On this episode of Paid in Puke Podcast, we're rummaging through Sofia Coppola's 2013 true crime drama, "The Bling Ring", starring Emma Watson, Katie Chang, Taissa Farming, Claire Julian, Leslie Mann, and Israel Broussard. Coppola based the script on Nancy Jo Sales' 2010 Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins". Our returning guest is the Sparkle Queen known as Laura Lawrence ("9 to 5"). Laura has has seen the film many times, jammed out to the soundtrack many MORE times, and brings a shopping bag full of fun facts. We also get into the film's prescience for today's influencer culture, and why kids are less inclined to aspire to landing "a good job". On the Lunchtime Poll, we reveal the things we have in such abundance, we might not notice getting robbed.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before is a 2018 Teen Romantic Comedy directed by Susan Johnson and based on the novel by Jenny Han. To All The Boys is the story of Lara Jean Covey - LJ, played by Lana Condor. Lara Jean writes 5 letters dedicated to all the boys she's ever loved. The letters were never sent, just a way for her to express her emotions… until… somehow… the letters get mailed. Of the 5 letters sent, 3 of them are pretty notable, including one sent to Lara's older sisters ex boyfriend Josh played by Israel Broussard. There is also a letter sent to Kenny, played by Edward Kewin. And finally a letter is sent to Peter Kavinsky played by Noah Centineo. Also want to mention Anna Cathcart who plays Lara Jean's younger sister Kitty. Janel Parrish plays the older sister Margot. John Corbett plays Dr Covey, Lara Jean's father.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Gaius and Jackson join the Hollywood Burglar Bunch by celebrating the tenth anniversary of The Bling Ring. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Emma Watson, Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Taissa Farmiga, and Claire Julien. Based on the 2010 Vanity Fair article, “The Suspects Wore Louboutins” by Nancy Jo Sales, the film deals with the real-life gang known as the Bling Ring and follows a group of fame obsessed teenagers who use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to burgle their homes. The paid get into the true story that inspired the film, performances, Sofia Coppola's direction, and if it was fair to negatively criticize the film for its morally ambiguous approach towards the subject matter. Extinction Extinction is a 2018 American science fiction action film directed by Ben Young and written by Spenser Cohen and Brad Kane. The film is about a father who has a recurring dream/vision about the loss of his family while witnessing an evil force bent on destruction. The film stars Michael Peña, Lizzy Caplan, Mike Colter, Lilly Aspell, Emma Booth, Israel Broussard, and Lex Shrapnel. It was released on Netflix on July 27, 2018. Australian directed sci fi is some of our favourite sci fi. In this episode we talk about director's cuts, portrayal of android on film and the way changing lighting and altering camera angle through movement can help tell a story. This 2013 film is based on a true story about a group of teenagers who robbed a string of celebrity houses. It is directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, and Emma Watson. These A24 nerds delve deep into the themes and intent of the movie, examining celebrity obsession in the early days of social media and the pop culture zeitgeist of the late 2000s. Remember the days of relevance for Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan? We still do. What letter grade will these movie-buffs give The Bling Ring? Caution: movie spoilers.

Welcome back to Keystone Copycats With Chris and Zach. If this is your first time listening to this podcast, then you must convince 7 other people to listen to this episode within the next 7 days or you will die. If this is not your first episode, then you might already be out of time. In any case, you're in good hands...maybe. On this episode, Chris and Zach review the 2019 black comedy slasher "Happy Death Day 2 U" starring Jessica Rothe and Israel Broussard. Using the tropes established in episode one of this season, Chris and Zach will decide in this episode what percentage “Groundhog Day” this film is. Both our hosts enjoyed this movie, which is odd because neither of them have a penchant for horror films. They even liked this film better than the first Happy Death Day which they reviewed a few episodes ago. So go check the movie out before you listen this week. Or don't. I can't make you do anything you don't want to do. I'm just a super sexy episode description writer who is grossly overpaid and oversexy. My alternate title for this episode: “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah! Episode Three: Happy Death Day Welcome back to Keystone Copycats With Chris and Zach. If this is your first time listening to this podcast, then hopefully you've at least seen the film Groundhog Day before so you can kind of catch on to what's going on in this episode. Sometimes in life, in order to achieve success, you have to create your own path. That rings true when it comes to the ups and downs of Hollywood. One minute your phone is ringing off the hook, then the next minute, you haven't worked in months or years sometimes. With that downtime, some people take the initiative and make opportunities happen. One person who definitely fits that mold is writer/director/actor Castille Landon. Born in Florida, Castille is a graduate of Harvard University and a graduate of the Creative Writing Masters program at Oxford University where she was the only screenwriter accepted. This amazing woman does it all and has accomplished so much at only 29 years old. The entertainment industry is known to have these big gatekeepers (top producers, casting agents, directors) to be quite established in their careers and to be a lot older. So, for her to have directed, written, and starred in numerous films as a young female is truly inspiring for other young women hoping to break into the industry. She's written, directed, and starred in several films such as Albion: The Enchanted Stallion, Apple of my Eye. More recently she is the writer and director of the YA thriller called Fear of Rain starring Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy), Israel Broussard, and Madison Iseman. She also just finished filming and directing the last two movies of the After series in Bulgaria. I actually had Anna Todd the writer of those series on the podcast! In this episode, we chat about how important education is to her, the transition from actor to writer/director, being a young female director and how she is perceived in the industry, her newest movie Fear of Rain, and what is what like taking over as director for the last two AFTER movies. Follow me on IG: @wellnowwhatpodcast. Leave a review on Apple Podcast. Follow Castille @castillelandon.
