What The Riff?!? makes another "stab" at Halloween with these theme songs, movie and TV music, and rock songs with a bent towards the macabre. We hope you enjoy this second "Halloween" special! Hungry Like the Wolf by Duran Duran This is the breakthrough song off Duran Duran's Rio album. It was inspired by the Big Bad Wolf in the Little Red Riding Hood story. It is also wone of the first times where video popularity drove the success of the band, with Duran Duran on constant play for the new MTV station.Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo Danny Elfman fronted this new wave band before he became famous for his work on film scores. It also appeared in the comedy film "Back to School" starring Rodney Dangerfield. This Is Halloween by Marilyn Manson Oingo Boingo wrote this track for "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and shock rocker Marilyn Manson takes on this cover.Theme from the "Harry Potter" film series The Wizarding world of Harry Potter has been an enduring franchise, and this music draws us into that world from the first few notes.Pet Sematary by The Ramones Steven King was a big fan of the Ramones, and invited the band to his place in Maine. While there Dee Dee Ramone wandered into the basement with a copy of King's "Pet Sematary" and returned an hour later with the lyrics to this song.Bad Things by Jace Everett "True Blood" is a series on HBO based on a novel called "The Southern Vampire Mysteries," and the show portrays vampires in a campy, dark comedy style. Country singer-songwriter Jace Everett provided the intro music to this series.Werewolf Bar Mitzvah by Donald Glover and Tracy Morgan A skit in the television series "30 Rock" would produce this song. Originally a 7-second clip from a skit, it was turned into a full fledged Halloween novelty song due to popular demand.Witch Doctor by David Seville The origins of this song go back to 1958, where Seville tells the story of how a guy learned to talk to girls from a witch doctor friend. It has become a well known novelty song covered by a number of artists.Devil in Disguise by Elvis Presley The King dropped this single in 1963 about a girl who uses her charm to manipulate people to get what she wants. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard singles chart. You're Dead by Norma Tanega Singer-songwriter and experimental musician Norma Tanega was better known for writing songs for Dusty Springfield. However, this song which she penned in 1966 was picked up for use in the vampire satire "What We Do In the Shadows" in 2014.Devil Went Down to Georgia by the Charlie Daniels Band Folks, don't bet your soul against the Devil. But if you do, make sure you're the best fiddler that there has ever been. Charlie Daniels would peak at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with this song.Runnin' with the Devil by Van Halen The first album that Van Halen produced was a monster in itself, and this track was the first one on the album. It is a great introduction to the band, not only for Eddie Van Halen's guitar work, but also for David Lee Roth's screams, Michael Anthony's high harmonies, and Alex Van Halen's percussion work.
I never thought I would walk away from a book with fears that revolve around eggs and Werewolf Bar Mitzvah but CJ Leede really made it her mission to scar me forever. Maeve Fly is the first novel from Leede and she comes out of the gates with an instant classic. I took as long as I could to read the book because I didn't want it to end. It brings a feminine spin to a story with a lead inspired by American Psycho. It makes the Sunset Strip in California a character all of its own while balancing an interesting story of a girl struggling. I cannot recommend this book enough. If you're looking for a horror that blends sex, violence, and Disney princesses with a bloody harrowing finale, Maeve Fly IS the book you need. I had the chance to chat with the author about Maeve Fly. We got the chance to talk about the inclusion of the theme park and her relationship with it. We also took some time to discuss what makes a good Halloween song which is a very important element of the book. CJ Leede actually made a playlist for the book which I suggest you give a listen to while you read. CJ talks about sexuality in the book and how that so often crosses with the genre of horror. She discusses the importance of the strip to the story and how she experienced it all as a shell of itself during the height of the pandemic.

Mike Roe always wanted to be a storyteller. Currently, he's a writer for LAist, where he covers arts and entertainment. In one viral article, “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah from 30 Rock: an Oral History” Mike was approached to write a book on 30 Rock. In The 30 Rock Book, Mike interviews over 50 of the original cast members, crew, and critics. He discusses how the goofy show became an all-time classic, including who shaped the series like Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, and Donald Glover, who was a writer on the show. In this interview, Mike talks about jokes for one percenters, his obsession with creative ideas, how to write a book while keeping your day job, how he and his wife co-wrote spec screenplays, and surprising themes in The 30 Rock Book. Welcome back to Keystone Copycats With Chris and Zach. If this is your first time listening to this podcast, then you must convince 7 other people to listen to this episode within the next 7 days or you will die. If this is not your first episode, then you might already be out of time. In any case, you're in good hands...maybe. On this episode, Chris and Zach review the 2019 black comedy slasher "Happy Death Day 2 U" starring Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard. Using the tropes established in episode one of this season, Chris and Zach will decide in this episode what percentage “Groundhog Day” this film is. Both our hosts enjoyed this movie, which is odd because neither of them have a penchant for horror films. They even liked this film better than the first Happy Death Day which they reviewed a few episodes ago. So go check the movie out before you listen this week. Or don't. I can't make you do anything you don't want to do. I'm just a super sexy episode description writer who is grossly overpaid and oversexy. My alternate title for this episode: “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah! Loopy, scary! Boys becoming men! Men becoming wolves!” Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @KeystoneCopycats. You can direct your questions and comments to KeystoneCopycats@gmail.com OR you can leave us a voicemail at (513) 239-7682. https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/ https://anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co/

