Welcome to the first Friday Town-Hall Meeting. This is the show where were answer questions, discuss the challenges of small business, sometimes have a guest, and have a little bit of fun.  In today's episode we talk about the challenges of finding new customers and getting new sales.  Every small business needs sales, so I am going to dive deep and talk about the solutions to this challenge. Speaking of challenges.  It was a challenging start to the week...  We had some server issues, but we were able to get the podcast off the ground.  Thank you for being a part of it. I would like your feedback.  My desire is to serve you.  Let me know your thoughts and suggestions for the show.  You can leave them in the comments below. These business challenges came from our reader survey that we did late last year. Business Challenge #1  "How do I laser-focus and define my core target client persona and her/his most urgent/biggest pain points to tailor my service modules to get precisely the results they need." Profile your existing clients or determine the profile of the market you want to serve. Survey Sample products Market before you produce and get feedback Business Challenge #2 - "How do I connect with the right market in ways that drive new business and create sustainable relationships and income potential." Once you have identified the market, find out where they "hang out" Engage them there. Build connections with influencers Give lots of "gifts" Have a strategy and system to build those relationships over time. Adam was one of the first Crossfit gym owners in Australia (and worldwide). He sold his gym and is now the founder of the Virtuosity Project, where he teaches fitness professionals and gym owners how to grow their business. In this episode, we get into some specific ways that he helps people break through their plateaus and glass ceilings. We also dig into the idea of fear and how to keep progressing in spite of fear. We’ll have Marcus go first. MARCUS:  Sure. I'm Marcus Phillips. I'm a JavaScript enthusiast. I've been in it for a long time. Really excited about framework architecture and lately, all about teaching what I've learned over the course of time that I've been working in the Bay Area and working on the frontend of Twitter and things like that. Nowadays, I teach at Hack Reactor full time which is an immersive school for learning to become a developer over a period of three months. JAMISON:  Cool. CHUCK:  And which technologies do you teach at Hack Reactor? MARCUS:  We use JavaScript as our teaching language. Fundamentally, what we’re trying to do is teach people software engineering principles. So, JavaScript just turns out to be one of the most useful languages we can use to do that. But from there, we kind of want to give people practical skills that they can use immediately on the job. So, we definitely drive the entire curriculum out of GitHub repos and teach them some practical things like Backbone and Node and deployment strategies. Really excited about framework architecture and lately, all about teaching what I've learned over the course of time that I've been working in the Bay Area and working on the frontend of Twitter and things like that. Nowadays, I teach at Hack Reactor full time which is an immersive school for learning to become a developer over a period of three months. JAMISON:  Cool. CHUCK:  And which technologies do you teach at Hack Reactor? MARCUS:  We use JavaScript as our teaching language. Fundamentally, what we’re trying to do is teach people software engineering principles. So, JavaScript just turns out to be one of the most useful languages we can use to do that. But from there, we kind of want to give people practical skills that they can use immediately on the job. So, we definitely drive the entire curriculum out of GitHub repos and teach them some practical things like Backbone and Node and deployment strategies. CHUCK: Do you have money? [Laughter] ERIC: Oh... REUVEN: This is not a typical interaction they help. [Laughter] CHUCK: Anyway, let's talk about email lists. I'm sure you guys, or at least some of you guys, have email lists that you manage, or email lists that you don't manage. CURTIS: Yeah, it's the both. CHUCK: [Laughs] Yeah, that's much more my case. I'm a little bit curious, do any of you have more than a few hundred subscribers in any of your lists? ERIC: I have a little less than 700 on my main list right now; I have the dashboard in front of me. CHUCK: Awesome! REUVEN: I don't run a list for my work, but I run a community list that is about 2700 people on it. CHUCK: Well, if you're talking about something like Ruby Rogues Parley, then I have one.