Castille Landon is an actor, screenwriter, and director who wrote and directed the psychological thriller Fear of Rain, starring Madison Iseman, Harry Harry Connick Jr., Katherine Heigl, and Israel Broussard. Before directing Fear of Rain, Castille wrote and directed Albion: The Enchanted Stallion and Apple of My Eye. She recently directed two films in the After series, based on the After book series, by Anna Todd. What you will learn: How Castille began her career as an actor, entered academia, and transitioned into screenwriting and directing. Why Castille prefers screenwriting and directing over acting, due to the emotional toll of the audition process. How her experience as an actor has made her a more empathetic and effective director. The benefits of her liberal arts education, and why aspiring filmmakers should study “everything but film” in college. How Castille approached casting Fear of Rain. The importance of “name actors” in certain roles, and lesser known actors in other roles; and the risks directors take by casting name actors without auditions. The hurdles Castille faced as a result of last minute casting changes. Why the themes in Fear of Rain resonate with a broad audience despite the specific challenges faced by the protagonist. The research Castille did on schizophrenia and mental illness while writing the screenplay for Fear of Rain. Advice she has for aspiring filmmakers. Why, despite having degrees from Harvard and Oxford, she still longs for the world of academia. Resources Castille Landon’s: IMDB, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn

PATRON MOVIE DISCUSSION: This movie was selected by my patron supporters over at the Cinematic Doctrine Patreon. Support as little as $3 a month and have your voice heard! Out of the last few discussion episodes we’ve had here on Cinematic Doctrine, I must say going through this episode was a real treat. Prepping for this episode was a little difficult as the few discussion points we approached with To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before seemed as though they wouldn’t spark any worthwhile or meaty discussions. Now, I say that, and that’s after we did a discussion episode on Sonic the Hedgehog, so maybe I’m just being a little ridiculous! Even so, we walked away from this episode discussion the clever creativity present within To All the Boys I've Loved Before, our high school experience and what makes high-school romantic-comedies relatable despite their hyperbole, and most interestingly, our thoughts on dating as Christians. This led to what might be my favorite discussion on the podcast so far, as it heads into the importance of learning to express oneself romantically while remaining biblically appropriate, discussing the importance of building a foundation for relationships to encourage healthy decision making, and how these thoughts and opinions on dating are largely counter-culture to the modern American-Christian lifestyle that kissed dating goodbye. All in all, my worries were pointless, and this episode turned out some extremely interesting and thought-provoking content. Tune in weekly for new episodes of Cinematic Doctrine! To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is Rated TV-14. It doesn’t have a detailed certificate, so here’s a Melvin certificate: mild sexual references and language. It features Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Anna Cathcart, Madeleine Arthur, Israel Broussard, John Corbett, Janel Parrish, and Emilija Baranac. Directed by Susan Johnson. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Director Christopher Landon has returned with a sequel to 2017’s surprise hit, HAPPY DEATH DAY. This time Landon not only directs but writes the screenplay for 2019’s HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U. This one is a direct sequel to the original and was somewhat of a surprise film to be greenlit. But with the success of the first, the movie was quickly produced and released in February of 2019. Tree Gelbman once again is stuck in a timeloop. Murdered over and over in the first film, this time she discovers that there may be a more scientific reason why this is all occurring. With the help of her boyfriend Carter, his roommate Ryan, as well as sorority sister Danielle, the group tries to decipher how to stop her predicament. However, a new ripple has caused Tree to have her doubts on whether the solution is all that good. Once again leads Jessica Rothe (as Tree) and Israel Broussard (as Carter) return. Also the entire cast from the first has returned. Rachel Matthews (as Danielle) has a scene stealing role, while Phi Vu (as Ryan) also returns in a much larger role. Unlike the prior film, this one seems to turn towards science fiction rather than horror, but generally the film keeps the feel of the first film intact. Dark Discussions takes a look and gives their thoughts. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM
Happy Death Day (2017) repeats over and over and over and over... An unoriginal, original idea. Happy Death Day takes the concept of a movie like Groundhog Day, and sets it within the Horror Genre. The Brothers Brotastic look into what makes this movie stand out when the trope of reliving the same day repeatedly is overshadowed by the Bill Murray classic. This movie didn't take itself too seriously, but that may have been what made it work. How many tickets do Philip and Andrew rate this fresh take on a classic concept? Happy Death Day (2017) Directed by Christopher Landon Written by Scott Lobdell Starring Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Rob Mello, Rachel Matthews, and Phil Vu.