How did these films make the list? What scenes made them poop? And is there anything scarier than violins? Find out on Geeks with Kids. Theme Song by Patrick Mullens TW: evil dogs, furries, soul stealing, dog attacks, and some talk of dog eating (historical, as if that somehow makes it better, but its brief) Show notes: El Cadejo Brewery, El Kadejo Movie, Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, El Cadejo Book (source)

Episode 12 of the "7 Minutes With" podcast, brought to you by DoSomeDamage.com, with your host Steve Weddle. As always, Jedidiah Ayres talks about film, while Chris F. Holm suggests some music, and Holly West discusses TV. This week, we're talking about the top ten songs of the week, the movie WIDOWS, and the BBC show Bodyguar West: hollywest.com/ Holm: chrisfholm.com/ Ayres: spaceythompson.blogspot.com/ Chris Holm: In which a forty-something music geek a thousand miles outside his comfort zone evaluates the week’s most popular songs. 10: Lil Baby & Gunna “Drip Too Hard” If you’d told me the tenth most popular song in America was Lil Baby and Gunna’s “Drip Too Hard,” I would have assumed you made every part of that up. There’s not much song in this song—ostentatious autotune’s still a thing we’re doing, huh?—but what little’s there is catchy enough, I guess. 9: Sheck Wes “Mo Bamba” I don’t know what the fuck I just listened to. This song is like ear herpes. If this is “Mo Bamba,” please put me down for less. 8: Kodak Black ft. Travis Scott & Offset “Zeze” This one’s straight pop rap. Not my cuppa, but fine. Bonus points for the steel drum sample. Minus points for autotune, and the fact that it took three artists to make. 7: Post Malone “Better Now” Sadly, I’m at least peripherally aware of Post Malone, although I’ve never to my knowledge heard his music. He once took Jimmy Fallon to Olive Garden for a bit. It was marginally more entertaining than this air-quotes song, which features—you guessed it—yet more autotune. It’s the cowbell of the twenty-teens. 6: Halsey “Without Me” This is the first song on the list I’m actually familiar with, because it was co-written by a young songwriter from my neck of the woods. (I read about her in the newspaper.) I’m gonna stop pointing out autotune, because so far we’re five for five. You can tell Halsey is edgy because she says fuck. 5: Juice WRLD “Lucid Dreams” It’s super weird to me that this song is based around a sample of Sting’s “Shape of My Heart” off of Ten Summoner’s Tales. It’s also super weird to me that I recognized it immediately. 4. Marshmello ft. Bastille “Happier” In my head, this song is the sequel to Pharrell’s “Happy” that no one asked for. There’s a dog in the video. I’m not sure if he’s Marshmallo or Bastille, but whichever he is, he’s my favorite. 3. Travis Scott “Sicko Mode” The version of this that popped up on YouTube featured Drake. Also a horse. Sadly, Drake was not on the horse. Nor was he credited on the Billboard charts. Poor Drake. I enjoyed his “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah” video, which he for some reason called “Hotline Bling.” Also, Travis Scott’s been on this list twice now, and I still have no idea who the fuck he is. 2. Maroon 5 ft. Cardi B “Girls Like You” I know who all these people are, which probably doesn’t bode well for them, hipness-wise. When Google’s deep learning AI takes over songwriting, all songs will sound like this. It’s still on as I’m typing and I’ve already forgotten it. 1. Ariana Grande “Thank U, Next” All in all, we could do worse than this in the top spot. Ariana Grande can seriously sing. Also, she’s been through some shit. This song’s a shockingly mature rumination on what she’s learned from her previous relationships, released after her breakup with Pete Davidson and the death of her prior ex, Mac Miller. (See? I know stuff about stuff.) Jedidiah Ayres: Widows https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Widows_(2018_film)+ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynda_La_Plante + https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viola_Davis Holly West: Bodyguard: https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/bodyguard/s01/ Music in the episode: Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
