevenisaverage on all socialsSean: @hypocrite.ink on IG/TikTok, @hypocriteink on Twitter/XEnjoy this episode? So, if you've ever wondered what it would be like to be a weird kid who likes to make up goofy lyrics to songs, but both of your parents think you're freaking nuts, but mom buys you an accordion anyway, and you meet this DJ who becomes your manager and invites you to a pool party and all your heroes are there including Divine, Pee-wee Herman, and Tiny Tim, and your novelty song with your goofy lyrics gets played on the radio and Madonna hits on you so her songs will be more popular with your goofy lyrics but Michael Jackson takes your “original” song and does his own version of it, and you and Madonna go to some Third World country with lots of trees and meet with a drug lord, then you drink a lot, have a meltdown, turn on your bandmates, drink more, crash your car and almost die, and your dad explains his backstory, he grew up in an Amish community and also played the accordion and got ridiculed, so he didn't want you to go through all that shit, and then you perform at a huge concert packed with cheering fans and the drug lord kills you, then this podcast is for you!

A story about Hollywood, a man with a dream, special effects, and UNIONS. Listen in as me and new guest, Brian, travel to Tinseltown of yesteryear with this silly, impressive, and utterly fun ode/jibe at the movie business. Written and directed by Mike Jittlov (The Wizard of Speed and Time), Time Out called the film a "bizarre and wacky conglomeration of [special effects] and fantasy slapstick," and 366 Weird Movies said "there is something genuinely charming here." I have to be honest, when Brian suggested this film I thought it was going to be wretched. I have to say that I found it to be utterly delightful. Of course, my own struggles as a filmmaker certainly play a part in how I see this film. Perhaps it might be a bit more boring and annoying to non-industry people, but listen in and see what we have to say about the experience. It tells the story of filmmaker & special effects artist Mike Jittlov (played by himself) as he struggles to get his career going. He gets a chance to produce a segment for a TV program highlighting special effects. The thing he doesn't know is that the two producers have a bet going as to whether or not he'll be able to deliver the product on time. As Mike and his friends work to make their dreams come true, they find themselves beset on all sides by impossible union rules, overly zealous law enforcement, and the tax man. This movie is zany and definitely worth a watch. The film is currently available on YouTube. Yes, you read that correct. YouTube. For FREE.

Our main topic is weird movies. Mike starts off with The Happiness of the Katakuris. Ryan covers Psycho Kickboxer. Shane goes into #rubber completely underrated movie about a murderous car tire. Other movies include Antichrist, Grave of the Vampire, and the new release #Sharkula from the #polonia bros. Also hear the beginnings of a future episode #fetushorror.
